Yes. These are great neighborhoods. I live in Hyde Park and have not used my car in nearly one year. It remains in the garage. I can walk to the grocery store. I live a block from the museum -science.The metra train system is one from my home. The bus system is on the corner of my condo building, I catch one bus to head to downtown Chicago. I have a small dog. At this very moment, we are walking to the lake, which is a half block from my home. There’s so many nice communities. You have to determine which is best for you. If you have a car, you better have a dedicated parking spot. Otherwise, you will continue to have tickets .😂
This video helped so much. I have teenage daughter and its super important to have somewhere safe. My wife and I love to walk our boys. I hope we can move into one of the neighborhoods with not a lot of diversity to bring diversity to the neighborhood. Thank you for all of this videos
Thank you so much for this very helpful video! My wife and I are moving from Hong Kong to Chicago this summer and the criteria you used to judge neighborhoods mirrors our own. Diversity and easy access to the El / trains (since we won't have a car either) are top of our list and I'm curious if you'd recommend we consider any other neighborhoods beyond what you've included here. Thanks so much again!
Wow, welcome to the city. That is quite the move! The ones I listed are still my favorite overall but you could try looking into Gold Coast (it's higher-end/pricey but really nice and close to downtown) or even the West Loop area (beautiful, industrial feel, lots of restaurants) these areas don't need a car. Good luck on your journey guys!
@@TimewithLivi I here ya. Chicago has a lot of diversity. You should consider Hyde Park on the south side or Edgewater on the north side. Both fantastic neighborhoods!! Welcome to Chicago!
I did alot of renting From the West side the Austin area u can get alot of bang for ur dollars I had a 2 bedroom apartment was paying 500$ I got free electricity Then left there moved 7 blocks away above a barbershop i get my haircut.. Then moved to Lakeview loved the neighbors.. Moved to Bucktown didn't like the grocery stores Then I moved to Roger's Park had a studio I was paying 500$ Left there moved to little Italy loved it waking distance to UIC LEFT THERE N WAS IN GARFIELD PK DIDNT LIKE IT STAYED FOR A MONTH THEN .MOVED TO BELMONT CRAIGIN B4 I DECIDED TO BUY WHICH IM ON THE BORDER LINE OF EVANSTON/ROGER'S PARK 2 BLOCKS OFF THE LAKE BEEN HERE FOR 4 YRS IM THINKING ABOUT RENTING IT OUT I WANT TO BUY A BUILDING STAY THERE FOR 2 YRS MIGHT BE IN BASEMENT RENT OUT THE 2 ABOVE ME IM LOOKING NOW.
Avondale, Uptown, Logan Square, Pilsen are my favorites. Resident of Chicago for 8 years. I lived in River North and it wasn't for me. I have to work downtown and I like coming home to community.
really appreciate this video and your channel! I WFH and Chicago is one of cities that my job will allow me to move to, so this is really helpful. I am visiting for the first time this weekend and am hoping to make the move when my lease ends next year.
Everything you said about Lincoln Park is so true, amazingly fun and beautiful area with an extremely high price tag. My family moved to the burbs almost a decade ago because the taxes just became too much
Not from Chicago but I only been there once and that was it which was last month. I grew up in Cincinnati, Ohio where most people wouldn't bother you as much in Downtown areas but always be careful wherever you want. I love my state of Ohio but it could be brutal cold in the winter.
My bf is born and raised in wicker park (37). He tells me stories about how it used to be a “low income” neighborhood with a lot of violence and that it was a heavily Hispanic community. Around the early 2000s is when he started really seeing the gentrification of the neighborhood. Seeing it now, I refuse to believe him 😂
Those are nice! Just pricey because of the area. Personally, I like more of a smaller neighborhood feeling which you can find further from the concrete playground.
These are 100% yuppie neighborhoods, insanely expensive, and crowded/noisy. If you're over 30, don't bother. River north also has the addes disadvantage of night clubs and lots of drive-by shootings. For the price, I'd say it's one of the worst deals in the city. Only plus is it's close to the loop and other stuff. The neighborhood itself is too crowded and hectic at this point
Lincolnwood & Park ridge is further than I've ever been so I don't know. Wicker and Rogers are much closer to the city and the things to look out for are pretty normal. Through a grapevine, I've heard of a carjacking story and scratchy areas at night you don't wanna be walking alone. It's still a city so just be smart. I've lived in Wicker and I was fine. I see families there all the time. Rogers does seem to have more homeless tho
Many people are surprised how many parks, and forest preserves (land set aside which can’t be built on, is 13% of the entire county), the outskirts city neighborhoods are surrounded by acres of woods, and lots of parks too throughout city big and small. Lincoln Park (actual park) is massive and lots of trails, a zoo and more, can feel like not in city in many parts of the park. Almost all these areas are not where native Chicagoans (for most park) grow up, more post college areas where many live for few years and move after looking to buy or raise family. Of course, are exceptions, but younger people havens with lots of rentals and generally more expensive than farther out neighbors . Rogers Park (far north) and Albany Park (north/nw) are both on train lines are some of the most diverse neighborhoods in the entire US (if looking North specifically and diversity priority). The West portion of Logan Square in primarily Latino population.
Like the video a lot, but the magnitude of double comparisons/redundancies is high. more older, more pricey, closer in proximity? And montrose is mispronounced. Glad to have you as a neighbor and welcome
Edison Park is arguably the safest & best neighborhood in Chicago. This is why all your city workers live there. Go as far north as you can afford would be my advice. Anyone who really knows the city will tell you that.
@@chismprism Edison Park is like living in Park Ridge or Niles. That is not a neighborhood for a younger single person (especially not a black person).
😂I don't know anyone looking to move, sry. Check out Facebook market. People are looking for roomies and you can stalk their profile so you can get a feel of who they are. Good luck out there!
I’m saying this respectfully and not trying to pick a fight I swear. But how can Lakeview be dinged on diversity when it’s basically the gay capital of the Midwest? obviously, it’s very white, but isn’t there more to diversity than just skin color? very good video thanks for filming.
That is a great point actually. Thanks for bring this up. Yes! I love North Halsted so much! There are a lot of people of all walks of life. That being said it's also named Boystown because you will see A LOT more white gay men here that anything else. They really rule the area and there is talk of a lack of representation of the other of the LBTQ people. Hence why the name Boystown has been dying off. Plus it's only like two streets and if you step a few blocks out it next to the frat-est mans mans area of Wrigley. Its all kinda funny.
I live in Chicago guys my advice is don’t move to Chicago it awful I can’t wait intel I leave Chicago it a bad place to live I got drive 1 hours for work
Aw thats so sad to hear. It's not a perfect city and may not be for everyone but it really does have a lot to offer. I wouldn't want to live anywhere else at this point in my life. Hope you can find the perfect place for you☺
As a Chicago native (now living out of state) looking for part time places I must say you are spot on!
Check out Hyde Park, Bronzeville, Andersonville, and Rogers Park.

@chismprism Thank you!
So ready to get out of west loop and move to another north Chicago neighborhood. Great seeing another black woman in north Chicago!
Love to hear it😊🙌🏾
Why? West Loop is a very nice neighborhood.

That's awesome! Happy birthday. Fall things to do in Chicago video coming soon!
Great to have found a black creator with this content. Id love to hear your experience living in places outside of the hood
lol facts I was looking for the same thing a black person insight
Add Hyde Park to the list. I live one block from the lake. I no longer need a car due to the walk ability score. Diverse ethnic groups.
Thanks for the insight. Only been there once so didn't have too much knowledge on that area
I live in Edison Park, extremely safe, yea it’s further out, but with buses and blue line I can go anywhere!❤️
Never been but the outskirts have a lot to offer as well. Its great it connects to the blue line! Thanks for sharing

I'm moving to Rogers Park in December and I've seen all very positive reviews of it
Yeah, great area. Good luck with your move!
High crime, don't go near Howard. Sheridan also not great
Rogers Park is buck wild!
Everything you said about Lincoln Park is so true, amazingly fun and beautiful area with an extremely high price tag. My family moved to the burbs almost a decade ago because the taxes just became too much
Yeah I feel you on that. This city is getting higher priced by the day smh
How about noblesquare?

😄I've heard that story also. Even over recent years, Wicker Park continues to change. Its becoming more boujee year by year
I know WP well, it was another wild hood at one time
Love your channel, you’re super cool. Thanks for this video
Thanks! I appreciate your kind words❤️
Why no North Lawndale or West Garfield Park
Those places are way too far for me 😅
Not from Chicago, I’m just curious, what do you think of the West Loop or River North neighborhoods ? Cute sound effects!

nice list for northsiders...what do you recommend on the southside
Personally I love Hyde Park area and ChinaTown/south loop
Hey Im from The Bronx NYC and i wanted to know if wicker park rogers park Lincolnwood park ridge or des plains il are safe area's to live
Lincolnwood & Park ridge is further than I've ever been so I don't know. Wicker and Rogers are much closer to the city and the things to look out for are pretty normal. You seem like the type of person who likes wide open spaces with more greenery. What would you recommend closer to downtown if you had a choice?
You're right about that. Everyone is different. I like my distance from the city personally. Its all about what you are looking for

What about oak lawn IL?
Never been there. Seems like more of a suburb. This video focuses on places close to downtown Chicago.
Minwaukee?

I was going to live in Gold Coast years ago. It was a little too bougie for me but still a nice area
Thank you
No problem! Thanks for watching
Monorose beach ? 😅
Edison Park is arguably the safest & best neighborhood in Chicago. This is why all your city workers live there. Go as far north as you can afford would be my advice. Anyone who really knows the city will tell you that.
Being that far doesn't even feel like being in a city at all. I wouldn't recommend being that far unless you want a more suburban neighborhood.
