RIP Michael Stanley, a true Cleveland legend and icon - Cleveland is heartbroken, but your music lives on. So many great songs. A brilliant musician and songwriter.
I grew up in the Detroit area in the 70's and 80's, listening to Detroit rock radio. Of course we had our own bands like The Rockets, The Look, and others, but Michael Stanley Band was one the city "adopted" as one of ours. They got as much love on the radio as the local acts, and they fit right in. RIP Michael.
I wasn’t born till 90 but my dads from Detroit. I would have loved to come up when you did in Detroit. The music scene sounded unbelievable and the culture 👌🏼, truly jealous.
God bless you Michael you are Ohio’s greatest gift you brought so much joy to us fans just know how much you mean to us all a LEGEND to say the least God bless your family friends and former band mates
Rest in peace micheal stanley, thank you for all the great memories. From the Cuyahoga falls high school class of 1977. Thank you for playing for our class senior project. You brought the house down. I will remember that amazing evening.
When I got the news of this I couldn't stop crying because I grew up listening to him and he was one of my influence to my guitar playing! I loved playing his music no matter who did or didn't like it! He was a big time part of my life as I was growing up in Ohio and always wanted to meet him ! I never got to but he will always be a guitar hero to me! God bless you Mike and may you rest in peace brother!
I loved The Michael Stanley Band during my years at college in Cleveland. Terrific concerts and that signature sound. I even brought a homemade tape and would play" Lover" and other songs while on post in the Peace Corps. Timecapsule music.
This news just hit me like a ton of bricks . I was just listening to live from Tangiers just today. I am so sorry to hear this. Thank you Michael, you made my childhood all the more fuller. I miss you already. May God bless you, Rex
I hate to correct the newscaster, but "He can't love you" was the group's biggest hit, peaking at #33 on the Billboard Hot 100. ."My Town" was their second highest charting single, reaching #39 on the Hot 100...Whoever wrote this tribute should've done their homework just a bit better ..
Cleveland will always be proud of Michael Stanley and his music, radio and television work. He has left behind wonderful memories for a lot of people and an impressive catalog of music that will live on. RIP.
I just looked Michael up on youtube to listen to Rosewood Bitters, I loved it way back and payed it over and over again,,,,,,,,, your songs made it all the way to Manchester, England. So sad to hear this news but will remember him in my heart x
Every time I see this, I cry all over again. MSB sang songs of my loves and loves lost all through high school after moving here from California. Can't wait to see him again in heaven.
I saw MSB at Blossom back in 1982. That fall I left for what would be a 22 year career in the Air Force. I took MSB with me everywhere I went. Including to Saudi Arabia for the 1st Gulf War, and for my 1 year tour in Korea. Whether he knew it or not, he was a world wide star! He got me through some pretty tough days and nights. Such a talent. Such great memories. RIP Michael.
A Navy shipmate introduced me to "Stage Pass" on cassette in early '79, & which helped me endure my last year of sea duty aboard the AS-39. The CD is still in rotation in my car's CD player as I write. "Rosewood Bitters". Thank you, Michael, R.I.P.
Hate to hear this....I was a West Cleveland kid who relocated to the South in 1961...was a diehard MSB fan...I wrote to MS about 10 years ago, and he wrote back to me...that started a string of correspondences about being young Clevelanders during the same time frame...seemed like a good dude
Literally Crying my Eyes out All Weekend !!! Northeast Ohio is Literally Devestaded Right Now.!!! RIP. Michael. We Love You So Much !! Im From Youngstown Ohio. Im Am Truly Devestaded right Now !!!!!!!!!!!!
Truly a sad day for his family and the music world. My condolences to all who were affected by his passing. My Town was a truly inspiring song for me and I will forever be grateful for what he/they brought to the music world.
In 1974, when I was 14, I attended one of MSB’s earliest concerts in Cleveland, at St Joseph’s Academy. Whenever I hear “ Let’s get the show on the road” , It takes me back to then. Fast forward about 20 yrs or so, my husband and I ran into Michael getting on or off an elevator after what I’m pretty sure was a sparsely- populated Cav’s game at what was then still called Gund Arena. We made small talk for a bit, (nice guy) and I can’t remember for sure, but I’d like to think that I mentioned that long-ago concert to Michael in the course of the conversation ( my husband thinks I did). We’ll always have their music, ( so many great songs) but what’s actually making me the saddest right now is realizing his friendly, laid-back voice will no longer be heard on WNCX’s weekday 3-7 drive-time slot on the radio anymore (and even his commercials). You get so used to something for 30 years, it kinda just becomes part of the fabric of life, and then suddenly - it’s done. He really will leave such a void, in so many ways... wish he’d had longer. Condolences to Michael’s family.
(Michael Stanley) Songs are just like ladies, cant forget them, when you do, they are always on your mind... what a line from Rosewood Bitters... we will never forget you Michael!! RIP!!
Huge loss for us that grew up here in N. E. Ohio... '70s/'80s. MS & his band/presence on radio made such an impact on so many. Best wishes to his family. May He R. I. P. 🕊️ 🕴️🎸
I was 16 when Elvis died and I cried then. I cried for Michael Stanley as well. He was a marvelous musician and such a huge part of the Cleveland scene. He will be missed and he will bit be forgotten. Gonna listen to some Spanish Nights I think....
Saw MSB at Blossom and the Coliseum. Found MSB CDs at the old National Record Mart in downtown Pittsburgh...that was torn down. Best concert..1983 Christmas, Donnie Iris opened. RIP, Michael Stanley. You will be missed by my generation.
As a kid growing up in Cleveland in the 70’s and 80’s, Michael Stanleys music was a constant companion. It seemed and still seems as if his contributions to music are like a close friend. I recall long summer nites listening to Stagepass, MSB, North Coast, You Cant Fight Fashion and all the great songs as well as the great concerts at Blossom and The Front Row as many of my fondest youthful memories. RIP Michael, 🙏 to your family. The Heartland lost one of its favorite sons. Peace...
RIP Michael,,my youth was full of your songs. We will miss hearing from you ,,but there are many friends and fans waiting in heaven to see you again. Please take the time to thank God personally for the white lines
A true son of Cleveland made us proud of the fact that you rest forever in Lakeview Cemetery so we will always be at home oh visited their love signed at the cemetery come back when you can stay he did and he's right where he belongs
There are reasons why the "Rock and Roll Hall of Fame" is in Cleveland. The first is that is where the term "Rock and Roll" was coined, and certainly not the last is Michael Stanley. I moved away from Cleveland 41 years ago and still clearly remember the man and the band. Here in Atlanta I can remember hearing the bands tunes on the radio "96 Rock" for years, even thought some of the all time greats are from around here. The world of Rock music will miss Michael. No more pain, rest in peace.
And Lord, there's something 'bout a sad song That helps to ease the pain Here I am Lord just singing up a storm And I'm all alone again #WestSide R.I.P. Michael Stanley legend
God bless Michael ... got to meet him once at a Cavs game in Richfield... what a great guy! Saw him at least 20 times over the years, even that classic sellout run at Blossom! You can't fight fashion🎶
I am sad to know he's gone. I spent decades searching for "Roll On", thinking it was a Gordon Lightfoot recording. RIP. Rio de Janeiro, April 5th, 2021.
Saw him at the Stanley in Pittsburgh when I was a teenager, those were the good ole days, always felt he deserved more recognition given his music, when he sang My Town thought it could have been Pgh too, RIP we'll miss you
The music industry is political as hell. Knowing how humble and down to Earth Michael Stanley was, probably didn't fit the image of what producers thought a "rocker" should be. But that's purely speculation on my part. But it's worth noting that there has been some very strange inductees given the spotlight at the rock and roll hall of fame. But The Moody Blues have yet to be inducted. Smells like dirty politics to me.
I'm a Pittsburgh guy, but went to college at B-W and did an internship at WMMS in the '70s. Got to meet Michael several times (and burned a few). A truly nice guy, a real rocker and great songwriter. He made Cleveland the home of Rock n Roll.
I’m certainly sad about his passing, he did what he did and it’s difficult to see his life as anything but a success story and and a love affair with the Northvoast.
"My Town" was NOT his highest charting single, it was his 2nd highest. "He Can't Love You" charted at #33 in 1980. "My Town" charted at #39 in 1983. You could at least have enough respect for the man and be professional enough to get your facts right.
Cmon. He wasnt that great! HE was a starving artist which is why he had sucked upto so many people to make a living. There was GREAT Bands from Cleveland who were pushed aside because Stanley hoarded all the audience share. Its time to put his BAND to rest. AND by the way, as a CHAIN SMOKER he sure could have done something to avoid getting cancer. He had heart surgery in 2017 which can costs over 100,000. We all pay through our insurance for smokers who don't quit. I feel sorry for his family!
I would say you're the one with the problem,If you haven't noticed your in a class of your own because everyone else has positive comment's about him. Majority rules.
@@RR-ln3fn Again YOUR OPINION of a lot of SUCKERS which I was around when JONAH KOSLEN actually was the won who really gave Michael Stanley a name! His nasally voice is NAUSIATING for me so again YOU were one of his SUCKERS!
Sorry about the loss but Michael Stanley was not a legend as local news portrays him to be. Except in his own mind. Never could make it big so stuck around Cleveland and played New years eve gigs and charging $$$ like he's worth it. Music sucked and so did his attitude. So long and take your crappy music with you. Anyone who likes his music doesn't know anything about music!
Good luck with all that you think I care, You don't even know what you're talking about,He was a legend to most of us in Northeast Ohio from this era,, You have a lot of nerve to say his music sucks, You spoke you're peace I spoke mine, Freedom of speech. If you didn't notice most everyone has a thumbs up for him, So you're in a class of your own idiot. Get a life instead of cutting down a legend that passed. All the best to his family.
i'm a West Virginian and was always a fan of yours Lover is my favorite, thanks

40 years old and Michael Stanley meant A LOT to Cleveland. We will miss him.
When I was in Middle School back in the 70's, they came and played for us, I will always remember that day.
Loved this band...RIP Mr. Stanley...saw them play numerous times and it blew my mind that the band wasn't well known outside of northeast Ohio..
They were known in Detroit and Pittsburgh.
They were pretty popular in south Florida as well.
They were BIG in JAPAN!
From a Pittsburgh kid in the 70s, thank you for the music and memories Michael.

In person, San Francisco. Thank you.
I listened to modern rock, then 'classic rock' stations since the mid-80s, and never heard his name.
I first found out about his death from a UA-cam video from Channel 2 in Pittsburgh.
I'm a Pittsburgh guy, but went to college at B-W and did an internship at WMMS in the '70s. Got to meet Michael several times (and burned a few). A truly nice guy, a real rocker and great songwriter. He made Cleveland the home of Rock n Roll.
RIP! :(
I’m certainly sad about his passing, he did what he did and it’s difficult to see his life as anything but a success story and and a love affair with the Northvoast.
