He’s talking about heroin, and falling into addiction, 9 years sober hope I never have that feeling again
proud of you man, my older was a "junkie" for 25 yrs & did 16 yrs in prison for doing stupid shit to get his fix....PEACE LOVE n HIPPYNESS ✌💖☮
9 years don't ever let someone tell you you don't have the right stuff cause the ones that are successful in recovery are Bad Ass
That's awesome strong man! Keep it up! How did you get free from it?
Stay strong.
@@SquirminHermanthe1eyedGerman how's you're son now?
This was their 1st album. The ENTIRE ALBUM is greatness.
Every song is an absolute killer. It’s a top 5 album of all time for me. I’ve listened to this a thousand times.. easily.
I'd love the album, but it came out my freshman year. Guys down the hall in my dorm had this CD and only this CD. Played it every day, multiple times.
I don't love anything that much.
@@jonlate4581 really? I thought use your illusion was great, different but great. And despite what people say about Chinese democracy some of the songs on there were masterful
💯
@@jonlate4581must suck to have a chronic ear disease. I'll pray for you 😅
One of the greatest debut albums of all time, IMO. Still plays in 2023.
Drummer Steven Adler was so heavily addicted that he was kicked out of G&R. Friend Sebastian Bach wrote a song about Steven called "Wasted Time" by SKIDROW. Check it out, it's super powerful.
Omg,I had no idea that was about Steven 😮
@@paristiger yea, hopefully Asia and BJ will react to it. They'll like it for sure.
Imagine getting kicked out of GnR for drug abuse. Not so fun fact, Steven had a cocaine induced stroke. He took so much cocaine that he had a stroke. Axl never liked because he was a jew. You didnt hear that frome me.
Brownstone is slang for heroine.
Lead guitarist Slash & rhythm guitarist Izzy Stradlin were sitting around one day complaining about their addictions to heroine.
They referenced it in the song lyrics, “I used to do a little, but a little wouldn’t do it, so the little got more & more”…the 2 guitarists wrote the song on the back of a grocery bag and brought it to singer Axl Rose🤘🏼
i was told it was meth,,,,just a little speed to keep them goin
@@chrisslater9081 most definitely not. It's heroin.
Mr Brownstone is the name of the drug dealer they used back then.
@@chrisslater9081 heroin is brown in color.....the real bad shit is very dark.
Me at 18 in 1993 listening to this thought it was an annoying hard ass neighbor
APPETITE FOR DESTRUCTION is one of those rare albums where ALL of it is good. Truly an iconic album.
This album along with anthrax among the living.
Yep. imo, and in others' opinions, one of the greatest rock albums ever.
Period…
When "Appetite for Destruction" came out in 1987, me and my rocker friends savored it like a rare steak with a fine California Cabernet Sauvignon. This was their debut, with hits like "Welcome to the Jungle", "Sweet Child O Mine", "Paradise City". This song here was just a regular album cut. And it was KILLER, as was the whole record. Never heard a peppy song about addiction to H before! On the whole, "Appetite" started the doom-clock for the end of Big Hair pop-rock and the beginning of back-to-basics rock and grunge, and man that end couldn't come too soon. Myself, I had already started drifting to jazz fusion, guys like Jeff Beck, Steely Dan, Pat Metheny. Might as well listen to super-talented musicians do their thing. Rock just wasn't dangerous anymore ... until Guns!
Truth! Nirvana might have been the final nail in the coffin, but Guns'N'Roses started it! My wife still listens to House of Hair every weekend, I just don't see the appeal.
You had punk, thrash and hardcore before this. Rock was still dangerous.
@@bradjbourgeois73 Y'all can hate the pretty boys like WInger, Warrant, L.A. Guns, Ratt, Dokken, Ozzy, Priest, Great White, Scorpions, Whitesnake, Cinderella, Faster Pussycat etc. etc. (I didn't say Poison or Bon Jovi) but when they were hard, it was the best music.
Winger - Madelaine, Seventeen
Ozzy - Never, Mr. Tinkertrain
Warrant - Uncle Tom's Cabin
Firehouse - Shake and Tumble
L.A. Guns - Sex Action
Faster Pussycat - Where there's a Whip
Dokken - Don't Close Your Eyes
Scorpions - Falling in Love
Cinderella - Bad Seamstress Blues/Falling Apart at the Seams.
(you may not listen but someone might).
@shack8110 I love a lot of those bands. I'm just saying what happened, not that I didn't like them, just that my wife is a little more into them than I am. I'm pretty sure Kix sang Don't Close Your Eyes. Great song.
@@bradjbourgeois73 thx for clarifying! I never miss an opportunity to unashamedly exclaim that hair metal is the zenith of human music evolution, and its been all downhill since. I think Cold Blood may be the best song of the 80s, or at least, top 5. Always KRANK that one.
BJ nailed it. Never mess with that stuff, because the first time is the best feeling you’ll ever feel in your life. You will never get that again. Not from H, not from other drugs, not from anything else in your life. Everything will be downhill. You can chase it all you want, but like the song goes. “I used to do a little, but the little wouldn’t do it, so the little got more and more.”
Plus once you do it for a time, the withdrawals are like nothing else. It should be in a separate addiction category.
"Chasing the Dragon" 💯
Guns N Roses was the end of the hair band era. They were from the same place and played the same clubs, but Guns lived the life that was in their songs. Appetite for Destruction is a great album all killer no filler. They were known as the most dangerous band on the planet and the name was well earned. A guns show could be a three hour magnum opus or you could be escaping a literal riot depending on Axl's mood that night.
What a legendary band. They're so good.
This would have to be one of the best albums of all time (Appetite for Destruction).an amazing time for metal music late 80s early 90s👍👍👍❤️❤️❤️
God take me back about 35 years...I didn't know what this meant when it came out....never danced with him myself but of a generation that did! Love it!
I know y'all did the live version of "Rocket Queen" by this band, but you should really check out the studio version. Arguably, it's the best song on the album. Total fire. 🔥
It really is
1st live band i ever seen in 92 supporting them was soundgarden and faith no more i was 14 and went with my friends no adults and there was only a barrier at the front the crowd was swaying like the sea from side to side oh n thanks mum n dad for letting me go ❤
So the support was absolutely better than the headliner
My first concert was Zebra and Lillian Axe back in 1986, lol. But I saw Guns'N'Roses with Blind Melon in 1992 or 1993, in Rapid City back when i was in the air force, great concert!
Asia & BJ! I enjoy watching you both experience the music I loved as a kid for the 1st time. These songs are all played out for me but watching you enjoy them almost revives that long forgotten joy it once gave me.
Thanks & keep doing what you do! Love it!
What an incredible track still a banger after all these years..only Guns n Roses could make a funky/catchy ass song basically about Heroin being fun at first but then after that it sucks 😂🤦🏻♂️ Great choice and reaction guy’s👏🏼 you’re the best keep up the good work..God Bless you both🙏🏼
Yes. The heroine of this song is the H. Great reaction, Asia and BJ!🤓🤠
Asia’s face after BJ explained the song is priceless!!! ❤❤❤
Asia & BJ Slash had issues with heroin & alchohol. He had to have a pace maker put in at age 35 cause he drank so much it swelled his heart. The original drummer , Steven Adler ( heard on this album ) was kicked out of Guns & Roses cause his addiction got so bad he couldn't play right. After he got clean i met him at one of his shows for his band Adlers Appetite. He had an art showing before & after the show. His artwork is good & its part of his recovery process. I can say he is one of the nicest people i've ever met. I truly believe he is so grateful just to be alive and he greeted me with an ear to ear smile & a big hug. After the show at the gallery displaying his art he was very open about his past & had some funny stories about some of his drug induced escapades. I've met Slash as well but never talked about his past transgressions. We have talked about a friend of mine who was the singer for the band Slash had after Guns & Roses called Slash's Snakepit. He was the singer of the 2nd incarnation of that band. His name is Rod Jackson and he's a great singer. Rod's drug use contributed to Slash breakung up that band as Slash had gotten clean and wanted to not be around temptation.
Saw them do this song live when they opened for Alice Cooper. Steven Adler was "dancing with Mr. Brownstone," so Fred Coury of Cinderella filled in. You could tell it was him by the afro, even half an arena away.
Love this mutha%$&@#$% song!! Thank you!!!
The Steppenwolf song The Pusher came out in 1968. Same subject. This stuff has been around a lot longer than I have and I am 67 years old. Heroin was first made by C.R Alder Wright in 1874 from morphine. Love your reactions and I so enjoy what ya'll do. Thank you so much.
They have some really good live versions of them doing this song. In one he even says, "We've got too many people in this band hanging around with Mr. Brownstone!" right before they go into the song.
that was axel directing it to the other band members.it’s when he was getting tired of gmeveryone getting wasted
Great job at recognizing the meaning. I grew up jamming this song as a kid, not knowing. Check out Rocket Queen, if you haven’t.
Such a great band with lots of talent, drugs totally tore them apart and ruined them.
And ego. Axl Rose is up there for guys impossible to tour with.
@@recoil53 . He was. I knew the 1992 tour with Metallica was going to be a disaster even before I was a fan. I'm glad that poor child got help. I saw them at work In 2017 and 2021. Amazing show. Duff is so precious and Slash is still yummy...but his Instagram is absolutely terrifying lol 😂
@@mztweety1374 I once tried to put together a fictitious rock bad that would be talented, but impossible to tour with.
Axl Rose and Eddie Van Halen were the must have charter members.
I wouldn't say that, they had all cleaned up (bar S. Addler) by the time Use Your Illusion had arrived, it was defo ego afterwards, Axl is a MASSIVE diva
@@recoil53 damn😂😂😂
Heroin chic was in style back then. This song is 🔥! Great reaction. 🖖🏻
This whole album slaps 🤘
Summer 87. Man, what a party that summer was. Damn. Thanks for your reaction you two. Always appreciated.
The most perfect album ever made. And a debut.
This song is addictive
Also in "Space Oddity" and "Ashes To Ashes" by David Bowie refers to Major Tom. Same conclusion.
"I use to do a little but a little wasn't doin so the little got more and more" GREAT lyrics
My favorite GnR song!
Thanks for sharing!👍
This song really shines when you listen to the original acoustic version.
These two literally never heard a song or watched a movie before they started their channels. Amazing.
If you want a liquor song, listen to the song Nightrain
In the scene where they came up in, the Sunset Strip in the 80's, it was easy to fall into that lifestyle, clean and sober was the exception.
We were banging to this when we were 9 years old!!! 80’s were the best!!!
One of my favorite tracks off that legendary album ! I was 8 years old when this came out and had no clue it was about heroin until I was a few years older lol !
Yeah it's about Heroin. Steven Adler was an addict the drummer for Guns and Roses.
MY FAVORITE G&R song!!!
Love you guys. 😊As someone said, it's about heroin addiction. The drummer Steven Adler was actually kicked out of the band for using drugs. He now has a permanent speech impediment. Sad. It's kinda hypocritical kicking one member out when others were using drugs and alcohol. I guess Steven just went too far. I remember GnR members Slash and Duff coming out on the mtv music awards and they were wasted. I'll never forget it. The drummer was actually on a rehab show with Dr. Drew Pinsky. I use to watch it. It's weird you mentioned Alice In Chains during the reaction. A member of Alice in chains was on the show too. Mike Starr was his name . He died of a drug overdose later after being in that rehab program. That was a great show. Check it out if you can find it. It's Celebrity Rehab. So sad so many great musicians have succumbed to drugs. 😢 It supports that old saying sex, drugs, and rock and roll.
You're out if you can't play shows or mess up shows. Or missing too many buses.
It's not the addiction itself that's the issue, it's f*cking up the show.
Steven Adler actually had to be replaced in some shows because he was that high.
Contrast to Clapton, who admits he was often so drunk or high that the roadies just propped up against a speaker and put a guitar in his hands. But he could still play.
BJ is so smart out of all the channels he always gets it even on tv shows and movies he knows what’s up!!
Way back in the first Gulf War, I remember seeing video of the Marine tanker brigade and somebody had chalked "Mr. Brownstone" on the gun barrel of one of the M1 Abrams. I agree, that was a real MF.
Never been a big Guns N’ Roses fan but….
This is by far, their best song
Almost Like it’s coming from experience
“Mister Brownstone” “Smack” “Junk” “Horse” “The white lady” HEROINE!!!
Thank God I never tried that stuff.
I believed the hype lmao
I just saw them performing cupal days ago it was amazing,!!!!!!
Its a drug reference, started out doing a little bit but had to do more and more...the 80s rock band scene was full of all kinds of substance abuse so thats the basic premise here
Yeah he's definitely talkin about heroin addiction.. black tar heroin looks like little brown stones
They were my first concert, opening for Motley Crue. They should have been the headliners.
Been on random Guns n' Roses kick lately. Forgot how good they were. Weren't around long, but pretty much killed it when they were.
Now I get up around whenever,,,,🤪🤪🤪👍
BJ is cool,,,,💥💥💥👍😎
GNR fans were wilder and more destructive than many other heavy metal fans
Heroin is brown and comes in rock form. Mr. Brownstone.
Mr. Brownstone aka HEROIN...aka Horse
It was definitely a thing of the 80's, I was hooked on crank, crystal and coke when I was 17 in 88. My parents stuck me in rehab
Song's about a pet turkey the drummer Steven Adler had and had to sacrifice it for Thanksgiving!
The stuck it in the middle and i shot it in the middle is referring to injecting the bird with marinade via a cooking syringe and it drove poor Steven out of his mind!
Mr. Brown Stone = Heroin. Think about the words in the chorus: "I used to do a little, but a little wouldn't do it, so the little got more and more. Just trying to get a little better said a little better than before".
mr. brownstone was what they called their dealer who lived in a brownstone house.
Their dealer in Chicago way back when lived in a "brownstone house"
Nice catch. It is indeed about the addiction to H. This is a great song. Pretty great album.
Slash featuring Myles Kennedy and the conspirators. Anastasia live from Sydney.. great stuff.. a slash side project for over 10 years
Motley Crue was the kings of this!
I remember hearing this song for years on the radio before the stations bleeped out "m*f'er". the Doors still get away with saying "c*t" on Roadhouse Blues and The Who saying "f*k" on Who Are You. interesting how that works. Mtv would bleep out "joint" on Tom Petty's "You Don't Know How It Feels".
Asia, lol. I did not know either. until my husband told me what Mr. Brownstone was.
This was their opening song from the illouson 1 and 2 tour I be live but that was a long time ago
Easily the best debut album in the history of rock n roll. Shoot, in the history of MUSIC, period
A lot of them have written books. Nikki Sixx wrote Heroin Diaries. It explains the life back then. It was sex and drugs and rock and roll
He's talking about that boy! You dont wannt that 😂✌️🔥
Mr Brownstone is about Heroin. Just throwing that out there in case ya'll didn't know the meaning behind the song lol
Watch the Velvet Revolver video "Fall To Pieces"... it's powerful...! (about this subject)
Velvet Revolver is Slash and Duff from GnR and Scoot Weiland on vocals, from Stone temple Pilots
Yeah, this is about addiction that really hits home. I've lost to many.
So glad that you got to this deep cut off that album. Aside from what's been said already, what drew me to this song was the unique guitar to it. I could originally tell it was about drug addiction but recently found out the name was code for heroin. Please do more deep cuts. I'd suggest out ta get me, you're crazy(has acoustic version too), anything goes, and it's so easy.. GNR was so raw about that 80s street life metal scene, it's what gave them their edge
Brown Smack in the dirty south makes people smack their yaws while black tar they just nod out. But now you got fentynil which is just cheaper more effective
I was and am a G 'n R fan, and the minute I heard this song, in the '80's, I knew exactly what it was about. Addiction. It just so happens that I am a recovering Alcoholic, but back then I really didn't have time for drugs/alcohol because I had small children. Alcoholism runs on both sides of my family, and I am a 70's teenager ( "Sex, Drugs, & Rock and Roll). Slash is a GREAT guitarist, I adore him. Enjoy, I love your reactions!!!
This is from one of the two greatest debut albums of all time by any band - the only other one in the same level is Boston.
Every song on this album is great! And here's the kicker - the most popular songs like "Jungle" "Paradise City" and "Sweet Child" aren't even the best tracks - this one "Brownstone" "It's So Easy" and "Night Train" are IMO the best tracks on here! But every track is amazing!
Actually, there are 3 debut albums that stand apart. This one and Boston, as you said, but also Van Halen's 1st.
let's not forget Rocket Queen.
@@rnrsteevlove Rocket Queen! There's a live video that is amazing!
Used 2 B my all time Favorite GNR song until my son passed away from heroin OD
I saw GnR in 1988, and these guys are the real deal. They put on a show that is not to be believed.
One of the greatest riffs ever
BJ….for real bro, you’re great at this 💯🎸🔥✊🏾
The Vietnam War was about Herion , C.I.A was running guns in , Mr Brownstone out of Laos pre war , see the Air America movie with Mel Gibson.
Mr Brownstone is a reference to Heroin.
He's talking about Heroin .
Love those guitar riffs!
Addictive, impossible to resist great song
I remember when everyone came back from Summer Vacation in '87 with this cd. It was crackin all year🎲
Love your vids!! this my fovorite song from them. Followed by "Paradise City". Keep on!
Asia got the meaning quick!!
Herion and how good it is
From '88 to '92 GnR were referred to as the new Rolling Stones. After 4 legendary albums they imploded in '95. Drugs, in fighting, egos etc. They reformed with 3 original members, Duff McCaghan bass, Axl Rose vocalist, Slash guitar. Izzy Stradlin and Steven Adler are not in the band anymore. They were the biggest band around between '88-'92.
Amazing vídeo 👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻
You guys are cool. Like this vid. You guys were a great combo reviewing this song. Two different perspectives. Fun watch here. Keep up the good work! ❤
YES !!!!!!!! Appetite for Destruction is the best album of theirs !
Me and my crew used to call the cocaine we'd get, pretzels..........you can't say " hey dude u got any COKE!!!' @ the BAR,so we say, you got any pretzels..........man I I can go 4 some pretzels
Asia that substance goes way back Jazz artist and Ray Charles got strung out way back in the 40's and 50's
This is still my favorite song off their debut album. It’s got some real funk and rhythms going on. And I remember having the cassette tape and playing it when friends were over. My mom was in the room, and when Axl sang “he’s a real motherf***er” all the girls giggled.
Slash once OD'd on heroin and cocaine, died for 8 minutes before being revived then played the show the next night!
sounds like the same story of Nikki Sixx and Motley Crue. Did the same thing happen to both bands????
@@Frostrazor Yeah, similar stories. Nikki woke up in the hospital, walked out and went home to shoot up again. Not sure if he played the next night though.
Also, I believe Slash was actually in the room when Nikki OD'd...
A singer in Australia named James Reyne formerly of Australian Crawl did a song on heroin addiction, also called "Hammerhead." great lyrics in that song also not to mention a great song also! As is this by GNR who i reckon would be my third greatest act of all time!
Buckle up for this one…. 🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥
Heroin had a few friends who did heroin one or 2 of them died from that. I've been told it's a tough addiction to stop
Back in the day, Slash was a heavy heroin user (and alcoholic)... "Mr. Brownstone" was his anguish about being unable to quit his addiction...
It nearly took Slash's life on tour around 1992/ '93... he was found in a hotel and their tour manager found him dead; he had no pulse from an OD. Paramedics arrived and were able to resuscitate Slash... But he still struggled w/ the drug habit for the next few decades...
