The GTA26 is a pruner. The best feature of it is the chain guard. We use ours to prune nut trees and the guard allows cuts in spots where the chain could cut where a cut is not wanted. As mentioned below the GTA26 is also handy when chipping tree limbs, cutting branches that will not fit in a chipper. We also use ours to cut up limbs on fallen trees.
I absolutely love that little saw. I bought one a few months ago and have been trying to get a second one but no one has any. Also would like extra batteries and chains but they don’t seem to be available either. If you have any in stock I’ll take one. Yeah that case is not going to last but it’s nice.
Great review, Neil! I've had mine for well over a year now and it is used constantly! It's amazing how much time it saves over using a pruning saw or lopers!👍
I just bought one for pruning I love it and not only that it's a stiyl I prefer stihl all my chain saws are stihl all though I have had Husqvarnas great makes as well.
Actually looks like it would be perfect for wood chipping. Most branches need a little prune up before going in the chipper. I use a reciprocating saw for that and would really like to have a one handed saw.
I actually bought one for my wife to do pruning - the lopers were really taking it out of her and I thought these were a safer alternative to the Stihl battery chainsaw... as turns out, we also do a ton of chipping on our property - pine, cherry, oak, black locust, and black walnut and as you surmised these are AWESOME to trim up branches that the hydraulic feed can't seem to eat. For a $120ish these make chipping easier, quicker and safer.
That's why I'm interested. I have a pto-driven woodchipper and I think this would be perfect for dealing with those pesky pieces that won't fit thru the chipper.
That is a great idea! Stupid invasive buckthorn usually need a little trim before my Bobcat chipper attachment can eat them. Stupid things... we usually cut down whole thing and try to (unsuccessfully), feed them into the chipper whole. Haha
I'm a big Stihl fan but this fell a little short for my usage needs. The lack of a chain oiler or should I say, having to manually oil the chain was too much. I found the Milwaukee Hatchet a perfect fit, for me.
Oh well, what made me decide to get the Stihl GTA26 is that it’s a primarily a pruner. The chain guard protects trees from unwanted cuts when pruning limbs at awkward angles. We have around 1000 nut trees to look after so need a good cutter.
I am a big Stihl fan, too, and I agree. Milwaukee’s M12 Fuel Hatchet 6” Pruner is a better alternative. It is brushless, 12 volt battery, and has an automatic oiler for the chain. And, it is much more readily available right now. Most Home Depot’s have them in stock.
I am a big Stihl fan. But, I think Milwaukee’s M12 Fuel Hatchet 6” Pruner is a better alternative. It is brushless, 12 volt battery, and has an automatic oiler for the chain.
This reminds me of a list of things to buy for your man. One entry was something like this: Chainsaws, men love chainsaws. Never ever buy a man you love a chainsaw.
I will be the first to admit it would be a great tool for small jobs…. But I still think it’s just like a moped. Fun to use, but I don’t want my friends watching me use it.
GTA26s have been in short supply in Australia too. We were very lucky to get one in December last year. The best Christmas present ever. GTAs disappeared from the shops afterwards but I was at a shop that is a Stihl dealer the other day and they had a few of them. So they might be shipping them again.
“The runtime on this is very acceptable.” You give the runtime for another battery-powered chainsaw not used in the video but never mention an estimate for this one.
I bought it for my wife for slight trimming and she loves it and then I tried it and it’s awesome

Is anyone else really glad that Neal didn’t wear the compatible chaps? 😱
Nice tool and demo

Neil thanks for making a video about this. I will be getting one this weekend. This is exactly what I need!
Good luck, the GTA is in short supply.

I have one and it's great for what it's designed for.
Light and potent, a great tool.

Neat. I only realized 2 days ago that Stihl even had battery powered equipment
Cool.
I was at Ace Hardware and saw the GTA 26. Nice pruner but 10.8V and twice as expensive as the Ryobi 18V battery powered pruner.
But a little chainsaw is awesome.

Tried to pick one up yesterday. Dealer said "good luck" and "if I find one i better grab it". They won't even let them order any more.
It Is cool. I have had one since April.
It would be really neat if there was a pole attachment for this tool to give you a little more reach.
Hence the name, handheld.
This reminds me of a list of things to buy for your man. One entry was something like this: Chainsaws, men love chainsaws. Never ever buy a man you love a chainsaw.
The size and light weight of it makes you want to trim everything in sight
😅 agreed. That's why i bought extra battery 🔋🔋🔋
Honestly if you have dewalt Milwaukee ryobi etc get a cordless sawzall witch can also be used for a lot of other things
Cool little tool, although I don't personally know anyone who's tractor toolbox (2:10) would hold that thing! 😉👍😎
Perfect for trimming the deer stands. Also to keep in the camper
And adjust the length of furniture legs. And decorate the edge of your dining room table. And make catflap openings in every door. And...
I will be the first to admit it would be a great tool for small jobs….

Nah, they will all want a go with it.
Because of GTA in the title they showed me GTA game ads during the video 😂😂
Imagine if the GTA26 was a weapon in the game?
Cool tool 😀
I have been trying to find a place to buy the GTA26 and would love to buy one. Can you sell us viewers one. Very much looking for one of these?
We're out of stock too.
CCR equipment in Essex Vermont had 4 or 5last weekend.

The chain on mine keeps jumping off. Not sure what is causing this.
Tighten it. Its loose
@@rampfirejogernutdrive2115 I can't find a way to tighten mine??
@@vickyschafer1771 do you have the same module? U tighten it from the side
@@rampfirejogernutdrive2115 yes, I have the same model, I think I finally figured it out . . with the wing nut?? not much adjustment tho
Be excellent to take camping
Why not just use a reciprocating saw?
Because the little GTA26 chainsaw is awesome. Fast, smooth & brings a smile to your dial.
@@kdegraa I mean, sure, but is it worth $300 for what it does?
If you a thousand nut trees to prune then yeah it’s worth it. We have a second battery so one is charging while the other is pruning.
@@MrLookatmyhat I paid $189.00 out the door a few days ago, more efficient than my reciprocating saw for pruning!

Perfect for your mother in laws meatloaf.
