  • From www.swimmingpo... - Learn how the indicator arms on your filter pressure gauge work and what they indicate. The green indicator arm is set to the clean operational pressure of your swimming pool filter. When the filter pressure reaches the red indicator arm, it is time to clean your filter elements. If you have a sand filter, it is time to backwash.

I recently moved into a new house and they had an old Hayward one speed pump and a Hayward 65 DE filter. Thanks to your page I have a full grasp on how these system. My pool is 16 x 32 average depth 5 ft so I purchased a 2hp black and decker VS pump along with a 200 Hayward cartridge filter. The pool is being surfaced and I’m waiting to install the new pool devices. I’m so ready to try out everything I learned from your page as a matter of fact one of my friends is building a pool at the movement and I started asking them about the gallons in the pool what type of filter they are goi g with and they were totally confused but I’m over here looking like and expert lol. I live in the Bahamas and it’s mostly 85 degrees year around so our pools get heavy use. Im very grateful for the cost analysis on run the VS sped pumps as I’m trying to land somewhere around a dollar a day. Thank you once again for your content

Of course, " it is the system that helps figuring out when to clean the filter" but the question was:" what do the green indicator say?Green, what does it say? Thanks.

Funny and kinda weird story. This past summer, during mid-July, the water in my deep end started to look a little cloudy. First instinct was to check my FC levels. The result came back pretty low (0.5ppm). Crank up the chlorinator a little higher. The following day, the shallow end was also cloudy. At that point, I decided to verify the 4 cartridge filters in my Pentair Clean & Clear Plus. Sure enough, they were in need of a nice bath/soak & rinse. The weird part in all of this was the pressure gauge on the filter was the same as my starting point of the season (10 psi). It had not creeped up to 20 psi as per the “clean filter” message on the gauge. Found that really weird and could not find an explanation. Clean filters helped clear up the cloudiness in no time along with a nice Cal-Hypo shock. :-)

Filter gauge could be broken. They break very easily. Does your gauge read zero when the pump is off?

@@Swimmingpoolsteve Yes sir. I also remove it during winter, stored in my basement. Gauge is a little over a year old.
