I miss him also, a lot! He was my favorite singer all my life. I have a few other favorites, for certain, but no one on earth can really compare with Francis Albert Sinatra, the mold was tossed after his fame broke it and he remained famous! Superb special talent. He has no equal.
The 20th Century has come and gone, Sinatra's century, and even in this 21st Century, he is still going strong, because there just is no better singer -- still! I've been listening to him my whole life and a would wager (if I could still be around then) that he will still be loved throughout this new century and maybe even into the next, if this world is still here! But even if it is nuked, some future humans, will find the time-capsules here and if they're still intact, wonder who THAT was who's voice was so inimitable and prevalent in THAT century long ago! Something like how we feel now about Mozart Chopin, Liszt, Bach and Beethoven, and others of the Romantic Period and those since, others who made music last! Imagine in 3000, they may be talking about Sinatra, Michel Legrand, Henry Mancini, George Gershwin and many others! Wouldn't it be interesting to hear what they'd say!
They didn't call him "The Voice" for naught! He truly WAS the voice of the 20th Century! Gone for quarter of a century now, but still going strong in this 21st Century; people just can't enough of the best there ever was! This song is so poignant and he delivers it with the pain and emotion required, yet with such a clear voice! Within the lyrics to this song is: "we’re not like the rest, we once were the best," No, FS was not like the rest and he certainly was the best, and I imagine people still recognize that and seek out his songs today, because he delivers a song like no other! He called himself a "saloon singer" and those saloon ballads were his forté, no doubt about it, but he could command an audience in every venue in the world, from Carnegie Hall in NY to the Royal Albert Hall in Monaco, to a nightclub stage in Las Vegas, he always packed the audience in to hear him, and no wonder -- he really was one of a kind!
I am still yet to see a male vocalist more comfortable and masterful on stage behind the microphone. His pitch perfect and soulful voice simply commands the surrounding space effortlessly. Cheers.
I certainly don't think his voice failed him during this performance. He sings this with the utmost feeling and emotion I have ever heard. Truly one of his best songs! ❤️
@@carolynbrown7836 His voice absolutely failed him. He had plenty of good nights after this but, his voice got worse and worse. That's just what happens as you get older. It's a rare singer who doesn't lose it. Tony Bennett comes to mind. He was great into his mid 80's. Frankie Lane also. But that's very rare.
@@JP-dw1fp Those who think Frank's voice is good here fall into 2 categories. 1) those with tin ears, can't tell good from bad; 2) those who admire Frank so much that they talk themselves into hearing something they're not. That said... I appreciate the older Frank as a great performer and storyteller, but you can't live on Jack Daniel's and unfiltered Camels and maintain a beautiful voice. It doesn't work that way for anybody, including Frank.
Frank........This is one of my favorites. You do it so well and you are gone now, but we still have your videos to play and play them we do. Love you and RIP Frank.........Betsy Blue-Eyes
How this man could capture and caress a song to totally memorize an audience is a gift no one will ever replicate. I love listening to him and every word he sings swallows into my soul to appreciate what a treasure he was! No one will ever replace him.
Probably one of my favorite Sinatra songs. Listen to the phrasing--incomparable. You will never see this again and I long for someone to come along and revive this genre.
Yes, you are so right, the modern pop music is absolute crap, somebody should start writing meaningful lyrics like these and composing pop music like this, they will make a fortune!
So wonderful and with so much emotion! There will never be anyone like Frank Sinatra, I see myself, with my drink in hand, and just closing my eyes and listen to his stories of his music.
Yes he wasn't just a great performer and actor and singer. He was a great human being. I was reading something about how him and Sammy Davis Jr were playing at a nightclub. The manager told Sammy he had to go in the back door. Frank Sinatra stopped him and told the manger that he goes in the front door same as everyone else or I never play here again. And it wasn't just with Sammy Frank didn't like racist people white or black. He saw everyone the same way. As a human being and that was it. He truly was a great person and he loved America.
Love it, we all love it. Everyone knows this is an underrated masterpiece written by Peter Allen and Carol Bayer Sager. What is missed by many, is the end where the humming of the last four bars is the musical expression of accepting defeat in love. You did all you could do, and it just wouldn’t work out.
