Thanks for the tips on the Genie Safe-T-Beam 3x red blinking light for interference. I swapped sides with the green and all is good. The red was originally near an electrical outlet in the wall to its rear. Guess that was the culprit.
Thanks!!
My 2 cents. I have 2 doors with craftsmans. My side works great. My wife had me change her bulb, so I used a curly bulb. About a week later it started stopping going up and down. I replaced it with Genie. Looking back I think it was the bulb.
Good info here on Frequencies .
Just was watching a GENIE Installation Models 7055 2055 v6 video on Genie Company UA-cam channel .
At the 14:28 mark in the video , they do show a list of LED bulbs that are LEAST likely to affect the opener's radio function .
Video published on Oct 11 , 2017 .
I had no idea a light bulb could have such effect on systems .
( Like pointed out in this video , 👍 ,,,, Thanks for the tip ) .
I go back to the days where there was like , oh , 15 light bulbs to choose from ,,,,, now there's like 150 ,,,, ha ha .
I'm an electrician. I don't know about garage doors, but I've seen weird things happen with those CFL bulbs, And motion sensor lights, or light switches that light up so you can see it in the dark.
It doesn't even need to be in the same room. As far as I've seen it can be anything on the same circuit.
I figure with the lighted switches and motion sensors there's always a couple volts feeding them. So that oddball current is returning on the neutral and it does weird stuff to other fixtures on that circuit.
Really strange things happen when the neutral isn't behaving like its supposed to. It can make a place look haunted with lights flashing like crazy. Or it'll do something really tiny that you barely see in the corner of your eye.
I think the LiftMaster Board Problem is related to power surges I have the 990LM on my 8550 and it hasn’t skipped a beat in the two years it been installed. The world will end before I promote Genie or OHD. Forgot to mention my parents have had their 8355s installed for 5+ years problem free and yes they have the 990LM surge protector on both of them.
Hmm you might be onto something with the power surge.
Ya with liftmaster I only trust is the elite series but even then the door has to run well if not it overload the sensors had an 8587w that kept having force issue it was on a wooden door the builder bought him self so the springs where wrong and we could never get to work right so I put on a genie 4124H and we haven’t heard back sense but then I took that 8587w put on my brothers house and at first it had the same issue but sense my brothers door was working well after a week it started acting normal
I've got a 28 year old Genie that is having issues with the SAF-T-Beam blinking continuously. Nothing has changed re bulbs, wifi, lights - anything. Had a number of false triggers over the last several months, increasing in frequency. Now the red LED blinks at all times. I'm going to just replace the black boxes with the newer bullet shaped modules. Unless someone has a better idea. I figure after 28 years the infrared LED inside the transmitter has lost some of it's intensity and can no longer do the job.
The Genie photo eyes:
They self diagnose
1 flash = problem a, 2 flash = b etc.
Their self diagnostics for “interference” which sounds to line up with your personal experience can be “cross talk” caused by another photo eye and/or wiring/voltage issues. I’d say the issue you dealt with was related to bad/corroded wires/intermittent crossing of STB wires. “RFI” radio frequency interference and the growing “Magnetic interference” have been a huge concern. Genie compiled a concise LOL list of 100+? Brand/model CFL/LED bulbs known to emit interference that hinders the remote control system. Coach lights installed outside the garage with modern led lights cause issues frequently. On Liftmaster products as far back as Red learn button 5021-current production YES BRAND new out of the box openers! Have a “my remote won’t close the door when I leave in the morning, but works when I come home” symptom. (The relay that energizes the light socket, when this relay fails it emits either RFI/MI and blocks all radio signals for that 5minute light cycle. High speed internet providers commonly pipe in internet via Coax cable. If/when that coax cable insulation is compromised and/or when the coax fitting is loosely/crookedly secured can emit RFI that causes these remote issues. Normally will affect multiple houses. Ask the cable company to send a tech with a “radio frequency sniffer” (real term) to track down the issue. Many will claim they’re on frequency bands so far out of range they SHOULDNT effect 300-400MHz... insist on the technician anyways. Have you ever had your genie intellicode remote sync with Liftmaster learn button openers? That’s fun to explain/identify/eliminate.
Thanks Dave...keep up the great work 👷♀️
Amazing video Dave!!! Btw, if you hold a tv remote by them, it will do the same thing
OMG no way that's awesome to know. Love it thanks.
I just put a brand genie in today and I wired the photo eyes up like the manual said but the led on both photo eyes are not on and I have a red flashing light on the unit itself, any suggestions
Back in the day we would call that the red light of death. I would call Genie this week and get tech support they are normally pretty helpful. It might just be a bad unit out of the boy. Make sure your Wall button is lit and you have the wires for photo eyes and wall button in the correct spot genie is a little confusing on location of wires. Good luck 👍
I have 2 genie pro max chain drives and i would be in the garage doing something and I would see the safety beam flash and I thought it was crazy but i noticed that this happened shortly after I replaced the lights in the garage with LEDs. Thanks for sharing this video.
I'm not crazy yes! Thanks for info about the LED lights just another thing to watch for.👍
@@affordabledoorgatellc7391 i found out that the old school liftmaster remotes interact with the sensors, if you are curious i made a video of it but I won't force you to watch it because you seem like a busy man.
Is the an editorial on people, a small business seminar or a video on how to fix safety lights?
Can't say I have ever seen anyone fix them only replace them.
This is so interesting to hear genie out preforming liftmaster. Out here in Southern California all I remove is genie, martin, and merantec. I’ve installed liftmaster for years and the only issue I’ve had with them was a 888lm wall button going out, which liftmaster sent a free replacement. I’ve removed all o matic and installed liftmaster rsl and csl24v with not one call back ever. I trust liftmaster and trusted them when their operators were elite brands, I still have some roboswings and miracle operators out there after 10 years of operation. Idk maybe genie just likes your weather better???
I have not heard about the light bulbs or Wi-Fi affecting the safety sensors before. Remote controls yes but not safety sensors that's a new one thank you for that. I do know that when you're installing two operators side-by-side the red ones are supposed to be together in the center to prevent them from blinking. Genie actually has a diagram in their manuals for their operators in how to install the safety sensors in what orientation for how many operators you have in a row. that might help you keep them from blinking if it is a problem with them being installed together.
I am not going to disagree with you are absolutely right I feel like our generation is taking it a little bit too far with garage door opener’s they should’ve stopped like the Chamberlain series that you can buy at Home Depot or Lowe’s because you really never have any problems with those but the more technology they put in them I think in my mind the more it messes them up they need to go back to the original openers because that’s why older opener’s last way longer than probably new ones
Zackary Hilton yes!!! That's my exact thought lots of opener companies are trying to squeeze in as many smart features as they can, and to do that they have to cut down on quality of other parts. What they should be doing is making openers to do what they are meant to do, open and close the garage door
@@TBHD724 yeah fr the only thing we need in them is battery back up and maybe MQ
I wouldn't mind all the extra smart features if they would make everything last longer. I would gladly pay more for an opener if it will last longer, matter of fact I'd rather have an opener with hardly any features that I know is gonna last then one that has a bunch of fancy stuff but will die in 6 months
No kidding isn't that the truth
Great video.
I just had a 8500 deadbolt fall apart on the inside. Less than 6 months old and it wouldn't unlock reliably.
Those dead bolts are not the best. I wonder if the Genie's new Jack shaft one will be any better.
It's all plastic gears inside, I wasn't impressed

I wonder if it’s an environmental difference cause in Utah I sell those all the time and don’t have a single problem
I've seen the genies blink, took me forever to figure out to swap them. It usually fixes it, I've noticed it's usually interference with genie and liftmaster safety eyes. Also I figured out recently genies give trouble codes with the safety sensors. Sometimes that's why they are blinking.
That's awesome. Didn't know about the codes. Good intell.
I believe it's all the new style safety sensors. If you look up genie safe-t-beam codes you should be able to find something on them.
Just dawned on me it's a code.
I used a genie overhead to power my lift master side mount. Works great but one of my red sensor lights blink. It goes down but it flashed a code I think. Just realized it does a code so I will look into that next but if anyone knows more please inform me. Did the same thing on both my garage doors since both went out at the same time. 500$ each or 120 each with some ingenuity.
Me genie garage door sensor 1 sensor is green & 1 is red is that normal.
Sounds correct to me normally the red will flash when it’s being blocked. Good luck 🍀
Thank you. House inspector said it was out of alignment but after testing the beam the door returns when broken
Nice Sears!
Does WiFi mess with the safe t beams?
The Genie Technician that I deal with that I truly trust did tell me that WiFi can interfere with phone eyes.
We use photo eyes on a lot of our assembly lines. The news owners required ansi ll reflective shirts. The photo eyes would pick up the reflective off the shirts and throw the line out of sync.
I see you are wearing a reflective hoody.
That is too funny 😂 would have never thought of that 👍
But ya genie has been fantastic and talking with them at ida yes liftmaster is more advanced with the smart stuff but genie isn’t far behind they will be doing in garage delivery in the next year they are working on doing led lights already built in and working on getting the camera on there site to work with there app and there shaft motor is a lot cleaner install not all those wires
