@wizardowlgenius7186 I actually have the A7M4 and looking for a second body, travel and for wildlife, can get that extra reach. I am debating between A7Cii which is a smaller A7M4, for $2200, or go for the A6700 (better grip, better rolling shutter, 4K 60 no additional crop so 26mp vs. 14mp for cropping the 33mp) for $1400!
Bought the A6700 last year but haven't tried it out much in favour of my full frame bodies. The camera was mainly intended for Macro use (focus stacking capabilities) and for video with a budget entry to 4K 120. Now, as the majority of the pictures I take are wildlife and the full frames has been "welded" to a 600mm f/4.0 GM with 1.4x TC the swap to the A6700 didn't get me exited until I decoupled the TC and mounted the camera directly to 600 mm (900mm f/4.0 Eqv). I've been looking forward to this review! My answer on "FF or APS-C?" is Both! I use an a6600 and it's pretty difficult to give up on the extra reach for the better low light performance of a FF...so I want both. I want an a6700 and an a7CII because I like the small form factor and the better auto focus. The EVF is good enough, one card slot is enough, 10 fps is enough and even a 24 mp sensor is enough. If you do it everything right, it's crazy how much you can crop a 24 mp image. All these are good enough and make enjoying wildlife photography possible. Thanks for the review! Ohh, and the E 70-350 mm lens is amazing. I love it. Perfect light weight setup!

The a6700 is just all around an almost perfect ASPC camera, I just wish it had a slightly better LCD screen (1.8m like the XS20) and an second card slot. If it had those 2 things, I'd honestly use it for almost everything. It also has the highest dynamic range of any ASPC sensor, it's like 12.3 stops at iso 100, which is extremely good and in video it's 14 stops. As for the longer filming, Ulanzi makes a $30 fan accessory for the a6700 and it extends the filming time in 4k60 to almost 2 hours.
Yep, second card slot and that's all I could really ask for from a camera, I think. Especially now with some fast lens options like the 27mm 1.2 or 75mm f1.2 and the Sigma f1.4 range.
Sony is positioning the 6000 series as a great secondary camera for A7/9/1 owners while being a great only camera for anyone in Beginner to enthusiast user,
Great review Olle and nice footage, I recently sold my A7IV and bought an a6700 after trying it for a few months. I was looking for a light setup for travel photos and wildlife and with the Sigma 1.4 primes for APS-C and the Sony 100-400 I can have all I want in a small and light package 😁 One thing you may not know regarding when the Sony a6700 (as other mirrorless) focus on the background instead of the subject is that in the a6700 (in my Sony a7IV or Sony a9 this option don't exist) you can activate a manual focus override function that works all the time, this way, anytime you need to readjust focus while in autofocus mode, you can turn the focus ring and the a6700 changes automatically to MF until you stop moving the ring, is a great way to readjust focus manually when the camera needs a bit of help
I’m so unsure what to do. I used to own a7III paired with Sony 200-600. Loved it. I want to get another setup and I’m torn between a6700 and the a7III again. What would you do? I’ll be shooting everything. Wildlife, hiking, pets, portraits. Video and photo.
The odd number a6000 series (6700, 6500 etc ) focus more on video upgrades while retaining most/all the photography features of the previous model. With this in mind I cant wait to see what the a6800 brings us. Better IBIS, new evf, new joystick, 2 cardslots and maybe even a new higher MP sensor and an increase in fps. If sony can nail these things the a6000 line will be insane.
I have the a7iv, which is considerable older in AF design. Would like to get the same AF as the a7RV plus the occasional 4K 100p video, so this would be perfect. Especially since I will be using the same lenses (100-400 and 200-600) for this camera, same batteries, same SD cards.
I also like the fact that the 26mp is something your not against, I asked a wildlife photographer who currently uses the A1 if he planned on getting the latest A9iii with the global shutter etc, but he instantly dismissed it due to only having 24mp and said he'd said till the next version of the A1 comes along. It's each to there own and about using what equipment is right for you, but to grumble at 24mp seems silly as Canon and Nikon's top spec DSLR camera's that I believe you can still buy from new at the £5k+ price tag only come with 20mp lol
what does it mean "for fun" lol, you can easily do wildlife with that camera, and professional photography like sport or something with a7iv. Both can be done professionaly. That are different genres.
That's a great in-depth video and cover almost all the topics related to wildlife. I wanna know how's sony doing with firmware update with this a6700 ?
Thanks for the info about using the touchscreen to AF. I have an a7cii and have tried using the screen before when using the elf but it was very inconsistent and ineffective. I don't think I knew you could change the touchscreen area. It was set to Right 1/2. However I just changed this to Right 1/4 and now this works consistently and efficiently - a game changer for me.
You know what would be crazy? This camera with the 300mm f2.8 lens. That is effectively a 450mm f4 lens on a camera with crazy good AF and video capabilities and feather light and easily handheldable. Throw on a 1.4TC to make it become 630mm f5.6. Probably overheating after 3 minutes of 120fps 4k video, but oh well.
What a good video, I liked that you mentioned many things about bird photography, and I want to have that camera like the first one, instead of a phone, although I do have to save good money, greetings from Colombia!
3:56 I was a long time A6000 user, after Nex 5R and at the time, liked the usability. Mainly because of video, I am now on X-h2s and I could never ever go back to a cam with practical no buttons. If one only shoot ONE TYPE, like sports, or portraits or kids, on in ONE type of video - this could be "ok". The X-H2s has 7 (seven) custom profiles, plus several buttons, e.g. for AF mode/+ eye/animal/etc, ISO, WB, .rec etc For me this = to - 6.2 open gate - DCI 4k 60 - DCI 4K 120 - 17:9 FHD 240 - BKT photo - panorama photo - pre-capture highframerate 15-40 FPS by the click of the turn. Plus the usual PASM/video, of course
Thank you for your video and reminding me to take the camera and go outside. Cause that is the most important thing. You can have the latest gear, but it doesn't mean anything about your photos. Btw. I got the A7c II this year and it is incredible.
@@vishaakr2860 That is a tough question. Besides the Megapixel difference and the slightly better stabilisation, both cameras are very similar. I love the new C1 Button on the A7c II and I'm using it heavily. Also my Lenses are all Full Frame. If you have the budget, I would recommend the A7c II because there are more Lenses available.
@@Thomasmcse I understand. I am worried about the depth of field apsc cameras can produce, but at the same time i don’t do professional work. Tbh money isn’t the concern here. Just that i don’t want to splurge money on body, i d rather invest that in an extra lens.
I use an A7RV and I am having a hard time justifying the purchase of an a6700 because the A7RV APS-C mode is the same as the a6700. That said, I would love a smaller form factor for travel. If sony had made a 30 megapixel APS-C sensor or incorporated a stacked APS-C sensor, I would have bought it in a heartbeat. I have been thinking about a Sony 70-350 lens to save weight. I would love to see a comparison between the 70-350 and 100-400 GM on a 6700.

You are by far my favorite photography content creator. Your videos are just relaxing. Very chill. Would love to go on a shoot with you once. Edit: Also i can help with the video, have a panasonic, the auto focus is bad.
As your most likely aware I'd imagine quality, especially with noise is going to depend on the glass too, if your using good quality G master glass etc should be better than using cheaper glass. I started on the a6000 and still have but rarely use these days mainly due to the rubber grip coming off it at the side and the batteries life with the old style batteries and the smaller grip. I just came back off holiday and took my old cheapish Tamron 18-200 vc apsc lens, and even in the sun of Spain some images look a bit noisy due to it only using the central part of my sensor on my a7iii. I would consider this as a replacement for the a7iii at some point as I'm just a hobbyist and the extra reach would be welcome especially on my 70_200 and 150_600 sigma sport lenses. Great video as always.
Fantastic video Olle. I loved the opening sequence 👏🏽👏🏽🔥 🔥 🔥 I'm really impressed. If you do another brand comparison, please go for Nikon - they offer the best range of long lenses & Sony need to up their game (or Sigma will do it for them 🤣)
I am using the A6700 with the new Sigma 500 5.6, and it is an amazing lightweight combo. The IQ is outstanding and the AF a dream. You have to try the combo yourself sometime :)
Really can't decide between the A7iv and the A6700 at the moment to get with the 200-600mm Sony lens. Which has the best autofocus and is one SD port really a problem? Thanks
For landscape photography with this camera, what lens would you recommend? Could the Sony FE 16-35mm f/4 ZA OSS Vario Tessar T be good? If that's OK, do I also need to buy an adapter? ...Or could you recommend something else (even cheaper)?
Great video! I have the Sony Alpha 6300 and the Tamron 150-500 mm and i really can't decide between this and the 7IV. My main problem with the 6300 is its poor light performance because I cant go higher than Iso 6400. How big of a difference was it in the test? If you could only have one camera for everything would you go with this or the 7IV?

I don't think I knew you could change the touchscreen area. It was set to Right 1/2. However I just changed this to Right 1/4 and now this works consistently and efficiently - a game changer for me.
I would love to see what type of images you could do using the sony a6400 that would be amazing... great video as usual 👌
Your videos are always amazing and informative .
Thank you so much!!🙏🏻

I was a long time A6000 user, after Nex 5R and at the time, liked the usability.
Mainly because of video, I am now on X-h2s and I could never ever go back to a cam with practical no buttons. If one only shoot ONE TYPE, like sports, or portraits or kids, on in ONE type of video - this could be "ok".
The X-H2s has 7 (seven) custom profiles, plus several buttons, e.g. for AF mode/+ eye/animal/etc, ISO, WB, .rec etc
For me this = to
- 6.2 open gate
- DCI 4k 60
- DCI 4K 120
- 17:9 FHD 240
- BKT photo
- panorama photo
- pre-capture highframerate 15-40 FPS
by the click of the turn.
Plus the usual PASM/video, of course
Thank you for your video and reminding me to take the camera and go outside. Cause that is the most important thing. You can have the latest gear, but it doesn't mean anything about your photos. Btw. I got the A7c II this year and it is incredible.
Hey man, congrats on the camera!
Im confused between a6700 and a7cii, do you think that 800$ difference is worth?
I always get amazed with your shots and storytelling but man, i instantly fell in love within a few seconds with this one. It is just something else, something special i feel. 🤍
also because of the music choice, the flute ahhh like an Indian classic
Beautiful camera 📷
WOW! Amazing Sony A6700 🫰📸
You are by far my favorite photography content creator. Your videos are just relaxing. Very chill. Would love to go on a shoot with you once.
Edit: Also i can help with the video, have a panasonic, the auto focus is bad.
I appreciate that so much, thank you for watching my stuff!
@@ollenilssonen Did you ever test the Sony A7RV for wildlife? Do you think it might be worth it?
@@outlawmonkey actually have it right here as we speak.
So far, amazing camera!
@@ollenilssonen Nice, looking forward to see a video with it! :)
if u using the 200-600 then might as well get a FE body
would like to hear ur experience w/ an APS-C lens
I've put AEL lock onto C1 button. Almost every button on a6700 is customizeable, so no biggie
Gorgous, just perfect. Just a question, would a A7 III do as good as this camera? From your opinion
Not for autofocus but better in low light.
Is this a huge upgrade over Sony A6600
Hey Olle, I love your videos and I was wondering if you could do a video with the Sony A7CII.
fr id love to see that also
What sd did you run on this camera
Nice Video, I definitely want to try this camera and I'm looking forward to you checking out other camera brands and your opinion on them...
Hey! I have a question for u.. is the Topaz Denoise actually better than the Lightroom one?
Fantastic video Olle. I loved the opening sequence 👏🏽👏🏽🔥 🔥 🔥 I'm really impressed. If you do another brand comparison, please go for Nikon - they offer the best range of long lenses & Sony need to up their game (or Sigma will do it for them 🤣)
I am using the A6700 with the new Sigma 500 5.6, and it is an amazing lightweight combo. The IQ is outstanding and the AF a dream. You have to try the combo yourself sometime :)
Must be a dream!!
Keep in mind that putting that lens on the A7IV will reduce the magnification by 1.5 times, but you'll get about 1.5 stops of noise/DR improvement.
Are you sponsored bu Arcteryx or something ? You have a LOT of different jackets from them :O :)
Been looking at that brand but its hella expensive here in Denmark.
Haha I wish, I really enjoy their clothing. But no, they are not sponsoring me :)
@@ollenilssonen Yeah they arent really cheaper in Sweden compared to Denmark which is really strange, cause most clothes are so cheap in Sweden compared to here.
But thanks 👌
Hi, I would like to start my adventure with wildlife photography. I used Nikon before, some time ago I had the opportunity to use Sony a6500 while hiking in the mountains and I really liked working with it. I am asking for advice whether I should choose Sony A7 III or A6700. I will be grateful for your help!
For wildlife I'd choose the 6700. Extra reach and way better focus.
Which camera and lens was used in this video ?
9:00 somehow i love that noise effect 😅 ❤
