  • Teri Kearns was an awesome Uber passenger of mine back in 2018. Last year she was diagnosed with HIV. The story of what came after this diagnosis is a mixture of shocking, stressful, terrifying and inspirational.
If you watch the episode of Funny Uber Rides that Teri starred in, you will assume that she is somewhat of a party animal which may have been the case once upon a time but now she runs a successful marketing agency, she fights professionally in the ring and has her own podcast called Fair Bit Going On - which I was a guest on last week!

I can really relate to Teri’s story about her HIV. I use to be a police officer. I was searching a known AIDS person who was an intravenous user. After asking him if he had any weapons, narcotics or needles on him and him telling me “no”, I started an external pat search of him. As I got to the leg area, I got poked by an uncapped used syringe. Inside the syringe, there was blood, which is normal for intravenous users. I had to be tested for a year for HIV and AIDS. It was very stressful each time I got tested, even the last test.

Thank you Terrie for being so open about this time in your life knowing how successful and how wrong this could have turned out because there are a lot of people out there with closed mind i know this could help a lot of people out there that are going through the same thing but know knowing there is light at the end of the tunnel so brave your amazing Terrie, its now illegal in the UK to sleep with someone if you are possessive without declering it to the person your going to sleep with and can go to prison much love and respect to you both from England

I had a similar experience with cancer. I live in the US, but during an international visit to Taiwan, I was diagnosed with cancer. I ended up spending the rest of the trip feeling like my life was over. I came back, told no one, and just started making appointments and following up with doctors here. The doctors ended up telling me that my cancer was the "good" kind because it could be surgically removed and there's not too much of a chance it'll come back. I'm about 5 years cancer free at this point. I took the opportunity to lose weight (down 164 lbs/74.3kg) and get other aspects of my health back into a better position.
I think she handled the situation extremely well. It's really hard to get through a health crisis on your own. So huge shout out to her friend that was there to offer support and love through the whole ordeal. That is a true friend.

Her story kinda hits home. In 2019 I decided to see a urologist after having issues like peeing blood and bladder infection related issues for about two years. I was 18 when I started having issues. At some point in the beginning I went to see a doctor and they told me to come back if the issues would keep coming back (I didn't have issues all the time but it kinda came and went). I only went to finally see a urologist after two years of having issues because the issues weren't constant and I guess I was kinda afraid or ashamed because of the kinds of symptoms I had. When I went to the urologist, they immediately wanted to have a look inside with a camera. During the examination they found out that I had a tumor in my bladder. This was quite a big suprise for the urologist as well since that normally only happens with older men (past their 60s). They told me that in these rare cases there's more than a 95% chance that it's cancerous. Shortly after I went in for a CT scan to see if there were any tumors in my organs near my bladder or in my testicles, and I also got my blood tested to see if those values were al okay. Luckily nothing was wrong with the rest of my body. A little more than a week later i went in for surgery to get the tumor removed and after that I got a chemo treatment in case it would be cancerous. A few days after the surgery I got the lab results of the tumor and luckily it ended up being a benign tumor. Up until this day I have to come in for a check-up every year to make sure nothing has come back. Because I was a very rare case, there's no telling if and when it'll ever come back. All they know is that there's normally a 70% chance it might come back in which case it's cancerous most of the time. Anyways, it was quite a strange experience not being sure if I had cancer or not, even though I didn't have to wait as long as Teri before getting my results back.
For any young guys out there reading this: don't be stupid like I was and wait years before finally seeing a doctor or urologist if you're having any kinds of issues 'down there'. Even though it ended up not being cancerous, the tumor could have ended up growing way deeper into the sidewall of my bladder which would have meant removing it would cause a hole which in turn would mean i'd have to get a stoma installed for the rest of my life. Don't be ashamed of having issues with your downstairs. Most guys don't talk about it with anyone, but a lot of guys experience some kinds of problems at some point in their lifes. It's nothing to be ashamed of and it's not worth the risk not getting yourself checked out if u ever do experience any issues.

I know nothing about this woman but she is so brave to tell her story! When she talked about the call from the Doctor and he told her it was negative, I felt a rush of relief come over me! I was SO happy for her! I can't imagine how stressful that must've been for her!
It is so true how IGNORANT we are when it comes to HIV. It is not talked about enough. I had NO CLUE how hard it was to contract through unprotected sex. I did know that it was contracted through blood and that needle users are more likely to contract it if they share needles but I honestly thought you could get it from bodily fluids...wow...just wow! So happy for her.

I have no idea why this is except that they somehow may have "violated the community guidelines". Whatever the reason, I had nothing to do with it and wish the powers that be would stop the censorship BS.
