Good review. I’ll add my experience of this bike. So, I had a 2010 Fireblade and a VFR 800 VTEC. Both great bikes in their own ways, however I went in search of a bike that could replace both of them into one package and came across this bike back in 2013. It had never even been on my radar and I’d never had a naked bike in my life. This bike was a revelation. Smooth effortless power, great handling and a comfortable upright riding position. The power and handling no doubt helped due to the Fireblade engine and front end that graces this machine. So I traded both the Fireblade and the VFR for a new one of these back in 2013 and I’ve never looked back. I used to track my Fireblade on ‘road bike’ only track days. The Fireblade was a real handful on the track. You would run out of track before you ran out of power, which unless the bike is in the hands of a track God, which lets face it, most of us are not, it was too much. Most of the power unusable, even on the racetrack. So when my Cb1000R arrived, i decided to make many upgrades. I gave the bike the full Ohlins treatment front and back, de-cat, titanium Acropovich and a Power Commander 5 remap. I turned this bike from what was already a quick, nimble well handling package into a truly amazing machine. Back at the track i could lap Brands Hatch way faster than I ever managed on the Fireblade. The Ohlins gave it razor like precision and confidence and the added power made the bike a lot more useable than the Fireblade ever was. I could grind the hero blobs on the foot pegs on this bike when omen track and my tyres were always shredded off their edges. Thats how well this bike handled. A mate of mine at the time had a Tuono. A great bike, but he couldn’t get past me on this, no way. Also, when looking at longer trips, this bike beats the VFR hands down. The riding position is way more comfortable, all you lose is wind protection below your shoulder lever. Having said that, the CB1000R does give wind protection to your legs quite well. On my VFR, even with the taller touring screen fitted, I was always being slammed by wind into my shoulders and face which would make my head start to buffet in the wind stream which becalmed very fatiguing very quickly. The VFR also always used to make my wrists ache as it is quite a prone position for a touring bike. I am 6ft 1’. Also, the V4 VTEC engine of the VFR is clearly an acquired taste, one which i never acquired. The VFR engine has to be revved. I always found that engine agricultural when compared to the smoothness of the Fireblade lump. The VTEC system would also often add the power mid lean when accelerating out of roundabouts. You got used to it and it wasn’t really on problem but it was something the rider needed to be aware of. The best thing about the VFR was it 4 headlights. Best lights I’ve ever had on a bike bar none. Back in the day when this model of CB1000R was for sale, the motorcycle press were always cooing over the latest model of Ducati or the like. They always pitched the CB1000R unfairly amongst its peers which was a huge injustice, their main justification was that Honda never upgraded this bike during its life-cycle, but hey, why mess with perfection?! In the US these bikes were used regularly in the ‘iron butt’ competitions because of their generally high level of comfort and effortless ability to eat the miles quickly. There are panier and back box options for this bike, meaning you can load up the gear if you want and head off on a road trip adventure. For me, the CB1000R of the generation I have, is without question the best bike I’ve ever had. Up to 100mph it is as quick if not quicker than the Fireblade I traded in for it. It’s acceleration, torque, speed and confidence inspiring handling will embarrass most GSX-R1000’s (great bike as well…had a few), whilst wafting you along in true comfort. In the real world, this is one of, if not the best naked Supersport of its day for a whole host of reasons and now they can be had for a complete bargain. Worth every penny, especially if you mod the bike like I have, you’ll never want to get rid of it. Mines a keeper.
Currently on a CB600S Hornet as my 1st proper bike - near one year in but with lots of effort genuinely made to develop as a new rider (in my 50's but open minded & always hungry to safely improve ). Also looked at VFR800 VTEC 6th gen facelift. Original SC60 CB1000R on my radar albeit I see myself on a blackbird or VFR1200F eventually. CB600S still plenty for me to learn & improve on. So many Hondas (& other bikes) to try out . Thanks for decent typed review 👍
Cracking review that was, I love Hondas, I've had 4 Fireblades over the years, my last bike was a Tracer 9, loved that, but sold it in 2019, got the urge for another bike now, looked at the S1000r, but I'm in my 60's now so perhaps the CB1000r is the bike to have, it certainly ticks the boxes.
I have a 2014 model... gas cuts off automatically at 145 mph... lotsa torque, you can ride all day in 6th. Feels really light and balanced at speed. Great in sweepers at 100+ mph. Great suspension, can handle anything. Brakes are awesome... this is a bike for a more advanced rider, however. I rode smaller bikes for years before I got my CB, and I'm glad I got that experience before getting on a bike this powerful.
About time a proper irish review just bought a 010 today and its everything thing that's said here have the crap mirrors off and replaced with bolt on barend ones planning a spin up by kilaloe tommorw its safe on the motorway in windy conditions as well great review

In my experience choosing a bike is such a personal thing , dictated by training, skill set ,confidence, personal preference and background in biking to a point. Height ,weight and build may come to play also. Thankfully times have changed regarding training too.... With all that in mind can I answer that? Not really. And you probably wont know for a few weeks after your decision either. But hey whatever your decision. I hope ya have fun finding out and ride safe.

Mr Rose I'm afraid id have no experience on that to answer your question . I'm in a fairly flat and low part of Ireland :) not much above sea level. It's a good question !
Nomad Adventure Biker: Your honesty is appreciated lol! While you were riding this bike what was the wind like, was there a lot of buffeting at high speed?
I have had a couple of naked bikes in the past and when you hit motorway speeds the wind blast can cause some fatigue after a while. So riding it up to 120kph depending on weather conditions has not really been to much of an issue to put me off. Because there is so much torque in the midrange on the CB , its makes for alot of fun . However as with most bikes there is always a compromise .
Hey there , I found it ok but opinions differ with body types I guess . I usually get off any bike after an hour and a half unless I'm heading for a ferry in a hurry . but yes the seat was fine . Try to get a test ride or even to sit on one . 👍
Thank you for the review; how was the engine smoothness in-between off and on throttle? I'm asking because my CB 650f displays some jerkiness when cutting off throttle and re-engaging. I would think that their flagship model would not have such issues?
Good real world review, did the rear ever step out on throttle? Had a loaner and when i tore the throttle open it would side step as if the tyre broke away and ragained grip.....
I had a couple of these, loved them! But the rear did step out a bit with a cold tyre and over zealous throttle action. More so than other bikes I owned.
Ive not personally had that experience with the CB1000R. Many of the reviews Ive read claimed while the suspension is softer than an out and out sports bike or say a Tuono ,its still a capable track day tool. If it was my intention to use it on track days I'd ditch the stock exhaust and fit a steering damper .
I own quite a few motorcycles including Honda . I've ridden the CB and it's a great bike but the FZ09 is way more fun than the inline four. I've upgraded rear suspension , PCV ,exhaust and seat . The triple cylinder will rip your arms off and come out of corner like no other. Is it a 200 mph moto, no but getting to shy of 140 takes a blink of an eye. The CB just feels too heavy and old school. Great bike for straight line and not bad on corners but heavy feeling. Great bike but old school feeling . FZ and a couple bucks on suspension (Hagan Shock) bike is hard to beatt..?7
100ft lb of Torque???? 65ft lb of Torque!! Buying one next week as a second bike for commuting, my SDR doesnt deliver 100ft lb of torque and it is a Torque monster!! Nice review but figures misleading .

I had Fazer 600 before and it was very uncomfy for me. Im wondering how comfy cb1000r seat is?

Your are welcome . I have to say, I believe Honda got the fuelling spot on with this bike . Even In traffic i find it really easy to live with.

Not with me but it could easily depending on road and tyre conditions . And of course depending on testosterone levels :)
