Whilst I still love how well made the 1225 is made, there's still a part of me that ants to see a version 100% loyal to how the movie engine looked, headlight embedded in the smokebox door and all.
I have made one with Lionel’s ho version of the polar express that’s true to the polar express no feed water heater Baldwin 3 chime recessed headlight and no numbers on the cab
Chris my father and I always enjoy your enthusiasm and excitement you have for this hobby. We have been adding many new locomotives and rolling stock to our collection this year and I'm currently working on a holiday 072 shelf layout in my mancave. Hoping to share it with all of you very soon!
Yup, the train was hella fun to ride, rails just appear for it and it's one you'll run to catch regardless of what your footwear is after I got home from riding it I ran through the snow and entered the front door, my parents were shocked because I didn't leave any footprints in the snow weirdly enough
Hands down, the best Polar Express model I've ever seen, I love the hobo car, such a nice touch. I love the Polar Express movie was a favorite as a kid, so it's great to see it come to life in an O scale model and hearing lines from the movie coming out it. Great video.
Christmas in July, a concept that Hallmark seems to love as my mom watches the same movie plot around the clock lol. I enjoyed this trip down memory lane of The Polar Express film and Lionel’s vision of the story come to life on layouts across the landscape. I only have the Lionel G scale version of The Polar Express for running under the Christmas tree and village, its actually what sparked my interest to get back into the hobby and I am working on a different layout for Christmas this year with my O scale trains. Over 5,000 subscribers, Chris! I have to say, it’s probably the smile and your jaw line….. but all kidding aside, I am proud to say that I was here before 500 subs and I believe it is your genuine love for the hobby, your story telling and the way you make your audience feel inclusive in your layout….plus the hair, can’t forget the hair lol. I don’t know if you can hear that? It’s a bell ringing…I guess it means that I still believe! Merry Christmas, Chris…in July…of course ❤️
Thank you my friend! I love all of the variations of the set. It is a great story with a great message. And thank you for the kind words! You have been here since the beginning and I truly appreciate all of the support…and humor! Have a great weekend!
Love the setup. The Christmas lights on the bridge really adds to it as well. Hoping that I can get my girlfriend and her 10 year old son onboard to do a Polar Express run this year. I'd REALLY like to do the one in Galveston but that may be a little too far for a day trip so may have to try Grapevine, Tx instead.
Great video! I have the original Lionel Scale model with the PM markings and the Polar Express version of the tender. It is crazy to hear all of the "movie" sounds in the Legacy version. In edition 1 the only movie sound was "This is the Polar Express. All Aboard."
I just want a scale Berk! Even if it was just a PE locomotive and no cars, scale berks are FIRE! (but so are the S3's). One day I'll get one... Also, 5K subscribers! Your channel is quickly growing... Congrats!
That was great. Even at my “advanced” age I still hold onto Christmas Spirit. We have a large home and each floor has at least one tree and a couple have two or more. We even put one on the back patio to be seen from the side street. Seeing the setup today and that beautiful train set kinda made me start thinking about what we will do this year. Oh and the red shirt, excellent. I know I’ve given you grief over the shirts but I have to say you are wearing them well. LOL. Again Chris, excellent video. Always love seeing them. Take care my friend. Tim
I have all N gauge or N scale. When they bring out one in this scale, I’ll get one or even in Z scale. Doesn't have to be exact - just close because I’m not a perfectionist. I just don't have the space for a larger scale set.
I must say, your Polar Express train and layout is the best experience to the actual movie! I really enjoyed all of this magical moment as I also love Christmas and this movie! Thanks for sharing!
Wow. I believe that the Scale Berkshire’s are some of the best Legacy locomotives Lionel has ever made. They are a perfect size and the sounds are incredible. My dad has the 2014 10th Anniversary locomotive and 6 of the scale passenger cars with black roofs, and I love running it every Christmas. Great review!
I have the 765 and the PE 1225 and they are 2 of the best engines in sound and performance. When stopping the creaking and moaning of the engine is just stellar.
You cannot have a proper Christmas without seeing the film at least once. As someone who owns two Legacy Berkshires (the Southern 2716 and the rare 115th anniversary Berkshire), I think you’ve got the best one. Will for sure keep my eyes out for this one next
I believe I have the first model they had come out with due to my train cars are a bit different with detail and the engine being slightly different in detail. But alll in all great trains
Beautiful set and running session! Polar Express, Pere Marquette 1225 in particular is my favorite locomotive of all time! I remember wanting a Legacy Polar Express as kid, but the MTH 1225 in HO is as close as I'm gonna get haha! I would love to see Lionel release a completely movie accurate Polar Express. Sunken headlight, white lettering, etc. Anyways, another great video Chris! Excited for more to come!
I love your video! Can you tell me the exact model and sku of this set and where I can purchase it? I’m trying to get a set for my grandchildren and I want to get this set. Thank you.
Is there a way to make the lights yellow without changing the bulbs? That’s a dumb question but seriously. It would be more accurate to the movie if Lionel used some of their yellow bulbs like they did in trains from like 10 years ago or whatever
I have the HO scale version and boy did Lionel cheap out on those. Even the cars are cheap. I might get an MTH Berk, if I can find one, and repaint it to the Pol Ex. I do just need one last car then I’ll have the 5 cars it is meant to pull.
Whoa, just found this video, most excellent. I have the 10th Anniversary with all of the scale cars too. I love running this on my Christmas layout I keep up ALL year. Without a doubt, my Lionel Polar Express is a crowd pleaser. Again, thank you for sharing this with us. Keep Christmas alive and well in your heart 24/7.
Hello! I've noticed on different videos the interior lighting on the trains can be an amber golden glow or a white florescent color. On your review it looks like a white/green florescent color...is that just the video or is the led lighting really that harsh?
Really cool video I do not have that high scale of The Polar Express train like you do I have the more affordable version LOL but I am still extremely happy with the product that I have it Sparks my imagination and keeps me uplifted in the Christmas spirit if I am ever lucky enough to upgrade to the other higher-end model that would be really awesome to we'll see what happens this Christmas👍👍
Love it! Im a huge Christmas time fan and love the movie. I'm currently building my first ogauge layout and want to incorporate a Christmas scene. my last layout was On30 without a winter scene.my children always wanted a Christmas scene. Thanks for the inspiration.

My parents got me the original Lionel version when i was a kid for christmas. It was later stolen out of a storage area. Only thing that really bothered me about the storage being broken into.
I wish Lionel would make a polar express set with the locomotive from the movie because the polar express locomotive has a few differences from the Berkshire it’s based off of it would be nice if they created a new mold instead of taking one of their Berkshire molds and slapping the polar express name on it It would also be nice if they used the whistle from the movie and only use dialog from the movie instead of some of the boarding noises and generic sounds
Hey RBP! I’m so excited for the 20th anniversary Legacy Polar Express train set. I also ordered the abandoned toy car, the diner car, and add on coach. Did you look at the 2024 catalog yet? As soon as I spotted it on the cover and flipped through the digital page, I knew I had to get this set.
Your love of trains is very well presented. You spent allot of time on your detailed layout. So happy that people still appreciate Christmas Time. Seams everyone I know no longer see the season for what it is. My Mother believed and I still do. Thank for sharing your trains and spirit.
I have had this one for years. I preordered during the last run by Lionel. It has become a tough one to find but I am sure Lionel will release it again
Love this video Chris! The Polar Express is one of my favorites as well. I have the original 027 set that I run around the Christmas tree every year. I also own the scale Berkshire with passenger cars that I enjoy running at my Train Club’s layout during holiday open houses.
Would you mind (if you're able to), list out the part numbers/sku's of the cars you have for this? I can't seem to find the same cars you have. Also, is this "O" or "G" scale/guage?
Great video. I always love the Polar express. My grandfather left me some LGB trains you’ll see on my channel that are a lot of fun with the kids around the holidays
Well done as usual Chris. Keeping the spirit of Christmas alive the whole year through. I admire your scale Polar Express set. I bought for my 3 sons the regular set back in 2005 when Lionel first produced it. I did purchase every add on car they offered every year thereafter, do now they have a huge set, along with the Polar Express diorama, the Hero Boys house, animals, etc. It really does make fir a nice set. Your scale set is beautiful though. Hopefully you’ll put together another video on it during the holidays again.
@@RBPTrains My friend Nick from Nix Trains said he’ll be seeing you tomorrow. Say Hello for me. Maybe we can all meet up some day soon. Have fun in Strasburg this weekend.
this movie has saved this whole train hobby thing. I got the O guage one for my family and have a fairly nice small display too but because of the movie
Curious why the Berkshire doesn't have the Pere Marquette markings on the top. I have the 6-11203 and both the PM and PE tenders. Had to order them separately, It's my 2nd Berkshire after the first one was rammed in the back by another train and started to wobble around curves, now I keep it for parts. This is by far and away my most favorite set,
This is the more recent scale version. Lionel dropped the Pere Marquette markings on this one to align a bit more with the film. I agree with you that this is one of my favorite sets! Sorry to hear about your crash but at least you were able to get a second engine
Is o gage the same as o scale and also do you have to put some special liquid for it to smoke and also dose what gage and scale is it and also can it fit on a regular track
Great video, detailed, informative, and entertaining. Thank you. Question, I can't find a Legacy version of the Polar Express in the 2022 Lionel catalog, is it no longer offered?
Really nice set, and a great video Chris. My layout is all Christmas/ winter-themed, with Pol-Ex, Christmas Vacation, Elf movie, Frozen and more. The small "theater" room next to it is Always Christmas, with three trees, a full-size Santa and decor. My favorite time of year, and it's so relaxing when I'm in there.
Very nice set up. I’m new to this. I want to know which one I should get. I will be using it in my dept 56 Christmas village. I do not want a entry level. Some thing in the middle. Could you please suggest? Also it’s for my three year old grandson. I want something that will last a long time . Thanks
There are some great Lionel Polar Express starter sets available at sites such as Trainworld.com. They are well built and should last a long time. Thanks for watching!
What a FABULOUS village! I'm blown away that you completed this massive undertaking in only 21 days! I would have taken 21 MONTHS and still be working on it! Just marvelous!!
The movie brings me joy with plentiful of motivation and Christmas spirit this train brings everyone to the north pole to see Santa for many years to come.⛄🚂🎄🌟
@Unuruu King - the scale Polar Express engine that you see in this video is sold out but does occasionally show up on eBay. There are still Ready-to-Run Polar Express sets out there. The ready-to-run sets are semi-scale size but have many of the same sounds and are still alot of fun! I am sure Lionel will make the scale version again in the next few years.
Good and entertaining video! Was that really hot chocolate you drank or was it water? haha! I occasionally drink hot chocolate to help warm myself up after a cold outdoor morning swim! Well Done Chris
Great video! I am also very lucky to own the Scale Polar express. I believe it’s the same run as yours. It’s an absolutely beautiful engine, definitely one of my favorites. Too bad they are so rare now, hope Lionel rereleases it during the next Berkshire run!
Lionel and I go a long way back. My first one was in 1957. C&0 locomotive, and the Yard train with Tin cars made in Germany. My brother and I spent many nights sleeping on the couch, because dad set a table up in our bedroom for the trains, about 6 months before moving it to the garage. But your set up, and collection makes mine pale to insignificance. 👍👍& 10⭐+ 💯😀 for the Lionel Lines.
Only thing to make it better is ride the real polar express pere Marquette 1225 used for the sounds of the movie and some of the whistles came from Sierra railway #3 which they used the whistle to represent a Baldwin round top 3 chime even though 3s is a Lima 3 chime, n1 #1225 is arguably my fav engine next to big boy and 4449
My local shop has one. I have some preorders that are consuming the train budget at present but maybe one of these days I will get the Pere Marquette version

I love those lighted coaches!
Let's see the Polar Express on your New bridges! 😎
You bet! I ran this set alongside the Hiawatha in one of my more recent videos. It looks really cool spanning the bridge!
Great video! I am also very lucky to own the Scale Polar express. I believe it’s the same run as yours. It’s an absolutely beautiful engine, definitely one of my favorites. Too bad they are so rare now, hope Lionel rereleases it during the next Berkshire run!
Very good video, Chris. You tried to duplicate some scenes from the movie and with some imagination, it works!
Another great video. Lionel did a great job with that set. Thanks for the video, and, the spirit of Christmas truly comes from the heart.
I have the 2014 train set. Pretty darn cool
I’ve honestly never been a fan of the voice control on the trains. Takes away from the TRAIN aspect for me
what do you think of the porlor express high speed train?
Only thing to make it better is ride the real polar express pere Marquette 1225 used for the sounds of the movie and some of the whistles came from Sierra railway #3 which they used the whistle to represent a Baldwin round top 3 chime even though 3s is a Lima 3 chime, n1 #1225 is arguably my fav engine next to big boy and 4449
i loved the movie and watched it over and over again as a kid. seeing this is very cool. i love it
Are you aware that the real Polar Express (Pere Marquette 1225) still running now? Do you want to ride (or again) on it on Christmas?
Now all you need is the pere Market tender if you don’t have it
My local shop has one. I have some preorders that are consuming the train budget at present but maybe one of these days I will get the Pere Marquette version
@@RBPTrains where do you shop mostly now??
