@@kevinpierce3458 My wife and I are looking forward to a return trip to the U.K. My love for the U.K. started in July, 1969. I was an 18 year old U.S. Marine. I was fresh out of High School living in a place that some people would call hell. I was thousands of miles from my home in Oklahoma. I was scared and homesick. One of the things that has been critical to the mental health and spirit of the fighting man in all wars but especially this one was getting mail from home. When were in the field the mail was something we all looked forward to. My girlfriend back in the states had all of a sudden quit writing me letters. At first I didn’t think too much about it given that long delays of our mail catching up to us was not unusual. One morning I ran into a friend who had just came back from the States after being on leave. We were the same hometown and had attended school together. He came over to where I was sitting cleaning my rifle and said “man I’m sorry about your girlfriend dumping you”. I told him that was news to me and that I hadn’t heard from her for a while. He didn’t know I had no idea she had dumped me. Well, needless to say I was crushed. She finally sent me a “Dear John” letter telling me she couldn’t marry someone who was serving in that illegal war. To say that I was depressed was an understatement! However, in my line of work being depressed and distracted could kill you. About three week later during mail call I was told that the First Sergeant was looking for me and that I had mail. My First Sergeant came up to me and handed me a package. Actually it was a shoebox that had been wrapped in brown paper and it was addressed to me. The return address just said LONDON, ENGLAND. I was sure it was a mistake because I didn’t know anyone in England but there it was addressed to me. I opened the package and was stunned at the content. In that box there were letters, note cards and crayon drawings. They were from school children in the U.K. They told me they were praying for me and they hoped I could go home soon. There were crayon drawings of their dogs, home and towns where they lived . One little boy in crayon wrote “try to stay alive and don’t get dead because that would hurt”🤣I never found out why they did this extreme act of kindness and love to me. I don’t know how they got my name. Those children did more than raise my spirit. I am convinced that they actually saved my life. Ever since that day in July, 1968 I have been a total fan of the people in the U.K. Even today when I think back on that event it brings a tear to my eye. What kinds of people show those acts of kindness and love to a complete stranger? That’s easy for me to answer: it’s THE BRITISH PEOPLE! Please forgive me for being so long winded in the telling of this story. I just wanted you to understand why I have a tremendous love ❤️for the British people. PEACE & BLESSINGS , MIKE
@@michaelmelton9691 Blimey. That is strange how they got your name as uk didnt get involved in vietnam. I was 15 in 1969 and didnt connect to vietnam at all at the time. Guess it may have been a teacher at a london school with connections to the states? Then possibly your first sergeant saw you were down at the time and gave you the box? Anyways its great that you felt appreciation from us at that time. My home city of plymouth has a memorial to the us military on the banks of the river tamar where the soldiers boarded their landing craft on their way to normandy during WW2. I can remember my late mum who was a young girl ar the time calling them "those nice americans" as they used to give her candy on her way to school past their camp. One of her elder relations married a gi and went back with him to the states after the war. Salt lake city area if i remember correctly. The bands are remarkable. The Queen would be proud of them in their honour to her as her reign and commitment to her country has ended. She will be missed by everyone around the world. (USA)

Having seen & heard all 98 marching bands in the world (per Wikipedia), you can say this with experience & authority. But your friends, relatives, neighbors & co-workers report you tend towards exaggeration. The NSA & GCHQ have not confirmed this information as yet since they work on the clock only & seem to feel misinterpreting Russia's next moves in Ukraine are a higher priority. Therefore this investigation remains open.

@@michaelmelton9691 you’ve had a much varied life. I’m glad you got to visit my capital and fortunate enough to witness the wonderful Royal Marines band. Come visit again sometime, we’d love to have you.
We have a lot to thank america for here in the UK and europe so im glad those kids cheered you up at that time. Anyways all the best for the future.
Music and sights to stir the soul from the very best of the best. Outstanding display. Thank you for posting and bringing many memories back for me...
No one does pomp and circumstance as well as the British. This was magnificent.
The bands are remarkable. The Queen would be proud of them in their honour to her as her reign and commitment to her country has ended. She will be missed by everyone around the world. (USA)
She always referred to them as her boys and they respected her. She will be very sorely missed. A giant has fallen in Israel. I would compare her to Queen Victoria. She took after her late father’s steady rule.
Yes sure.
Absolutely Brilliant display, Marching, Drumming, Timing and Musicians who know how do it all in Perfect Harmony :)

These guys rock!! I’m hard pressed to find any military band in 🇺🇸🇺🇸 that marches and sounds this good! And no ‘head-Bob’:everyone in complete unison! Rock on and God bless👏👏👏👏
Absolutely stunning from start to finish. Probably the best massed military band in the world
As others have said these are the best. Just love it when the drummers get going on their own. How do they do it.
Brilliant photography and sound cannot but be moved by the most phenomenal military band in the world.
Awesome reply!! So True. Made the Skin on my Back Tingle like Electric the day i passed out. When the Band Stop - THEY STOP!!! and the silence is litterally deafening. Your ears are Ringing as the DL starts the Drill Parade. I couldn't believe all of this was for us!! Amazing, Proud Memories of the Greatest Fighting Commando Force in the World. Thanks for your input. Captured Brilliantly.
That movement at 22:43 that was done to spread the length of the road, then back into formation, was incredible to watch. All done to the beat of the drum, and without missing a single beat. What a band, and what an armed force they are!
Ex Mob. The accuracy in this video is superhuman. I've never seen anything like it, even on passing out day. The Royal Marines Band are absolutely brilliant.
Used to live not far from Deal in Kent where the Royal Marines School of Music was based in the 1950s before moving to Portsmouth, so have been a fan for 50+ years.

Fantastic it's only the British Armed Forces Bands and our traditions that keeps me sane in our ever changing Country 👍👍
Amazing. I think if I ever had the opportunity to see them in person I would just cry from the excitement.
That drum line is amazing!
Love love it from New Zealand, my grandfather was a bandsman, awesome
Hell of a march. Go on folks. My first love was a drum major and I was a tipper, at the time. Amongst the finest musicians in history.
Makes me proud to be born in England . Thank you for your allegiance and service . To our late Monarch Queen Elizabeth the 2nd. God Save Our King .

As a former member of a College band, the Tennessee State University aristocrat of bands, I am very impressed. The precision and sound was tremendous. The drum cadence was excellent. Well done
Just Excellent, loved the marching, loved the music and especially loved the "DRUMS"!!!!!
PRAISE THE LORD, BEAUTIFUL!!!!
Agree, drumming is excellent
Perfection! The worlds best marching band by far
Stunning, Great and precision Outstanding. I’m soon to be 81 and use to play drums in our high school band and so enjoy such Beauty. Salute to each one taking part as the time involved in practicing is beyond any of our comprehension.👍💞👍
Unfortunately none of them knew they’d be back 2 months later saying farewell to the commander in chief 😢😢😢
These men and women are so talented. I am in awe of them. 🇺🇸❤️🇬🇧
What splendour all quite brilliant! I thank each marine here for keeping these wonderful traditions alive!
As an ex matelot I am never more amazed and proud as when I see and hear the bands of His Majesties Royal Marines, they are undoubtedly the best military musicians in the world.
I have a huge respect for these lads because in July the temperature reached almost 40c and they STILL marched and played their instruments You can only imagine the sweat and probably tears that into making the crowd's happy, and probably their boss also!
God bless them all!!
Don't forget those uniforms that they're wearing BLACK; and that isn't a cool colour in the heat 💦😓😓
Oh yeah and I loved the fact that they just happened to stop at the traffic lights 😂😂 couldn't have timed it better!
Im sad to see the Queen pass but warms my heart to see her being farewelled in such grandeur. I feel blessed to see the crowning of a new King of England. At my age I may never see the passing of the crown again. Ishallah.

Without doubt the world greatest military band. The band of her majesty's Royal Marines, Pomp and Ceremony unrivalled in the world.. priceless as a former member of the Senior Service for 22 years, a very special affection for them especially when Hearts of Oak is played, Steady boys Steady
Great hearing the Marines , but to say the worlds greatest military band it would be hard to agree with you on that ,there is great military bands all over the world ,,being from Canada I have always had a a great admiration for this band and it’s traditions ,
@@squamishfish yes their are but being retired Royal Navy I maybe a little biased... comes under we will to agree to disagree although would put Canadian military bands in front of your " Hollywood style" neighbours " Tradition" everything we do is based on this except in the Royal Air Force for them its more habit not tradition unlike the Senior service and the Army.
Thank you for your service , I was in the Canadian navy 12 years , I always held my head up high when I heard both of the The two Canadian navy bands playing heart of Oak , , but I never heard of any band competitions between world military bands to determine who is the best , To m3 they are all great
@@squamishfish many happy memories of drinking and good times with you lads when in the NATO squadron doing SNFL during my 22 years and runs ashore in Halifax, Nova Scotia, the moose is loose on a Sunday morning. Bravo & well done 👏. The military bands and soldiers in the UK are well known for their stirring and precise marching. There must be considerable practice and drill to move as large group so precisely. Can't help being deeply impressed.
When marching with bands in the Comonwealth forces its simple. when the drum hits, your left foot should be hitting the ground. Other than that, marching is basically just exagerated walk at 120 paces a minute
@@mihai2526 Tell that to the Navy. 😂😂😂
@@BBob1 you're a bad man. The RN regularly show up the army with their marching skills, as for the budgie botherers we'll not go there.
@@mihai2526, true-ish. When marching in a long column, with the drum beat taking time to reach the troops further away, plus the chores off the buildings, other ways have to be found; like sight.
I THINK THE MARINES SHOULD PUT SUSSEX TO SLEEP EVERY NIGHT
Love watching these performances. The music and the marching is always TOP NOTCH!
These are not the greatest bandsmen in the world, they are the greatest soldiers in the world who are incredible instrumentalists , every one is a fighting man first and bandsman second, let’s never forget the sacrifices these and their predecessors have made. Keep safe and play on.
And women!
That was amazing!!! Thank you from the 🇺🇸

Thank you.

And World that's how it's done, best of the best. Nothing Like marching behind a bootneck band, first time was as Jnr Sailor at HMS Ganges 1961, still get a lump in my throat and a bit misty eyed when I see and hear them.
Good point Big Dog, something a lot of people don't realise, the 'Royal' Marines and all our other Military have been around for hundreds of years. Hats off to the Bandsmen and women who took part in Beating Retreat. We were there on the wednesday, and were hot, just sitting watching. We weren't marching, playing and wearing those standout uniforms in temperatures still in the 20°'s even though it was in the evening. Brilliant Band, stirring music, and what a backdrop. Made us so proud to be British.
