I just finished student teaching - my first placement (Year 1; 6 year olds) and I had the BEST mentor ever. She helped me so much and was so kind (I already miss my practicum/placement, my mentor, my TA the kids so much)
after watching this video and reading the comments I feel like my University is a lot tougher than most.. we have tick lists which include what we have to achieve each week, observations in other classes, observations in your base class, pupil profile children (6), intervention groups, a % each week of whole class teaching, school based tasks on top of all the paperwork and the marking and the planning and the meetings etc. I have just completed my final year of my degree and have been to 5 different placements, each with different experiences with mentors. This video (and channel) is an amazing resource for those starting their teacher training! I am kicking myself for not finding it sooner and using the advice! Good luck to all those watching that are starting on this journey, it’s the hardest but most rewarding degree! And I am excited to move forward onto my NQT year😇🥰
Wow you’re channel is amazing! I’m a first year undergrad (BA History) but I’ve always known I want to a primary school teacher. You’re channel is definitely keeping me motivated to work hard and look forward to experiencing all this!
Thank you so much for leaving such a positive comment. Messages like this really make me smile! When will you start your PGCE? Had any thoughts about where to take it? X
I really appreciate you taking the time to leave this comment. It helps me to know which videos are being well received by you all 💕 thank you for the support and have an amazing week!
For Teachers I'll be taking my PGCE at Greenwich University, it's a non-salaried schools direct program with Royal Greenwich Teaching School Alliance (RGTSA).
How timely you posted this video! I’m staring my placement with year 1 tomorrow. Your video was very helpful and encouraging. I think it’s so true it’s important to focus on improving ourselves rather than striving for perfection:) x
Thank you for leaving such a lovely comment! I'm so happy the video has helped to support you. Is this your final placement? I really hope you have a positive experience on your Year 1 placement 😍
I start my last block placement tomorrow. my first teaching placement was in year 3 and I did a 3 week 'alternative setting' placement in a secondary school. However, i'll be teaching Year 1s for the next 9 weeks and i'm so nervous because I've realised my strengths in teaching are with older children. thanks for this video
I’m exactly like you! I had older placements then was suddenly hit with Year 1... it didn’t make me want to teach younger but I definitely learnt a lot on that placement too. Soak up the experience and look forward to having your own older class after it finishes! Good luck and message me if you need anything x
Hello, Thanks for sharing. I've teaching for 5 years, and i'll like to take a step futher to begin my teacher training. I'm from Nigeria and I'm currently in Nigeria. Please help.
Hi Katie. This video has been very helpful, as I am starting a teacher training course in September. Is there any way you could make a video about tips for preparing yourself for this type of course? I have planned to go back on work experience for college in around a months time, so I just wondered if there are any ways I can improve myself to prepare for the course. Thank you! x
Hello! I have just made a video about tips for before you start teaching so hopefully it will help you too. I’m aiming to upload it on Sunday ☺️ thank you for leaving a comment and good luck with the course! Where are you taking it? X
I'm starting a School Direct PGCE in September in Primary Education. I don't know which school i'll be at, or which year I will be teaching first, but I'm really excited to start. I am also extremely nervous about it/worried that I won't do very well, but I have lots of classroom experience so I'm hoping it'll work out okay!
You already have a massive advantage with lots of classroom experience! I don’t think I had any when I started my teacher training (other than a bit of volunteering / observation) I think you’ll do great! Where will you be studying? I went to Sheffield Hallam for my training ☺️
@@ForTeachersChannel I'll be doing mine with Sheffield Hallam too, and will be in KS1 for my first placement. I'm now just trying to get everything prepared and spend time relaxing before I start.
Greetings! I was teaching Physics at the secondary school level here in my country (Venezuela) for 12 years, and I wanted to know how can I go about finding a course to become an A-Level Physics teacher. I was looking up on the internet, and I couldn't find any information about it. Could you help me out on this, please? Thanks!
