i watched this for the first time in 3rd grade and over the past years i tried to look for this and i could never find it. this version is so good and i cherish it.
This is actually the closest version to the original fable of Cinderella there is. In the original telling, there was no fairy godmother, pumpkins, or glass slippers. The original story came from Germany and Austria and it was more of a drinking story than a fairy tale. The French version with its fairy godmother, pumpkins and glass slipper were thought to be less frightening to children than a stepmother cutting off her daughters heels and toes and a father neglecting his own daughter for the love of his new wife and stepchildren. In the French version the mice took on the role of doves, and a fairy godmother in place of a dead mother, and the father dies instead of becoming a neglectful and demeaning jerk. The story about sorting the peas became having to wash and really wash the house. Also, the King was already dead, rather than the king looking for a wise for his son. The original story was far morbid....but far more believable. I like this. Even the dubbing to English makes it more believable.
