That's the steak pie recipe my old mum used to make every Hogmanay for the midnight meal. She used to serve it with creamy mash potatoes and peas. The table would be filled with chease, crackers, pickles, all sorts of cake and shortbread. First footers were treated royally. I agree with you about the white pepper. I miss my mum, especially at this time of year.
This brought me almost to tears! I had to move south for personal reason which was supposed to be two years and Im still here five years later. Your video and pie recipe took me right back to Troon with Aran across the bay. I spent hours upon hours waking the Ayrshire coastline from Troon with my springer spaniel (Who had to be rescued from the sea once as he was in the water heading towards Aran in the vain hope if catching the seagull he had spotted. We used to go down to the sea very day, particularly when the ferry was coming in and he loved diving into the wake.) Such wonderful memories. It was inTroon when my friend Fran introduced me to the pie which was made at a local bakery, as good as any homemade pie. I loved it. I miss Troon and Scotland so much and can't wait to come back. Wishing you, your family, friends and all those in Scotland the very best for a healthy and happy 2022
I live in the US and my friend got me hooked on your TV show Still Game. I have watched all the seasons and have become obsessed with your country's culture. Then I found your channel and am delighted. Do you also call New Year's Eve Hogmany? Well, Happy New Year and many blessings to you and yours.
i need to watch these earlier in the day.... instead of peanut butter on toast for supper i want to make this! thankyou, and wishing you a very healthy and happy new 2022
My son and I LOVE a nice steak pie. We cant get enough of that goohey layer of pastry lol. When i heat the steak pie, i ALWAYS lift the lid off before cooking, then rest it back on top, so it is nice and loose after being cooked.
Great Steak Pie Cheryl, thats something you don't get at the butchers, oxo gravy. Looks well lush, I always make my own steak pie, purely because of the gravy lol. Lang may yer lum reek Cheryl xxx
Happy New Year!! I’m making steak and kidney pie here in the states for New Years Day. I hear that it’s an English thing but that’s what my Scottish Mum always made for New Years. I’m carrying on the tradition. Thoroughly enjoy all your recipes Cheryl because so many Scottish recipes never got passed down.
Thanks so much for this. Originally from Falkirk but now live in the USA and I was looking for a steak pie recipe for New Year's day. I used one of your other steak pie recipes and it was utterly awesome. Thanks again and keep up the brilliant tastes of home
What part of the USA do you live in? If your ever in Savannah, Georgia, there is a great place on River street, called Molly McPherson's. They serve fish and chips, steak and ale pies, bangers and mash, sausage rolls, and a great selection of beers and Scotch! All very delicious, if you are ever around there!
Hi, your recipe/site came up as a recommended "to watch", I'm so glad it did :-) your pie looks delicious. The ending of your video made me subscribe to your channel, the message you shared and the stunning countryside makes me want to watch more stuff. Happy New Year.
I made this last week and we had it on New Years Day. It was absolutely delicious. I did use the sausage as I had just purchased some from the Scottish butcher. Your recipe is better than the steak pie that I had also purchased from the Scottish butcher. Also, your slicing sausage is on the money. I make it myself now instead of getting it from the butcher. I did a side by side taste test with the slicing sausage, your recipe and the Lourne sausage from the butcher, they are identical. It's also more economical since I'm in Florida and I have to send for Scottish foods online and have them sent, which is not something you can do weekly. Thank you very much. Yum yum.
Happy New Year's! I look forward to each of your videos, your voice puts a smile in my heart! The pie looks delicious and I can almost smell it. Much love from Oklahoma❤🥰❤
Cheyl looks delicious. Keep the ideas coming. Wish9ng you and your family HNY. We are having wonderful long awaited rains, love this time in Zimbabwe, Norma 💗
Canny whack it 😋 good old steak pie. Love all your recipes Cheryl. Happy New year to you and the family. All the best at the bells. 🥂🎉🎊🥃🍷 'Lang may yer lum reek' as we say. 🍾🏴
Was just making stew today, thanks for the flour tip and a reminder for me to pop it in the slow cooker instead! Will just add potatoes and veggies instead.
The recipe looks amazing and I will be making it this week. But "wee shoogle" is the main take away for me on this video. Its the perfect term for giving something a shake. I love it 😍
Amazing video. Thanks for adding. As a Scot living in Wales I really miss proper Butchers steak pies. Don’t get them down here. My parents bring them down when they visit. I’m going to give this a bash today. My mouth was watering watching this. Have a great 2022.
That looks so delicious!!! I've made your other steak pie recipe with the wine and it was so tender and everyone loved it!!! Going to try this one next!!
Happy new year to you. I was up in Scotland at the weekend so bought a Malcolm Allan’s pie for Saturday. Wife doesn’t like pies ( yeah, I know!) so I have it all to myself.😍😍🏴
