A380 crosses the threshold at a sedate 140 knots. And touches down at around 130 knots.
So, very slowly, in fact, and a slow deceleration over 20 seconds results in a very soft touchdown and slowdown.

Thank you so much for the amazing insights - awesome look! 😍🎉We have been to a German airport (Leipzig/Halle) at night lately - and it was so exciting meeting all the people doing the nightshifts there and getting insights you normally do not have as a passenger. 🙂

Great landing, smooth as silk. Too bad these beasts were discontinued. I love these planes.

This was very interesting and very informative video. Now, I have a great understanding why it sometimes takes a long time to get to the terminal after landing. You earned a new subscriber.

A long way to the terminal! I recall being on the runway at the Honolulu Airport and taking 15 mins or so to get to the threshold for take-off! The Captain advised us that we were going to fly to Sydney, eventually!

😅 "Eventually." Honolulu and Sydney I've not travelled to. Likely won't. Enjoyed my first international flight - at age 65- last September. Washington DC (IAD) to Vienna, Austria on Austrian Airlines.

We just had a near miss at JFK on exactly the same runway and taxi area. Great to see how complicated it is at night and how you still have to be at a high concentration level even after landing to negotiate this part of JFK.

How nice with the city lights and instrument lighting! Makes me think of the landings my U.S.A.F. made. Only he piloted the C-5 Galaxy. Not as modern as the Airbus and certainly more "badass" noisy as this was when they were equipped with the legendary TF-39s'.Was one helluva mean, scream'n giant⚠️

Such a vast maze to negotiate. This is how fog closes airports. It's nothing to do with landing or taking off - planes can manage that relatively easily in foggy conditions; it's finding their way around on the ground that's the problem. And it's not hard to see why.

Getting towed in is a good deal as a pilot. Connected to the tug is the only time you are not responsible if you hit something.
