I love Solforge Fusion and have been playing for a while. “UndyTie”… lol. Undead+Yeti - d&Y… I recommend separating the 2 level up zones by faction. It saves a ton of time on reset and leveling up. One of the things that confused us early in learning the game: You can play ‘Free’ cards and ‘Activate’ cards any number of times before or after you play your card. Once you pass to an opponent then you can’t play Free cards or Activate abilities. Having 2 markers for who has the Forge has caused problems in the past so we have 1 marker that gets passed back and forth.
Excellent video! One quick rule correction: the graphic at 6:00 shows a creature sliding to the back row as it's owner is losing the Forge at end of turn. That doesn't happen, what your script says is correct - creatures in back row slide forward, and that's it. If you slide creatures to back row, they won't be attacking as frequently as they're supposed to. Original Flavor SolForge had all creatures attacking every turn, even creatures controlled by nonactive players, and that's been retained in Fusion.
I really loved the original SolForge online before they "updated" (killed) the UI. It was really fast paced with cool art & feel. Hope they have more success with this version of the game.
The rules and mechanics of this CCG is like a blended up version of MTG's Jumpstart, Yu-Gi-Oh!, and the Digimon Trading Card Game with some Keyforge layered on top of its unique lane battlefield. I think I'll keep an eye on this game... (Edit: I forgot the word "this" before CCG oops)
I'm glad to see Solforge lives on in some medium, and I'm glad the leveling-up mechanic has carried over! that was the unique component to solforge, along with the lane-based combat. interesting that it seems to have a bit of keyforge regarding the unique decks, which is another game I wanted to try at some point. physical Solforge looks fun, and for those who have played the previous digital incarnation the level 2 and 3 decks make sense. I liked the strategic decision of playing a creature that is initially strong but doesn't get much stronger at level 2/3 compared to a longer-term card that scales up faster. so thanks for the video, professor!
Oh wow what a crazy coincidence you uploaded this haha, a coworker of mine brought in solforge fusion and was looking to play it today. Thanks for this video! It'll help save us a lot of time in the setup :)
I remember when this was a digital only game. Glad to see the company's doing well even after all this time. I finally got to sit down for a demo for this at my LGS and hope that it picks up locally.
Elements of V.S. System, Warhammer Age of Sigmar Champions, MtG and moba's. Seems interesting. The free scan in for Tapletop simulator is a really smart addition.
Love you prof, thanks for bringing more card games to us! There's many reasons to take a break from Magic and I'm enjoying many and some of those you introduced people to. I'm happier not clinging to old habits but experiencing new stuff. These videos do something good, they reinvigorate the live for tabletop TCGs
Hello, could you please consider doing a video on Netrunner? The original game is out of print, however the fan made NISEI initiative is going strong and the game seems on the rise :) It would definitely be a huge boost and a reward for the non-profit NISEI fan organization. Have a good one!
I'd love to have a video about Netrunner by the Prof, briefly going through the history of the game from its TCG roots to its FFG renaissance and death, and landing on the current NISEI era. This could draw a lot of much needed attention to the current version of the game!
Hey Prof! Love your videos. This one was excellent, as usual. I want to point out a couple of minor rules errors: - At about the 5 minute mark, your verbal description of the Stealth keyword is incorrect. Stealth creatures basically bypass opposing creatures in the back row, but they, themselves, cannot attack the opponent from the back row. - Around the 6 minute mark, the animation shows the new "non-forge" player's card moving from the front to the back row. This does not happen. Creatures stay in the front row unless they gain defender or an effect moves them back. Would it be possible to get some corrections on these or maybe a note in the description? I know a lot of stores and community organizations are planning to use your video for teaching purposes, so these errors do have a relatively high risk of propagating throughout the playerbase and getting people very confused. Also, I love the fact that you started with the lore. I've been playing this game for several months now and haven't much dived into the lore. It is really interesting, though. Thanks!
Thanks for the video. I picked up the game recently and have been trying to figure out how to play it. The lack of rules in the box is highly annoying, and the online rules only go so far. Seeing stuff in motion was definitely helpful. Cheers.
This game was ton of fun to play a few years ago on mobile. It's neat to see it in paper, but, it's a lot of moving parts and would have ben great just to see it come back to digital, since it's a lot easier to manage the game mechanics. And in case anyone was wondering, yes the Solforge digital game had a better economy than MTG Arena.
@@themanly1672 that's something. I wish they would just bring the game back to mobile. It was a blast to play a few years back, but, I think the company was stretched a little too thing on R&D and playtest, because card balance was slow to happen and once they started going for fancy graphics to "enhance the gameplay experience" the game performance started to suffer and they could never get the game back to an enjoyable state.
@@owlxoggest6247 That and they made it more pay to win to where you had to use gold which you could only purchase with money to get the new sets and you could only buy the generic packs with silver and they basically doubled the price per pack. Game is cool, but O think this algorithm deck building model is silly and money grabby. Best decks will be rare and expensive or you can just buy lots of packs and hope.
@@themanly1672 yeah I think I got out before it got too bad. I tend to try lots of games and just look for budget options with each game, and found Solforge actually fairly easy to be competitive with all common decks for the first year or so that I played it. When I came back to it after a bit of a break it was a shell of what I remembered that was if I could make it through a game without it crashing
Hi prof, love the video! I might be a little late to the *game* but I'd love to see a play-through/review for Marvel Champions. Keep making these invaluable resources!
Wait I'm so confused. How does this relate to SolForge? Similar cards different concept? Do you buy decks like in KeyForge? The deckbuilding aspect is choosing which halves to play? I think a longer introduction to the game would have been helpful.
SolForge Fusion is a new (physical) incarnation of the old digital SolForge game. Many of the cards will be familiar to old SolForge players. In Fusion, many of the cards are procedurally generated by combining a base card (Icecrusher, for example) with a modifier (Stout) to create multiple possible versions of the same base card (Stout Icecrusher, Relentless Icecrusher, Stampeding Icecrusher, etc.). In addition to that, rather than the full deckbuilding of SolForge, Fusion's deckbuilding involves taking two procedurally generated, static half-decks of cards and combining them together to get a Fused deck. This means that, like KeyForge, you will buy new decks. However, unlike KeyForge, you're never stuck with a deck that is completely useless! Any half-deck in SolForge Fusion, as bad as it might look at first glance, could potentially just need the perfect mate (and some savvy play) to make it a top-tier competitor. Hope that helps clear some stuff up!
The Solforge game was amazing. I invested a lot in this game. It was completely abandoned and it was brutal. I don’t really have any trust in Stoneblade. Don’t invest money in this game if it’s support is important to you!
At roughly 6:02, what is spoken is correct, but the video is incorrect. All cards in back move to the front, but the images show a front card erroneously moving to the back.
