I think the point is that if, for one example, the 2007 Spurs got to play the Cavs in the Finals instead of the Pistons, the Spurs got lucky. In my (and I would guess most people's) opinion, the Cavs weren't actually better than the Pistons that year, they just played better at the right time. Credit to the Cavs for stepping up, but I seriously doubt the Pistons get swept in the Finals in 07. The ECF upset was a break for the Spurs.
8:511 "Chauncey Billups says 1997 rape allegations 'shaped my life', Trail Blazers prevent follow-up questions" is right up there with Blazers picking Sam Bowie over Michael Jordan as the most dumbest moments in Blazers history lol
It‘s an asteriks because wether the team won or not was out of their own hands. If the 18 rockets for example just made 5 of the 27 3s (which were mostly open) they win the series and the warriors don‘t win the ring. So they were fully at the mercy of the rockets.
@@llgg1668 I mean I get when people put an asteriks on a title because they faced an injured team. But you can't put an asteriks if the other team just flat out choked. That's the whole point of basketball the one that shoots better wins. I get that this video is a joke but still.
A few details you missed: -Boston lost the 1958 Finals to St. Louis, due to Bill Russell being injured -Lakers lost to the Pistons in 1989 not only because of Magic Johnson's injury, but also because Byron Scott didn't play in the series at all. -Celtics big man Kendrick Perkins ripped up his knee in game 6 of the 2010 Finals. Boston had a 3-2 series lead but lost game 6 and then lost game 7 by 4 points and was dominated in rebounding 53-40 without Perk. -2017 Warriors got past the Spurs in the WCF due to Kawhi's injury. The Spurs were up 20 in the 3rd quarter of game 1 at Golden State. Then Kawhi got hurt and never played in the series again. The Warriors rallied to win game 1 and sweep the Kawhi-less Spurs. Love the video though! Especially the last few seconds. Outstanding!!
You need to make a "Triggering all NBA fanbases" with an East and West edition like you did with the AFC and NFC in the NFL. It would be super entertaining.
Let’s be honest, the Lakers were just trounced by the Pistons in 2004. Any team with Shaq and Kobe should’ve been a shoo-in for the title, especially at a time when both future Hall of Famers were in their prime. In addition to Shaq and Kobe, that Lakers squad had HOF Gary Payton (who was an All-Star in ‘03), HOF Karl Malone (who was an All-Star in ‘02), former All-Star Horace Grant, and several seasoned role players in Derek Fisher, Rick Fox, Devean George, and even a young Luke Walton. They weren’t lacking in talent or depth; they were just outperformed by a team that had all the right pieces at the right time.
Malone was hurt and something was wrong with Gary Payton Games were obviously fixed, Pistons were allowed to maul the Lakers But obviously after 2002 no one felt sorry for the Lakers
Honestly Idc what people say abt the 21 Bucks. If Harden and Kyrie didn’t bail from Houston and Boston to form a superteam to begin with, that Nets Bucks series still woulda been a 1 superstar vs 1 superstar matchup with KD and Giannis 😌
Based on this it seems to me the most legitimate titles are 1992, 2000, 2009 and 2014. No really big injuries or controversies, just teams being way better and destroying their opponents.
Doesn't 2017 fit that bill? The only complaint people have is that the warriors that year were TOO good, but that isn't a reason. If you develop 3 all-stars through the draft then you aren't allowed to sign one, apparently.
@@ianjamesbarnett I think dude said it best with "artificial dynasty." People generally don't respect that team's success because the expectation before Durant was already success. Then you add in one of the top 2 players in the world at that time. As OP said, that's a controversy

To start with, I'm a Spurs fan going back 40 years, so dismiss my comments on that basis if you want, but: Barry's asterisk was based on game one. Miami won game two, series was tied going into games three and four in Miami. No asterisk necessary for the Spurs eviscerating the defending champs in their place. Is there such a thing as a reverse asterisk? Because the Thunder were a MAJOR problem for the Spurs in those years, even after Harden left. Especially when playing them in OKC. In game six, the Spurs were up 3-2 but this game was in OKC, and Tony Parker was unavailable for the second half. Yet the Spurs found a way to win that game against that tough opponent in their house. Usually in a playoff series, the team with the best player wins the series. But the Spurs beat Kevin Durant in his MVP season in the WCF and LeBron James in the Finals in back-to-back series. Barry had to really reach for that particular asterisk.

When your team doesn’t have a nba tittle 😂
I loved this. Please make one one for the NFL / NBA GOAT discussion. Would have so many asterisk's that it would look like it was snowing. XD
4:22 Thank you for acknowledging that we were ROBBED of a younger, healthier Arvydas Sabonis
I appreciate that the mavs title in 2011 was basically asterisk free and is the only time LeBron OBJECTIVELY threw away a chip.
He knew Wade was getting that FMVP, only explanation I can think of
I can give an asterisk. That year was the 1st seed Spurs got eliminated by the 8th seed Grizzlies team, making the way for the Mavericks have an easier path to the finals.
I remember that Bucks Sixers series. As much as I really liked Iverson, the fix was in, the league really wanted Iverson on the big stage and the popular costal teams playing each other.
Bruh when he said lebron made it to the finals with some make a wish kids i lost my shit 😂
i couldn’t even be butthurt with 2005, that was fucking perfect lmaoo
9:45 i had to pause the video to contain my laughter. it stunk being a cavs fan, finally getting something to cheer about, and it just be wasted due to poor management. it really felt that they were all make-a-wish kids
I know the list isn't meant to be taken seriously, but "their opponent was bad" is not an asterisk in any circumstance.
If you know its not serious why even comment that
@@calebreeve4397 because it's such lazy nonexcuse even for a joke/trolling video like this.
It is an asterisk enough for the people who hated the team who won the championship.
8:511 "Chauncey Billups says 1997 rape allegations 'shaped my life', Trail Blazers prevent follow-up questions" is right up there with Blazers picking Sam Bowie over Michael Jordan as the most dumbest moments in Blazers history lol
As a Warriors fan, I was mad. But you got all the respect back with that Brady line.
A lot of these aren’t asterisks they’re just playoff chokes 😂
It‘s an asteriks because wether the team won or not was out of their own hands. If the 18 rockets for example just made 5 of the 27 3s (which were mostly open) they win the series and the warriors don‘t win the ring. So they were fully at the mercy of the rockets.
Or just injuries that happen in any sport...
@@llgg1668 🤡
@@llgg1668 I mean I get when people put an asteriks on a title because they faced an injured team. But you can't put an asteriks if the other team just flat out choked. That's the whole point of basketball the one that shoots better wins. I get that this video is a joke but still.
some are anomily chokes like 16 warriors or LBJ vs mavs
I absolutely thought of this many times when it comes to the past 6 or 7 titles! Always seems to be a key injury or two that changes things.
Lol the ending with the brady joke was kind of funny though... Lol.
Some of these are literally just “the other team played bad and if they just played slightly better they would’ve won” 😐
Yeah if the team played bad thats their fault but if it's injuries or bad calls then thats a valid point
It’s like you don’t know what an asterix is
Yeah that's the joke... This is satire. He's mocking all the crybaby fans who say things like "b-b-but Kywie was injurwed so it doesn't cownt :("
@@th3gps223 oh shi my bad i dont watch this guys videos
It's asterisk enough for the people who didn't like the team won the championship.
THANK YOU I kept seeing Warriors fans Bragging about winning in 2015 But They always seem to forget That Kyrie and Kevin was Injuried
No warriors fans brag bruh we know we shouldn’t have won that 💀
Doing god's work Barry Keep it up!
When you bet on every nba finals since 1950s, but haven’t won a single one
A shot at Brady to end the video. Live this man.
A few details you missed:
-Boston lost the 1958 Finals to St. Louis, due to Bill Russell being injured
-Lakers lost to the Pistons in 1989 not only because of Magic Johnson's injury, but also because Byron Scott didn't play in the series at all.
Don’t forget Kevin Garnett being injured in 2009.
You need to make a "Triggering all NBA fanbases" with an East and West edition like you did with the AFC and NFC in the NFL. It would be super entertaining.
That last parting shot at Tom Brady in a completely unrelated video is why I love this channel.
Malone was hurt and something was wrong with Gary Payton
Games were obviously fixed, Pistons were allowed to maul the Lakers
But obviously after 2002 no one felt sorry for the Lakers
@@DanielSong39It’s not “mauling”, handchecking was legal back then and the Pistons were one of the greatest defensive teams of all time
All I want for Christmas is a F1 version of this video lol
You should do a video where you put an Asterisk on World Series Titles Barry.
This video is just absolutely wonderful
This journalism is vastly superior to anything you’d get from ESPN which is hilarious to think about
“LeBron James and a bunch of Make-A-Wish kids”-ha ha ha ha!!!!!
The pre-merger league didn't have enough teams, but had too many in the Jordan era. LUL.
Also, you can come harder than that against the Rockets.
LMAO what did Tom Brady ever do to you man!!!
Honestly Idc what people say abt the 21 Bucks. If Harden and Kyrie didn’t bail from Houston and Boston to form a superteam to begin with, that Nets Bucks series still woulda been a 1 superstar vs 1 superstar matchup with KD and Giannis 😌
This guy woke up and chose violence. And I'm here for it...😂🤣🤣
are we getting an asterisk on every World Series title soon as well?!
I love how there are actual reasons for every single one except 2011. Lol
Was waiting for the Brady slander
Best nba vid yet
I like how you said “Jordan was SUSPENDED and off playing baseball “ that “RETIREMENT “ never happened if you know you know
That Bulls team & D Rose 🌹 he’s talkin bout at 10:58 was NO JOKE that year.
Based on this it seems to me the most legitimate titles are 1992, 2000, 2009 and 2014. No really big injuries or controversies, just teams being way better and destroying their opponents.
For 2011 he had to come up with some mafia explanation
Doesn't 2017 fit that bill? The only complaint people have is that the warriors that year were TOO good, but that isn't a reason. If you develop 3 all-stars through the draft then you aren't allowed to sign one, apparently.
@@ianjamesbarnett I think dude said it best with "artificial dynasty." People generally don't respect that team's success because the expectation before Durant was already success. Then you add in one of the top 2 players in the world at that time. As OP said, that's a controversy
@@ianjamesbarnett Most of the criticism was directed at Durant for choosing to sign with a already historically good team who he had just blown a 3-1 lead to. In my opinion I wouldn't fault the Warriors management for making their team better, that's what they are meant to do
To start with, I'm a Spurs fan going back 40 years, so dismiss my comments on that basis if you want, but: Barry's asterisk was based on game one.
Barry had to really reach for that particular asterisk.
boston lives rent free in this guys head
Where the hell are my puppies Barry?
I was waiting to say what he said about the 2011 Mavs. That team just flat out beat everyone. No injuries, no controversy.
Just when I was thinking about how I don’t want to wait until Tuesday to hear Barry rip through people 💯💯🔥
2002 and 2020 deserve heavy asterisks.
Barry is a research wizard! Love how dedicated he is
Once we get into the 2000’s, you start to really wonder if the NBA is rigged, lol.
“they played bad” ain’t rlly an asterisk💀
