After a tour in Germany ( with a four moth deployment for Desert Shield/Storm) I was stationed @ Benning with the 29th from April 92-July 94. Yeah this was very close to my first day @ basic. The tallest black drill sgt is Drill Sgt Allen from Alabama. He was ranger qualified, called cadence really well and use to hump recruits' backsides while they were doing up-downs and were bent over in the down position touching their toes. When they moved without command he smoked them. He was one of those dont ask dont tell types and a predator. He stomped my lumbar while I was in the elevated front lean & rest position. I couldn't feel my legs and was paralyzed from the waist down for about two hours afterwards. My battle buddy, Zachary Boyer of New York, and another buddy dragged me around the barracks , my arms around their neck, one recruit on each side, praying for me, til my legs came back to me. Drill Sgt Tuarez gave me a ranger candy and gave me time to get my feeling back in my legs. By God's grace I wasn't permanently paralyzed for life. Cpt Bennet was our company commander and drill sgt Tuarez was my senior drill sgt when my platoon graduated honor platoon. Drill Sgts Swanson, Mercado and Barker were also there. Barker wore an S.F. tab. Everyone of them had gulf war combat patches and a CIB.
