Love your videos. We are going there in February but will stay in Da nang. I like when you interviewed with people who actually live there.

Am in the US. Looks like I have to work very hard until am 80's. Everything is so expensive here and besides, legally, my retirement's age is 68 (actually, is 67 y. o. and 8 months). I see many doctors in my hospital are still well working at age 70-80's :). I LOVE working and I'll work until the day I cannot work anymore. Thank you so much for another wonderful video:)

This gentleman is one of a kind. I am considering going to Vietnam to teach, and hopefully, I get to meet him. It is very pleasant listening to him speak. I am from NY myself.

I felt being in my mid-thirties everyone going over to teach was younger than me. Not the case at all!

@ eZE EzE, pollutions in Vietnam is mainly associated with Hanoi & Ho Chi Minh City. But smaller cities pollutions is not a concern at all. Da Nang or Nha Trang, for example, they are beautiful beach cities as clean as any Western cities, and very modern as well. Even Ho Chi Minh City, if you stay in district 7( Phu My Hung) you feel as if you were in Singapore.

wow this story was amazing! I can tell he is very passionate about teaching. I feel like he can mentor new teachers on how to setup their classes and lesson plans. Everything just went together for him like god planned it. Also expecting marriage too. Congrats! This must be the encore stage of life I always hear about when you get older.

I would very much like to see more follow up videos and know more details about how Barry has moved permanently to Vietnam while teaching English. He obviously has his TEFL and I assume he has a Bachelors Degree, but I would like to know more on how he deals with visa's, health insurance and a permanent living situation. He mentioned in the video he may be getting married, I know that is a way to get a permanent visa. But does he rent a place, or has he bought property? And clearly he has very good skills in teaching, I think more follow up videos with him would be valuable to prospective and current English teachers, particularly people who are considering teaching as a second career.

We could try do a follow up at some point. Barry came through our program where we help everyone with all the things you mentioned. We have a lot of videos on this channel that you can get the majority of the information you need for free though so have a look around. :)

@@ninja.teacher Yes please, that would be great. I have been watching several videos on your channel, and I'm am interested in possibly a second career and retirement in Vietnam. Barry seems to have navigated all the everyday issues of being a U.S. citizen and moving permanently to Vietnam, and it also sounds like he's a fantastic teacher.

From what I've googled, there are two very potentially discouraging aspects about living in VN. They are the very real risk of severe sunburn (eventual skin cancer) and lung damage due to severe air pollution. Of course long sleve shirts and face masks can be worn on a daiy basis. However, I would think that would become exhausting, eventually leading to just not bothering which would be the begining of serious health issues.
I am fare skinned and love tropical settings. I often think of VN or Thailand for a TESOL live/work experience long term. Yet, the whole motor scooter and exhaust fumes thing coupled with the VN intense sun seems unwise. I have literally had Vietnamese people on social media tell me NOT to move to VN precisely for those two reasons. More significantly, I had not even asked them about that. Their suggestions were voluntary. It seems the way most deal with the sun is to go around like nomads in the desert all wrapped up for element protection.
I want all the above to be so not true! LOL! I mean I see the Ninja crew chilling as though none of these things are ever a concern. The gentleman in this video hasn't mentioned anything about environmental challenges and apparentlay fully intends to dig in and live there permantly. That's awesome but I wonder what his thoughts will be a little further down the road.
I have lived in the Caribbean and Central America. Eventually I stopped applying sun-block and just did the hat, shorts, t-shirt, flip-flops thing on the regular. It's not safe but it was the way life played out. You think you "get used to it" but that's impossible for some people. I am optimistic and objective minded, not paranoid. To me these concerns are very real.
Any thoughts from those with experience are greatly appreciated. Thanks!
