- Do we have a strange vehicle for you today. Did you know that Chevy made an air cooled van? This is a 63 Corvair 95 Greenbrier 4 SPEED SICK SHIFT van. It has been parked for 37 years, has 2 carburetors from the factory, and we are going to try to get it running and driving again as a family.

Wawa hangs on every single word you say ❤you can tell how much she respects and loves you. You’re her hero!
She is daddy’s girl
Well, she is a third responder after all 😂
the kids are amazing. so talented. music and art. plus a love for animals and nature. a good work ethic. parenting done right.
@@robertasmith7780 It's an undeniable fact that there's always that one person in the comments who tries to act smart, but ends up failing miserably. And now, we find ourselves in the midst of such an instance.
@@Sleeperdudeyour kids are going to do well in life, you have great parenting skills
You should let Squeezy Paint it like the Mystery Machine with the family’s help of course.
It would make a Good video!
Maybe so if she wants to
Would be a great candidate for that paint scheme, and if Squeezy was to do it ; let her lead!! With however she wants to paint it. You do the prep of course Josh. A Tennessee farm scene with horses in pasture, flowers in bloom, fields freshly plowed inda background,& Granny with her tongue out standing onda bottom rail of the fence😂😂😂

Sqeezy is a hippie kiddo in 2024. I find that refreshing. Great Dad and the family fun seems never ending. My question is do you edit disagreement out?
I would love to see Squeeze paint one her way
What a great empty canvas for her!@@Sleeperdude
Josh, i could tell you a long story about 10 of us driving a corvair van accross the country in 1974, when i was 17. It floated awhile in the mississipi river, then sank. The great folks in Louisanna, Missorui hooked it out, we got it running again, with their great help, and motored on. Thanks for the memories, my friend. You folks are SUCH a blessing! Love ya'll!!!!!
That’s an amazing story
Wow
That trip could be movie
My dad had 5 corvairs when I was a kid. Check the valve clearances. Valve guides. If not set right, they will self destruct by throwing rods out the top of the engine. Make sure the distributor bushing is getting well lubricated as well.
Little bit Beverly hillbilly
That test drive had me laughing out loud. Several minutes of chaos. No brakes, only a couple gears, smoke screen, string throttle and squeezy driving.... backwards 😂
FYI, the sound of the rain really isn't bad at all! I didn't even notice it until you brought it up.
Ok thank you
Yeah it's barely noticeable Josh. No worries!
The "Test Drive" was literally one of the funniest things i've ever seen. Every single door once opened and closed 😀 You guys lightened my today's bad mood up. 🙂
Matt, from Matt's off road recovery has half a dozen Corvairs, and storage container full of parts. Reach out to him if you have questions.
LOL! I was just about to post this exact comment. 🤣
Yep, Matt is the man if you want Corvair parts or advice.
You guys read my mind! Yeah, hit him up for sure and if he's busy ask Rudy 😅
Love Wawa's shirt!! Country girls don't retreat, they just reload! It's a cool van, you still see them out there for sale, but they are getting rare and most of them are junked out. Love the fact you are still saving these things.
Thank you
WaWa doesn't play games.
Its that 5 gallons of Marvel Mystery Oil Ralphie put in her! lol
I think it was
That looks like a corvair motor in the back Matt from Matt's off-road recovery will have every part you need for that motor
Ok thanks
Swap in a 63 to 65 Spyder turbo motor and gauge cluster
@Sleeperdude Matt is an expert when it comes to these Corvairs. He has several large shipping containers full of parts! I'm sure he would be able to answer any questions you may have. I'm looking forward to seeing this build!! Thank you for having such awesome family-friendly content!! You & Tosh have done an excellent job raising your kids. They're all very talented!! Thanks again!! Hope you have a Happy Easter!!
The Morrvair is a beast.
I like the Lakewood wagon and Matt turned it into a nice offroader
Daddy-o on the clutch, shifter, and string throttle...Squeezy steering...Ralphie monitoring the belt, the battery, the fuel tank position, and providing starter button service...and Wawa ready with the killswitch. Nobody on the brakes because there ain't no brakes! Everybody has a job to do but nobody can see to do it because of the smoke! PERFECT! Couldn't have been more entertaining and it'll be quite a project to have roadworthy-ish but completely worth all the hassle to get there.
Ralph's comment about the Chinese starter button was too funny. The sarcasm was priceless.
🤣🤣🤣
The look of disappointment in the squeeze's face is precious. She can't hide her emotions. Great videos, y'all
👍🤣🤣🤣she’s a mess
Wears her heart on her sleeve.

Squeeze. 🎉
I have an artist daughter myself. She's so smart. 🥲 always making drawings, clay figures, making hats, sewing, dancing, painting, acting. I can say artists are amazing 😊
Cars just aren't her thing and yep she doesn't hide it, she's more artistically minded obviously.
I bought a 65 Corvair van in 1970 for $200. It burned a quart of oil in every 35 miles. My brother and I rebuilt the engine. I drove that van for five years for work. I am watching and it sure brings back memories.😂❤
How far did you get on a quart after the rebuild?
Squeezes face says it all "you talking to me?" What a gas...you guys love each other. Reminds me of my Dad's Opel!
Can't wait to see this on the road !! Good job guys and gals
I used to hate history as a kid. I love it now. Thanks for all the history knowledge.
Corvair engines are notorious for lifter noise when they have been sitting for a while. Just let it idle for a while...a good long while! It will get quieter and quieter until it is one of the quietes six cylinders you have ever heard. (unless the exhaust is bad).
I have owned a 63, 64 & 65 convertible but never a van or truck.
4:55 Squeezie’s reaction is awesome. Love the honesty of that kid.
She’s a mess 🤣
@@Sleeperdudeher facial expressions in the van were great
underwhelmed!
I saw that, too. Bless'er, Jesus...poor lil' hun.
I'm the oldest of three kids. I have two younger sisters. Wawa, Ralphie, and Squeezie remind me of the three of us. My one sister and I were into cars and motorcycles, my youngest sister, had no interest at all.
We don’t care about the sound of rain.
I like it. Ads ambiance!
Well, you know what you have to do now: rig the telegraph key as your horn button. :)
Clark's Corvair Parts will have must parts you may need. Another tip, never use a plastic fuel filter in the engine bay, too hot, they melt. Love your channel and family!
Awesome thanks
If you need help finding parts or fixing the corvair. Check with Matt with Matt's off-road recovery. He collects them . I'm sure he would put you on the right track.
Squeezy’s face and head shaking (noooo!) is priceless 😂😂😂
FUNNIEST ONE EVER, Squeeze's face said so much, from happy to "I can't beleive I'm in this circus"
I just wanted to say thank you to Squeezy for the painting. I pray everything arrived, more to come.
God bless you and your family.
Thank you
I love how this has become a family past time to work on projects together most kids could careless and want to do they're own thing and to see wawa get in there and enjoy it Im proud of her shes paving the way for todays generation of girls keep it up wawa
Yes, and on top of that she plays classical piano😮
Squeezy not real excited about the van. Lol lol. Cracks me up.
She’s a mess
Miss working with my dad RIP dad
yes i will love to see you work on the MG
Yeah we need to
34:10 the rain absolutely not disturbing anything. it's rather soothing and romantic in a way, like being in nature, in a tent or log cabin. stop worrying. 😉
Really impressive the way you get these old cars & trucks running again. So cool to watch.
Thank you
I had a hand in restoring a '61 Rampside for my boss thirty-four years ago. He found it sitting in a dusty Wyoming field, along with a '62 Greenbrier. Both had to be hauled on a trailer back to Michigan. I got the Rampside's engine running with minimal tinkering, and it had been sitting for years. Body was straightened out and painted the same color as your sample picture.
I drove that pick-up around alot after it was done. It was a 3-speed. And it did have the line coming from the gas tank up to the cab for the heater.
The van was used for parts and we never got it running.
I had one of those dealer albums for 1959 Chevrolets. I bought it from Hemmings 1980. '59 Chevies used to be my favorite because that was the year I was born.
“Why is it smoking so bad?”
Everyone forgets Ralphie dumping Mavel Mystery Oil in the cylinders.
LOL!
She probably has bad rings.
The 95 badge was introduced with the 95 horsepower update. Back in the day, we had a Greenbrier-badged 80hp. My uncle liked it and bought a new 95-badged Greenbrier in 63, with the 95hp upgrade. Ours melted its first cylinder barrel in Whitefish, Montana on the way from Massachusetts to Lake Louise (we never made it because the engine was being rebuilt.) A couple of years later, on the way to Mexico, the Powerglide lost reverse and it was traded for a used '64 Biscayne in Tennessee which finished the trip without incident.
As an amateur radio operator I can tell you that "telegraph thing" Is a Morse Code Straight Key made by MFJ It's not old. They are from the last decade-ish. It's used to send Morse Code over amateur radio frequencies. I have a couple of them. ALSO The rain sounds cool. It makes this van a rainy day project!!!
Josh, the Crankcase Blow-by tube is clogged. Just clean it out and she'll be fine. The very first time I was paid to do any mechanical work was on my aunt's 63 Corvair Monza Coupe and I removed the Blow-by tube so to relieve the crankcase pressure and lower oil consumption. Enjoy.
Squeezy’s reaction was priceless… I am with you, baby girl❤😂😂😂😂🙃
Best part was when everything first went to hell on the test drive and father and son jumped out and ran to the back and Squeez just looks straight at the camera and gives a thumbs up.
That was funny
My Dad worked at Dallas Power & Light in 1963 and they used those vans like you workin on. They had to pull a small trailer to carry all the tools and equipment to do the jobs they was doing. Hope y’all get it running✌🏻
Very cool
Now that’s a true family car. It literally takes the whole family to operate it. 😂
That’s right
The test drive had me laughing so hard. Can't get it in gear, string connected to the motor, smoke. doors flying open a little bit of everything. Good to see a family having fun together.
🤣🤣🤣
As soon as that van arrived, I said "Holy crap it's a Corvair!" I would have bought it too. I had a 1970 VW Bus and have always regretted selling it. That was the first vehicle where I learned to work on it myself.
That's a Squeezie vehicle! Paint it pink with white daisies, and she will be fabulous!
Yeah maybe
❤🐖❤🐕❤️🐈⬛❤️🐐❤ Thank you for loving and taking great care of all your Fur Babies ❤❤
All comments aside I love watching your videos, such a great example of faith and family! My dad and I worked in the shop for decades and those are my fondest memories of him today. We restored his old 67 Corvair, i rebuilt that engine and when it was all done placed it on a dolly and started it out of the car. Sold that car after his death (estate took it) But it ran for years faithfully..
Scoooby Dooooo!!
Please paint it up like the Mystery Machine 😂
That would be cool
I believe the Mystery Machine was a Dodge.
Squeezle is a hoot! I like her personality.
She’s funny
At least ya'll won't have any mosquitoes around anymore !! Just too dang funny !
I love how you make working on projects a family affair. The knowledge and hands on experience your children are getting is invaluable. It doesn't just teach them how to work with their hands, it teaches the how to problem solve. Great parenting.
Poor Squeezy’s looking like, someone please tell me this is just a bad joke!!😅😂😂😂Poor baby!!!!

I think it's great the whole family works on these projects. That was a very exciting test drive. Keep saving these gems.
Loved watching we love how you all work so good together and have so much fun so many giggles and laughs. Love all the Farm animals also.
I was recommended the other day by UA-cam about the gentleman who brought you the van. It's fascinating how UA-cam's algorithm picked up on his story about Sleeperdude and recommended it to me. I'm confident that you made the right decision in acquiring this old van. Thanks to Josh Tosh and family, an old van will be given a new lease on life. Thanks to car enthusiasts like you, we can keep our automotive history alive by restoring these classic vehicles.
I saw it also. Great that he was so respectful of their house and family.
Yea, too bad Obummer had that cash for clunkers program that destroyed a lot of old cars that could have potentially been saved. It hit us hard in the south. 😮
Rings are stuck. Run it until they come loose. Or fill the cylinders with penetrating oil, and let it sit. Motor sounds pretty good. If you had serious problems, you'd have at least one dead cylinder. Worst comes to worst, you can buy new jugs and heads, but it doesn't sound like you need them. Comes apart like a VW motor. Good luck!
You are probably right about the rings being stuck, but how does it have enough compression to move it along?
I think just the oil control rings are stuck. The compression rings are fine. Could also just be obliterated valve stem seals. @@mexicanspec
@@mexicanspec They are stuck at the exact diameter of the cylinder when it was parked. Any variation in the inside diameter, as the piston moves in and out, results in oil getting past the rings. Most of the time, there's enough compression in each one to run, but it doesn't stay the same throughout the piston's travel.
You might try Matt's off road recovery in Utah for parts .he has a really cool corvair wagon 4x4 and a van ! He's a good guy. Watch his videos there, great, just like yours!
I checked with Google and it says Corvairs have tubes with seals on both ends that the pushrods run in. They're bad to fail and it will burn a lot of oil. The good news; a kit with all of those seals is like $15. Engine doesn't even have to come out.
Our very own Renaissance American Family. Sweet! Perfect mail run vehicle.
Good idea
Purple Zip Tie: That's Factory!!
Absolutely
In 1962 My Father got a NEW GreenBriar, van, 80 thundering horses, 3 speed,,, and AM Radio,,, it was beat to death for the next 5 years till my Brother put a 110 horse engine in it, was a lot of fun ..
That’s funny
Best part of every Saturday is a sleeper dude video, Happy Easter 🐰 everyone

I wish they could do twice a week. I know uploading and editing videos to UA-cam is quite challenging. I don't bother much with uploading content to UA-cam. UA-cam's uploading system appears to be falling behind the times and becoming outdated. On the other hand, Facebook's uploading system is much simpler and more user-friendly. Although I'm not a big fan of Facebook, I must admit that they have nailed it when it comes to uploading content."
That's a cool old van. Love the fact that it's a 4 speed.
1:04:40 How is it making that much smoke got me laughing 😂😂!! LOVE the vids!
Love this family. Kids are learning to problem solve, using their awesome brains and having fun doing it.
Some drunk Chevy worker put the motor in the wrong end😂

You should had pranked your kids by wrapping a pull rope from a lawn mower around the pulley, Tell them it's a pull start . 😅😅😅😅
That’s funny
First rate gag. But how many kids of a certain age, even KNOW what a pull rope to a lawn mower is?
😂😂😂😂😅😅😅
VW bugs did have a rope start option!! www.google.com/search?q=pull+start+vw+beetle&oq=vw+pull+start&gs_lcrp=EgZjaHJvbWUqCAgCEAAYFhgeMgYIABBFGDkyCAgBEAAYFhgeMggIAhAAGBYYHjIKCAMQABgPGBYYHjIKCAQQABgPGBYYHjINCAUQABiGAxiABBiKBTINCAYQABiGAxiABBiKBTINCAcQABiGAxiABBiKBTINCAgQABiGAxiABBiKBdIBCTEzNzAyajBqNKgCAbACAQ&client=ms-android-motorola-rvo3&sourceid=chrome-mobile&ie=UTF-8#vhid=qUhni7CuWz8kUM&vssid=l
@@dans_Learning_Curve Well I kind of got the idea from knowing that plus seeing the cooling fan pulley on top. My uncle and my grandpa were big in these bugs. My grandfather bought a flooring companies bugs they were using to advertise with they had covered these bugs with the little squares of carpet. He bought these back in the 80s I helped him take all the squares off of these cars.
You're taking me back to great times again Josh.
Age 17 I was driving a 64 Ford Econoline van and my best friend, he had a 65 Corvair Greenbrier.
PS: We always had to finesse the gear shift to go into gears bc of the length of the shifter rods from the front all the way to the back.
Good therapy The Sleeperdude channel.

So cool glad you enjoyed it

This video brought back memories..my throttle cable broke on my 67 VW. I had a friend with me and he squatted half way in and out of the engine and worked the carb..I would yell out the window so he would let off the throttle..we stopped at an old
dairy barn and got some seed grass string and ran it so when I was driving I could work the throttle..first I have thought about that in years..thanks for making this old feller smile....
Great show. Good to see her runnin and trying to drive. You guys are a hoot. Thanks.
That telegraph key would make a pretty cool starter button for something.
Yeah for sure
That’s what they used before cell phones 😂😂😂
Our family had the Greenbriar Deluxe Camper edition. It was our family car for Mom and Dad and 4 children.
We lived in Middletown, Rhode Island.
Brings back so many good memories seeing this.
Dad worked for the Telephone Company and we took one week vacations three times a year. We camped all over Maine, NH, Pennsylvania and more.
I think the Telegraph Key you found may have been used to study for a Ham Radio license. Back in the 60's-70's one had to be able to send and receive a certain number of words of Morse Code per minute to be able to get the Ham Radio License.
Awesome Video!
Thanks again!
squeeze went from so dissapointed and unimpressed to having a blast
Such a cool van can't wait til yall get it running ❤❤❤❤❤😊😊😊

funny squeezee had the look like she thought it would be a Ferrari 🤣
I know right
They should let Squeezie paint it to make up for her disappointment.
The change of expression on Squeezes face between when she first saw it and the test drive was amazing. The test drive has to be one of the funniest things I've seen on the channel so far.
Love to y'all keep the great content coming.
Reminded me of a Laurel & Hardy movie, can't find the gears, doors flying open, using string to work it which breaks, and all the smoke too. And Squeezie sitting there thinking, "Why don't you do something to help me?"
I don't notice any problems with audio when it rains on my end. It sounds fine. Love the videos
You guys stay safe during these storms and tornadoes that's coming through.

For sure
It's a Morse Code key for ham radio.
Or a cool starter button!!!
@@markc2643 , I was wondering about that , or if it was something the phone company would have used for testing.
Definitely for Ham radio
My dad had so many Corvairs. 5 boys in the family, all of us wrecked one. Wish I could have been there for this one.
Love that you got the van running.
Of course , I knew you could do it .
Yes! Thank you!
8:53 "Should I Bounce?" LOL!! I don't think Tosh quite gets the reason you'd bounce when a car gets stuck LOL. But very cute!! Also love Wah Wah's T-Shirt "Country Girls don't retreat, The just Reload!". So as they're looking through the book he mentions the "Monza" and he calls it "The Monza Spider" The Corvair version of the Monza Spider was Turbo (I think). There was also a Chevy in the 1970's and I think into early 1980's that was called "The Monza Spider" which actually had a Big Spider "Painted" (Decal I'm sure) on the hood just like the Trans Am Fire Chicken! Okay "Firebird" (which was supposed to be a Phoenix rising I believe). The Monza is still around in very limited numbers usually as a drag car or just a restored show piece or maybe a Hot Rod. Actually in the first four or five episodes of "Road Kill" they get a hold of a manual V8 Monza which they found would do epic burn outs and donuts then drove it for a bit and tried to add some leaf blower Turbo charging to it a few episode later. LOL. The Chevy Vega and Chevy Monza were basically the same car except not as close as say a GMC and a Chevy Half ton truck. They were distinct styling but very close in every other basic way." But
🤣thank you
I think u should ask squeeze to paint the sides of the new van with her art
This van is really amazing. You could always ask Matt’s off road recovery about Corvair motors. He loves his corvair
Great video gang! Boy the old girl fired right up, but the rings, cylinder's or both are shot most likely. Cool old van.
Been watching you for awhile and this is my favorite. I loved the test run on string and no brakes. Your kids are gonna have the greatest stories ever told.
Yes! Finally got the timing right, can see the video and still have time to sleep for work. The Blaire Witch project... a scarry movie from back in the day... now I feed old.

Fascinating, corvairs got a bad rap , undeserving, gm corrected the famous swing arm and its great to see a green briar be brought back .
Squeezy scream when the door opened lol and when telling her to look where she’s driving and she says are you talking to me. Lol
I bought a car sight unseen, and had them deliver it 2 hours. Convenient, and turned out good
Awesome
I had a Greenbrier in high school! Fun vehicle. One thing you gotta watch for on the air cooled cars is trash blocking the cooling fins on the cylinders. Grass, mouse nests, etc. That motor was acting like it was overheating, and that would be a likely cause. Driving while overheating by the previous owner may be the reason for all the oil burning too, the rings are scarred up. Worth rebuilding- parts are plentiful, and you may be able to get away with just swapping out the jugs / pistons.
This was the best vlog ever. I was laughing so hard, I almost started crying...it was super hilarious...with the switches and the string...reminded me of the time outside St. Louis when my windshield wipers stoped working and I hooked up some string and tried to pull them in the rain while driving...it did not work...ha! Resored somewhat after 37 years, amazing...God is good!
Thanks, Chris from Key farm .
