41 years since Karen died. February 4th 1983. After all this time she still remains one of the greatest. Her voice was one in a million and she will never be forgotten.
@jayrowe6473 I respect your opinion Jay. I think we can agree that both ladies had legendary voices. Karen had the edge of being proficient with a musical instrument. Linda strummed a little guitar, but was hardly proficient. However, Linda could sing any style of music and Karen could not, so Linda gets the edge there. There are very few vocalists you can say that about.
Out of the blue, a few days ago, I just suddenly remembered her songs. Hearing her songs on the radio when I was a kid, I love how she sounds. I agree her voice was Flawless.
And to anyone who doesn't know, she was also an awesome jazz drummer and could sing like this at the same time! She was generally pushed away from singing behind the kit because they wanted her at the front of the stage stood up. I think her coolest performances are when she's behind the drums whilst singing like an angel, and they really show what a beast of a musician she was.
February 4, 1983. I cried that day, the day Karen died. The voice of an angel. I saw her in concert at the Riviera in Las Vegas in the late 70's. I was the only person standing at the end, she noticed, looked right at me, and mouthed 'Thank you.' I thought I had died and gone to heaven. When I do die, I'll know I'm in heaven when I hear her voice once again.
Thomas, how I wish that I could have also been there at that concert to see the beautiful women that I have been in love with since I was 6 years old, I will turn 56 years old God willing on 02-24-2020, I too cried when I heard that she had passed on that fateful day, I could not believe that she had passed at such an young age.
funny, when i was about 8 years old Princess diana came to my old county in Southern england, well she just drove through onto an engagement nearby, our school was informed and all the kids and parents formed a line on the very narrow road she came through, she drove through very slow and i literally locked eyes with her even my mum noticed this..i have never forgotten that.
Absolutely. Her voice stands out beyond any other. Pure talent. In the 70's, I thought her voice was beautiful, but as time passes, her voice breaks away from the rest. No other voice reaches into the heart and soul like Karen's.
She was awesome, my other two favorites are Mama Cass and Dolly Parton, but Karen Carpenter was amazing. When you can recognize the singer from the first word they sing, you know they are special.
My nephew was born the day she died. Was a premie given last rites three times. Is healthy today! I asked him about Karen and he said he has a melancholy feeling when he hears her voice....
I agree it makes me so sad her life her story she always thought herself being fat but she was really skinny it’s so sad how she died I loved Karen Carpenter with all my heart and soul her music always makes me sad but I love her music
Karen Carpenter was, one of, if not the finest female artists of all time. She had control, tone, feel and a presence. No electronic aids of autotune back then, just pure natural talent. Her vocals are so distinctive, and stand alone from anyone else before or after. She was a living legend, but she just did not know it. One of the sadest stories ever. R.I.P Karen 🙏🙏🙏
She had not only a naturally beautiful voice, but her phrasing and timing were impeccable. She was so skilled and committed to her craft that she sounds exactly as good live as she did on her recordings. Combine her peerless, sensitive, emotionally resonant singing with Richard's understated, intricate and perfectly crafted arrangements and the result is on a completely different plane from all other pop music. There will never be another Carpenters.
You can actually steal her songs and have visions from our words and the music no matter what situation you were in you could listen to Karen Carpenter oh, we were so lucky as to children to grow up and listen to her I will listen to her songs for the rest of my life, and we only just begun, it's a lifetime song
As a 66 year old man, I grew up with The Carpenters. Now I glance upon the songs and listen because they calm me and remind me of better times. Amazing Talent is almost a curse. We enjoy it but do not understand the toll it takes on the provider. I feel so bad for Karen Carpenter and believe she was thrust into something amazing, via her talent that just cannot be explained. Hope God has placed her in a very special place because of all the pain she suffered thru and all the enjoyment she provided us simpletons.
I've heard exactly one voice. It haunts people and makes them uncomfortable. It was my friend Vanessa Langer. Murdered by her own government. 9/11/2001.
Karen was the best of all time. Pure vocal talent. No auto tune, no stage show or dancers needed to make a show. She reaches inside you and grabs your heart ❤. We need the 70s again !
This genre really isn’t my thing, as I’m into heavier rock ( i.e. Zeppelin, Beatles, etc), but I know stellar talent when I hear it. For my money, Karen is the greatest female pop vocalist in history. She LITERALLY can take my breath away and choke me up and I’m a man’s man. Sure, others like Whitney Houston may have had more range and power, but NONE of her contemporaries had the tone and silkiness of Karen-not Ronstadt, Streisand-nobody.. There is something ethereal about her tone that hits me as much on a spiritual level as an auditory one. Richard is a musical genius, as well.
I have to agree with you, i wouldn"t compare whitney and karen at all though. They are at two ends of the pop spectrum and did two totally different things with their voices. For what they each did, they were the best at it with their respective syles of singing and had the most God given talent, no gimmicks, if that makes sense...
It's not that Whitney had more range, but Richard felt her strongest voice was in her lower range, so she didn't use the upper range nearly as much as she could have. In reality, she had about five octaves that she could reach.
It's so hard to comprehend that someone with such an amazing voice never felt that she was good enough. Karen, dear, you were so completely good enough. You were exquisite.
I'm a rock lover, U2, Led Zeppelin, The Who etc. but Karen Carpenter is the greatest vocalist I've ever heard. Her voice is divine and the emotion and sadness that comes through is genuine. There's nobody like her.
Unbelievable how much you can get lost in this, if you open up and let this song drag you into it's world. The almost transcendental atmosphere it creates makes me believe hearing the voice from some sort of other life beyond our usual experience.
The ghost of her beautiful voice haunts UA-cam. She was the victim of uncontrolled fame of the 1970's but her sound transcends that time. I am unsure why the naysayers put her down but reply saying that they should explain what other than style is worth quibbling. Indeed there is no denying her gifts. I am not into this kind of music but appreciate her greatness for what it is, despite being alien to my kind of music. +
The most hauntingly beautiful song ever recorded. Karen's voice, Leon's song and Richard's arrangement is beyond. My goodness her voice and ability to deliver lyrics was magic.
The hell of a statement, to which I can't argue against. I believe Zephyr's See my people come together (1971) and Genesis' Firth of fifth (1974) are unparalleled, but I agree with you.
@@SofiaRicci-e8uI love hearing things like that. I wouldn’t give up growing up in the 70’s for anything. Very special time to be alive and songs like this made our lives so much more special. Your Mom did good!
In the BBC documentary Only Yesterday: The Carpenters Story, her friend Nicky Chinn said that John Lennon walked up to her at a Los Angeles restaurant and told her "I want to tell you, love, that you've got a fabulous voice."
So what. She didn't need validation from him or anyone else. Lennon should have acknowledged the massive talent of her brother Richard as well - master arranger and musician. Lennon is up there among the greats, but Karen Carpenter never needed his arrogant endorsement.
I"m 70 and have been listening to this beautiful Angel since I was a boy in the 1960's. When I heard her beautiful voice I fell in love with her and I'm still in love with her. Today whenever I hear her beautiful Angelic voice I break down and cry, I miss her so much. I love you Karen and miss you so much, I will never stop listening to you.
@@Steveaky What a super sweet memory, of your sweet Mother, and of the holiday! 😇 🙏 🌹 🔔 Karen Carpenter's voice truly has never been matched. 💍 God bless you. ♥
Back and this time we were holding hands as a teenager and getting kisses from girls, new girlfriend's being a teenager is amazing thing, having the Carpenters sing song to us just enhance it perfectly
Karen Carpenter was in my humble opinion one of the greatest voices to ever hold a microphone. This song shows so much depth, so much soul and heart break some say she lost herself in this song, but as her brother said, "I can't say Karen lost herself in this song because Karen could walk in and sing the phone book and it would of sounded good, all I know she hit it in one take." Linda Perry, a song writer and record producer said, "Karen had a incredible tone in her voice, it was smooth, it was rich and full, it was barely a whisper but it was so strong. You couldn't touch that emotion today, there's no way, there's no one out there, Patsy Cline was the closest, to me both of them shared the same emotion, the emotion of struggle and depression." Mike Curb said, "You saw this girl singing with such emotion and in Superstar she really felt those emotions and it shows, it's beautiful." Karen Carpenter had so much soul and feeling and many heard it as one day Karen and her boyfriend at the time Mike Curb were walking out of a restaurant and John Lennon was coming in and he stopped Karen and said, "You know love, you really have a amazing voice." Karen was taken back and thought he was kidding because she did have a inferiority complex but even Paul McCartney said, "Karen Carpenter has the most beautiful voice in the world, so melodic." I miss her, the world misses her because she was truly a amazing talent and quite a accomplished drummer as well, maybe the best singing drummer, again in my opinion. RIP Karen, you will always be a SUPERSTAR!
@@primusmossjr I was going to say the same thing! She could play the skins, as well as her brother could play the keyboards!!! However, I believe, she was, one of those talents, that never knew how great, they truly were!!!
@@mikehill584 its a sad thing. Angels dont seem to dwell here for long. That girl was the real deal! It was a privilege to have had her here for the short time that she was. She definitely left a great mark and legacy. People have to be treated well. You have to see the real them. See past the fame and love the PERSON as well as the image! Proof is in the pudding. Her music stood the test of time no doubt! I think I would have noticed the sadness in her if I could have spoken to her for a bit. You can see it clearly in her photos to this day. It's in the eyes. Might not have been able to change anything but I damn sure would have tried. Believe that! I would have gotten on her nerves lol but I would have made sure we had fun!
In my opinion, the best female vocalist of all time. When music, lyrics, relevance of topic and the artist's talent dovetail to create musical bliss. RIP Karen. We loved you
Her vocal skills were remarkable at 21 years of age. Note her phrasing, breath control, pitch & emotional impact. I knew when I was 10 back in 1970, this voice was very special. 48 years later, she still has no peers; in a class by herself!
We are contemporaries, and yes, felt the same way. I was playing drums, piano, and beginning trumpet at that time, and got a clue about how special she was, even then. That TONE!
Me, too. Totally. I love so much hard rock stuff. My band played Deep Purple, Led Zeppelin, Bowie, Tull... and what brings tears to my eyes on UA-cam? The Carpenters. He vocals were the creamiest, and the songs were intense, with lush orchestrations. Richard's piano was awesome. What more can I say?
@@PlanetRockJesus Richard was a musical genius in his own right as a composer. When he decided to go with that hard rock electric guitar Rift In Goodbye To Love, Inspired! Some people say it was the first Power ballad or a prelude to it. Some of the Carpenters fans and radio stations hated it because of the guitar and its distortion and thought it was not real Carpenters music. Karen's tonality and resonance and steady pitch was just out of this world.
PlanetRockJesus I miss those 70s outdoor concerts, 1 bummer Zeppellin cancelled when drummer OD on Alcohol. I nicknamed Mick Jagger ( A ROOSTER ON ACID ) because of his energy on stage
It was cold with ice and snow on the roads on a frigid Feb 4th and I was driving on Highway 81 in Duncan Oklahoima listening to the AM Radio station in Oklahoma City when I heard Kacy Kasem suddenly on with an announcement that Karen Carpenter had died at her home in California. This song then followed and I had to pull the car over in the McDonalds parking lot because i could not see a thing. My eyes were flooded with tears and I was totally lost to sorrow in the moment. The song played and I contnnued to sit and listen. Listen in disbelief that such a beautiful talented young woman could possibly die so young. It took me about 20 minutes after the song was over to regain enough composure to drive again. I had a huge crush on Karen when I was growing up and to be honest I still had very strong feelings for her. I always hoped to some day be able to see the Carpenters performing live.
I was checking my groceries out at our local Winn Dixie store, when the store radio overhead suddenly stopped their programming and the DJ made the announcement that Karen Carpenter had died. Cash registers stopped and you could have heard a pin drop in that store. Finally a male voice said, “did he just say Karen Carpenter died?” Slowly checkers began to complete checking groceries and we all completed our purchases in silence. I’ll never forget sharing that horrible feeling that day. 😢

@@kane4013 She was not fat unless she gained a lot of weight before her untimely death in 1983. I am not sure but it seems like I remember reading somewhere she was bulimic and was married to a man who did not treat her well.
Great music in every decade but there was something powerful about that one. Rock and Roll was all grown up and there were so many great musicians playing it. Great time to be alive for sure.
yolanda jerginson ryciarisy valentine I guess by underrated I meant that they're (the critics) always talking about singers like Janis Joplin, Whitney Houston, Mariah Carey, Barbara Streisand, Celine Dion and todays Adele, and I don't hear Karen mentioned much...I personally think that these singers have nothing on Karen...her voice was mezmerizing!
I’m 30 years old.. my mom would play The Carpenters when I was a kid. Even then I was amazed by her voice. Now I realized how lucky I was to be introduced to her. The older I get the more I see how unique and one of a kind Karen was. no one will ever match how great she was. Sad how it ended and sad I wasn’t around for this era.
I was a 13 year old kid the Summer of 1971 listening to this Song on my Family's Cross Country Road trip to California. I was Mesmerized by the Angelic voice of the Incomparable Karen Carpenter. I was already a huge fan from the previous Summer when her Brother Richard struck Gold with Close to You. She is unquestionably one of the Best Female Vocalists I've ever Heard. Her music still resonates 54 Years later
I know right...I was only 3yrd old at that time but my oldest sister played the Carpenters when I was able to understand maybe around 1973 I remember she's go through so many hurt broken relationships during I could feel her pain and her joy when she met someone new..😢😅
When John Lennon first met Karen, he said she had the most beautiful voice in the world. I agree. Thank you carpenter family. You have given this world beautiful music for the generations.

LOOK AT HER FACE, THERE IS NO, NO, EFFORT FOR HER TO PRODUCE THESE VOCALS, IT JUST SPILLS OUT, WHAT A GIFT SHE IS, IS CAUSE ALL THIS KEEPS HER ALIVE.. RIP ANGEL CARPENTER.
She had the smoothest voice of any female singer, period. She was also an underrated drum player. To sing like she did and play drums at the same time. Just awesome. RIP Karen.
As a drummer myself I can tell you the last thing Ms.. Carpenter is, is unrated. In the ranks of musicians she is noted as one of the best time keepers of all time not t mention excellent dynamics. Karen was a very special talent , unfortunately in today's world of auto tune and drum machines rarely does someone like her get noticed.
To really see how good she was on drums, search for and listen to her technical excellence on a cut called "Iced Tea" by the Richard Carpenter Trio. It was recorded when Karen was just fifteen. ua-cam.com/video/AzNQWDyxYow/v-deo.html
I loved Streisand, Amy winehouse, mama Cass Elliot, Carly Simon and Patsy Cline. I'm in my 60's but still no one compares to the soul of Karen carpenter's voice.
When I was in college in the mid-70s the woman who lived in the apartment next door played her Carpenters record over and over again in an endless loop. I was into hard rock, but I didn't mind at all. Karen Carpenter's voice is singular and I will never get tired of hearing it.
She is my favorite Female Vocalist ever and I agree that She had excellent Breath Control .. The other Vocalist to possess that kind of control was the One and Only Francis Albert Sinatra !!
Absolutely! If U listen to Carpenters "Eve", performed in 1968, it's apparent Karen had this gift when she was 18. That voice was already in place, ready to touch souls & caress weary hearts & that TONE!

Best vocals ever. I read an article on Karen saying no one has ever been able to match her ability on going from the highs to low. Imo they never will. Her voice was pure silk to the soul.
I was this 11-12 yr old kid that had this powerful crush on her at the time in the early 1970s, like a young boy that falls in love with the woman teacher in grade school. I really loved Karen and I miss her sweet voice. God bless her.
A girlfriend insisted that I go to a Carpenters’ concert in 1973. I am so grateful for that. I knew Karen was an extraordinary singer, but I really didn’t care for their music at the time. But in my entire life, I believe the only thing that I’ve personally ever witnessed that would meet the definition of sublime, was Karen Carpenter that night.
Richard also deserves some credit for the taste and restraint of his arrangements, not drowning her voice in the “wall of sound” overproduction so common then. The key to longevity in music is simplicity.
Story is that Richard saw Bette Midler perform this on The Tonight Show and decided to write his own arrangement for Karen. He cleaned it up a bit to fit the Carpenters clean image, changing the title from Groupie (Superstar) to Superstar and lyrics from "Can't wait to sleep with you again" to "Can't wait to be with you again."
Karen is the only singer I can listen to all day long and it still wouldn't be enough. That tone, timbre and aching of her magnificent voice just gets to me emotionally every time. :(
I was not much of a Carpenters fan, growing up with them on the radio, but over the years I have come to realize THIS song is possibly the best vocal performance ever recorded. Karen's voice is so clear and pure, with such a perfect vibrato. I am happy to say I love this song, and happier still to have experienced it.
I was a hard rock and jazz fusion player and fan at the time but I was one of those closet Carpenters fan. Especially this song which was my favorite to this day.
I agree with you so much. There was the repeat of the Carpenter Special on our PBS channel 11 here in Chicago this evening. I just love their music so much as well.

Thank you for posting this my favorite Karen Carpenter song since I first heard it. When we lost her on 1983, we lost an Angel come to Earth. We will never have a voice like hers again .
All I can say is I believe that Karen Carpenter had the purest voice ever. I was in love with her voice since The Carpenters first album. I'm so very sad she died young.
For anyone that was young in the 60s and 70s, hearing a Carpenters song today is a goose bump nostalgic moment of the greatest music era in history that instantly transport you back in time.
Gradkuated HS in '76 and although this stuff was a bit syruppy for me then...it did not take long for me to realize that Karyn and David were really genius on these tunes. Awesome. The wrecking crew...are you kidding? Best studio drummer ever.
Just heard the story of the time Karen Carpenter was walking out of a coffee shop in Hollywood just as John Lennon was walking in. He stopped in his tracks and said to her "You have a fantastic voice". She walked out amazed that he would think that. One Phenom noticing another!
She was one of the most gifted singers ever to enter the field of music. Incredible and totally in her natural realm! Thank you, Richard for allowing your sister to share and perform the beautiful music you wrote for her!
~wiki~ "Superstar" is a 1969 song written by Bonnie Bramlett and Leon Russell, that has been a hit for many artists in different genres in the years since. The best-known versions are by the Carpenters in 1971, Luther Vandross in 1983, and Sonic Youth in 1994.
Its been proven now after isolating her voice. She was pitch perfect in the studio and live. Many famous singers voices were isolated and she came out on top. Top of the world :)

Yes, she was the struggling Underdog in the family. They thought Richard was "the" talent & it was nice how Karen played drums. Early on, no one knew she could sing!
It is amazing when you think she really just wanted to play drums instead of sing but once Richard and Herb Alert heard that voice in the studio they knew they had something truly magical.
Yeah Richard said on the PBS documentary of the Carpenters, that he knew she sounded good in the living room, but the first time he heard her miked in full studio sound that he was like.....WOW.

Spot on appraisal

You can actually steal her songs and have visions from our words and the music no matter what situation you were in you could listen to Karen Carpenter oh, we were so lucky as to children to grow up and listen to her I will listen to her songs for the rest of my life, and we only just begun, it's a lifetime song
That's what makes her the perfect singer. Not only having the voice, but knowing how to use it.
Yes, the instrumental part is as remarkable as her vocal skills.
I'm 66 also. Agree with everything you said about her.

Truly amazing
Couldn't Agree more
This genre really isn’t my thing, as I’m into heavier rock ( i.e.
Sooooooo true!!
So true she was an angel in disguise God bless Karen 4EVER
I have to agree with you, i wouldn"t compare whitney and karen at all though. They are at two ends of the pop spectrum and did two totally different things with their voices. For what they each did, they were the best at it with their respective syles of singing and had the most God given talent, no gimmicks, if that makes sense...
It's not that Whitney had more range, but Richard felt her strongest voice was in her lower range, so she didn't use the upper range nearly as much as she could have. In reality, she had about five octaves that she could reach.
Wow. Great observations, brother.
It's so hard to comprehend that someone with such an amazing voice never felt that she was good enough. Karen, dear, you were so completely good enough. You were exquisite.
maybe because she had stage fright

I'm a rock lover, U2, Led Zeppelin, The Who etc. but Karen Carpenter is the greatest vocalist I've ever heard. Her voice is divine and the emotion and sadness that comes through is genuine. There's nobody like her.

I think most of us do. At least those that have come to listen to this. Probably one of her best sounding songs. IMHO obvs.

Yoko Ono and tinny Tim have better voices.

She was the greatest. That voice...

God gave you the strength to continue. Great music I used to hear in the 70's
Wow. Your words put me in your shoes. There's NOTHING PLEASANT about death.
One of the greatest female singers of all time , no question about it.
Richard also deserves some credit for the taste and restraint of his arrangements, not drowning her voice in the “wall of sound” overproduction so common then. The key to longevity in music is simplicity.
Agree 100!
Yes , along with her beautiful voice , the instruments on this song are perfect.

Totally, OKH! Richard is a great artist.
Karen is the only singer I can listen to all day long and it still wouldn't be enough. That tone, timbre and aching of her magnificent voice just gets to me emotionally every time. :(
+Shane Anthony me too!..
+Shane Anthony Same here!
+Shane Anthony I agree
+Shane Anthony, Her voice is Hauntingly Beautiful. I watched this video and cried. How I loved Karen Carpenter and miss her so.
That voice was amazing.
You have a grateful heart. God bless you.
I'm always aware of how when she begins to sing my heart has weird warm reaction . So powerful in it's sincerity and purity
This song is beautiful and hypnotic..
She does have a decent voice, but let's not get outta hand now, LUTHER VANDROSS remake of this song comes second to none.8/26/22 -11:17 pm
I was a hard rock and jazz fusion player and fan at the time but I was one of those closet Carpenters fan. Especially this song which was my favorite to this day.
There will never be another Karen Carpenter, she was unique..
❤️❤️😭
Yes, she unfortunately was.
❤️❤️😘
Completely agree
I agree with you so much. There was the repeat of the Carpenter Special on our PBS channel 11 here in Chicago this evening. I just love their music so much as well.
No one will ever have such perfection as Karen Carpenter , enough said !❤
My grandparents raised me and they're both gone. I listen to The Carpenters to feel close to them 🥺🫶🏼💕
Every word can be understood, and minimal processing on the vocals. No profanity, no violence. Beautiful music. We’ve lost this simplicity to time.
hey guys, did you know that the SON OF GOD JESUS CHRIST created this universe, and trough HIM you can get forgiveness of your sins because HE got sacrificed by HIS HIS FATHER for our sins, only if you believe HIM you will get forgiven and be saved from hell, all who believe HIM not have made HIM to a liar
if you confess with your mouth JESUS IS LORD and believe GOD raised HIM from the death you will be saved
faith is trough hearing and hearing is trough the WORD OF GOD - the BIBLE
Keep it in your church.
@@dirkhartman9572 The topic is Karen Carpenter and the music she made. Glad for your faith but kindly thump your Bible elsewhere.
Love all things punk, metal, alternative, indie, but NOTHING hits me harder than Karen Carpenter's haunting yet beautiful voice.
ME TOO.
Same bruh
Love the Beatles..but here I am..once again... trapped in Karen's absolutely amazing voice...a lot of great vocals in her other songs...but this one just slays me..😯😥
I agree, its so unique.

Long ago, and, oh, so far away
I fell in love with you before the second show
Your guitar, it sounds so sweet and clear
But you're not really here, it's just the radio
Don't you remember, you told me you loved me baby?
You said you'd be coming back this way again baby
Baby, baby, baby, baby, oh baby
I love you, I really do
Loneliness is such a sad affair
And I can hardly wait to be with you again
What to say to make you come again?
Come back to me again and play your sad guitar
Don't you remember, you told me you loved me baby?
You said you'd be coming back this way again baby
Baby, baby, baby, baby, oh baby
I love you, I really do
Don't you remember, you told me you loved me baby?
You said you'd be coming back this way again baby
Baby, baby, baby, baby, oh baby
I love you, I really do
That1GirlMaddie Gracias 🙌🏽
👍😎
Thank you for posting this my favorite Karen Carpenter song since I first heard it. When we lost her on 1983, we lost an Angel come to Earth. We will never have a voice like hers again .
Thank you!
Aint that the truth!
Gradkuated HS in '76 and although this stuff was a bit syruppy for me then...it did not take long for me to realize that Karyn and David were really genius on these tunes. Awesome. The wrecking crew...are you kidding? Best studio drummer ever.
@@fennotheyounger Karen and Richard wos the names
Her death to me was the equivalent of Elvis’ death for the generation before.
You just described how I feel, I keep coming back to their old songs and transported back in time
Just heard the story of the time Karen Carpenter was walking out of a coffee shop in Hollywood just as John Lennon was walking in. He stopped in his tracks and said to her "You have a fantastic voice". She walked out amazed that he would think that. One Phenom noticing another!
Wow, that would have been the most amazing thing to happen and the best compliment ANYONE can give you!!
She should have suggested a duet....that would have been interesting.
@@jamesgough3938 Yoko would have pushed her down the stairs
She didn't even believe it. She thought he was trying to be funny.
Except Poor Karen lacked confidence in her own talents. She was happiest behind the drums
Her low tones.....like butter. This song stops me in my tracks. Not many artists can evoke such deep emotions. My fav carpenters song
.
Susan Whelan Mine too and I think their best recording
Just perfection.
You're right Susan, those low tones are amazing!
She put so much emotion into a song that it makes me cry.
Gone but never forgotten.
Mine too.
Mine too!
She hits those notes as deep as Luther Vandross version of this song.
She recorded this song in only one take. Simply amazing performance. Stellar!
No way . How you know that??
@@tomfox4466 It was reported in several interviews and other media reports.
Hi dear,how are you doing?
Who were the others?
I just love her voice, it is the best ever!!!!!!!!!!
No surprise to me:)
Is that the as a pitcher pitching a perfect game.
I-C-O-N-I-C period. Best female voice EVER! No autotune. No vocal enhancements. No audio tricks. Just true talent. KAREN CARPENTER IS UNMATCHED. Gone too soon. RIP Karen. We miss you terribly.
Did overdub though.
I fall in love with the incomparable ms Karen Carpenter all over again, only to remember that she left us so long ago.
52 years on from it's original release, i still get goosebumps the moment i hear this song. Incredible vocal performance from Karen. That voice truly was pitch perfect.
It's so hauntingly beautiful, pure perfection
As a 54 yo bloke today, I can fully understand what you mean. Rest in peace Karen Carpenter. God bless you, wherever you are.
Oh let's listen
My older female cousin played this all the time in her 69 Camaro RS. Loved it.
You was privileg to be in front of thems.. 😅
The purest voice out all female singers ever.
easily
Agree, and Cass. 👍🏻

💯💯💯💯
I love The Carpenters. I listen to them at the restaurant (Soda Steve's) I work. I love the songwriting. I love the singing. I love the instruments. WWJD ✝
What a gorgeous, lush voice. She breaks my heart.
RIP.
I aggree with you.She is singing with Angels Now.
My parents took on the Carpenter Family home tour back in the 70s ..I remember it well Good Aura !!!
One of the greatest songs sung by one of the greatest vocalists ever.
I honestly feel that NO other female singer could or would have sung and performed this song better than Karen Carpenter did...
It is beautiful and haunting... touches your inner being and soul... Thank you Karen and Richard Carpenter!
She's not one-in-a-million It's just there will never be another I never knew watching her when I was a child on Ed Sullivan's that I was watching the best of all time just I just hought everybody sang like that cuz she was so good it was just so natural and as time went on there was just no one else. I do love Carole King and she's one of the greatest ❤️ songwriters of all time
Absolutely 💯
Not as good but Luther v did a pretty good job with this song
@@jackieguccione94 it's her song. Luther did ok with her song. Did not capture the Erie depth. That looming hunting feeling that something somewhere went terribly wrong , a sadness is coming linger and find it or it finds you
Male or female. I feel it's written to be sung from the female perspective anyhow.
And she didn't think she could sing!!! Her voice is the most beautiful ever!
