It's very interesting to see sooooooo many elderly Japanese people milling about, checking out the different stores and stalls. I have a good life in Texas. I married at 20 and had 2 children by 25 and at 52 I'm still married to the same girl and were doing well. But I must say that I really envy people like you guys. I've been in the same city my whole life and have done nothing but work my whole life and haven't really been anywhere at all. I guess I'm really not much different than a Japanese salary man. I love my wife kids and grand daughter but I really wish I had done something more exciting, profound, adventurous with my life. Alas, I'm stuck living vicariously through people like you guys but I really would have loved having a life like you guys. Thanks for inviting us along the journey and letting us into your life.
BornTexan ! Japan is dealing with a crisis with elderlies and not enough marriages, look up how it's affecting the country, and people should travel and experience life whenever they can, stop waiting around, people who wait until retirement are met with health issues and can't travel even if they have the time and money
> I love my wife kids and grand daughter but I really wish I had done something more exciting, profound, adventurous with my life. This right here is where you're shortsighted. Your family is the exciting, profound adventure that your life wanted.
Wow! I already thought this guy was one cool customer, and then I discovered he's the voice of Spring Man from ARMS? What an awesome dude. As an aspiring voice actor who also wants to live for a little while in Japan at some point, this video was pretty motivational. So cool that he's your friend. (Not that you're not cool yourself, John.)
I left my home 14 years ago and never looked back, but from the moment I cane to japan, from the 1 st minute I knew it would become my next place to stay! U just feel it! It’s all cool to find out on a better base how you guys came and it all started So I’ll go and teach English? Hahaha Thx for the great stream today! Njoyed that And always good to see Peter Von God to join!!!!! Cheers buddy’s
Man Your videos really bring back memories of growing up there in the 80's because my dad worked for Intel. First stint in Tsukuba and the second in Nozawa. I was obsessed with skateboarding at Komazawa park almost every day. I just can't believe how well you could eat for so cheap still. Still talk to a couple of old ASIJ friends.
Growing up in the 80s must have been amazing! I think this area hasn’t changed so much - certainly people have stayed the same despite getting older. I’ll try to hit some other Tokyo neighborhoods like this. We came to answer a question but these videos are a lot more for others. Just seeing the scenery around is so cool. If I had edited this video, I’d have skipped a lot of the parts that people are most curious about. It why I really like this live format.
And to think.. I have friends who have never left home yet and have no desire to. Same with travel.... some of my American friends are quite unaware that other people/places exist... thats an exaggeration but you get my meaning. To hear you two talking about being so independent and making things happen.. it's refreshing! Thanks Guys
John, you make Japan so desirable than it already is even my little girl now saying she wants to live in Japan when she grows up 😂 Mama can only say “I will always have your back, baby!” 😅
Thank you for this really interesting live-stream (though I am only catching it now). I have just booked my flights for 2019 to come back to Japan for six weeks (fourth time, I can't keep away) and now my aim is to fill in the plans for the days in between. Guess what? Thanks to you I have just put this shopping street on my list! Being a pensioner myself I should fit right in here 😄
Bro, you remind me of Ralph Macchio lol. BTW, your channel is awesome. I went to Tokyo last October and I love and respect the Japanese culture. You're very inspirational and I would like to experience living in a foreign country, preferably Japan. Keep up the great content!
Thanks for this nice stream. It is quite moving and I appreciated your own sharing memories. You both are extremely likable people and it is sweet to know you a little better through these cool and sunny wanderings. Just thank you guys.
I'm trying to stream everyday in March but it's actually been hard! I have to think of ideas and angles that are new - it's a really nice challenge! I'll be streaming all day this Saturday by the way!
Thank you much for sharing. Am living Japan vicariously through you. One day I will visit... bucket list for me. Looking forward to all your future vlogs!
I didn't know you could get melonpan in so many different varieties! I had the plain one in Asakusa and when I was in Hakodate I had one with ice-cream which was to die for! (Perhaps because I had been walking the streets for hours and was so hungry!) Maybe you can answer my question? The melonpan place was called something like "the second best place in Japan''. So do you know which is the FIRST?
This was very interesting, especially hearing the old experiences in Japan. When I first came to Japan, none of the convenience stores carried tofu. When I asked my Japanese friends "why?", they looked at me blankly, and said that no one would want to buy tofu at a convenience store - ha!
Yo John and peter awesome see u too one again btw my countries president is in Japan now yay nice to see JP and my country been friendly Cheers 🥂 From me
Hey, back in 1982 we had pay phones in the house. Those big honkin' pink pay phones and you had to put money into them to make a call. And no foreigner could get one so it was a real treat to go to someone's house who had a pay phone instead of getting dressed and standing out in the cold to make a call. And I lived in Sugamo too. They had a video store called "CD and VD" that was a hoot. Nice park too, Rikugi-en I think. Good times.
I lived in Kyushu for two years (1989~1990), and I remember ATMs shutting off every day an hour after the banks closed (around 6 pm)!!! 😩 On the other hand, I could insert my account ledger (手帳) into the ATM, and it would PRINT the transaction out on it when I was finished. 😁
I watched John's live streams with Kanae and Leo, binge watched more Only in Japan Go live streams and got to this one. 6:00 surely put a smile on my face.
Right!! There was only 1 net cafe in all of Aichi prefecture (Nagoya) and it was 1500 yen for 1 hour plus a coffee to get online and send email. That was in 1998-1999!! I went back to see if it was still in business but of course it was gone. In 2000 I had a DELL laptop and connected the laptop to the phone jack at grey public phone booths. I have an amazing phone card collection! They had lovely images of Japan on them.
YES!! I ate this a few weeks ago too. Okay, you know what, I may try to live stream it. I'm going that way tomorrow around 3pm-5pm. If not, will def be back for another melon pan. It's always hot out of the oven there.
Mr. Peter has the looks, persona plus voice to be a walk-in actor in a Hollywood action thriller and even a western. No script needed .. just ad lib. Consider it.
I'm not sure if someone checked what's written on subtitle but melon pan was written so many ways like melon pond, minimum pond, etc. You know pan in Japanese means bread. Wonder how that got to be pond????
Yes!! I was really upset that people were killing the stream with that Telugu symbol. I'll be back there tomorrow but not sure if I'll stream it yet. I'll def get Peter on the horn and see if we can visit that area when the temperature is a little more moderate.
You're still in Japan because you're not like the weebs who thinks of Japan as a "wonderland" but a real country with real people & real life struggles. 20 years in a very hardworking & fast-paced country like Japan is impressive John. 💪👍
It sort of why I didn't understand why people were calling me a weaboo. (I didn't know what it meant mostly. haha) I'm not trying to be anyone different or live in a fantasy land -- it's just an amazing place to call home. Most long term residents I know are just like people that you'd meet at home but they speak Japanese and just live their life like everyone else here. I spent the first 7 years in smaller cities and the countryside so it wasn't so fast paced but now? WOW!!! It's moving light speed with loads of ups and downs. Can't wait to write a book about it :)
>You're still in Japan because you're not like the weebs who thinks of Japan as a "wonderland" but a real country with real people & real life struggles. This. Many of the weebs also don't realize (or maybe they do and just don't acknowledge it) that Japan is Japan because of its introverted state. It's highly unique because of this.
Jealous, but I enjoyed the video. It’s remarkable, we can just leave, find a foreign land, and settle down. I really respect that. I tried to get to England for years to write for a bike mag but failed spectacularly. Apparently I can’t write... pff. Sub’d
we don't say hand-made beer in usa, we say craft beer- the usual pasteurized stuff is terrible :) I saw his channel. I do not use chat, I always turn it off.
You've both been there for twenty years and I expect to see you both old grey using a walkers and still in Japan. Well one of you grey as it were HA HA..

Oh, he’s still in his home - I hope!! Now I’m worried 😆 we both loved in small places when we arrived and worked hard to grow here, build roots. Nothing happens fast in Japan. It’s slow and steady and sure.
That is a great question!! I think he answered a little but we’ll get deeper when we talk about it again - our jobs. He did voice work in the US before coming here but his career took off here. Peter was born to voice over stuff :)
My first night in Tokyo, a Japanese gentleman asked me if I was still having problems with Indians and how many head of cattle did I have. I'm guessing times have changed from 1969 and 2018. Not all Texans have cattle ranches.
Haha! The stereotypes are still there but not to the same extreme. I remember passing through Dallas Airport and the gift shop items were either cowboy images, hats, boots or NFL goods from ... the Cowboyws :) It's still a cool image but not the reality.
HI John It seems to me from this and other videos that living in japan is basically all about the search for food. I'm sure Jennifer would agree with me. Interestingly I put a recent post on a travel board where I asked the question as to whether people visiting Japan for a week or two end up losing weight and the majority of replies said that indeed they lost a couple of kilograms despite eating a lot of very nice food. So perhaps going to diet groups like Weight Watchers or Jenny Craig is a waste of money and people should just go to Japan instead. I don't see many fat people (sumo wrestlers aside) in Japan.

BornTexan ! Only 52? That is not old! Where there's a will there's a way.
Good luck to you
You just changed my life man.
BornTexan ! Your family is the exciting, profound adventure that your life wanted.

Right, ARMS is the game. I once asked Peter to fight himself :P it was so funny!!
Thanks!
I left my home 14 years ago and never looked back, but from the moment I cane to japan, from the 1 st minute I knew it would become my next place to stay! U just feel it!
It’s all cool to find out on a better base how you guys came and it all started
So I’ll go and teach English?
Hahaha
Thx for the great stream today! Njoyed that

That's not cheap.. 190JPY is the cost of the local version of yakisoba + a glass of tea here :)
John, thank you for your videos.
Keep going
And to think.. I have friends who have never left home yet and have no desire to. Same with travel.... some of my American friends are quite unaware that other people/places exist... thats an exaggeration but you get my meaning.

Thanks guys, it's really enjoyable to see a day in the lives of John and Peter.
Nice watching this 3 years later, and you have a family and all now
Bro, you remind me of Ralph Macchio lol. BTW, your channel is awesome. I went to Tokyo last October and I love and respect the Japanese culture. You're very inspirational and I would like to experience living in a foreign country, preferably Japan. Keep up the great content!
glad you live in Japan for 20 years
Me too :) love and respect 🇯🇵
Thanks for this nice stream. It is quite moving and I appreciated your own sharing memories. You both are extremely likable people and it is sweet to know you a little better through these cool and sunny wanderings. Just thank you guys.
Hi, John happy to see you every day, its become my treasure time after school
I'm trying to stream everyday in March but it's actually been hard! I have to think of ideas and angles that are new - it's a really nice challenge! I'll be streaming all day this Saturday by the way!
Always a pleasure to watch.

Living in japan for 26 yrs and im loving it :)
I lived in Fukuoka for 5 years. And I wanted to live there forever.
Holy crap! He’s the title call guy!! Now that’s an Easter egg in the OIJ world.
I love your channels and thank you for introducing us to your friends and their channels.
It definitely looks better than Harajuku! I love exploring living museums! 👍 💖 🙏 😊 ✌️
This was very interesting, especially hearing the old experiences in Japan. When I first came to Japan, none of the convenience stores carried tofu. When I asked my Japanese friends "why?", they looked at me blankly, and said that no one would want to buy tofu at a convenience store - ha!
Yo John and peter awesome see u too one again btw my countries president is in Japan now yay nice to see JP and my country been friendly Cheers 🥂 From me
I love Japan too. Almost everything
Peter in John in a store messing around equals classic!

Thanks for your video i also watch your episodes. Very educational. Pls continue your work.😊

In 2002 in Osaka we had to go to the net cafe to get our internet :) It was kind of nice not to be connected all the time!
Right!! There was only 1 net cafe in all of Aichi prefecture (Nagoya) and it was 1500 yen for 1 hour plus a coffee to get online and send email. That was in 1998-1999!! Thanks xD for all the footage these years, I thank you for what you do Bro.
I'm thankfull 4 real.
The best melon pan you can buy is at a little bakery on Nishinaka-dori, Tsukishima.
People are queing all day long there, that good!
YES!! I ate this a few weeks ago too. Okay, you know what, I may try to live stream it. I'm going that way tomorrow around 3pm-5pm. If not, will def be back for another melon pan. It's always hot out of the oven there.
Nice! Thank you John for both of your reactions!
Yes but 190JPY.. that would be the cost of I guess the local version of yakisoba and a glass of tea here :)
I’m sorry I missed this when it was live. We stayed in Sugamo in February. We walked this exact area and ate at the Tulley’s in the video.
It’s a cool place to stay!! That Tully’s is in the center - nice little hang out.
ONLY in JAPAN * GO Agreed. We really liked the area.
17:00 "You're gonna be a good dad" haha kinda funny coincidence watching this now 3 years later when John just became a dad few days ago :D
It's a smiling face john and a plug in for power
Terri DuMont they’re auto generated subtitles by a computer :p but melon pond sounds - kind of depressing. Hahaha!
By the way, are you both yet going to get on to the Tsukishima-Kachidoki live stream some time?
Yes!! I was really upset that people were killing the stream with that Telugu symbol. I'll be back there tomorrow but not sure if I'll stream it yet. I'll def get Peter on the horn and see if we can visit that area when the temperature is a little more moderate.

why are you calling people weebs
>You're still in Japan because you're not like the weebs who thinks of Japan as a "wonderland" but a real country with real people & real life struggles.
This.
Many of the weebs also don't realize (or maybe they do and just don't acknowledge it) that Japan is Japan because of its introverted state. It's highly unique because of this.
Love your videos, tell Peter I just subscribed. Tina from the big island of Hawaii
Why are we still here?
*Just to suffer*
I am from Portland, too. Japan is a better place to live. Much less civil unrest.
Yes, Japan is a good country to live in. If I moved to Japan, I would definitely stay in Japan as long as John did.
Glad to see the gaijins in one of the famous streets in Tokyo besides Takesita dori(Harajuku.)
Cool stream!
Jealous, but I enjoyed the video. It’s remarkable, we can just leave, find a foreign land, and settle down. I really respect that. I tried to get to England for years to write for a bike mag but failed spectacularly. Apparently I can’t write... pff. Sub’d
This area reminds me a little of some of the smaller street markets in Amsterdam. Different food on offer, of course..
Cool Ray Bans, Peter! John should get some Maui Jims (He would look good in the Makaha!)
I like peter he is a fun guy
Superb as always , top fellas as we say in 🇬🇧 🍻
Another great video. You could, and maybe should, spend an hour or two on this topic. Plus I just found out you went to Ohio Sate the same time I did
Be careful Jyoji is a up and coming you tuber
Great thumbnail 👍
I heard that the population in Japan is decreasing. Why is that? Is that a good thing or a bad thing for Japan long term?
Katie Harris do your own research, UA-cam has the answer too
Peter must change his scooter to true chopper immediately!
Hahahahaha!!! I will pass the message along!
Thanks a lot! And for reading and responding to comments, too. :)
What type of business do you own? I am always curious how people survive there
love you bro
Got damn this is the best live stream as far as videop quality
BBB yeah, it’s getting better. With 5G rolling out soon, we’ll get HD 1080p quality or higher!
GREAT VIDEO..........

Can you do another museum or history live stream soon?
Absolutely! I love museums and history. I’ll try to do another one as soon as I can.
Peter is hangry
I bet you can live very well in Japan without a car... What do you think? ...What a stress reducer
Tokyo usually arrives at some station in ten minutes ' walk. There is also a bus.
Peter, sitting like a cool Buddha.
Cool Buddha!! Yes! Good one Mortgalis.
we don't say hand-made beer in usa, we say craft beer- the usual pasteurized stuff is terrible :) I saw his channel. I do not use chat, I always turn it off.
John can you interview Rika Usami?
Wow 1998 what a year!
Wow! TULLY'S COFFEE! ☕️☕️☕️☕️☕️
What kind of voice work does Peter do?
Rolfathan check his website for voice demos :) google his name peter von gomm
Brilliant! Thank you.
Good question...press play
You've both been there for twenty years and I expect to see you both old grey using a walkers and still in Japan. Well one of you grey as it were HA HA..
hahaha!! We'll do a reunion show on the 40th year and see what's changed :P probably cackling and waving our canes at the camera. haha!!
That bun is like 7x the price of any bun here lol :)
Is sarah gomm and peter are relative??
Thank you for your video about being a "lifer" instead of a "flyjin" 😉
I thought it was Rob Halford for a minute
futuredeath LoL
I laugh when every time a Blogger in Japan always say that "Do not eat while walking in Japan" but often see them Eating while walking hehehe :D, it's not a Rule in Japan, it's just not a healthy habit, even here in my country some people will tell you do not eat while walking because first you might create a mess on the road mostly if you bump into someone, second you can't eat properly and third you might have something in your mouth and that's not a pleasant thing when someone sees you, but if this is not a big deal to you, you can eat while walking, it's not like you're disrespecting the rules on the country your just disrespecting yourself hahaha

John can you a piece on karate dojos
Missed the livestream. (Why no chat replay?)
I see it on the re-play.
after I clicked on the notification about your reply, I now see the chat replay. thanks!!
(there was none at all when I clicked on the notif about the livestream.)
Has Peter met the lady with the fur coat that you met last time you were in this area?
Good memory!! I’ll ask 😂
omg you know who peter looks like..Kenny Chesney put a cowboy hat on him bahh
You look Middle eastern and North african I swear.💓
His mum is indian
Why are you trying to keep the streams under 30 minutes? If it was longer, wouldn't the hours viewed be longer? What is the statistical optimal minutes for a stream in a UA-cam business view?
Base on this Louisiana was middle ages too.
You have to be thrifty, otherwise there will be too much month left over at the end of the money.
Peter, why do you need an apartment? What happened to your custom built home?
Oh, he’s still in his home - I hope!! Now I’m worried 😆 we both loved in small places when we arrived and worked hard to grow here, build roots. Nothing happens fast in Japan. It’s slow and steady and sure.
Peter is a very interesting character. How did he even fall into the profession he is in?
That is a great question!! I think he answered a little but we’ll get deeper when we talk about it again - our jobs. He did voice work in the US before coming here but his career took off here. Peter was born to voice over stuff :)

This is the video when John had to lie because his Wedding was near and he didn't want to share that just yet.
HI John
It seems to me from this and other videos that living in japan is basically all about the search for food.
20 years? You should be citizen already, but why still not?
Peter take John to the atm
I always take care of my man PvG at the end of the day. That's what friends do :)
Villian incoming
Sorry to say it Peter, but I'm a VO artist moving to Tokyo soon. Best watch yourself
Why do I always say why did "We" stay in Japan ? 😁 U are single right ? Just so curious...Hi from Arizona USA !
Friends in japan HA HA HA, sure gajin !!!
