I couldn't make it to BCon but I was the guy who redid the PLY importer. I am very very happy you got to present a good use case for it! Thank you.

Awesome! Thanks for your work. We should really try to get in to master tbh, so useful!

I used to make lines like this with mesh line and attribute transfer, will have to try this method also!

That would be amazing to create volumetric motion blur that you could pan around realtime!

Amazing presentation! Definetly inspired me and shown me some amazing new tools!
Noticed one problem at 35:22. When you subtract 0.5 from texture with vector math, you just move it all uniformly 0.5 units in same direction it has been already. To really make each axis random I would use Combine XYZ node and connect to each input same 4d noise with different W value. That way deformation will be non-uniform and will be much more random
Anyway, great work, man, I really learned a lot from you here!

True, but that requires more setup than I had time for hehe

RGB noise is random in each axis already so the way Midge did it was to centre the displacement around the original point positions to make it properly random rather than always having a bias towards 1,1,1

Terrific presentation! I just wandering if there is a concrete chance to generate ply files from normal video sequences (from a Movie, for instance), instead of using LIDAR sensors. Usually software like Metashape just have several issues to align properly

Galaxy Note Ultra's (and i guess S22 Ultra) have ToF sensors ("LIDAR"). Have not used them for point clouds though, to propose some android apps.

12:40 When I render after converting to points from mesh (geometry nodes) nothing at all appears, it looks invisible and the colour has disappeared. Any tips?

you are actually able to really optimize this setup by rendering the curves with the hair system so you will have 0 faces

How to create animations with point clouds ?
    Buy Iphone Pro
    Buy Addons
Not a really cool way to showcase Blender's abilities...
'cause I gess they're doing it in linear space or whatever... I dunno! As long as it works right?'
No... Not "as long as it works right"... We don't just want to mindlessly repeat what's been bought and clicked on like good automatons, we're here to learn stuff...
The rest of the presentation is great though, fairly in details and actually produces a result! :)
