I immigrated to Rural Ireland from South Africa in 2017. Currently living in North Cork. I can't believe I moved from a city lifestyle in South Africa to living in a wood cabin home on 15 acres of land in Ireland. Love it here. I'll never go back to SA, and I'll never go back to living in a city or town.
Hi Ladies ! Just came across ye'r channel just now....really enjoyed listening to both of you and giving us an insight into how you both have settled into rural life in the west of Ireland Best wishes for 2025! Look forward to future updates about ye'r country living in the West!
Really encouraging and helpful Clarified my thoughts of moving back to Ireland having lived many years in London Appreciate your generisoty in recounting your journey
It's lovely to hear you have settled in so well. Your fierce lucky to be rural yet have good Internet. I am in a very rural part of West Cork, I have neither fibre optic or 5G signal. I only get it in 1 room of the house too and that's using a booster. The mobile signal can be intermittent too. There are no Twiglets in Cork however after working in the UK for a while I developed a great love for Branston Pickle and I finally found some in Tesco. Happy days.
ah that's bad luck about the internet. Hopefully the rollout gets to you soon. We can get Branston but not the small chunk version. For that it's a trip to Enniskillen.
we were lucky with the fast internet, they started the work on our road but stopped after our house, recently they seem to be cutting bushes etc for the cable to carry on, hope that you get yours soon, enjoy your pickle, lovely to have you here :)
Aw ladies, I know how you feel. As a Dub born and bred, in 2001 we bought an apartment overlooking the river in Newport, Co. Mayo (holiday getaway) while I was pregnant on my first child. Following the birth of my second child in 2005 we sold the apartment as it didn't have a garden but a balcony. Best decision ever. We bought a house 7km outside of Westport with amazing views, the peace I adore and a small garden perfect for family food and animal needs. I still feel I'm on holidays when I come down here. I desperately want to be here permanently but my husband is a full time city guy with part time country life tendencies. Anyway, now my kids are adults, I plan to slowly move in here (hopefully hubby won't notice as we get older). I hope maybe one day we can meet for a cuppa in Horkans as you both have inspired so many of my dreams and realisations now I'm in my 50's. The road ahead of me is shorter therefore I want to make it easier and what I have desired for so so long. May I recommend Aldi or Lidl over Tesco for value here, pity A or L dont deliver. Im so glad you gals are in my country and are fairly close to my part of the world, you make life so much better, so joyous and easy to navigate. I personally don't care how little, how often or how much you upload as long as you do because its a gem to look forward to when you do. Love you gals ❤. Keep trucking, keep healthy, keep inspiring ❤❤❤❤❤. Fabulous to see you both looking so fabulous.
What a lovely comment thank you so much, we would love to meet you in the garden centre sometime. Do you go to the turlough nursery around the corner from there ? I'm sure hubby would just do what makes you happy , after all that's what it's all about . When you're in your fifties you start to realise what brings you happiness, really in a nutshell it's the simple things. Your little cottage seems gorgeous, the views and the sea air. We lost our neighbour so suddenly 😔 he help us a lot when we first moved in, we helped one another, such a massive shock at 63, it's made us realise how precious life really is , grab it with both hands . We have a new aldi in the town , love it, especially the middle isle. Sending big hugs to you and yours 💚💙🩵
@@thegonepotties Turlough is one of my favourite places ever. I head back to Dublin tomorrow but coming back with my sister on the 17th for a long weekend. However I'm here for weeks if not months from May. Can't wait. We will have that cuppa sooner than later ladies 💚
There is a housing crisis here now that was not as much of an issue 8 years ago, unfortunately the youth of Ireland are heading to Australia, Canada etc as they have no hope of getting on the property market, your were lucky that you moved when you did as after covid all the rural property s near me that had been sitting unsold for years all sold after covid and prices went way up
It's tough for the youngsters, When we came over in 2016, they had already been leaving to other parts of the world for a long time in our neck of the woods. Back then it was for work and world travel experiences, rather than property prices. We have seen the house prices have rocketed in the past couple of years all over but no chance for most if you want to live near Dublin. We are very rural and many abandoned properties are still around us, but they are not for sale as yet. It's a shame and it would be lovely to see the communities rebuild with affordable housing.
Sounds blissful. I now live in Norfolk, UK; I grew up in a lovely village called Stansted Mountfitchet in Essex. Which has grown over the years, sadly, like many places. I enjoy the slightly more tranquil pace, but with the way things are in the UK and a move on the cards for the near future, it would be good to explore Ireland. My mother's family came from Ireland many years ago.
There's something about the peace and tranquility as you get older, you should do a holiday here and visit a few places , there's a website called daft.ie have a look on there it's interesting x
welcome to Ireland..i to lived in the Uk..but now live on the Cork and kerry border..its a fabulous place to live..and great place for children..when i go back over now ..i can't wait to come home ..ya ii know what you said about the tesco..they are so friendly here .they won't speak to you in the uk..good luck to you in all you do here and hope you'll always be happy here...🙏🙏🙏🦶
Hello ....... I moved over 7 months ago from Kent We are called " Blow overs "here in N Ireland .I live just outside Ballymena & I can agree with pretty much everything you both said the only real difference I, still on the NHS so no bills there however as you said hard to find people I have been lucky & have a private English dentist my implants were half the cost here My web designer is also English again as you say , where I live down a little lane it's a milk producing area so cows everywhere, beautiful views & beautiful people & again yes EasyJet cheap really busy so lots of flights everyday and only 35 mins away ....... in fact every thing I need is no more that 15 minutes away /Health Care / Sainsburys etc. the Spar shops here are brilliant like mini supermarkets if you need something urgently For me there is only one downside ( coming from Kent which is almost always warm & sunny ) the weather ! ....... it's pretty wet !! and grey ...... hence " the Emerald Isle ") I would never move back to the busy pot hole filled roads/ neighbours who you don't know / road works etc. the people here can't do enough to help you & love to chat even the supermarket ladies . in face anywhere you shop x subscribed tonight
So good to hear all of the stories, agree with the weather but I suppose we can't have it all , down here we are called blow ins 😀 , thanks so much for subscribing , lovely to have you here:)

"YOU'RE" fierce lucky..
I was sort of the other way around - having spent 24 years travelling in the Royal Navy, I was glad to settle down in my home town.
that's a lot of travelling Steve. My dad was in the army , we moved a lot, nice now though that you can spend your time doing the stuff that you enjoy
