Hi Jackie from what i have seen this last three years you and Helen are not ones for giving up and lying down you will have a crop and it will be a good one i am sure, and yes the Mayo people are great you wont go without in Mayo stay safe ATB
It's getting tough must admit 9 days tonight with no electric , lots to clear but can get started when they sort the electric cables as they are all entwined in those fallen trees , x
When I was on call to clear the roads during any storms conifers were the most damaged due to them having the green growth, which the wind does use to blow them over, acting as a sail. Hopefully it doesn't take too long to clear the mess.
Despite ALL the devastation, this is a beautiful and helpful video, Jackie! The information is invaluable and delivered with such heart (which is why I bothered Helen for the “survival” details a couple of days ago). So glad I could revisit this video today. Wish I could be there to lend a hand in the clean-up and restoration. Keep your chins up, and know that I’m holding you both in my heart and mind as you move forward. Thank you. 🍃♥️🍃
So delighted that it helped in some way. Thank you to for such a heartfelt message, really needed that. We had a text tonight to say a new estimated time for restoration is the 9th Feb x
@ good gravy (probably an American expression!), Feb 9 seems like an eternity, given what you’ve been through; hopefully, that’s realistic and they beat that estimate! I’m spending time with your other videos this afternoon, and am learning more about your situation. Seeing the before videos gives me a better idea of the enormity of what you’ve been through. I love your intelligence and ingenuity in preparations; all the trees snapping is just disheartening to witness. Take it easy, take it slow, and stop to hug one another. I hope your autoimmune condition and arthritis (absolute b*tches!) calm down quickly. If there’s anything I can do for you from afar, please let me know.
So lovely to see you, Jackie. I can't believe the amount of work you have ahead of you.Wish I were younger and fitter, and I'd be there to help.I'm sorry about your polly tunnel you looked and sounded so sad when you saw it.Thank you for taking us with you to see the damage the storm had caused.love to you both take care xx
Thanks so much Olwyn, I was so shocked at the damage , it never woke me up yet it was so close to the house, luckily the house was OK. Helen was awake during the night and she said a huge light lit up the garden and room, it must have been that electric cable. The polytunnel well, I will try and sort that in time, at least the lighter nights are coming , much love to you too xx
Glad to hear that your positivity and good planning is paying off for you, we have one of those 2 ringed hobs for 20 years, hasn't been used very much T.G. but a great help when needed. I hope your electricity is restored very soon I wish you the best harvest ever this year, you deserve it. And here's to a great Summer to enjoy.
Glad you’re ok . Looks like you have a lot of work to do cleaning up those trees. Glad you have good community which helps you all keep going. Look at a lot of things people use in camper vans > lights low wattage kettles low wattage induction hob to use off your power banks for any future events. Take care 🙏🏻
Oh girl, my heart got as squashed as your poly tunnel seeing the devastation. Are there cattle that graze on the fields where the downed trees got placed? They take years to rot down. At least you can get hot meals. Full tummy, happy heart, I say. Best of luck in rebuilding your crops.
I know , the polytunnel was a blow , I'll just have to do a bit at a time and other will get there eventually. Today is a beautiful day , I just popped out and filled the bird feeders .I'm looking forward to the longer nights Sharon x
Sorry to see the devastation you suffered Jackie. This time we were let off lightly in Dolgellau. About twenty years ago we had a bad storm and the electricity was off for four days....missed a hot bath but our neighbours had a gas cooker so they cooked us casseroles! Take care.xx
You had lovely neighbors too Tony , definitely a lot of damage it must have been a sting jet because it's all along that side of the road . Looking forward to spring now and a bit of sunshine xx
No power, no water, no heating, no phone, no Internet, the younger members of the family think we are in the dark ages! We are only a few miles away from Knock airport (Ireland Airport West) and the same height, they recorded 139Km/h wind speed, but the good news is we are all safe and well.
It must be hard for the young family , that is some speed , on the radio it said that they are going to become more frequent. Must admit it made us wonder whether we should move into a town or something but we do love it here.Glad you are all safe and well , that's the main thing :)
Great advice and hopefully ye get back power real soon ,my son is in maam connemara and has no power or water yet ..need measures put in place to check elderly
Shocking really I worry about people on their own. There were families posting in groups online saying that they hadn't heard from their family for 5 days , hope your son is managing it's been tough
Thank goodness you got through the worst of it, but heck, what a lot of clearing up ahead. A lot of lessons learned by a lot of people with this storm. Good advice there and I plan to look into the ecoflow. Am scared of going over to assess any damage to our place, shall be over to check it out asap. On the positive side, we did buy a good (used) Stanley and have a log stove to put in the living room. We also have a heavy duty double burner and a Vevor canner (I preserve meats and veggies in jars) which would help if we had a long term power outage. Water bath canning is great, if you collect enough jars and lids, you can rescue meat/fish/veg from a freezer in case of breakdowns or power cuts.
I'll have to look into canning lots of people do it don't they . You've got things in place nice.. Everyone would have learnt a lot from this storm , we've even ordered one of those rechargeable showers xx
@@thegonepotties Yes, I do think that the storm will turn out to have taught us all a few lessons, number one being that there will always be something we had not reckoned for. The shower idea sounds like something worth looking into :) If you do need any help/advice on canning, just shout xx
😮😮😮. The main thing is your safe. We had a couple of fences down & they'll stay down for now. No electricity for 4 days. Managed to cook on 2 camping stoves & boil water for tea. Hopefully the Army will be sent to help with clear up. One day at a time,i know platitudes but what else can you do. 🤔.😊.
Ohh dear that is a lot of damage 😢 hopefully you will get some help whit that but I guess everybody has theyre own clean up at the moment. Thank God you bouth are allright ❤
We got it last year when a storm put us out for 5 days. They were selling them in Harvey Norman then. At the moment, you can't get them for love nor money. As soon as this is over and they restock we will definitely get another.
Even done a Google search tommy and out of stock, some of them are bigger and much more expensive , the one with the two plugs is handy enough , I think they have a 10 year warranty
I bought 2 Ecoflow Delta Pros 2 years ago, totlal power of 7200kwh. I bought the smart panel to get it connected to the house to power essentials, but can't find an electrician to fit it. The batteries run my freezer for 4 days, but that is it, so, i turn it off at night to save power. I bought them online , they should still be available. I do have a smaller one also which is more mobile, 1200kwh which j use for thd router and phones, it would be hard without them. I have gone 6 days without power now I the last 2 storms, no WiFi and very little phone coverage, so planning more for the next one. I don't have a car, it takes me 3 hours to walk tk thd nearest shop and back, j am getting slower with age. I don't have a normal generator, but do have 2 400w solar panels, only good for the Summer, and takes about 2 full days to charge.
You have a lot in preparation for the powercuts. The ecoflow are just great , the solar panel sounds worth looking at too. That's a long walk to town too , how do you manage for food shopping does someone give you a lift to town, you must be so rural x
@thegonepotties I rely on deliveries from Supervalu, Tesco and Dunnes. I have one neighbour that will help from time to time, especially with bird seed. I run out of bird seed a lot with the amount of Goldfinches and Siskins. I have not had a car for 3 years, but have managed ok so far, but it would be handy to pop out for provisions. My partner is an artist, we sell her paintings, but not enough to cover outgoings, so I maybe looking for a work from home role this year.
Hope you are all keeping safe and warm. Would love to hear from you all x
Don't forget we have a facebook page ..The Gone Potties .
Really good advice

Those conifers are a nightmare they grow out at the bottom too, bit of a job Terry eh x
@thegonepotties have you got a chainsaw? The electric ones are good .
I've got an electric stihl but still no electric day 9 and the cables are all amongst that lot. Soon as they have been ill get going on it x
@thegonepotties 😁

Why did the army help out?
They didn't, farmers cleared the road so that it was accessible, still no electric
