The Force Unleashed II: The Ultimate Star Wars Identity Crisis

- I was a young teenager and ecstatic as could be, since "Santa" decided to gift me a copy of The Force Unleashed II, a game I had been anticipating for more than two years. I opened up the rest of my gifts, ran downstairs, put the game in my Xbox, and spent all of Christmas day gaming. As the day came to an end, I asked myself for the first time in my life…
“Did I just get ripped off?”
Ya.
So, I wasn’t too excited as an adult to revisit it for my retrospective series, and, well, you know, you’ll hear all about, but I just wanted to share the fact that this game is eternally ingrained in my memory. The first game to ever break my heart, to ever make me feel like I burned cash on a video game, and I didn’t even buy the damn thing.
Anyways, let's see if it can change my mind fifteen years later.
Yeah I think those 40 seconds of force pushing the gorog is a bug... I remember being able to push him a lot faster.
Maybe a PC port thing? I looked up other gameplay footage and saw other forty second force pushes.
Edit: Just watched ones where it appears the force pushes sped up with the button mashes. Not sure what caused the bug, but it wasn't *designed* to be forty seconds.
@@KateriYT It's the 60 FPS mod that caused that bug, it happened to me as well
So do I. I remember being able to rapid mash it and starkiller would rapid fire force pushes. The footage you show seems to be not that with a delay in the mashing. It could be the PC port because the ingame cutscene when Kota and Starkiller are in the Barons chamber was fine on xbox360. No jitters
I read the novelization of this game last year and I was amazed by how much better it was from the game, it's still not perfect, but it executes the plot much better and even removes some of the bad parts. I liked it a lot.
Can you give some examples?
Got this for Xmas one year and completed the game in a day. My parents were not happy
Little did they know you were done by lunch
Lol
LETS GOOO!!! I just finished watching both of your force unleashed videos yesterday, and lucky me, now I get to watch the sequel!
The Force-pushing QTE was bugged on your end. He's supposed to push faster and faster, the whole thing lasting maybe 10 seconds. I can't imagine the frustration of mashing for almost 40 seconds.
The novelization of this game is quite good.
The game itself is terrible. Like you this was the first time I was actually disappointed with a game I'd been looking forward to and following the development of. It's even worse when I found out that the reason it turned out so bad is because of everything that had to be cut for time.
For context the first game was made over the course of 4 years, the second was made in less than 2. Once you know that, everything about this game makes WAY more sense.
Merry Christmas, man. Just found your channel the other day and watched your whole review of the first game and the dlc. I've been loving your vids and was surprised at how high quality these are from a lower sub channel. Keep up the good work bro!
Thank you so much! Merry Christmas!
Amazing video, man. I remember playing Force Unleashed 2 at the time, mom bought it for me saying "you might like it, It's kinda like God of War but in Star Wars" 😁
Not a bad game but sure missed potential. Wish we had another Star Wars game like The Force Unleashed 1
TFU 2 was for me too short... It feels like there were few levels that were cut to release it on time. But alas, the thing I find most sad is that because of the mixed reviews of the second game they didn't make a third instalment. It would be awesome to have a trilogy of Starkiller's adventures :) Great video! Have a great New Year! :D
And the gorog wasn't even dead. Boba Fett killed it when chasing starkiller
At 17:36 HELLLL NO that sounds extremely tedious. What would be better is hiding them better behind like platforming challenges, or combat challenges like fight off a wave in this one optional room. I dont want a task list to complete but if the holocrons were locked behind some challenge would've been nice.
Got this game for Christmas as well and back then I liked the game when I beat it but something always felt off about it but kid me could never quite figure out what it was but it's a shame for how good this game should've been
It's so freaky that you say this was the first game you ever felt ripped off by; I felt the exact same way. I'd bought scratched discs for Vice City and Star Wars: The Clone Wars (the PS2 game, no relation to the TV series), and still didn't feel as bummed as I did after TFU2.
With the gorog fight, idk why its taking you so long to activate the restraints. You can spam the force push a lot faster than that. Takes about 10 seconds if I recall correctly
This video is so solid, you deserve way more subs
I'd kinda hoped you'd delve into the last gen ports. Like the first game, for some reason the ports for older consoles got the lion's share of content and full plot. I remember watching a friend play the Wii version of this, and Dagobah was a full platforming level with a kind of mirror-twist with a 2nd version of you inverting your moves. In my memory this 2nd version more resembled the "Dark Apprentice" so maybe it was hinting at that. I haven't looked into it for a while but I'm curious how it stacks up.
What a coincidence. Finished the game on hard difficulty like 3 days ago. And trust me, all of the difficulty issues you have mentioned are not present on Hard/Unleashed difficultues, you actually want to search for holocrons so you can extend your health/force bar and sabers become handy pretty much. I remember my first playthrough on easy difficulty and them sabers didn't make any difference. Playing the game on hard definitely won't prolong the playtime much, but I am sure they make totally different experience
I played on Hard
@KateriYT OK my bad. I am just skill issue gamer then
This game was probably what made Lucasarts go bankrupt
Recently got this game last week. I was at a GameStop and saw the force unleashed 1 on sale for 10 bucks. Nostalgia kicking in, I bought the game, but when I got home I realized there was a mixup and they gave me the disc for 2 instead of 1. Not gonna lie, I like this game, but I'm genuinely thinking of going back to try and replace it with the first game like it was supposed to be. Still not sure though
Edit: Also fun bug I keep running into, sometimes when I died, starkiller would get back up as if he still had some health, only to then keel over like a cartoon character
I didn’t even pick this game up when it released, I watched somebody else’s let’s play of it and I still felt gipped after I finished watching the let’s play
I heard the game was made in 9 months or less. A part of me feels like a force unleashed sequel should have focused on kota instead of a clone of star killer. NOW for the real question WHO IS THE STRONGEST, SITH STALKER LORD STAR KILLER OR THE DARK APPEARANCE?
Lord Starkiller
Also thoughts on reviewing the psp port/version of the force unleashed 1?
Unlikely. Pretty sick of these games haha
Surprised you didn't go on a 15 minute rant about the dark side ending and how it just makes us question the whole logic behind the plot??? I mean with kota knowing Starkiller's id in FU1 he said he "suspected" it was him, wasn't actually sure yet you went on for like 15 mins (and ye the game doesn't spell it out to us)
The only thing i like about the dark side ending is it adds eerie context when starting a hypothetical FU3, like after the light side ending ur worried about boba fett but after the dark side ending ur like 'uh oh, i now know the dark apprentice was lurking around and that vader had a plan B, is he invisible on my ship??? what's he up to???...'. Good foreshadowing that adds tension to the light side ending and ur experience going into the 3rd game... oh wait
This seriously crossed my mind, but by the time I got to the ending, the game had so many problems I was just kind of burnt out, so decided to roll with "I like the clone" since it's just like, a cool concept and twist.
I didn't think another 15 minute rant on Kota sensing Starkiller, unless he just *can't* for not reason, and parsing that out was worth the time for anyone.
This game seems very disappointing & truncated in comparison to the first entry. It's sad that it seems like it was unable to expand on the original in a satisfying way
