This is my dream job. Your Instagram and now UA-cam channel have really inspired me to try sewing historical costumes as a possible job instead of just a personal hobby!
Definitely! It's fun to be able to find your own niche and how to be able to make money with it. Takes time and dedication, but it's so worth it. I am so glad my IG and UA-cam are so inspiring to you. :)
I started sewing at 67 and never missed a day sewing and wonderful Cassandra is really feeding my novice mind with Invaluable knowledge toward Australian Colonial costume Regards from Australia
Thank you for telling us your story. I found it very interesting. I think your dresses are beautiful and although I don't make historical costumes, I'm really enjoying seeing how they are made.
I am about to graduate from grad school only to realize i actually want to be a seamstress. I love this video of how you got to where you are. Please keep posting more tutorials cause I cant go back to school!
Thank you so much for telling your story. It was not only inspiring but also motivating. I have a similar self learning path as yours. I do think I am highly skilled, however always felt the label "self-taught" brought my value down. You just crushed that theory and I am so glad you did. May God continue to bless you and your business.
So glad I was able to encourage you! I’m starting to realize how a lot of people are appreciating the experience rather than the papers that say we are “qualified”. Being self taught in my opinion is so much more valuable! May God bless you in your endeavors as well!
Your story is really inspirational. Thank you. I too am self taught, hopefully my skills will carry on with practice getting better. Greetings from North Wales UK 😊
I love your story. I was self taught like you, but I did want to become a fashion desiger. I have made a lot of designes I'm getthing there. Thank you for sharing. :o)
Oh I love the bloopers!!! You are the cutest lol. Thanks for sharing your story, always fun to know how another seamstress found their love for sewing 🧵 ✂️. Would you mind sharing where you get your historical patterns? I’ve done the Edwardian / Victoria era things but thinking to try my hand at the 1800’s / civil war era now after you showing the how to on cartridge pleats !
I'd be happy to share some patterns! I love the Laughing Moon patterns. They have a great 1860s corset pattern as well as an 1860s dress pattern that are so helpful! I purchased my hoop on eBay, but I hope to make my own someday. :)
Thank you so much,,, will check them out!! I do have hoops due to my bridal/prom sewing and alterations but good to know if I need more. Again thank you and many blessings.
Hi Tailorette. i like you.I learnt how sew at a young age. i now sew more for therapy as i live with PTSD(exfirey). its my art therapy. i sew everything from Leotards to Tutu's. lycra to couture tutu's I also work pants and cloths for my wife and daughter. nothing beats well fitted pair of pants or jacked.
Love this. The video was very inspirational. I am in my 60's and have wanted to start sewing and maybe supplement my income. I have thought about buying a serger. Do you use a serger or do you perfect the seams with the sewing machine
School isn't for everyone. Learning a trade can be just as (and sometime more) lucrative than plodding away at a degree that may or may not pay off in the end. I wish they did a better job of communicating that to high schoolers and taught them about entrepreneurship.
Getting an education isn’t just about earning money. America has one of the worst state education systems in the developed world. It’s underfunded for a reason.
Hi , thank you so much this was really inspiring! Can I ask how do you manage a daily routine, do you sew at certain times of the day or sew on certain days of the week? Just getting back into sewing after many years and struggling to find the right routine! 🙂
Hello! Good question. 🙂 I like to sew on certain days of the week so I can stay focused on one task. Then I’ll set aside a day to do other things unrelated to sewing. However, right now I’m videoing the first half of my day and editing them on the second half. Hope that answers your question 🙂
I just found you on UA-cam. The red silk box pleat skirt hooked me. You mentioned just briefly that you used manikins for sizing. Do you mean you have purchased manikins in different sizes, that you fit your garments that you sell? Thank you, in advance.
You are adorable and cute and people want to hear what you have to say. Just turn the background music down. I had to rewind a couple of times because it was too loud to catch what you were saying.
“Let your motivation teach you” is such natural and wise advice!

I am in my fifties and want to learn to sew. Did you teach yourself or take classes? How is your sewing journey now?

So glad this was inspirational! I do use a server, however, before I had one I used the French seams method.
