G.A.S - What are some of the pieces of gear you'd love to have in your studio? Share below.
A complete vocal booth!
I would love more instruments. synths, a quality piano and a drum set (I'd love a drum set)
The classic analog gear tried and tested.. Pultec, neve etc.
And that 8 track would be nice ha ha.
Those compressors and monitors :p
Marc seems like the kind of guy who'd be a great passenger on a really long drive.
Absolutely! Agreed 100%!
Hahaha true
Im a massive MDN fan. What a class act.
We're a big fan of you!
Heyyy glad to see you here ... Hello 👋
@@Producelikeapro totally. We need Riff Wars II !!!!
Absolutely agreed!
Haha I love both your channels lol.
Marc's final word and your reaction were worth the admission price alone, really brought a smile to my face. Great video.
Thanks ever so much Jem
I totally understand the vibe of being surrounded by random objects that have meaning to you. I'm flanked by all sorts of weird (mostly old) stuff, including a Cylon (Battlestar Gallactica) figure, a Vectrex videogame console, tarot cards, brain posters, native American pottery and carvings, butterfly knives, a 1979 rotary telephone, comic books, and a lot more. Thanks to Warren and MDN for this great tour! Sending good vibes without phase cancellation to you up the 5 from Carlsbad!
Marc is my favorite. I kinda love how there were minimal cuts. Feels exactly how it might be if I were touring his studio. Good questions Warren
Proof you don't need a giant room or purpose built studio to make good stuff. Love the setup and cozy creative feeling.
Exactly 💯
Just a ton of gear and an amazing ear for room correction
Agreed! Thanks ever so much Beyond!
For anyone searching the headphones: Audeze LCD-X
Next: it's not a complain, i just wanna say Marc Daniel Nelson is the only mixing content i immediately jump into cause it's fast and gold (together with The House of Kush).
33:59 this part is so honest and rare, music IS sounding all the same and it's great that the highest professionals are admitting it, thank you.
Whenever I see Marc at work on here it feels like there's something genuinely special on display, like he is able to make music speak emotionally in the way I want to hear it. Wishing you both all the best.
I love this guy. Calm, down to earth and fun guy to be around. Thank guys for this 🙌🏻
Really love Marc and his videos on this channel. Took his course on Pro Mix Academy and learnt so much new stuff. Thank you so much Marc for sharing your wisdom and experience and thank you so much Warren for promoting such phenomenal guys like Marc on this wonderful channel!
Thanks, Alexey! Marc is wonderful and today is the last day for the intro price on the course
"Oh 20 pounds. Pump some iron, pump some iron....Im not gonna go to crazy on that" had me cracking up.
Many thank's for the video...I mean all of your videos. I just got into recording about a year ago and your channel is one of the main reasons I dove so deep in the music recording rabbit hole. Much thanks to all you guys! - Michael "Miggy Crash" Ethridge.
I just have such respect for Marc Daniel Nelson. What a talent.
'Getting bored of your own sound!' I know that vibe. Luckily, the desire to 'do it again', is what pulls me forward. Nice place, Mr Nelson
I could watch you and Marc talk about recording and gear all day! His setup is really indicative of where pared down modern studios are going. It's not terribly different than I'm sure a lot of bedroom studios while still containing world class gear and of course Marc's mind and ears, love it!
What a creative environment you have there Marc. Love the studio and the big window and garden view and how clean and tidy it all is. Thanks for sharing.
Mogwai on the Tascam is the highlight of this studio tour.
I agree with him 100% on having a creative space with your gear and little quirky fun items that express your interest over a traditional control room. I always feel so much more inspired.
I'm impressed that he's held on to so much stuff from decades ago. I've had to throw a lot out in numerous moves.
When I see a video come up with Marc in it, you know it's going to be epic. Warren and Marc, my two favourite producers. 🙏❤
I really like how relaxed you both are in this video!
SO many great pieces of info. Thanks!
Wow, what a great studio tour with Marc Daniel Nelson and Warren Huart! Thanks for this beautiful video! What a control room and what a lovely space to relax in, that's inspiration. Didn't know that Marc is such a big Beatles fan, I'm very happy about that. ❤🎧🙏
Thanks Warren... I've learned a lot watching Marc's videos over the past year. Great to see his new space.
A lot of my gear was inconsistent until we finally burned up one leg of the underground main and the electric company came out and repaired it. That pretty much solved all of those weird issues I was having, but further conditioning etc only made life easier. Of course I really enjoy Marc’s content. A lot of dreamy equipment in there, and I now get a better picture of what he meant when he said the 10% rule so many videos ago. He elaborated, it’s a little here, a little there, and it all adds up to create his final sound… that he eventually tires of. ;)
Now about that Rickenbacker…
Two of my most favorite people! Thanks Marc and Warren
Thanks ever so much my friend
I remember coming across a video of MDN talking about making tracks sound huge and full using Mid-Side EQ and ever since then, been captivated by his approaches. This video was extremely entertaining and insightful into his workflow and taste.
As a drummer, we sometimes paint ourselves into a corner by focusing on the 'lick of the day' or how many plies our drum kits have, but I promised myself I would branch out and absorb all I could about actually recording and mixing ourselves so that if one day I found myself doing it on my own or with a grammy-nominated engineer, I would be miles ahead of the guy who could only just play. Thank you so much Warren for putting this content out there - it makes all of us better ARTISTS, MUSICIANS, and CREATORS which at the end of the day, is what we are!!
Thanks Mark and Warren, absolute big fan of Mark’s work. He is definitely a unique & phenomenal sounding producer mixer, it’s great to get a run down of his gear.
Thanks guys.
He has a Fairchild, And doesn't make a big deal out of it. I would faint looking at it.
Really enjoyed this video so thanks to Marc for allowing it to be made and thank you Warren for making it. It's down to Marc that I purchased my UF8 and I have to say its a fantastic bit of kit. I;ve had it about a month and a half now and I have not even touched the surface of what it can do, and SSL have just brought out a software update that adds some more new features. Love it.
What a fantastic studio tour. One of my fav studio tours I've watched on UA-cam. EPIC is definitely apropos!
à propos ✌️
Awesome Studio! Great Engineer! The Sound of his mixing & mastering projects speaks for itself! Thanks Mark and Warren.
the 388 was an absolutely brilliant machine. recorded so many tunes on one of those things.
Been waiting for a new studio tour.. Right on time Warren!
Nice to see the studio after all these great videos!
Again Warren, hanging with your friends is the best!
I just bought the Mixing Modern Rock with Grammy Nominee Marc Daniel Nelson. I’ve watched PLAP for years and this is my first purchase. Absolutely love your content and can’t wait to dive in.
That’s wonderful to hear!!
May God bless you guys i watch it to the very end and this walk through was fantastic i love your videos and i love marc work and his room
Awesome, Daniels Studio is amazing and packed with the things that help him to bring his creative vision forward, great studio tour guys!
Hi Ady!
You Rock Ady!
Hi@@williamtell1477
@@williamtell1477 Hey William whats up? ;)
@@Producelikeapro I learned from you how to Rock haha
enjoyed this very much, thank you guys for sharing!
Funny, the minute I saw those old cameras I knew it was because of JFK/Zapruder. I also was fascinated by that for a while and love the look of that 60's hardware. The 60's seemed like a cool time. Everyone was well dressed and smoking and drinking everywhere lol. Really enjoyed this studio tour. Seems to me more and more that money is best spent on hardware compressors and one or two good bus EQ. Everything else can really be done in the box now.
i can’t believe how much Marc has everything down pat. Just wow.
Let’s goooo! Been waiting patiently for this.
Marc seems like a genuinely good dood. Enjoyed this one as always Warren. Thanks again!
finally! i love this! cheers to both of you!
love the small studio with warm lighting. EPIC gear naturally. my lava lamp died after 10 years or so. I should get another 🙌🏼
Be aware when inviting Warren to your house....he will touch everything he can. (3.40min in) 😂😂😂Two great people together having a genuine good time.....and us....the viewers. Fantastic video. MDN one of my favourites.
Haha thanks ever so much
"...smells like my childhood" . Love it
My dad bought me the tascam 388 when I was 10 years old. over 3 decades ago. Thanks Dad :-)
That was a fun video!! Love you guys🤘
Beautiful house, that big window is amazing, beautiful wood work in the studio.
Thanks for this tour. Beautiful home and a stellar cozy yet badazz studio.
BEAUTIFUL STUDIO! 😍
Elegant as hell! 🙈
Love my UC1 & UF8.... Amazing pieces of kit
Love Marc philosophy and the way he works and share his amazing knowledge!!!
I've enjoyed, and learned a lot from every MDN video. Now that I know we share the love of a 388, I'm out of my mind. He's one of my favorites!
Great time visiting Mark 's place
What a beautiful house & studio! Loved the tour thank you both. Loved Marc’s Beatles guitar collection (Warren you have to get a Casino… covers all genres, & it’s loud enough to pick up & play for fun without needing to plug it in) It’s great that recording has moved into home studios & creative spaces. Studios mostly became the same… & everything started sounding the same, unlike in the 60’s & 70’s when studios were different from each other to a certain degree. Our home studios give us a point of difference now.
That was awesome! Love Marc! Great gear, wow! Thank you Warren!
Thanks ever so much
Marc is a legend!
you can tell the people who are born to do this job, theres such an element of youthful excitement towards the equipment. it felt like Marc was 10 years old and showing us his pokemon card collection at points in the video.
Awesome guys! great work. Loved it. Very insightful and fun.
Yes, yes, YES! Do the Buss+ and SLL 4000 shoot out.
That damn fern is one month younger than me. 🙂
The sound difference between the studio "club house" and the other rooms is so awesome👌 beautiful house
Marvellous Bruno!
Amazing spaces!
Warren you are such an awesome person. So passionate and very inspiring. Thanks for your wonderful videos
Thanks ever so much James!!
Me being from Finland am amazed you found the mic from here. There's loads of old YLE (Finnish Radio) stuff floating around, never seen a U47 for sale though.
This was awesome! Didn't know this guy.....but I really like him now. Thanks Warren!
This is great! Marc seems super cool, home studio is amazing 😎
Great video guys. Two of the best in the field.
Thank you. That means a lot.
Thanks, Lawane.. Have fun!
@@marcdanielnelson317 No thank you gentlemen for being a inspiration to others.
You are both simply great !
Aw shucks! Thanks ever so much!
Loved every second of it and you both. Less is more, just repeat.
simply a.m.a.z.i.n.g :)) I'd love to spend 1h into it.. to finally understand what all those amazing gears sound for real with the great advice of one of the most gifted mixer on earth !
That 8track is fantastic!! Blown!
The hodgepodge studio gig is fantastic. 👍👏
Install a strong draw away curtain or drape a thick, thick fabric over the screen. It worked for me, so try it.
I waited and waited to see your best friend (dog), and at 41:03 I finally saw him.🐶
Love the MDN interview, very informative and loving the Beatles didn’t hurt at all, well done very enjoyable!!!
Love this video. Both of you guys are so talented and seem like the kind of people I like hanging with, not just for the great gear either.
This was great! Cool house and studio!
Such a cool dude. Very privileged to have two songs mixed by this guy 👍🔥🔥🔥
MDN is so cool! Love this studio vibe
Thanks Conor!
Big props to Marc for keeping the old 388 rolling! ;:-)
Love those things!, and always kick myself for not buying one back in the day. They're also a decent PA mixer in a pinch ;:-)
I know a couple people that have a Fairchild(or remake) or the Shadow Hills, and like Marc they don't really use them so much for compression. They barely kiss the gain reduction and instead use them for tone. I got to borrow the 500 series version of the Optograph many years ago. Really cool piece!.
I always dig these really creative home spaces with all the goodies........high level candy store nerd out joy! :-)
Marc Daniel Nelson such a cool guy
Based on the many studio tour videos I've seen, there appears to be one essential piece of gear I'm missing. I see at least one in almost every studio. I need a Lava Lamp ;-) Thanks Marc, Warren and crew - good video!
Yeah haha…. That’s where the magic starts… it’s the idea generator 😜
Apparently, it's the fake plant. 38:05 lol.
I seen one 17:22 and 19:38
You need a lava lamp if you have valve gear.
Vox amp made in what became Sound City...that's so Rock 'n Roll I can't even process it! 😂
This was one of the most interesting studio tours. Thanks Marc for doing it.. You showed it's more than just stuff, it's about feeling and perception of sound. I would love to know more about Mac/PC set-up. and if you think you may move the new M1 devices from Apple? Appreciated.
Very enjoyable. I love your gear, Lots of flavor, and fun to listen to your views in sound and the connection you have with past and present. Your studio, It's like the candy store for your ears.
Cool studio and tour!
You both are great! Thanks for that... Peace ✌️
Thanks ever so much
As a pro Vocalist, Bassist and Home Project studio user, I was pleased that you both started out on Tascam 4 tracks😁. I started on the exact same one. 😊👍🏻.
I respect both of your work.
Looks like an awesomely cool space to work
Love Marc! Hoping for more content from him
Lots more to come! Marc Rocks!
I’m always entertained by Marc’s description of certain sounds. ‘Creamy’… that’s a new one I have to add my list of ways to describe sound. It totally works
Super interview with Marc. Well Done, Warren. Impressive :)
I Love this !
Great stuff. Marc is one cool dude. Thanks very much for the video.
Enjoyed the discussion around a natural creative space. Makes me think of Real World studios in Bath, UK.
That Audio Scapae is killing it. I'm just going to pull the trigger and pick up a pre from them. Great studio by the way!
love it! like seeing someone's idea a dream home or sonic paradise.
Love it, thanks, guys.
Thanks ever so much
Great video, two great guys, thanks for sharing your knowledge, gear and passion 🙏
Thanks ever so much! I really appreciate it
Great tour, felt like I was in the room with you. I much prefer the home studio vibe. Very inspiring! Thanks
Thanks Martin!!
I love the fact (and a little jealous) that he still has his 4 track cassette recorder. I wish I had kept my Tascam Portastudio 1 and 2. I have multitrack cassettes that I cant play since they were recoded with the dbx. I may look for a replacement for sentimental reasons. My first real start into recording when i was 15 in the 80s.
