I love Chicago. I can actually live here without being financially stripped-down ever month for basic expenses while doing the things I love. I recommend Chicago to anyone looking for a world class city without being driven into abject poverty. Plus the transit system here is excellent!

I visited Chicago two years ago. What stood out to me was the amount of sidewalk space and how timely the subway was (not sure if I just got lucky, though). I definitely would want to come back, at least to visit and have Portillo's.
If you come back im local. Can show you the local places the good stuff... see cuz the locals now consider portillos just the edge. Just as olive garden isn't true italian or taco bell isn't really Mexican food or panda express isn't authentic Chinese, theres way deeper into the rabbit hole. 🤔 only thing for you to consider as you return is that i offer the red pill only. And everything is back open again. Right now you could eat out at all the festivals and not even touch a restaurant. But on the regular you could literally have a filipino or Japanese breakfast, polish sausage sandwich or Vietnamese banhmi lunch, and then kumas Korner for a stupid good huge ass burger. And i have not even touched pizza yet
In my 30 years in Chicago, I would never have concluded that the public transit system was timely. Quite the opposite. The waiting periods between trains is definitely much shorter in NYC, and there's far more of them. All in all, the transit system in NYC beats Chicago, not only in timeliness, but accessibility, and convenience. Large swathes of Chicago have no access to rapid transit. One can easily reach most places in New York's boroughs and the tri state area by train. Catching an L train, late at night in Chicago, is a hassle, since one can wait one half hour for a train, which is grueling if its on the elevated tracks during the sub arctic winter. The incredible thing that people take for granted in NYC is how a massive this 24 hour system, works as well and efficiently it does.
@@LUIS-ox1bv Chicago is a wannabe world class city. Not a real one. All of that is true. Most of Chicago's politician's wants the citizens to rely on CTA, walk, or ride bikes (no freedom of transit). NYC is known for its transit system. The traffic issues come from older infrastructure (narrow, outdated).
@@LUIS-ox1bv In my nearly 40 years in this city, I've found it to be MOSTLY timely and reliable, with some lines and some times distinctly better than others. On the whole, I've found it to be fast and convenient and I speak as one who is totally reliant upon public transit
I'm from the East coast and can say confidently Chicago is a highly underrated city, but hey, we can keep it a secret ;). For those that think Chicago is cold, the Winters have gotten more mild over the years. It's not so dissimilar to Boston (+/- a few days out of the year). It's balanced city that also happens to be located near one of the largest bodies of fresh water in the world, which has its potential perks in light of global warming.
Chicago is a much easier city to navigate for me. The weather does suck, but hey it’s the Midwest. I’m not totally sure on this, because I’ve never eaten at a NYC steakhouse , but the Chicago steakhouses appear not to be as snobby as NYC steakhouses, this is just a hunch. I love Chicago steakhouses.
Southside Chicago here! There is a significant comparison between NYC and ChiCity. I love both of them. The main difference is the vibe. Chicago is more blue-collar, laid back, and spacious with a Midwest vibe that has a sense of humility, a slow pace, and open nature. Not a flashy and party city like New York. I always believe that Chicago is more of a museum, has a great eco-green environment for family adventure outings, and is an eatery dining restaurant city. The only thing New York has more than Chicago, is it's the entertainment, fashion, and music capital city in the country and world. Very diverse and less segregated unlike Chicago. Chicago is a huge city but a very intimate city you can enjoy one on one with great space.

Strong racial tensions in the 1960s even when Dr. King came he said he experienced racial inequity and treatment more than he did in the South. Matter of fact, Blacks back in the days were denied housing to live in affluent neighborhoods so they had to settle in impoverished areas, we called that Red Lining.
Never thought of Chicago to be a romantic city but when you said that is has this sorta romance vibe I immediately agreed. Living in LA, everytime I came back home and visited Chicago I just fell back in love all over again, great place for young adults. Good luck in NYC man great video. Chicago is TOO romantic. That's one of the many reasons I would never think about visiting there. The number of alternative people is high on top of it. Life is literally like an episode of the Addams Family, The Munsters, or said CW/FOX show.
It is cheaper than nyc, it has lake michigan and compared to nyc its newer in buildings and looks a lot more colorful and cleaner, like chicago has the blue lake water, yellow city lights and new buildings and super green parts that pop especially in the summer time if that makes more sense, but I love NYC for all it has to offer like it's an actual 24/7 city, and has most headquarters of big companies and industries, and I like the vibe of nyc like greenwhich village, cute little boroughs like that. I love both cities.
I agree with about 99% of this. I just hate the fact that New York is not really a 24/7 city anymore like it used to be, and i know that was mostly caused by the pandemic and most businesses chose not to go back to the old way of doing things, but that’s a side of the city that I loved and we unfortunately lost. NYC is no longer the city that never sleeps.
as a born and bred new yorker, i feel a bit attacked. however, it's understandable. i just hope that more outsiders explore the outer boroughs as well cuz they're usually overlooked.(if ure visiting nyc get tips and advice from people that lived there since they were young. most of the "visitors" that go there for work or vacation don't know anything about the city tbh.)- a queens kid
Nice video. And Chicago is by far my favorite big US city to visit. There’s lots of things to do, the food is great, the people are nice, and it’s really easy to get around without a car. And its grid layout makes it just about impossible to get lost. And I’m glad you mentioned the elephant in the room-the weather. As someone who grew up in Southern California I was not prepared for how cold it gets there. So, if you’re planning to visit I suggest the spring or fall.
Chicago is a city of how you make it to be. There is endless opportunities,definitely a hustle mentality if you choose,diverse cultures,entertainment,etc… however since neighborhoods are essentially isolated from each other which is why it’s actually called “the city of neighborhoods” it’s up to the individual to seek out all those opportunities. Is it a place to raise a family or is it a place to be an entrepreneur? I think that it’s a great place for a person who has the ingenuity and strength to make it a more world renowned city like NY and LA. All it takes is that spark ⚡️ to ignite the fire of creativity.

Thanks for your insights! Have been super conflicted about where to move next (grew up near NYC but currently live in DC/B'more area)... Love the chill vibes and lack of sticky humid weather of many west coast cities but they just don't have the extensive transit infrastructure of cities like NY, Chicago, and DC (I HATE driving). Chicago seems to have most of the amenities of NY at a fraction of the price. I'm a little worried I might have to scale back my lifestyle which tends to value frequent travel in order to live in NY. Both have good nightlife (for the U.S. anyway)... Applying to opportunities in both and we'll see what happens.
Thank you and that's the reason I hate the place. Too elegant, too classy, too nice, too cultured, too refined...of all cities in the US, Chicago is the most depressing and embarrassing.
Thinkin of moving to CHI after college. I'm from STL, so its not to far and only a train ride away, and it just seems like its a better quality of life with more opportunity.
As a former St Louisan myself, I can attest that Chicago is infinitely better than St. Louis. It's far safer, and better built, with more entertainment and cultural venues, more and larger parks, better housing stock, vastly better architecture, and far more economic opportunity. I only wish I'd moved here sooner than I did.
Most of the problems with NYC have to do with crowding. Too many people in one place. Its only gotten worse over the years. Chicago is more spread out and also cheaper than NYC. I found that surprising. A friend of mine bought a nice size house in Chicago for less money than a 2 bedroom apartment in Queens.

Depends on what you consider safe. I’m from Chicago and currently live here. Plenty of families in my neighborhood, which is relatively safe. However, you still have to keep in mind you’re in a big city and crime can happen anywhere. Roscoe Village is a really nice and family oriented neighborhood. So in Lincoln Park. It really depends on what you want out if you’re neighborhood honestly. We have 77 different neighborhoods and they’re all very different.
I lived in both Chicago and New York City. The north side of Chicago is pretty safe. I lived in Edgewater section of the north side. Look don't let these people fool you Chicago is nothing like New York City if you like New York City. If you want a calm big city with less l would think Chicago would fit your needs. If you want cheaper rent Chicago is better. But this video is all wrong because Chicago does not compare to New York City which is overcrowded and packed in with a crazy pace and culture that all cities with 8. 7 million plus have. Chicago only have 2.7 million people and is slower and calmer.

I lived in a high-rise condo building of 54 stories tall. Chicago is less expensive than New York City and very manageable vs New York City which is very expensive. Eh, it’s the same weather as all of the upper Midwest. It’s generally warmer than Minneapolis or Milwaukee or Detroit. I don’t get why there’s such a focus on how bad the winters are here. We don’t get a lot of snow and other than the occasional polar vortex it’s really quite comparable to other cities at this latitude IMO.
That was a big culture shock for me with New York even after having been to many other cities in the US, the way that even in 'nice' neighborhoods trash bags just gets tossed on the sidewalk and not in a can or dumpster or anything.
I’m from Nashville so Chicago was my nearby big city of the big 3(LA, Chicago, and NYC). Chicago has the best skyline, better food, and less cost! I’ve been to NYC and was not not impressed at all!

The nickname Second City doesn't necessarily mean second tier; in fact there's no logical reason to equate it as second tier given the nickname has numerous theories behind. If we look to one theory which is comparing to NYC it's just that NYC is a behemoth. And about the networking, if you can't network in Chicago then you aren't going to network in NYC. Though there's about 8 million people in NYC, only 2 millions are in Manhattan. So, realistically, Chicago is just competing against Manhattan - not The Bronx, Queens, SI or even (western) Brooklyn. You can make a million dollars in Chicago or practically any mid- to large city America; NYC isn't unique to this.
Chicago isn't terribly cold, at least not for long periods. I find the winters to be pretty mild, or, at least, bearable, compared to legend of those who don't live in Chicago. I hardly wore an overcoat during the winter. I walk one mile to work.

I’m 36. I’ve lived in Chicagoland for half my life. 127th and western area. Admittedly not a city boy or a southside g. But Legit 18 years of my life in these parts. Those other 18yrs were spent in North Carolina. I met some NY homies out here and they was cool af. I wanna try that pizza. See what them hot dogs about. Its true. I literally went into a Rosatis pizza downtown Chicago under the el after midnight. Smoked up had the munchies. There was little line at all. Maybe 1 person or 2 at most. But now that you mention it, its like that at the taco joint, the jerk place, the ramen noodle place, except for places like themed burgers like kumas korner. Or sometimes harolds chicken or mitsuwa sutadonya bowl theres most definitely lines there! Chicago not only in the city but the burbs have variety too. Or extended branches of famous local restaurants

Yes Chicago is America's 2nd city, New York has more population and it ends there. Everything else Chicago just does bigger, better, and grander. Chicago doesn't have to prove itself, it is that city that is what it is. Overwall it's just simply the best city in america and certainly one of the best cities in the world.
@@phoenix5054 Chicago is 2nd in having a much larger skyline than both LA and SF put together and 2nd largest rail transit system out side NYC. LA feels like a big suburb vibe lacking dense 19th century historic urban neighborhoods with El tracks over its streets. Chicago feels like it has more urban grit to it.
That's very easy to compare Chicago to New York City because you already know you pay less rent in Chicago. And it's far less crowded in Chicago vs New York City. Chicago is far more manageable for the average single person than NYC. I think it's the skyscrapers in Chicago that confuses these "City Virgins" out there. They think Chicago is like New York City because of the skyscrapers in Chicago and therefore they compare the two cities. I'm from Philadelphia but lived in both Chicago and New York City. I can even say Chicago was easier than Philadelphia.
Mom comment here…Chicago is cleaner and friendlier than NYC. Buildings are nicer and your dollar goes farther. It’s easy to dine at high end restaurants and not feel like you just emptied your wallet. Miss the midwestern charm. Wishing my son the best in NYC but my heart is in Chicago.

Wrong. 2nd city refers to the intense rivalry between NYC & Chicago the early part of the 20th century. Chicago was growing so fast it soon would overtake NYC in population. NYC then incorporated Brooklyn, Queens. Bronx and Staten Island with Manhattan to ensure it didn't happen
It’s not a proper comparison. NYC is better comparable to London, Tokyo- both major Global cities. Chicago better compares to Toronto or a similar sized urban area. Chicago is a spread out, far less congested and the vibe is nothing like NY. I spent half my life in each - living on the near northside of Chicago now. It’s night and day. Sorry!

Same, asian filipino here holding it down for 40 years. If theres 1 thing Chicago teaches you how to hustle. To be always on the move and not stuck in a rut. In a literal sense. Its in the animals the wildlife in the people, just like the weather. Teaches people here to prepare for harsh life, to be stronger than your circumstances and get shit done before the weather turns but come out like a vengeance with no limit when the weather is good. I've lived in Chicago and Tampa Florida and I honestly prefer the frigid temperatures in winter Chicago to the heat, humidity of summer Florida. There's also a particular beauty to the winter in Chicago

I've been to both. Manhattan is better than Chicago. The people are much nicer not like the media portrays & the crime is not as bad in New York like it is in Chicago. In Chicago the people are rude as I have experienced first hand as i have experienced first hand and the crime is bad. I have been there to the loop, West side, Northside and South side. I didn't feel safe going there. Yes the crime is not as bad in the loop but it's not unheard of. I would never take my family to a place like Chicago because the people are rude, the crime is bad and it is horrible. The people in New York also don't pay much attention to what happens in Chicago. Chicago on the other hand always looks for any type of attention. Yes they are proud which is fine but they show hatred for other cities. That's one of the reasons why I would rather visit other cities than chicago. Shouldn't Chicago be worried about their own problems than worrying about other cities? Why doesn't Chicago show concern about it's own citizens from crime instead of bragging about how great they are? Why does Chicago brag about how great they are? Also there are other cities that are much better than Chicago that have great skylines.
Agreed, I was born and raised in Chicago but have lived in NYC 25 years. New Yorkers are completely friendly, in fact they are the most social people I've seen in the Western world. I talk to random strangers everyday about random topics as if I've known them for years. NY was bad in the 80s and 90s but not now. Chicago is BAD BAD. In Chicago you can easily get murdered over a fender bender, putting up any type of fight during a robbery etc. There are 3 murders a day, shootings all over the city, robberies - any type of crime happens in Chicago. It was great growing up in the 80s and 90s during the Bulls era, but it got real, real bad in the last 10 - 15 years. I feel very safe in NYC.
Its the corruption plain and simple. Its to a level of being institutional that is beyond the control of the working class. As a native the only way i can explain it is violence and violent crime are the voices of the unheard. Downtown they dont listen to our requests and then have to tolerate the screaming later. It has been said empires last for 250 or so years, and nobodys been at the helm in years. Dozens of schools shutdown and the kids turned life into a game of gta for real when all the jobs are everywhere else but the hood. While other cities got better after the crack epidemic in 80s 90s brooklyn nyc or the coke fueled 80s miami or rodney king in and rampart 80s nwa era lapd 90s.... let me repeat this, things did NOT get better here. The changes those two cities made were not here because of corrupt institution that willfully fights change. And most of what did change wasn't for the better. I am a filipino American that lived here 40+ years. Pretty soon more n more people will be making the realization not only to leave Chicago but leave the us entirely because of the realization theres other places that are run better besides being affordable

@DC Nah that's just because you grew up in segregated area. It doesn't mean it's natural. I grew up in Queens, NY and it wasn't too segregated. I have friends of every race and it wasn't common for people to have long time, best friends of every race because we all went to the same schools and grew up with each other. Yes, many people chose to hang out with their own race but it wasn't like it was totally exclusive. If you didn't grow up in a big integrated city like NYC, London, Toronto, LA, Sydney etc, then you wouldn't know. Just because YOU grew up that way doesn't mean EVERYBODY grows up the same way.
@DC Also, 2nd generation Asian Americans are the perfect example of this. There's no 2nd generation Asian American town in any major city in the US. They literally live anywhere and amongst every race.
I live in New York City, but had visited Chicago before. Only decent parts of Chicago are the downtown and the lakeside. It’s cheaper, but people there aren’t always friendly. New York City has a lot more to do. It is also driving distance to three other states, if you are looking to drive for less than an hour. Chicago has two states, but still. Also, New York City has better beaches. Of course, only upside is that Chicago is cheaper to live in, but honestly, parts of New York City outside of midtown and lower Manhattan are just as cheap to live in. Also, you don’t even need a car. You can just take the subway for 2.75 anywhere you go. Even to New Jersey, just take the path for 2.75.
Plenty of Chicago is nice besides “the downtown and lakeside that’s like saying only Manhattan isn’t decent in New York. I’m what way do you think the beaches are better?

Catching an L train, late at night in Chicago, is a hassle, since one can wait one half hour for a train, which is grueling if its on the elevated tracks during the sub arctic winter. The incredible thing that people take for granted in NYC is how a massive this 24 hour system, works as well and efficiently it does.

NYC is known for its transit system. The traffic issues come from older infrastructure (narrow, outdated).

I'm from the East coast and can say confidently Chicago is a highly underrated city, but hey, we can keep it a secret ;).
For those that think Chicago is cold, the Winters have gotten more mild over the years. It's not so dissimilar to Boston (+/- a few days out of the year). It's balanced city that also happens to be located near one of the largest bodies of fresh water in the world, which has its potential perks in light of global warming.
Chicago is a much easier city to navigate for me. The weather does suck, but hey it’s the Midwest. I’m not totally sure on this, because I’ve never eaten at a NYC steakhouse , but the Chicago steakhouses appear not to be as snobby as NYC steakhouses, this is just a hunch. I love Chicago steakhouses.

There is a significant comparison between NYC and ChiCity. I love both of them. The main difference is the vibe. Chicago is more blue-collar, laid back, and spacious with a Midwest vibe that has a sense of humility, a slow pace, and open nature. Not a flashy and party city like New York. I always believe that Chicago is more of a museum, has a great eco-green environment for family adventure outings, and is an eatery dining restaurant city. The only thing New York has more than Chicago, is it's the entertainment, fashion, and music capital city in the country and world. Very diverse and less segregated unlike Chicago. Chicago is a huge city but a very intimate city you can enjoy one on one with great space.

Strong racial tensions in the 1960s even when Dr. King came he said he experienced racial inequity and treatment more than he did in the South. Matter of fact, Blacks back in the days were denied housing to live in affluent neighborhoods so they had to settle in impoverished areas, we called that Red Lining.

Chicago is TOO romantic. That's one of the many reasons I would never think about visiting there. The number of alternative people is high on top of it. Life is literally like an episode of the Addams Family, The Munsters, or said CW/FOX show.
It is cheaper than nyc, it has lake michigan and compared to nyc its newer in buildings and looks a lot more colorful and cleaner, like chicago has the blue lake water, yellow city lights and new buildings and super green parts that pop especially in the summer time if that makes more sense, but I love NYC for all it has to offer like it's an actual 24/7 city, and has most headquarters of big companies and industries, and I like the vibe of nyc like greenwhich village, cute little boroughs like that. I love both cities.
I agree with about 99% of this. I just hate the fact that New York is not really a 24/7 city anymore like it used to be, and i know that was mostly caused by the pandemic and most businesses chose not to go back to the old way of doing things, but that’s a side of the city that I loved and we unfortunately lost. NYC is no longer the city that never sleeps.
as a born and bred new yorker, i feel a bit attacked. however, it's understandable. i just hope that more outsiders explore the outer boroughs as well cuz they're usually overlooked.(if ure visiting nyc get tips and advice from people that lived there since they were young. most of the "visitors" that go there for work or vacation don't know anything about the city tbh.)- a queens kid

Nice video. And Chicago is by far my favorite big US city to visit. There’s lots of things to do, the food is great, the people are nice, and it’s really easy to get around without a car. And its grid layout makes it just about impossible to get lost.
And I’m glad you mentioned the elephant in the room-the weather. As someone who grew up in Southern California I was not prepared for how cold it gets there. So, if you’re planning to visit I suggest the spring or fall.

Chicago is a city of how you make it to be. There is endless opportunities,definitely a hustle mentality if you choose,diverse cultures,entertainment,etc… however since neighborhoods are essentially isolated from each other which is why it’s actually called “the city of neighborhoods” it’s up to the individual to seek out all those opportunities. Is it a place to raise a family or is it a place to be an entrepreneur? I think that it’s a great place for a person who has the ingenuity and strength to make it a more world renowned city like NY and LA. All it takes is that spark ⚡️ to ignite the fire of creativity.

Chicago is the closest city to New York that you are going to find architecturally, demographically and public transportation.

Thanks for your insights! Have been super conflicted about where to move next (grew up near NYC but currently live in DC/B'more area)... Love the chill vibes and lack of sticky humid weather of many west coast cities but they just don't have the extensive transit infrastructure of cities like NY, Chicago, and DC (I HATE driving). Chicago seems to have most of the amenities of NY at a fraction of the price. I'm a little worried I might have to scale back my lifestyle which tends to value frequent travel in order to live in NY. Both have good nightlife (for the U.S. anyway)... Applying to opportunities in both and we'll see what happens.

Thinkin of moving to CHI after college. I'm from STL, so its not to far and only a train ride away, and it just seems like its a better quality of life with more opportunity.
As a former St Louisan myself, I can attest that Chicago is infinitely better than St. Louis. It's far safer, and better built, with more entertainment and cultural venues, more and larger parks, better housing stock, vastly better architecture, and far more economic opportunity. I only wish I'd moved here sooner than I did.
Most of the problems with NYC have to do with crowding. Too many people in one place. Its only gotten worse over the years. Chicago is more spread out and also cheaper than NYC. I found that surprising. A friend of mine bought a nice size house in Chicago for less money than a 2 bedroom apartment in Queens.

Depends on what you consider safe. I’m from Chicago and currently live here. Plenty of families in my neighborhood, which is relatively safe. However, you still have to keep in mind you’re in a big city and crime can happen anywhere. Roscoe Village is a really nice and family oriented neighborhood. So in Lincoln Park. It really depends on what you want out if you’re neighborhood honestly. We have 77 different neighborhoods and they’re all very different.
I lived in both Chicago and New York City. The north side of Chicago is pretty safe.

If you want a calm big city with less l would think Chicago would fit your needs. If you want cheaper rent Chicago is better.

Eh, it’s the same weather as all of the upper Midwest. It’s generally warmer than Minneapolis or Milwaukee or Detroit. I don’t get why there’s such a focus on how bad the winters are here. We don’t get a lot of snow and other than the occasional polar vortex it’s really quite comparable to other cities at this latitude IMO.

The nickname Second City doesn't necessarily mean second tier; in fact there's no logical reason to equate it as second tier given the nickname has numerous theories behind. If we look to one theory which is comparing to NYC it's just that NYC is a behemoth.
And about the networking, if you can't network in Chicago then you aren't going to network in NYC. Though there's about 8 million people in NYC, only 2 millions are in Manhattan. So, realistically, Chicago is just competing against Manhattan - not The Bronx, Queens, SI or even (western) Brooklyn. You can make a million dollars in Chicago or practically any mid- to large city America; NYC isn't unique to this.

Chicago isn't terribly cold, at least not for long periods. I find the winters to be pretty mild, or, at least, bearable, compared to legend of those who don't live in Chicago. I hardly wore an overcoat during the winter. I walk one mile to work.

I’m 36. I’ve lived in Chicagoland for half my life. 127th and western area. Admittedly not a city boy or a southside g. But Legit 18 years of my life in these parts. Those other 18yrs were spent in North Carolina. I met some NY homies out here and they was cool af. I wanna try that pizza. See what them hot dogs about. Its true. I literally went into a Rosatis pizza downtown Chicago under the el after midnight. Smoked up had the munchies. There was little line at all. Maybe 1 person or 2 at most. But now that you mention it, its like that at the taco joint, the jerk place, the ramen noodle place, except for places like themed burgers like kumas korner. Or sometimes harolds chicken or mitsuwa sutadonya bowl theres most definitely lines there! Chicago not only in the city but the burbs have variety too. Or extended branches of famous local restaurants

LA feels like a big suburb vibe lacking dense 19th century historic urban neighborhoods with El tracks over its streets. Chicago feels like it has more urban grit to it.

It’s not a proper comparison. NYC is better comparable to London, Tokyo- both major Global cities. Chicago better compares to Toronto or a similar sized urban area. Chicago is a spread out, far less congested and the vibe is nothing like NY. I spent half my life in each - living on the near northside of Chicago now. It’s night and day. Sorry!

Its in the animals the wildlife in the people, just like the weather. Teaches people here to prepare for harsh life, to be stronger than your circumstances and get shit done before the weather turns but come out like a vengeance with no limit when the weather is good. I've been to both. Manhattan is better than Chicago. The people are much nicer not like the media portrays & the crime is not as bad in New York like it is in Chicago. In Chicago the people are rude as I have experienced first hand as i have experienced first hand and the crime is bad. I have been there to the loop, West side, Northside and South side. I didn't feel safe going there. Yes the crime is not as bad in the loop but it's not unheard of. I would never take my family to a place like Chicago because the people are rude, the crime is bad and it is horrible. The people in New York also don't pay much attention to what happens in Chicago. Chicago on the other hand always looks for any type of attention. Yes they are proud which is fine but they show hatred for other cities. That's one of the reasons why I would rather visit other cities than chicago. Shouldn't Chicago be worried about their own problems than worrying about other cities? Why doesn't Chicago show concern about it's own citizens from crime instead of bragging about how great they are? Why does Chicago brag about how great they are? Also there are other cities that are much better than Chicago that have great skylines.

Agreed, I was born and raised in Chicago but have lived in NYC 25 years. New Yorkers are completely friendly, in fact they are the most social people I've seen in the Western world. I talk to random strangers everyday about random topics as if I've known them for years. NY was bad in the 80s and 90s but not now. Chicago is BAD BAD. In Chicago you can easily get murdered over a fender bender, putting up any type of fight during a robbery etc. There are 3 murders a day, shootings all over the city, robberies - any type of crime happens in Chicago. It was great growing up in the 80s and 90s during the Bulls era, but it got real, real bad in the last 10 - 15 years. I feel very safe in NYC.

It has been said empires last for 250 or so years, and nobodys been at the helm in years. Dozens of schools shutdown and the kids turned life into a game of gta for real when all the jobs are everywhere else but the hood. While other cities got better after the crack epidemic in 80s 90s brooklyn nyc or the coke fueled 80s miami or rodney king in and rampart 80s nwa era lapd 90s.... let me repeat this, things did NOT get better here. The changes those two cities made were not here because of corrupt institution that willfully fights change. And most of what did change wasn't for the better.
I am a filipino American that lived here 40+ years. Pretty soon more n more people will be making the realization not only to leave Chicago but leave the us entirely because of the realization theres other places that are run better besides being affordable

2nd generation Asian Americans don't really face housing segregation. They live everywhere.

@DC Nah that's just because you grew up in segregated area. It doesn't mean it's natural. I grew up in Queens, NY and it wasn't too segregated. I have friends of every race and it wasn't common for people to have long time, best friends of every race because we all went to the same schools and grew up with each other. Yes, many people chose to hang out with their own race but it wasn't like it was totally exclusive. If you didn't grow up in a big integrated city like NYC, London, Toronto, LA, Sydney etc, then you wouldn't know. Just because YOU grew up that way doesn't mean EVERYBODY grows up the same way.
@DC Also, 2nd generation Asian Americans are the perfect example of this. There's no 2nd generation Asian American town in any major city in the US. They literally live anywhere and amongst every race.
True Chicagoan here... it's a diverse city with its 77 different neighborhoods and 570 individual parks including beaches... you will feel at home!

I live in New York City, but had visited Chicago before. Only decent parts of Chicago are the downtown and the lakeside. It’s cheaper, but people there aren’t always friendly. New York City has a lot more to do. It is also driving distance to three other states, if you are looking to drive for less than an hour. Chicago has two states, but still. Also, New York City has better beaches. Of course, only upside is that Chicago is cheaper to live in, but honestly, parts of New York City outside of midtown and lower Manhattan are just as cheap to live in. Also, you don’t even need a car. You can just take the subway for 2.75 anywhere you go. Even to New Jersey, just take the path for 2.75.
Plenty of Chicago is nice besides “the downtown and lakeside that’s like saying only Manhattan isn’t decent in New York. I’m what way do you think the beaches are better?
He did mention that Chicago is cold. But he didn't tell you for how long. Winter starts in November and ends in May. 50 degrees is T - Shirt weather, so be ready if you come up here.
