I absolutely love this El Pionero knife that's designed by Ed Calderon and made by Tops Knives, but I really really hate the Kydex sheath it has!!! It would be awesome to see a new redesigned thin/narrow Kydex sheath made for this knife with the least amount of Kydex around the blade as possible with only two grommets towards the heel of its blade!!! I hate how its stock Kydex sheath is a super wide pancake style Kydex sheath with a tone of holes/grommets on it!!! Also, no one is going to be carrying this knife as a neck knife or lashed to a backpack. In reality, it's going to be carried inside the belt/waistband and/or in your front pocket with an Ulticlip attached to the sheath. This wide pancake Kydex sheath will definitely be annoying to carry inside your waistline/belt because it's so incredibly wide that it will definitely dig into your stomach when you try to bend over or twist. It would also be nice to see the new Kydex sheath have a thumb ramp built into it. That way, you could easily use your thumb to push off the sheath as you're holding the handle of the knife, making it easier to take the knife out of the sheath. Overall, it's an absolutely incredible knife with a really crappy Kydex sheath!!!
@Joel Benoit, The Wandering Bison I don't have it yet, but I tell the Kydex sheath poorly designed for this knife. In my personal experience, wide pancake style Kydex sheaths with a lot of grommets in it is the absolute worst to use for in the waist band carry!!!
After only seeing a pic of the knife I knew that girly pairing knife from Walmart was the inspiration. You will definitely be paying for the quality & ruggedness you'll be getting from Tops. I personally having a hard time paying 20x the cost for a tool when the $8 version works just find not to mention that shoukd you ever use it for self defense who knows how long it will be locked up as evidence. Tops makes some great knives, but would love to see them make a lighter minimalistic version of this or a birds beak pairing knife in even the $75 range.
Yep.. certain knife design dictate how you hold it. Limited grip positions. Also, certain knives are a dead give away of how one trains (or lack of) and holds their blade.
@@brkreeceI remember when that Ed Calderon interview with Shawn Ryan dropped where he told the story about the pioneer woman knife and how well it functioned on a pig carcass in one of his classes, you couldn’t find that knife in Walmart and resellers were charging crazy prices for them on eBay lmao
When he put it behind his finger 😮
Out now, just bought it! Can't wait to get it

I want to know what make and model the “Walmart” knife is, any ideas?
the pioneer woman paring knife, hence "el pionero"

Make a pioneer woman paring knife but make it cooler. I want one but the price is hefty for what it is…
Eh, it’s relative in the knife world these days for an American produced blade. Sub $200 ain’t terrible
