    This could be life-changing for so many people. You look badass like RoboCop. I would imagine it's quite expensive. Hopefully, insurance will get on board.

    • @Xenerus
      @Xenerus 4 роки тому +1

      Well, it should. It's not his fault, that he can't walk properly. So insurance has to pay.

      @@Xenerus See, that's how it SHOULD be, but time and time again insurance does tend to claim disability treatment as cosmetic. I know I have seen people that can't afford prosthetics because their insurance would say, " We will cover a wheelchair, but your prosthetic is a cosmetic choice".

    This is SUPER cool and SUPER exciting. I'm really interested to see what the bespoke one looks like, how much smaller and lighter it is, and what exercises will help strengthen back and core for standing that haven't been able to be used as much.
    I think it'll be most interesting to see if this increases mobility and options...*without* increasing pain over the rest of the day and the days following.
    You did GREAT. And that poor woman, "Hold one of the rails, please..." and you going along and just, well, NOPE.

    Technology is a wonderful thing. I remember hearing about "robot legs" when scientists were first starting to experiment with this kind of tech. It's amazing to see how far the tech has come in just a few years and honestly brought a few tears to my eyes, when the music started and you were walking around with it outside. Just IMAGINE where this kind of tech is in a couple of decades and the possibilities it can provide for people who need it!

    pretty cool, will be interested to know how you feel in recovery after. I always feel like these sort of trials are pretty artificial. When I was getting power wheels for my chair the company was happy enough to loan me a chair with the wheels for a weekend which was really cool to be able to run it through it’s paces completely. If something like that is possible I recommend it. It’s hard to find the problems something could have when the situation is so guided by someone selling it. Better to know what the issues are ahead of time and make a fully informed decision if you can.

    • @bluedeva

      You are so right, it’s always best to be able to wear it for a couple of days out in the real world rather than a controlled setting. It’s similar with prosthetic legs as soon as you get home you realise the setting needs tweaking so you have to go back in to the prosthetists. 🙄 Have to say it looks fantastic though 🤗🤗

  • @bluedeva
    @bluedeva 4 роки тому +23

    Welcome to cyborg club 🥳🥳🥳 It works so similar to my prosthetic leg with stance control, gyroscope, resistance and roll over with the foot. You’r gait is so good and I’m sure will get more natural to you the more you use it. I can imagine it does feel heavy and will zap your energy levels but you will get used to it. So so happy for you Richard have to say watching you gave me goosebumps 😭😭😭 🤗🦿🤗

  • @andrewcrow-roberts5286
    @andrewcrow-roberts5286 4 роки тому +40

    Excellent progress! I had to try the earlier prototype. I think they call it The Frankenstein. It was heavy too. But I feel like it’s roughly the same weight of what my old muscle mass was in my leg before and I didn’t think about that back then. You’ll likely forget that you have it on if you get the custom one made for you. Gerry helped me out a lot too. Rethinking the basics of walking. Almost like being a toddler but with an engineer as a coach instead of parents. I really hope this works out for you and this can happen. I’m on month 2 with my fitted C-Brace. It makes a world of difference. And it doesn’t weight as much. The one thing I can suggest... make sure you get good shoes. You’ll have to have two different size shoes for when you wear the C-Brace. I went straight from the VA to the shoe store and got new shoes to celebrate... and added a lift to the opposite foot to keep me forward on my toes. That whole... “feel like you’re falling forwards” helps. Best wishes! Keep rocking forward and upward!

    I am so thrilled for you that this equipment is working for you.I know in my situation I will never be able to walk upright, but if you can that I feel so happy for you. I am rodded from S1up to T9 (Ithink) with 2 sets of rods connected so I am permanently bent over and fall a lot even with a walker, so I went to a seating clinic for an ultralight wheelchair so I can have some freedom on my own, but as usual health Ins. said nope because they bought me a "lightweight wheelchair" that weighs in at 47 pounds and wont even fit in the back of my car, and I can't lift it. SO after 4 years of being a prisoner at home I am continuing to be one. There are too many people who fall through the cracks when it comes to DME and it disgusts me. But watching you get out and doing things does lift my spirits. I just don't get why they wont get me the wheelchair I need, One I can handle and one that doesn't hurt me. I have contacted so many places that say they will help, but because I live in the US they said nope. What happened to taking care of people at home? Social security turned me down, local help turned me down, it makes you feel like you don't matter anymore. I was also not impressed that the doctor I was sent to for my SS eval. was not in a handicapped building. The handicapped parking was at a set of 10 steps. What a load of crap.
    But you keep going. You are awesome, as well is Gemma (Wheels No Heels). Love both you guys and I have learned so much.

After 3 months, I was no longer able to walk more than a few steps without the brace. After giving up wearing the brace, it took me 6 months to build strength back up.
