Never should have released it to the public. Imagine if someone bought it and had to use it in their home or in public and it overpenetrated from lack of expansion.
Only if you got a UA-cam channel with lots of subscribers will they send you the product you paid for. If your just slobs like us that bought a few boxes of the old crap, we are S.O.L.
The fact that Sierra reached out to you and sent you ammo for testing is testament to how much your channel has grown. Also, you should take pride in knowing you helped initiate an improvement to a product. I don't know how much effort was required on their part to make this change, but it seems like no small feat. Kudos to Sierra for going to such lengths to satisfy its customers.
Man that ammunition engineer at Sierra Outdoors is a go-getter. That ammo-hunt video wasn't but a few days ago. This test and video right here, coupled with the actions of the company themselves, have convinced me to give them another try. Looks like the bigger hole achieved its goal.
@@ToolsandTargets I've loaded Sierra bullets in rifle loads for quite some time. Consistent weight, length and diameter make them very accurate. The Gameking is my favorite in .243 Winchester for hunting, ( just can't find it), 308 Winchester, 175 SMK for target, 150 or 165 grain Soft point hunting, 135 tipped Gameking out to around 400 yard in my 6.5 creed past that 140 grain or 147 in another brand in 6.5. Pistol bullets I load are usually for practice and FMJ. After this test I will be working up a load for this bullet in .45 to try if available. Sierra has always impressed me with their rifle projectiles. Lots of manufacturers have up to 5 grain difference and in 6.5 just a month or 2 ago, 10 thousandths difference between lot numbers in length. Now I understand lots will say that is nothing. If shooting for accuracy 10 thousandth in length, even the diameter was off instead of .264 were .259. Weight was off by quite a bit also. I contacted Hornady and they stated that was within their standards and would never be noticed?! No offer to reimburse or send another lot number. Like the guy in that department said, that lot passed on our inspection within our standards. Really?! Anyone loading and shooting for any kind of accuracy should know that is bull. Thanks Tools sorry so long but I really wanted Sierra and you to know how Hornady treated a customer with a failure. Thanks for your time brother and effort. Keep'em coming!
@@cal30m1 Myself, just a consumer and I've been shooting and loading a while. For my 308 bang for the buck is hard to beat on 175gr SMK. It shoots very well out to 1200 yards which counts good in my book. Gameking is an excellent hunting round which I use in 243 . It shoots itty bitty groups also. What can I say, 6.5 creed shoots the 130 Gamechanger in itty bitty holes. I have other bullets I use but Sierra is on for weight and length pretty much everytime and for distance that counts. Target shooting long range especially.

Boy, it sure is nice knowing that a company listens to its customers and makes changes. Sierra definitely made a BIG improvement to these rounds. Hats off for sierra and its willingness to correct the poor performance of the rounds you tested a few months ago, actions like this talks really good about any company. Good video as always sir!
We specifically did not buy Sierra because of the past tests. Due to their concern and improvement they are at the top of the list to buy. Nice job Sir.

Did they tell you if they were recalling the poorly performing ammo - or if they were hoping to phase it out? Again, thanks Tools for all you do to keep us educated!! They are definitely phasing it out with the new stuff. The letter said it could be towards the end of the year before some people would see the new stuff though. I'm gonna email em and see if there is a way to tell from the box markings which rounds they are.
Very nice test and results Tools. Sierra did listen and made the changes they needed to. Kudos to Sierra for stepping up and fixing the problem. This test sure proves you don't need Mach 10 speed to get the job done. Nice expansion with excellent penetration. Be vigilant, be safe
I bought this stuff in both 40 and 45. Tested both in 3", 4", and 5" barrels. Once completed, I decided to put the ammo in my carry firearms. The most impressive was the 45 ACP in the short barrel 3". The results were amazing.
Yeah me too... I get jacket separation through 4 layers of denim. But it completely penetrated 4 layers, two water jugs , and lodged in the 2nd layer of my fleece backstop. Even with the jacket separation, that's good penetration for a projectile that expanded to over 3/4 of an inch... This is with a full size m&p. So I bet with the lower velocity of a short barrel, they would be perfect. Probably would hold their jacket, and penetrate even deeper. Although I suspect the expansion wouldn't be as extreme with the short barrel
@@thealarmclock9307 Really good. I compared them to Underwood, & Speer a gold Dot. I was pleasantly shocked, to the point of making these my preferred carry rounds.

Thanks for the update. Sierra's 9mm 124gr HP is priced at $24.99 for 20 rounds out here in CA, but it is often on sale at Turner's for $12.49. Even at that price point I didn't buy these because of the version 1.0 Gel Test done by Tools&Target. Sierra really should change their packaging to identify which rounds are the old version vs the new one. If I can't diffentiate between the two, this will be on the top of the list of brands to stay away from.
Yeah, a packaging change would have been nice. I suspect that's why they're on sale pretty much everywhere right now and have a rebate available. Trying to clear out all the older stock.
I completely agree. I'm in Cali looking at them right now online for $15. I can't tell the difference so I will pass until I am confident they sold all of their 1.0s
I'm waiting a few months for the old stuff to be bought up by people who don't watch test videos. Then, in a few months, I'm hoping you buy some from a store and see if the store bought stuff is good. I wish they modified the boxes to indicate that it was recent production.
Brian, Sierra knew *exactly* what they were doing when they reached out to you and sent you the new ammo. You may be a good ol' boy and as blunt as a spoon, but you're honest, you know what you're doing, and your testing is so professional and so thorough that a good product will get a fair shake. You do us all a great service, consumers and manufacturers alike. It would be a smart move by any manufacturer to send you stuff for product testing. I had watched the previous videos you've done on the Sierra ammo. After seeing the first one, I basically gave the Sierra 9mm I saw on the shelves in my local Academy a pass. Then when I saw your ammo hunt update on the Sierra, I thought, "Okay, keep an eye out for the next Sierra test." Now I'll be very open to picking up any deals on Sierra 9mm in the future. Thanks, man!
Well, first off, I'm glad that you had an opportunity to test the new and improved 9mm stuff. Pretty good for a little bullet. 'Course I only use 45ACP since I'm an old timer, and set in my ways.😁
Very nice to see a manufacturer making positive changes to their ammo. Now if we can just get 10mm up to where it needs to be from just about every manufacturer.
The letter I got said they would be cycling onto the shelves but could be towards the end of the year before you start seeing them. I'm gonna try to email em this coming week and see if there is any way to tell the difference without looking at the rounds.
Kudos to the Sierra employees to step up their game. Huge difference than the first time, very nice. Great testing there bud. Wonder when the new loads will hit the shelves? Looks like you got plenty of plinking ammo to have fun with lol 😆. I want to try the new ones in 9mm on some plastic bottles and cans to see what they do. Well done again my friend. ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️
Big incentive to buy their ammo because of the improvements & because their customer service listened unlike Sigs dept. Usually the prices aren't bad at all. Very close but for me I would pick the 124gr because it's actually faster. Very good filming sir. Appreciate you. 🇺🇸 👍 👍
@@ToolsandTargets Academy has it. What is difference between the Outdoor & the Sport besides $1 per box? Or is it the same? Took some checking because they don't have enough info. The Sport is a 2 piece elastic. & brass base casing - but reloadable ? - & the Outdoor is a brass casing. Interesting.
@@billdye3530 I remember trying to get info on this when I first tested these, and I'm pretty sure I came to the conclusion that they use the same bullets.
I always thought the sports master ammo was better than the outdoor master ammo based purely on my subjective opinion on how the projectiles looked. Maybe if you can get some of that we can compare the two. Glad to hear that Sierra made it right in the end.
I could be mistaken because it's a little confusing looking at the lineup, but I think the Outdoor Master and Sports Master use the same bullet. I remember doing some checking on it when I first tested these.
A few years ago, I read a report that stated that companies who rectified errors with honesty and good grace, were better regarded, than companies who had made no errors! I reckon it’s the same with people too.
It's great to hear that they actually listen to their customers and now make a better product. If you hadn't posted your results I would still have the original bullets in my EDC that obviously don't perform. I'll try out the 2nd gen rounds since they fixed the problem.
Glad to see these ammo manufacturers are watching your videos , I bought the Sierra 185 grain 45 ACP ammo based on a Tools&Targets video, happy sierra fixed the 9mm ammo which I will now buy after watching this video, thank you for making these videos,
Just seeing this video, but as a Missouri resident I will say I love using an in-state ammo supplier. Sierra and Starline brass are both down the street from each other and I use both of them. Actually have a contact with Sierra and have gotten quite a few "factory seconds" that I could not tell apart from perfect off the shelf bullets. Best of all they were free. Love the test and keep up the good work.

This is the first I've known Sierra made ammo. Kudos to Sierra for getting after it. The 115g extreme spread was questionable but they performed well, I'm just a stickler for consistent speeds and feel that's all bullet tension. Good Stuff T&T Thanks!

I greatly appreciate and enjoyed the video.papa wishing you well
I found this stuff for I belive just $8 a box when it first came out. So I thought worst case use it for cycle testing. It did cycle in everythig I have 100% no problem. It would even cycle a very tight double stack 1911. I got great results from a 5 inch 1911. It would expand and go deep. A little too deep. I figured it was for more like something for bigger tougher critters like bear, moose, or something like that. I still keep a mag of it in the truck and use it when we go camping. It is refreshing to see a company who responds to user feedback like this. (Take a hint Sig) I like your what you see is what you get way of doing things. Ty for the data i am looking at getting some of these now on sale but wanted to make sure that they were gtg. Watched both videos on these and they seem real good now that they tweaked the design a little.
Sierra is one of the best Bullet makers imo. It’s no surprise to me they got it figured out. After trying Hornady, Bergers, Nosler, as well as Sierra I have ended up with my best loads in 308, 6.5 CM, 6cm, and 223 all being with Sierra projectiles. 308= 175 SMK 6.5 CM = 142 SMK 6cm = 107 smk 223= 69 smk as well as 52 smk. Hornady and Berger has some nice shooting bullets as well, but overall Sierra does it better more often for me.
Agree with the comments related to the consideration of feedback; great to see. Stopped at Bass Pro today and unfortunately they still have the older stuff on shelves…..
I picked some up in .45acp and the hollow point is deep. I like that they worked to correct the problem and made a real effort to get more to you to test. I plan to pick up a couple more boxes. Thank you and keep doing the quality testing.

Thank you sir. Really appreciate that. Enjoy your Sunday!😎👊
Well, first off, I'm glad that you had an opportunity to test the new and improved 9mm stuff. Pretty good for a little bullet.
'Course I only use 45ACP since I'm an old timer, and set in my ways.😁
💥😎💥
Very nice to see a manufacturer making positive changes to their ammo. Now if we can just get 10mm up to where it needs to be from just about every manufacturer.
Sierra really stepped it up
Yes indeed.
Nice to see a company that responds to customer feedback
Definitely
Question is will these round be in the store or they sent you rounds they specifically “modified”.
Thank you sir. Sounds like it may be towards the end of the year before it cycles onto some shelves. I'm gonan try to get some more info.😎👍
@@ToolsandTargets That’s great. Thank my friend!
Good to see a company trying to get stuff better Congrats to Sierra
Big incentive to buy their ammo because of the improvements & because their customer service listened unlike Sigs dept. Usually the prices aren't bad at all. Very close but for me I would pick the 124gr because it's actually faster. Very good filming sir. Appreciate you. 🇺🇸 👍 👍
Thank you sir. I'll definitely be looking for some more of their stuff to try out.😎👍
@@ToolsandTargets Academy has it.
Good on Sierra for stepping up their product. Much respect.
Agreed.😎👍
Great results, to bad sig could not take the time to treat you right. Sierra just went to the top of my list to buy.
Absolutely
Very impressed with the modifications to the bullet’s
Sounds about right.👍
Looks REALLY good. Seems suspect. Love the videos man.
Thank you sir.😎👍
It's great to hear that they actually listen to their customers and now make a better product. If you hadn't posted your results I would still have the original bullets in my EDC that obviously don't perform. I'll try out the 2nd gen rounds since they fixed the problem.
😎👍
Impressive. I'm surprised the 124's penetrated so well too.
Yeah, I like these 124's.
Glad to see these ammo manufacturers are watching your videos , I bought the Sierra 185 grain 45 ACP ammo based on a Tools&Targets video, happy sierra fixed the 9mm ammo which I will now buy after watching this video, thank you for making these videos,
Appreciate the support, brother!
Did they send you influencer rounds? LoL...
🤣
😆😆😆
Night and day difference. Gotta give Sierra credit for listening. Great job Tools! 🇺🇸
Absolutely! Thank you sir.
Problem is they won't pull old loads off shelf and without a lot number you're screwed good on ya nice test
I'm gonna email em Monday and see if there is a way to tell from the box markings. I'll pin a comment here if so.😎👍
I wish Tools pinned this with a lot # in his reply…
@@StevenL00 I'm gonna see what I can find out Monday and post some info.😎👍
@@ToolsandTargets Hi Tools! Any chance you were able to follow up with this?
Tools, another excellent educational video. Global Ordnance has Sierra on sale. Your ‘work’ helps us all!
Cool to see this matter resolved!!
Definitely😎👍
Just seeing this video, but as a Missouri resident I will say I love using an in-state ammo supplier. Sierra and Starline brass are both down the street from each other and I use both of them. Actually have a contact with Sierra and have gotten quite a few "factory seconds" that I could not tell apart from perfect off the shelf bullets. Best of all they were free. Love the test and keep up the good work.
Appreciate you checking it out!😎👍
Great second chance video! Kudos to Sierra for listening and fixing the problem. Awesome!
😎👍
now that's more like it !!! i gotta give it to sierra they did a great job upgrading these bullets..i've been seeing them here and there and i was passing them by cause of the tests you shown..i'm going to be rethinking on that one..once again..Kotos to sierra for stepping up and contacting you and then taking care for the problem....Tools..thanks for a very nice jelly test and follow up..i like these a whole lot better than the first ones for sure...
Thank you sir. Very impressed with their response to this.
Checked mine. Thank goodness I have the newer stuff. Great videos!
This is the first I've known Sierra made ammo. Kudos to Sierra for getting after it. The 115g extreme spread was questionable but they performed well, I'm just a stickler for consistent speeds and feel that's all bullet tension. Good Stuff T&T Thanks!
Thank you sir.😎👍
Great video. I snagged several of these a few months ago for super cheap. I'll probably range dump them and maybe try them again soon.
😎👍
Out of the outhouse an into the range, carry rotation ! Nice they contacted you And fixed issue , impressive !
Good thing they sent you a generous amount, lol
I can't believe that one that went into the same hole. Even the wound cavity was identical.😂
Sir Tools, I think you need to repeat this with the heavy clothing barrier. I love that you added the heavy clothing barrier many months ago.
Great review ! will be picking up some Sierra for sure !
😎👍
That's exactly how customer service would go in a perfect world thanks for having a hand in improving the ammo market as a whole man.
Agreed. Appreciate ya!
I'd like to see a little less depth, but I'm glad they took a look at the ammo and fixed it. Now to see it tested with clothing.
😎👍
Awesome job Sierra! Glad they listened and made improvements. Thanks for the testing Tools!
Thank you sir.😎👍
Kudos to Sierra cartridges for "listening" to their consumer base ie you Mr Tools &Targets. Great demonstration as always...
Thank you sir.😎👊
Wow, I’m glad I watched the Sierra reviews in the right order. Much better this time. 👌
😎👍
Looks like they got it right on this new batch. Props to them for fixing it. Thanks for the test.
😎👍
Nice follow-up 👍 😎
😎👍
that's the expatiations that I got for several years ago.and never any problems with any Sierra pistol/revolver calibers I loaded and the jacketed holo cavity bullets are devistating on deer vitals,it thank a little edge over my xtp bullets even though the hollow cavity fragments more with equal damage.but since this mess the last 31/2-4 years finding serria iny area is rare, internet forget it.whait little I did find was jacked up so high I refused to pay it when my stock of xtp bullets are equal to. I greatly appreciate and enjoyed the video.papa wishing you well
Thank you sir. I need to do some looking around and see what else I can find from em.
Keep up the good work and thanks for the great content as always.
Appreciate that brother. I'm very impressed by their response to this.
Wow! You got some pull now!!’n😎
Pullin bullets out of jelly blocks is about all the pull I got.😆😆😆
Good luck from .223 Sierra 55gr.BlitzKing bullets also. Awesome pumpkin exploders.
Nice. I think I have some Sierra .223 bullets to load. Not sure what type.
Ty for the data i am looking at getting some of these now on sale but wanted to make sure that they were gtg. Watched both videos on these and they seem real good now that they tweaked the design a little.
I'm impressed now. When I go back in the store, I'll check and make sure that I'm picking up the new stuff. Thanks, have a good one!
😎👍
Sierra is one of the best Bullet makers imo. It’s no surprise to me they got it figured out. After trying Hornady, Bergers, Nosler, as well as Sierra I have ended up with my best loads in 308, 6.5 CM, 6cm, and 223 all being with Sierra projectiles.
308= 175 SMK
6.5 CM = 142 SMK
6cm = 107 smk
223= 69 smk as well as 52 smk.
Hornady and Berger has some nice shooting bullets as well, but overall Sierra does it better more often for me.
I'm definitely gonan have to check out more of their stuff now.
great job on that company's part for responding so quickly
😎👍
That's awesome they listened and made some awesome improvements. I already bought some and will be buying more
Definitely good on em to improve their stuff.
great to see they made such a good improvement and actually invited yo to do some unbiased real world testing!
I was very impressed with how they handled this.
That is awesome they did that, I think I'll pick up a few boxes myself got to support the company's that respect their customers
Agreed. I'm gonna look for some of their rifle stuff to test out.😎👍
Agree with the comments related to the consideration of feedback; great to see. Stopped at Bass Pro today and unfortunately they still have the older stuff on shelves…..
Probably lookin at towards the end of the year before the new stuff cycles onto the shelves.😆
Good glad they made the changes they look like they can be good rounds
Good to see a company try to make their stuff better.😎👍
I picked some up in .45acp and the hollow point is deep. I like that they worked to correct the problem and made a real effort to get more to you to test. I plan to pick up a couple more boxes. Thank you and keep doing the quality testing.
Their .45acp is good stuff.😎👍
What a cool video. It is nice to see that you got a positive result after interacting with SIERRA. It is very comforting as a consumer to know that a company cares about the quality & performance of their product in that way. Like I stated on the previous video, I will definitely pick up some of their product to use in the near future.
Agreed.😎👍
Been on the fence about this ammo for a bit, but after this review I will definitely be buying some. Thank you sir for another great and informative video
Appreciate you!
Nice, gonna get me a couple more boxes, another great test for the books 😊.
Wholly cow, another manufacturer contacting you. Love it!
I was definitely surprised by this one.
Sierra has definitely upped their game. Thanks for the video and have a great weekend.
Thank you sir. You too!
Thank you! I've purchased a bunch of these since they have been priced aggressively. Going to be testing these on my defensive weapons. If they run, will be doing more stock piling.
😎👍
Good job, Sierra...keep up the good work
Definite Improvement over the first, You could straighten one end of a paper clip and insert it into the hollow point cavity and then measure that with the calipers, I'm going to stick with the HSTs, Thanks for the test, I'm rockin the 🟢badge now my friend! 👍 🇺🇸
Good idea. Appreciate it bigtime, brother!😎👊
@@ToolsandTargets 👍
Good job on the video and kudos to Sierra!
Thank you sir.
what is the best ammo between 124 grains or 115 ? For home defense with Sierra .
Really just personal preference and depends on the gun you're using in some cases. Safe bet would be a 115 for short barrels around 3 to 3.5" and 124 for longer.😎👍
