Everyone likes to claim they're professional wildlife/nature photographer, Simon is clearly the real deal. Learned a lot from this channel.
Too kind!
Simon, fantastic work! I’m a very, very, beginner photographer and i learn so much from your channel. I really appreciate when you touch on the basics and good practices, but you also challenge the experienced photographer as well. Please keep up the great work and thinking about us newbies!
If you're making money doing something, then you're a professional. Simple as that.
that's right. this is the only channel where I don't skip the opening sequence.
As a total beginner to manual, this is the first video I've seen on the exposure triangle that actually mentions the light meter, so thank you!
focus on shutter speed and aperture first, auto iso won’t kill you as a beginner
Mate, this stuff has confused me for years, you nailed it in one! The penny has finally dropped, respect
I'm just getting into photography. And Simon is absolutely the clearest and best teacher ever. The internet is not all bad :)
I watched many Photography videos but Simons teaching and content is definitely pure gold. Thank you Simon.
Wow, thank you!
I’m just getting into taking pictures more, watched a lot of videos but you do a better job at teaching it. Thank you. Now I just need to learn how to change my settings when I’m taking pictures (which dials to move). Thanks again 😊
This is probably the most helpful video I've seen. You have a way of taking something that can seem complicated and overwhelming and explaining it in an easy to understand way. The 3 scenarios you went through simplified not just how the settings work, but how they work together. Thank you.
Glad it was helpful!
Couldn't have said it better myself, great video.
Well said, great video
Agreed. I've watched several videos about this subject and this was explained the best.. by far.
Agreed. So helpful..
10 minutes of my life i would gladly spent watching this again.Thank you very much sir.
So nice of you
I’m in a lot of photography groups, and a lot of people have trouble with manual exposure, this is always the video I send them.
Every time I open this channel I'm tempted to hit the like button from the beginning...
Simon is the teacher I enjoy watching! Once again, thanks for the explanations!
Sometimes I reflect on what a miracle it is to have videos like this freely and readily available...
I remember seeing this video as I was switching to manual mode, about 8 months ago, and now I've returned to see the video through a new lens. Going manual wasn't as daunting as I though, and starting with ISO in auto mode made things easier, when I wasn't very quick with the settings.
I sure there are thousands of good and very good photographers, but when you want to share your knowledge to others, you have to have another skill THE WAY YOU EXPLAIN! ❤❤❤
And another great thing for the beginners:examples!
I haven't taken a photo in 5 years. My enthusiasm has now come back, so am refreshing my skills. Your easy style is excellent for me, so many thanks Simon.
You can do it!
Thank you, thank you thank you Simon. You are the first person I have seen on UA-cam who has shown the 3 options to start with for a specific scene and explained it simply. I have struggled with metering in manual mode. New to DSLR. I have a better understanding now. You have a new subscriber 👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻
Great to hear!
Beyond just more creative control, manual shooting makes you slow down and spend more time looking at your composition. Even if you're someone who shoots mostly in aperture priority or full p (totally valid choices just to reiterate Simon's point), manual shooting can be a great way to break yourself out of a rut
Best exposure triangle video i have seen. the way you explain how to use the exposure triangle with examples and shutter speed references was exactly what i wanted to find when i started shooting manual. 3 years later and still helpful thank you
Simon ive learnt more from watching your videos than anyone else I’ve seen on UA-cam thankyou.
I have found a sweet spot of camera setting for me. I like 400 ISO, f.3.5 and aperture priority "Av" on my 70-200mm lens and Canon R100 camera for flower photos.
Simon, your videos finally gave me the initiative to get out there and start to experiment with shooting in manual and it's finally starting to all make sense to me. Thank you!
I have been searching for a video that would help with fundamentals. I didn't expect to find one this comprehensive - absolutely superb, thanks!!
this video is so helpful!! i am a student in photo journalism and we have an assignment where we shoot action shots of athletes at our school in their respective sports… i decided i wanted to get off sports mode and go for manual but i was hesitant. this video has cleared my doubts and i feel more confident and switching to manual. i’m excited to shoot the pictures next week… thank you again!!
Finally! Someone sharing helpful information in a way that is non-intimidating, exceptionally clear, and appropriately concise. I'm waiting for my new camera to arrive, and looking forward to taking some great beginner shots using the knowledge you've shared here. You're an outstanding teacher. I've subscribed and will be watching more. Thank you.
Wow, thanks!
FINALLY. A video that helped me. I was so confused on how to jumble all 3 settings at once at the slightest bit of movement or light change. I think I've got it. Thank you SO much!
Glad it helped!
Thank you so much for this tutorial.
Being an amateur photographer means you are always learning.
Quite often you can understand something singular but put into practice with other variables sometime make them confusing.
Your tutorials in particular this one, helps understand the the singular and how it works in conjunction with its variables.
Every now and then the penny drops and you see the big picture, it is so enlightening. Thank you for putting it all into perspective!
Glad it was helpful!
You do a fantastic job teaching! You present things in such a way that is easy to understand. So glad I found your channel, thank you!!
You're very welcome!
I'll tell you what it is, hes dosent spend half the time waffaling on about stuff! Most videos I see they talk for ages before getting to the point, but by then my eyes have glazed over & I lose interest! Simon delves straight into it, straight talker-straight to the point.
Amazing video, I love the practical examples this is the way to learn, you tell us and then show us using real examples . Thank you so much.
Glad it was helpful!
I got a DSLR for my birthday and I haven’t used one since high school, this video jogged my memory and showed me some new things too. Thanks! 😊
Great tips for beginners like myself. Glad I found your channel. I learned so much this last couple of weeks. I'm now shooting in Manual Mode with Auto ISO. The biggest thing for me was finding out about that exposure meter and how to get it to zero. Before I didn't have a clue about that thing. Thanks so much.
You have no idea how glad I am to have found your channel. Thank you!
I'm so glad!
Been shooting photos for 2 years now love how you broke this down…thank you very much
I've always been slightly lost with these subjects. Now I'm very clear. Thank you very much. Great job, well done.
I do really appreciate this video. I just got my first camera and I’m new to photography. This video really helps me to better understand the triangule of exposure. Thanks a lot for this. I’ll feel much confident to start the journey 🙌🏼
The more I apply your tips the better and better my photos get! Thank you so much for these videos. 🙏🏼🙏🏼
I’ve just found this channel and you’re introducing me to manual photography! This video has helped me so much already and given me a lot of great content to take notes on and keep in mind. I’m also on the south shore 😊
Thanks neighbor!
This video is super helpful for explaining, ISO , Shutter Speed, and Aperture and how to treat them. Think I watched like 3 others before and this one made the most sense to me. Thank you.
Glad it was helpful!
Protect this man at all costs! Thank you!
That was the best camera tutorial video I have ever seen.
One of the best natural instructors on photography you are... I used your techniques to capture pigeons flapping (1/2000: max for RX100 mark2) and got one of the best shots I have ever taken.
I wish I could share that over here. But no option. Though it is on my insta account
Great to hear!
Omg this is the most educational video I’ve seen. I’ve watched multiple videos and still didn’t know what the heck they were talking about and how to get started using manual. Thank you ❤
An excellent teacher that can take intimidating subject matter and make it approachable to a novice. Many thanks and I look forward to many of your other videos.
I love photography, and really want to get better. I am an absolute amateur and have stumbled across this channel - amazing! I want to learn to use my camera rather than shooting in auto all the time, and this is a great video with simple explanation and the right cadence to allow the information to perculate. I'm hooked. Thank you Simon.
I have just bought a Canon R6 MII i was working through the 1000+ page manual which can be quite confusing for a beginner. Your videos are very clear and easy to follow. I've just watched 4 of your videos tonight which has saved me hours of reading. I will try shooting in manual.
Hello Sir im a dronographer from India and a mobile photographer also ..your videos helped me a lot to understand manual photography in easy way .. thanks a lot and keep posting your guidelines so that we can gain good experience from an experienced person 😊
So nice of you
@@simon_dentremont thanks for your reply Sir ❤️
Best overview of how to understand the interrelationship of the 🔺thank you so much for taking the time to make videos. Clear and to the point!
Thank you so much. At last I've got it!! I wasn't getting my manual settings right. Plenty of info out there on the 3 elements of the triangle but they weren't joining the dots up. You are the only one who has done that ... and in an easy way for amateurs like me to understand.
I wish I'd seen this video when I started taking photography more seriously. What a great explanation
Glad you enjoyed it!
Best photo educator on UA-cam, thanks Simon.
Very kind!
I really like your presentation style and content. You're just so articulate, straight to the point and academic. I wish you continued success and thank you for sharing your knowledge and work with us.
I have a REALLY hard time listening to camera jargon, so I never really have......but you sir...make it easy. Thanks!
Oh by George I think I got it!!
Thank you. This is the clearest and simplest description I've seen. Now I can effortlessly get no noise in any light.
🥳🥳🥳
Jolly good!
Excellent video, Simon. You demystify and simplify the camera settings and how they work together so wonderfully that I feel I will be able to get the shots I want. Other instructors seemed to belabor that shutter speed is changed only to capture action and never discuss how it affects light-for beginners it can be confusing. Thank you for sharing your knowledge and experience.
Glad you enjoyed it
Such a cool mentor. Much love, Sir ❤. Thank you for uplifting our souls.
I have been about to give up! I've done courses, watched videos and still I feel like I'm lousy at taking a good photo. I think I have had information overload. This video has given me hope!
I am not a person who wants to make money from photography, it's a creative outlet for me, plus I want to take family photos to create memories. You are terrific, Simon. Thank you.
Just practice and experiment with all these interesting tips Simon is showing us. It takes a little practice to learn the fundamentals of photography. Enjoy the process.
Just got my first camera. I got a canon rebal t7 I was just going to take it out and use the auto feature this weekend at a car show but decided I rather learn how to use the manual mode. This video helped me a lot.
This guy is the real teacher in photography.
Well, after watching some of your clips I am sure you are one the few who are born to teach.
Too kind!
I felt so lost trying to figure out manual settings but this video is so very helpful and informative. I feel like I can move forward with a lot more confidence now. Thank you!!
So happy to have found your channel. You're a great teacher. Very clear and easy to understand, unlike any other I've found. Thank you! 🤗
Awesome, thank you!
Really appreciate ALL of your videos and expertise!!!
This video was extremely helpful because of how thoughtfully you broke it down for a beginner like myself to more easily wrap my head around it ;)
Thank you!!!!
Thank you Simon, this video has explained the process in a way that makes sense and I will be using it going forward. These videos are so informative.
I have watched so many videos and it just wasn’t clicking for me but this video finally made me understand. Thank you so much fantastic video.☺️
Excellent explanation on how to shoot in manual
I learned photography in the analog era (i.e. last century ;-) when you had to decide if you'd put a Kodachrome 25, Kodachrome 64 or an Ektachrome 200 or even 400 into your camera. Relying on Auto-ISO took some unlearning learned habits and your tips to actually depend on Auto-ISO is excellent. Another habit to unlearn was maximizing the subject in the viewer and instead to accept cropping as a tool (which was possible for negative film, but not for slide film).
Haha I only shot film once ever!
Digital photography has certainly changed the landscape of photography from the film days.
That is perhaps the greatest feature to digital photography. Gone are the days where you had to use up a roll of film before going on to photograph something which required a different film speed.
Love your videos! Your presentation is very thorough, informative and easy to understand. Showing examples of what you’re teaching is definitely helpful in making the lesson understandable. One most know the basics of photography to create wonderful photographs. Once you know the basics then it’s practice, practice, practice.
Solid down to earth info put in a way the only Simon can do! I really enjoy these videos you are putting out! I'm so glad you came to UA-cam!
More to come!
I just learned more about shooting in manual in 10 minutes than I have in 10 years owning a DSLR. Thank you sir.
Very well explained
Thank you. I learn so much with each of your educational videos. And, it helps me move above and beyond what used to be just comfy making significant progress in my end results.
You are so welcome!
Finally, I understand these three aspects! Thank you so much! Best video I’ve seen on this.
Awesome, thank you!
What a correct explanation about manual mode,,,❤❤❤❤❤100% true.
most helpful straightforward vid i've watched so far
Fantastic video. Exactly the video I envisioned I needed. Thank you!
This. Is what I needed to hear. Thank you Simon
After a miserable start to my photography hobby this video has given me the basic information I needed to prevent me selling my equipment, thanks 👍
I have absolutely fallen in love with your videos! thank you for doing this.
Thanks Lisa!
Your a brilliant teacher. Your precise and detailed in your explanation. By sharing your experience you make photography look so easy although I know it's anything but easy. Thank you for your videos.

OMG!
This guy is great, honestly. Detailed but to the point. Thanks.
Glad you think so!
That was extremely well explained, thank you very much for this!
Just bought a 90d as my 1st camera and I’m so glad I found your extremely underrated channel! I’ve watched a lot of yt over the last few days and yours are easily the most well explained and comprehensive. Thank you so much. Also your wildlife shots are beautiful :)
THANK YOU! I just got my first real camera (old d70s for cheap). And got really confused. This video helped me very much, thank you!
I have been going through some of your tutorials, and following up on advice and it has madea big difference, thanks Linden from Australia. Watching behavioual habits of insects and birds is amazing!
Great to hear! Thanks mate.
Sometimes it is more comfortable taking the bird pictures in a P modus, but the M modus i like the most. Thanks a lot for explaining all the details.
I’ve always gone out with the mindset of finding a unique subject but your videos inspire me to approach it in a more artistic way.. I can’t wait to have time to practice
That is awesome!
Great and digestible summary of this sometimes hard to get to grips with topic.
Thank you so much for this video! It's one of the most succinct and easy to follow guides to shooting in manual I've seen. I've had a Nikon bridge camera for years and "shot" wildlife but never really got off auto mode. I'm changing my gear now and I'd like to move off auto mode and see what I really can do with a camera. Your guide is really easy to understand and I look forward to getting my new gear so I can put it all into practice.
Excellent!
Thank you so much for this clear explaining. I had a hard Time understanding how all the components were influencing each other, but il tried directly to apply the theory ans I see how it works. It’s amazing! I need so much practice still though 😅
taking notes, your explanations are super simple and nice to understand thank you
This is great for anyone regardless of level you are from beginner to professional. It's always good to sharpen skills.
I appreciate that!
Thanks. On my next photo trip, I'm going to try to get Exposure to equal zero after doing the first 3 adjustments(A, SP, and ISO).
Your explanation is awesome. Masterpiece, literally.
Wow, thank you!
Finally someone who can dumb manual mode down for normal humans. Thanks a lot Sir. It's very helpful.
Excellent video. Simple, precise and straight to the point. Thanks..
Your lecture in photography is very helpful and usefull specially for a beginner like me.
Just a wonderfully simple explanation and probably the best I've come across for understanding all the elements of manual photography setting. Thanks Simon and keep this content going.
But more birds!!!!!!
Glad it was helpful! More birds coming!
Thank you Simon. I have been watcing your videos and learning a lot . Your videos are great and to the point. Cheers.
Thanks for making this video! It is very helpful and easy to understand.
Simple and easy to understand - Thanks Simon
Thanks for this video!! That has to be the best explanation of manual mode I have yet to see! Thanks again for making it easy to follow!!
Glad you enjoyed it!
Once again an excellent tutorial. Very succinct, precise , to the point and at a great steady pace. Loved it.
Glad you liked it!
Simon thanks for the amazing video. The examples at the end and explanations are on point. Helped me out so much.
