I wish Bosch had set theirs up like the Dewalt. It would be nice if it wasn’t connected to the plunge base. Thank you for taking the time to share this video.
You're very welcome Miss Carmen...
After 40 years of woodworking I have used most brands of routers. Dewalt makes a very good line of routers. Their dust collect accessories are absolutely the worst. Customer service is less than helpful and they have no charts or manuals to tell you which dust collection accessory you need to buy for any given router. Bosch on the other hand has a listing of exactly what dust collect accessory you need for each tool , listed on the same page with the tool itself. I do not work outside, as time goes by I am trying to collect as much sawdust as possible , not only for health reasons, but to keep a cleaner shop. Dave I love your channel and you have taught me a great deal. Thank you so much and keep up the great work you are doing. Duncan
Thank you for watching and the kind words and the feedback... I appreciate it.
Both the main base and the plunge base dust collectors that DeWalt make are great. If you are going to do edge trimming, or an edge profile you will need a different aftermarket collector or some CFM Vacuum that is bigger than a standard sho vacuum.
For most of us a vacuum is a must. Up here in northern NY, carving outside is really a no no. So vacuuming in any shop can't be ignored. Good video!
Hope it works for you Bill...
Yes, it works well when the router bit is not exposed. But try this dust collection when making a rabbet where the router bit is exposed. This is where most of the dust is simply pushed out from under the plate and there is nothing to catch it. For such applications, a different adapter will need to be designed. I hope somebody does that, maybe anyone with a 3D printer could do this.
Thanks for testing the dust collection device for us Eric. It would definitely be helpful for those who are carving indoors. I personally would not use it for a couple reasons though. As you said, it would restrict the use of the router and I don't like listening to the vacuum noise if I'm spending a good bit of time working on something. I don't understand the dust collection device totally covering the view of the bit unless you cut out the back of the base. I wonder what the manufacturer was thinking when they developed it as people who aren't familiar with your channel would never know about cutting out the back of the base.......go figure!
You're welcome. Thank you for the kind words. I was hoping it would be helpful for someone. When you think about what almost everyone (accept us) uses palm routers for seeing what you're doing thru that window is not a priority. Thanks again for watching and the feedback, I appreciate it.
I have been using it for a couple of months and love it. I have it connected to my shop vac with a remote Christmas light switch so I don’t have to get up to turn the vac on.
Terrific, happy it's working for you. Thank you for watching and the feedback. Please let me know if I can answer any questions for you, eric@makeawoodsign.com
Thank you! Never knew this existed and ordered one after watching your video. I really need one! Thanks Eric!
You're welcome Micky, hope it works for you...
Great idea Eric ! This is definitely something I have to try.
It worked better than I thought it would
Glad it worked.
Thank you Mark...
Great experiment. Now that you have shown us this we can add that to our planning. Thank you and your camera work was great.
Thank you Jim, happy to help..
thanks for sharing great one , and God Bless Always
Thank you Danny...
I do this with the 5" Disc sander that you showed us. Of course I bought one and love it. It sucks up 95% of the dust. That might be a good video to do. Thanks for another great video. Jack Durning Scottsville VA
Thank You Jack, good idea...
I need to try this especially for rainy days when I can't use router outside good job.
Might be worth checking out.
Great work
Thank you David...
Great job with the dust collection Eric. Works great when you get use to it. I made a dust collection system out of the Rockler catolog and it works great for me. Parts and pieces and adapters that work on various tools and saws. Just have to get use to it. Fred. 👍👍👏🏻👏🏻🙏🏻🙏🏻
That's terrific Fred. I'd love to see pictures if you can email me, eric@makeawoodsign.com
Nice demo. I don't like any restrictions either. Good to know if the need arises. Thanks.
Thank you Bob... Just thought I'd share for people that really needed it....
I ordered the plunge router attachment for the 611 and the dust collection for it but they sent the one you have there and of course it only works with the base unit, upon contacting dewalts cust. support they sent me the correct one, got to keep this one too, score, small shop PNW so most all work is done on inside, these are a game changer. Just have to get use to it being there
Terrific Billy. Didn't know they made 2 different ones.
I have to admit this definitely started the wheels turning this morning I guess I need to look and see if I can find something like this for either one of the two routers that I have as always you’re humble student
It's worth checking into. Good luck buddy...
Thanks Eric for trying this. I've used a vacuum on my 611 doing normal routing and will try this while working on signs. The restriction may improve my signs since I'm too shaky to begin with! (lol) I use a hand-held Dirt Devil vac that has a nice, flexible, and light-weight hose that fits the 611 adapter.
You're welcome Terry. Yes I find the hose makes it a little more restrictive. Don't worry about the shakiness most of us start out that way. It'll get better.... For dust collection I like this method better ua-cam.com/video/BXoD7JFtyMw/v-deo.html Thank you for watching!!!
You did good by yourself Eric!! Might try this on my Dewalt disc sander. I think I might try a down draft table when I set up my router table for dust collection. Or a leaf blower after I'm done making saw dust for the day!
Thank you Greg for the idea. It works with the random orbital sander.
@@oldave100 I did use my little 6 gallon shop vac with my Dewalt 1/4 sheet palm sander when I was sanding guitar bodies. It worked pretty good
I want to try it for health benefit
Good Idea!!!
I have never used the dust collection on my DWP611. I may try it attached to my shop vac. There's no way I would even attempt hooking it up to my shop dust collection system. LOL
Might be worth trying if you could get used to the feel.
i have a few different brand of routers , and they do have dust collection attachment .like you it has too many restrictions. it is ok on backgrounds , but i don't like it for carving the letters and artwork on the sign. good video.
Thank you buddy. Yeah I just wanted to do it for people that really need it and maybe could get used to it...
Maybe or maybe not I'm with you I'm used to the way i use my router
Yea me too...
Seems to work well but I'm like you, don't like something restricting movement. I just wish I could come up with something for the disk sander's massive fine dust.
On our FB live last night I showed it does work with the random orbital. Haven't tried the disk sander yet.
Great concept....But......I too am like you I do not like anything on my router that makes me feel restricted while carving.
I agree, but some may not have a problem with it...
What is the attachment called/ where can I buy it at? I will need that for dust collection. Thank you 😊
Here's the link to it in our amazon store. www.amazon.com/dp/B004AJEUKS?ref=exp_makeawoodsign_dp_vv_d Thank you Linda and let me know if you have any other questions, eric@makeawoodsign.com
Just tried it mate , not for me either . Great vid though.👍
Yea me too.... Thank you...
Will that work on the dewalt dcw600b?
The @mullettools dust collector works with pretty much everything
We’re can I get the vac attachment
I honestly can't remember. I believe it came with the router several years ago.
What is the name of the attachment? I just bought a Bosch palm router and the attachment wasn’t with it.
Not sure of the name. Try Dust Collection Attachment.
i have used it but i dont like it on there because it interfears when you have to do fine detail that is why i dont like it
Same here... But thought it was worth sharing for people that really need it and can maybe get used to the feel....
@@oldave100 yes that is true i did want to use it but instead i put in a exhaust fan that plugs into 110 and it is quiet, i do my carving in a second bedroom i have and during the winter
