I was abandoned by my dad at age 7.
We didn't know why he left so abruptly until we learned he was cheating on my mom, and he abandoned us in order to raise the son he had with his mistress, whom he married shortly after his divorce to my mom was finalized. Dad always wanted a son, but my birth had complications and mom had to get a hysterectomy.
Last I heard, he's had two more sons since then with the same woman, and they're all living happily together in another state. According to his Facebook page, he loves those boys more than he ever loved me. I honestly doubt at this point that he even remembers I exist.
If the love you're willing to give your child depends entirely on its gender, you don't deserve to be a father.

As a girl who grew up with a father that always begged for a boy, it hurts...really bad. I'm not saying it's particularly bad to want a specific gender or that a parent should be hated for it, but I know how bad it can make the child feel. I understand that most dads will come to love their daughters once she's born, but I do urge that they take a step back and just appreciate the gift they are given. For me, I found myself very uncomfortable with being a girl for a long time, and it was not easy to come to terms with the way I was because I always knew that my dad didn't want a daughter, and that I would never be good enough for him. At the end of the day, take a step back and don't think too much about what you will have because gender won't completely determine personality. If you wanted to play sports with a boy, play with your girl like so, introduce her to things that excite you so that it may open her eyes to it, and you may find out you have more in common than you know. The same would apply for a boy. A child is neither the mother nor father, but their own person. Everyone has their own problems and hardships, so you never know what you may experience while rasing either gender. If I have a child, I know it doesn't matter to me what gender they are, as long as they live a happy and healthy life. But anyway, good video.

From my experience as an older brother of 3 girls I was raised quite differently, and this is completely accurate.

When I was being raised: *Watching 18+ movies, slowly becoming his mini bartender, being trusted with more info than my mom, playing video games with my dad and his friends, having to be smart in order to avoid 1950s style beatdowns, etc*

@@archiea6681 I think that it was odd, but I learned many things in life that seriously benefited me. It definitely made a bit bitter to my sisters but I can see why my parents did what they did. If I did have a child, it wouldn't really matter to me if it was a son or a daughter. After all, times have changed drastically since I was young.
My life was practically the same😂. I think it comes down to dads seeing themselves in you and having an idea of the male experience and and your general psyche and capabilities so they expect more from you because they remember their own childhood.
Whereas with daughters they see them as something precious to protect because they know first hand how men treat woman and generally just being ignorant about the girl experience so they don’t know where your limit is. They never risk putting on you more than you handle and they make life as easy for you as possible . Even Men who treat woman like trash treat their daughters like queens.
I do wonder how much of that was because you were a boy and how much of that was because you were the oldest.

Fr tho girl dads r the best. Dad is constantly trying to look out for me and always has my back in ways i never expected. Plus he has people to laugh at his corny freaking jokes. Mom sis and I appreciate everything he does.
