- Rules:
1. Only my starter in battle
2. No items in battle, except held items
3. No glitches, exploits, save states, or RNG manipulation
4. No evasion moves before level 100*
Rule details:
-- *In gen1, evasion boosting is allowed if the Pokemon does it through means other than learning the move by level up or TM. For example, using Mimic or Mirror Move to boost evasion is allowed. (This exception is to keep ranking consistent with my legacy videos.)
-- I am allowed to manipulate my starter
-- I play the game at 4x game speed
-- For fair comparisons all my Pokemon have perfect (or near perfect) DVs / IVs
-- I am allowed to catch HM users - I can use all field moves
-- All in-battle glitches are allowed in generation 1
-- In generation 1, I'm allowed to skip Marowak with the Poke Doll
-- Surge's trash-can-puzzle is automatically solved
-- The bike is allowed in gen1, banned in gen2, and allowed for bypassing terrain in gen3
-- Saving between league members is allowed
-- If the solo Pokemon faints and I choose to blackout it counts towards my reset counter
-- I can pause the game and timer to take breaks
-- The footage is sped up / slowed down to match the pace of my narration
-- The ability Pickup can only be used if the starter has it

Honestly. With the quality of your videos it's completly insane that you only have 60k followers. Hope you grow fast because it is well deserved
Quality and popularity are only loosely correlated unfortunately. I think that longevity is more important for a large following and there's only one way to get that.
The subscribers grow exponentially as long as the content is good. The growth is solid so he's doing well and accelerating at a good pace. I remember when 10k was a massive milestone for Scott. He could hit 100k by the end of the year just because of how subscriber count increases on UA-cam.
He has an editor do all the work
@@Martin0 only the editing. There's a lot more to do than editing: scripting, programming, optimisation, planning, recording and just overall direction of the channel. The overlay is his, the structure of the videos, releases etc are, the methodical approach and analysis are his.
Not sure if you meant he didn't put work into the video or that the production quality isn't his work but yea, everything else Scott does contributes to the editing process as well, even if he doesn't do that part personally anymore.
@@Martin0 "All the work" is a bit of a stretch
Congrats on 60k! I'd like to nominate SUDOWOODO again, because gen 1 has no pure rock-type unburdened by double weaknesses, and relying on Mimic from the start would be a very different playthrough from everything else... except for the inevitable Smeargle race one, I guess :D
Tyranitar would be cool to do a port-back for. You could even redo the Tyranitar vs Dragonite but in Yellow this time.
That might be really hard to code, dark doesn't exist in Gen 1.
@@TheBloodyloonThen maybe it can be pure rock, or Rock/Ground like it's Pre evos. If Gamefreak made Ttar in gen 1 it probably would be rock/ground.
@@TheBloodyloon I think another youtuber pulled off dark type in gen 1. there have been rom hacks in the past that have done it as well.
all in all, not too crazy
Congrats on 60K subscribers, it has been a long journey, but you are almost at 100K, just 40K more to go. Looking forward to the premier.
Personally, I would like to see either Steelix or Scizor backported. It will be interesting to see how those evolutions do when they don't have the crutch of having the best type in the game to fall back on. Plus they could be compared directly to their Gen 1 Pre-evolutions, Onix and Scyther.
Yeah steel and dark types in gen1 would be fun!
Congratulations on the new milestone, Scott! As some others have mentioned, it's kind of insane that you have "only" 60k, your channel content is worth so much more! Perhaps might be worth investing into a consulting company to see if there's something you can do to get the YT algorithm to like you more?
Congratulations on 60 K! I can still remember watching your very first video. Was thinking that you were gonna go far. Glad you made it there!
Time to Celebi-brate your 60k subs!
great video. I’m a little surprised (only a little) at just how unseatable Victreebel looks at this point. congrats on 60k again, cannot wait to see that big 75k coming up. you’ve earned it all
Mewtwo may be the only chance. Mew, Dragonite, and Alakazam have big Brock problems, Starmie may get (ironically) blocked around Cerulean/Vermillion, and Lapras and the Bird trio have a bad growth rate. Maaaaaybe Hypno or Poliwhirl/Poliwrath could do it.
@@shiro1744 I think the slow growth rate is a real problem for Mewtwo, but I guess we'll see ...
@@tsawy6It has the worst growth rate, but it starts with both Confusion and Psychic to blast through the early & mid game, and it has the stats and movepool to beat the game in the low-mid 50s. The bad growth rate won’t hinder it as much as other Pokémon that need to be 60+.
What’s that little icon next to your @?
@@Martin0 channel membership
imagine if you could have 4 stacks of Metronome on a Pokemon, that could an interesting challenge
if the clefable run is anything to go off of, this would be a wonderfully painful experience for all involved and i am here for it
New to your channel! Love this format, and your overlay is fantastic! Does it automatically calculate the stat changes???
Now that you’re an ultra-dom, will you show all your subs how to use their pp ?
Time traveling Celebi let’s go hopefully we get a Legend game of Celebi 🤘🏽🤙🏽
Thank you so much for these videos, they truely make me and so many others happy. Congrats on 60k
As a Final Fantasy player, I can very much say that Reflect sounds like it should defend against Special moves.
I vote to backport Zacian. I think that would just be amusing somehow. I guess it would be Normal type?
Congrats on 60K!
I propose you do Slowking. You know, Slowbro's twin -(I really prefer the spanish terminology of Mellizo)- . It should be easy, it's just Slowbro's moveset but replacing amnesia and withdraw with meditate and confuse ray because of its OG name and because I can see Slowking using those moves unlike slowbro. stats it should be 110 special because Slowbro's has 110 defense, and the exact same TMs because it has been that way since ever.
YEAH CELEBI MY FAVORITE POKÉMON!!!
I can't wait to see it demolish yellow version!
Big congrats and well deserved! You're one of the most committed-to-your-cragt guys I know Scott. Major love and respect
Imagine youre blue. Your grandfather gets you an Eevee for your 10th birthday. It's a solid pokemon, pretty rare, gives you an interesting choice for where to take your career. Youre pretty happy.
And then he gives your old childhood friend a time god.
For your next port of recommend something likely Whooper or Chinchou, basically a typing combo that didn't exist in Gen 1. I think it would create some interesting interactions.
Please please please do a video on how to edit a decompiled rom to add moves and Pokémon. I’ve wanted to make a rom hack with slightly altered Pokémon for years and the tutorials online are rough.
Does anyone have original red and blue and yellow code? To switch the code for ghost to be super effective to psychic
Couldn't believe psychic/grass Celebi didn't beat VBell but no sleep moves + no boosting moves really kept it out of first place.
Celebi certainly would have either absorb or Vine whip as a starting move.
Celebi was amazing in gen 1, having recover and leech seed and psychic typing makes a force to be reckoned with.😊 I really wished that the little guy could have had a sub 40 time even though its results are amazing regardless. Gen 1 is when psychic types were game defining, and Celebi is no exception. That makes me wonder which Pokemon is going to take Victreebel's crown?🤔
These port-backs runs are an interesting concept to explore, I would really like to see how a gen 5 or gen 4 pokemon could do in a gen 1 playthrough , especially if that certain pokemon has a unique typing for gen 1, something like Joltik for example could do .😊
By the way , I hope that you'll reach 70k in no time , because your content is amazing.😁
Given how strong Exeggutor is in Gen 1 (its Speed leaves a lot to be desired), it makes sense that a bulkier and faster version with better attack and an arguably better movepool (misses out on Sleep Powder unfortunately) would be super good.
@@ShiningJudgment666 Exeggutor will need a lot of TMs to make it run better, because these level up moveset are really bad . But yeah in gen 1its really good when it comes to gen 1 competitive. But I bet that Brock is going to be hard , because it has to rely on its level up moveset .🤔 And I'm not sure if Exeggutor is in the slow level up group,if it is then it could be a rough time for it in gen 1 .
Pokemon Yellow, with Shuckle!
You know you want to, Scott!
Congrats on 60K! What a journey you have had with your Pokemon challenges!
These Gen 2 pokemon in Pokemon Yellow are interesting.. I enjoyed seeing that 4D chess move of badge-boosting via Lance's Gyarados using Leer in your first run, hehe.
Edit: I think a Marill run in Yellow would be the sauce, especially with a nickname like Pikablu!
In this hack you get an involuntary Celebi
Scott it’s not a matter of IF but WHEN you will hit 100k. Congrats!
Prediction before watching:
Celebi has great stats across the board, access to recover and starts with a stab move. I don’t recall there being any dark types at the start of gen 2, so starting with only confusion for damage shouldn’t be a problem. Celebi’s main weakness is probably its lack of coverage.
I expect celebi to reach the A tier.
Edit:
I saw celebi in the title and assumed it would be a crystal run. If its in yellow, celebi will probably reach the S tier as psychic is op in gen 1.
The crystal run already exists!
Backport Slowking, Bellosom, Politoed, Porygon2, Pichu, Cleffa, Igglybuff, Smoochum, Elekid, Magby, Espeon, Tyrogue, Hitmontop, Crobat
42:48 Celebi gets screeched by Magneton
Massive congrats on 60k!!
I love the method you've developed for back-porting pokemon, it's really faithful to the spirit of the original design
Just wanted to point out something I saw in a firered speed run that might apply.
In Giovanni's gym the trainer at top that blocks you, they rather go up and talk to him from the right side using the spinner tiles. And thus they don't have to reset the room
I wonder how Gligar would do in Gen 1?
A group of pugs is called a grumble
Hey Scott ❤ Congratulations, you deserve this! The amount of effort you give is visible in every second of your channel! Thank you.
Ok, 12 misses on a 50%? So, the general accepted rule for coin flips is that you should expect to see strings of up to five in a row, with larger ones becoming increasingly unlikely enough that you're not guaranteed to see them outside of absolutely enormous sample sizes. So getting the equivalent of a string of TWELVE? Either the universe decided to mess with you or this is proof that Pokemon's RNG is rigged.
I would LOVE to see you play through the romhack Pokémon Crystal Clear. Also congrats on another milestone. You’ve put in so much work and grown so much, it’s really inspirational :)
Seriously proud of you, man! I remember watching you early on in your UA-cam career and liking it. Plus, I respect anyone that loves Venomoth! He's very overlooked.
I hope it's only further up from here for you ✌
3:12 If you wanted a move all about *timing*, why not have given Celebi Metronome? :v E: I know you did on the tm list, but it'd fit with the very early proto-RPG design Gen1 is known for.
I could not find the link to the patch you were speaking of in the description. Is it still available?
It isn't, sorry
You've been at this for more days than there are Pokemon!
I am hitting A MASSSIVE wall on my lapras solo run against the rival's ninetails it keeps SPAMMING FIRESPIN AND HITTING EVERY..FUCKING..TIME!!!!!! There isn't a way for me to outspeed as I saved after lance thinking nothing of it. It is a 70 accuracy move pretending to be swift.
Ok, I mentioned it on another video but I'd like to see a Zeraora backport run. I think that Zeraora might be able to overcome some of the weaknesses most pure electric types have simply because its learnset overlaps with some fighting types.
I have wished since Gen 6 that Celebi had been a grass/fairy type, I can understand why they didn’t change it because Celebi has had its niche for so long, but damn, if any Pokémon is a fairy it’s Celebi. And Mesprit Uxie and Azelf of course. They are literally fairies
Lovely one for the special occasion! Request/something to contemplate if you haven't before... Rather than port-backs, how about moveset changes? Would love to see Tangela with Vine Whip from the start - VERY different playthrough! - and Aerodactyl with Rock Slide. Maybe ones for 2025 when you start to run out of the 151...?
Something I was thinking of: Might a better moveset be Psychic/Recover/Swords Dance/Mimic? Swords Dance gives you setup with the badge boost glitch and you can mimic physical moves in certain key fights, like Lance and Gary "Dicks" Oak. Hyper Beam from Gyarados and Earthquake from Sandslash respectively. You lose Mega Drain which is less than ideal for Lorelei and Bruno but you've still got STAB Psychic which I think would be enough, especially when boosted from Swords Dance.
You'd lose some time from having to set up during those fights but would probably be able to win at a lower level and thus faster time.
Since you're playing at 4x speed, how about adding a tool to show the full contents of your bag off to the side just for your own convenience while you're playing?
Scott: “I only have this many HP for the rest of the fight!”
As Scott: literally has Recover as one of his moves
Also Also Scott: “Maybe I can use Recover!”
Also Also ALSO Scott: “If I’m running low on HP, I can always used Recover!”
You can’t make this shit up 😂
Is a Crystal run with Wooper and Quagsire in the works?
After looking at its move set and TMs, it could make Red, who starts with Pikachu trivial, with the moves Surf, Earthquake, Amnesia and Curse (replaced by Ice Punch/Beam after Blue) holding the leftovers. Also, for Quagsire, additional rules is to ban rare candies on play-through one (note how much is spent by getting them and not getting them) and only get the minimum/optimized amount for play-through two.
First and foremost 60K subscribers is no joke and you definitely deserve it. Also happy channel anniversary. Your challenge runs are my favorite to watch just given how polished they are.
Also I like how dominant Celebi seemed but given its psychic typing, I guess I should have expected it. You asked about any Pokémon we would like to see back ported, in my opinion I have 3 top contenders Tyrannitar, Espeon, and Skarmory. The Espeon is an homage to Red's Espeon in Gen 2 but as for T-tar and Skarmory I would like to see how you handle Pokémon who have a type that isn't in Gen 1 I think it could be interesting.
Congrats on the 60k subscribers! Your content is so incredibly good that its definitely deserved.
For Pokemon to port back: Piloswine, since Piloswine getting both Earthquake and Amnesia makes it really interesting; Meganium since I think it is likely to just be better than Venusaur in Generation I; Shuckle because I think it having a massive Special stat and basically no Special moves is pretty funny, and for the dark horse pick
For a Pokemon you haven't used yet but would be incredibly fun to release its limiters on: Slaking.
(Also did you experiment with copying Slash in the Champion fight? It gives you better game against the Exeggutor and the Magneton isn't scary anyway, so I think it's making a trade for a guaranteed OHKO on the Alakazam versus the Flareon. I can definitely see Earthquake just being more consistent overall tbh I just figured I'd ask about it.)
Congrats on 60k and 3 years! I cant remember how long ive been watching for now. Also I love the portback videos theyre so interesting,.
Id really love to see a gothita playthrough in gen 1, mostly just to see the backsprite.
"This is my grandson. He's been your rival ever since you were a baby! What's his name, Red-Oh'?"
" *Butt.* "
🤣🙏 💯
Rock Throw actually wouldn't be so bad if it had like 30 pp. It does about as much damage on average as ember and tackle.
I...just don't know why its pp is so low.
The next portbacks should be the babies from Gen2, to compare them with there Gen1 counterparts. Pichu vs Pikachu, Elekid vs Electabuzz, Smoochum vs Jynx.... you could even do them in a versus videos against each other :3
38:10 "arrive at the Venomoth with full health"
> 133/149 HP
Yeah...I dunno, man, the math seems a little off here. Maybe some of the Venomoth's poisonous powder affected you?
2:50 I feel game freak definitely understood there wasn't enough rock moves and generation 1 which is why they gave magnitude in fire Red /leaf Green
I think it would fun to see all the Pokémon who got evolutions in Gen 2 and even Gen 4 in Yellow, like Crobat, Steelix, Umbreon, Tangrowth, and Magmorter. Steelix and Umbreon would probably be really hard to backport since steel and dark types don’t exist in Yellow though
I can't believe I've been watching your videos for almost 3 years! I remember seeing one of your videos after watching a jrose11 video with Mew. I saw your video with Butterfree solo and loved it! Have been watching every video since.
So close to 100k! Keep up the great videos and remember to keep having fun with what you're doing.🎉🎉🎉🎉🎉
I really expected you to mimic slash in the champion battle of the second run. Slash would save some time on Alakazam and Exeggutor but maybe Magneton would be too big an issue without EQ.
Well, even if Swift wouldn't have been that useful in the Giovanni fight in the general sense, it would've definitely finished off the Dugtrio faster, and resulted in you taking less Sand Attacks. Also hits while the Dugtrio is underground, so strictly better than clicking something else there. Still super unlucky.
Surprised not to see Double-Edge/Swords Dance/Psychic/Recover as an option for the late game. Badge boosting and such, and Recover offsets Double-Edge's downsides nicely.
Nice job on 60K but let's move on to what really matters: advice on the run! Uh, yeah, I think Swords Dance was an underexplored option here, at minimum right before the Champion it would be a solid option over Mega Drain so Earthquake can run through his team (or a badge boosted psychic for Cloyster). But very solid overall and congrats again
I'm amazed you are just at 60k my friend. So you do so much more than the "main stream" pokefolks. From ideas to patching you should have a couple play buttons under your belt. Keep being yourself and growing.
Also I don't know if you have done this VS vid but Kingler vs Tentacrul one is special one is physical both are 2 stage mons and you could do a gen 1-8 playthrough comparison for each generation. 4 would be the peak of the arc because it gives a special physical split on them. I'm just a subscriber on here but I love the way your brain works on the early gens. Keep up the great work.
Yours truly a Pokemon nerd ❤
Congrats on the 60k!!! Idk about you but us, viewers, are greedy and we want you to have even more! One question though, playing the same version so many times, how much tired does it make you feel?
If you're looking for requests, I'd definitely like to request a Houndour/Houndoom run.
Not sure how you'd incorporate dark-types into gen 1, so maybe make it ghost/fire or something?
If that's not possible, then my back up request is Granbull.
Could've given it Thundershock as a level up move. Also why Psywave instead of Psybeam at level 20 if it gets to learn Psywave from the TM from Sabrina? Also no Razor Leaf or even Vinewhip is just sad. Even if you had made it learn one of the two at an absurd level such as level 50 still would've liked a mythical pokemon to have more than just Leech Seed as a Grass STAB move in its level up learnset. Part of me also wants to feel irate that you gave it Rock Throw, but don't have it able to learn the Rock Slide TM.
Congrats on 60k!
I’m surprised you didn’t mimic slash against the champion to go through Exeggutor faster. Presuming it’s a wash on Alakazam and 2 hits Magneton still. I’m sure you have the calculations.
2:48 Ancient Power implies unleashing some sort of primeval "lost potential". Tangela and Yanma evolve while knowing it because they weren't known to evolve before (more like they always did, but it was forgotten/buried deep within their genetics, essence or something). It was only a rock move because it was likely somehow imprinted on fossils. Rock Throw is way too mundane to replace it. And with these stats and being a Psychic type, Celebi doesn't need rock coverage anyway.
3:37 Celebi learning Baton Pass makes a lot of sense just like Ancient Power considering its time powers. It preserves the stat stages accumulated by a mon and passes to something else of your choice. Whirlwind merely blows off the opponent and you have no choice over the replacement.
Congrats on 60k! When you say "I am the one who crits" against Giovanni's rhydon, it conjures Walter White's "I am the who knocks" speech. I think that may have been intentional. Well done, as always. The content is exceptional.
Can't believe how long it's been. I remembered I asked you to do a Meowth run. Just looked it up and you published it 2 and a half years ago! Still here, watching all your videos. Thanks for all the entertainment! :)
Since fast Grass types seem to be doing so well in Generation 1, I wonder how the remaining generation 2 grass types would do...
Jumpluff seems promising until you remember its attacking stats and its near completely inoffensive level up moveset.
Bellossom and Sunflora simply seem to slow. I guess the last question then would be how would Meganium do with its pure Grass typing...?
Re: Reflect -- Yes! My familiarity with Final Fantasy, where Reflect counters magic attacks, and Protect reduces physical damage, the use of those names for abilities in these games boggles my intuition...
Congrats Scott...ive been here since day one! Ive watched all your vids nd man it takes me back..like u i have adhd nd i remember how important pokemon was to me growning up...literally my childhood!...im 31 now nd i still remember getting that blue green gameboy color nd my own copy of pokemon silver...granted i had blue...but it was a friends nd he had every mon so it wasnt my own journey...i loved these games as a kid nd to this day as an adult i still have emulators nd always do a gen 2 run here nd there...but with mons ive never used or gave a chance...i was the kid that liked "cool" lookin pokemon lol u keep up the good work dude...heres to another 60k....my favorite pokemon is arcanine...random i kno...but i love that guy nd have a soft spot for fire types ever since i got cyndaquil! Best of luck brotha!
Congratulations 🎉!! What a milestone indeed! I am so happy to be on this journey together with the community. Basically only thing missing at this point is "Can you beat Pokémon Yellow as Bruno" with his team xD
I think if it were possible somehow to backport a gen 3 Pokémon, I feel like Swampert would be really interesting in gen 1. If that's not feasible, I bet Fire Red Leaf Green would produce a similar effect
It has been a long time dream of mine to have Grodon/Kyorge/Rayquaza back ported into Crystal. Anyone will do. It was inspired by some ancient youtube videos that showed what they might look like into those games.
I definitely feel the confusion about Reflect seeming related to special. I get confused between Protect and Shell in Final Fantasy for similar reasons. I think "Shield" would be a better anti-physical move.
Please don't take it personally, because I like your videos and the effort you make to answer some questions about how a pokemon would be used to its fullest potential.
So, you have the rules but at the same time you have a few strats (like rest+mimic, badge boost) that end up being the to-go strategies you use for every pokemon, except a few cases. Idk about the other viewers, but I would prefer seeing you using items in battle than seeing you badge boosting every video.
I know the game doesn't give you much room to explore alternatives, but some runs you just rely on the same moves over and over. It's alright to shift it a little, do some changes to the game. It's a challenge, I know, but it's basically the same script every video. I started watching as a mean to sleep, but now I actually try to watch it during the day and the amount of skipping I do is really unfair. I see a lot of potential on this (university magikarp run was really fun, btw), but sometimes I just want to watch something more.
I wasn't sure about the backports initially, but I'd honestly like to see you mess with various things, move pools, etc.
Congrats on 60k subs!!
Challenge idea. You always mention Lt Surge being trash. So try and complete a playthrough using only his Raichu's moveset.
Your not constantly striving for minimum battles is why I like your challenges. When certain other youtubers try to minimum battles every run, they constantly get stuck bashing their head against the wall on the same tough fights every run; it's hard to see the difference between a good run and a bad run when it's "did I reset 10 times vs. Blaine or did I reset 20 times and have to leave to level up", rather than "did I sweep it or did I reset 1-3 times"
I kinda feel like people who ask for minimum battles WANT more battles with low % chance of victory. I think the argument is that the battle becomes more intense and full of nail-biting tension. What they wont see are the battles that result in endless resets. Yeah, I guess having a low reset count with minimum battles can be seen as a testament to skill...but it's more oft than not luck. Gen 1 is raw numbers compared to later generations, so fighting battles at lower levels equates to more resets on both the challenging and trivial battles.
On top of this, they don't take into account that it wouldn't be fun for you. I'm not sure those asking for minimum battles care if it's fun for the content maker, but it may be more likely that it's just a lack of understanding of how mechanical gen 1 is compared to, say, gen 7 with its chance to endure hits and alleviate status ailments based off friendship, and it's broken z-moves and such.
Scott, you have save states, right? Can we see videos where you test mega drain vs solar beam? Being 3x as powerful as Megadrain, I think the tradeoff of healing for getting KOs that might have otherwise been knocked into healing range would be worth testing out. Might be a way to avoid the Exeggutor heal for example and make that a bit more consistent in a situation like this where you only have not very effective moves to use. If you're at minimum 2 shotting everything, and since solar beam doesn't require inputs on the second turn it could be faster if you don't need the heals. Would love to see some alternative elite 4 strategies tested out like this, maybe in livestreams or shorter breakdown videos, if you want some midweek content. I'm sure more viewers would love to see stuff like that
Something I learnt recently which may cause issues when using Mimic strats for Agatha, Substitute is broken in Gen 1 and doesn't protect at all against sleep (along with direct paralysis and indirect confusion).
Congratulations🎉
I'm playing Mewtwo low level for fun as I watch😅
Congrats on 60k subs man. Cheers to many more. IMHO you already surpassed the likes of mahdrybread and jrose11 as the best Poketuber.
Bro it blows my mind you only have 60k subs. I've been subbed for like 2 years already and never realized. I just assumed you had around 250-500k
Honestly, I would have given Celebi amnesia as the calm mind substitute. It might have saved you a teensy bit of time, since you could set up freely and proceed to just sweep.
Amnesia is broken enough that any pokémon that gets it almost automatically becomes insanely strong.
So lucky the Venomoth didn't use Leech Life, because not only does Celebi take four times damage, but Venomoth gets a double STAB somehow!
I've only been here 8 months, but man. I honestly could have SWORN you had more subs than this! Keep it up, Scott! I love your content. 😁
For those who enjoy minimum battles, RBY Pokemon Challenges does exactly that. He has some cool vids like worst Mewtwo run with weakest moves in the game.
Yay, I waited 30 minutes for the premier, then had to sit through 2 minutes of graphics. Happy 3 years, love you, and praise Denis.
I've been keeping up with his videos since he started, but I just realized that I wasn't actually subbed...I feel really dumb
Minimum battles challenges have been completed with various pokemon. A more creative challenge is minimum level (minimum battles without rare candy). Mewtwo's slow growth rate is an advantage in a minimum level challenge: it can finish at a lower level than an evolved pokemon.
Never understood why Nintendo didn’t build a speed run mode into the games as a newgame+ feature, speeding the game up 4x . Especially on later games, Would have made the games more replayable on original consoles
I would be interested to see a versus playthrough of sorts where a Pokemon with the usual perfect DV's goes up against another Pokemon of the same species with 0 DV's across the board. Something with good stats that doesn't struggle with Brock would be good here. Starmie is the first that comes to mind, and it could be especially interesting since its slow growth rate will accentuate the differences in stats and the lack of level up moves will be an interesting constraint.
Dream Eater can only be taught to one pokemon without a sleep inducing move in gen 1: Mew. Which is both the best and worst pokemon to compare to (only gen one mythical but learns every single TM so it's not really comparable)
