  • So you may notice this video basically turns into an LM-2 demo. I picked it up at a thrift store and needed an excuse to play with it; so here we are.
    Let me know down below why compression or limiting appeals or sucks for you.

    Your 80’s and 90’s references scattered throughout were awesome for this 40 year old metal head 😂
    Thanks for breaking this down for us, I look forward to seeing you getting more subscribers. This is the first video by you I’ve seen and I happily subscribed. And you SHRED on that guitar! I’ve never even tried playing with my fingers on something that wasn’t a bass haha. And as a bass player, if I’m not using OD or distortion, I NEED that compression! I never really knew what a limiter/enhancer was though. But again, I’m a simple metal guy.
    Cheers!

    1/ a dbx chip is a vca
    2/ a limiter is a compressor, you can level up the volume with level control.

      I owned one a while ago but had always preferred my CS2, which I consider to be my all time favorite pedal. I play clean 99% of the time, so I use the CS2 as my "overdrive" in a sense. But I really want to try another LM2 now that I know a bit more about limiting vs compression and see if I could get big use out of it. I always just thought it was more for bass than standard guitar.

    • @billl.4410
      @billl.4410 Рік тому

      @@LeviBulger yeah they're both great. I think Clifton is correct when he said they're just slightly different flavors. The CS-2 has more of a squish/sag feel while the LM-2 is just a limiter. Both pedals are very useful for different applications.

    I have always liked the MXR Dyna Comp and the DOD 280 compressor pedals. They are great for driving a tube screamer or mid overdrive pedal like the MXR Distortion +.

  • @jbognap
    @jbognap 2 роки тому

    I use compression for my clean sounds because it allows me to pick more lightly, otherwise if struck too hard, notes can choke out. Compression with overdriven sounds can help smooth things out, but can ruin the pick definition. Plus, too much compression live with overdrive tends to cause feedback (not the good kind).

      Those are some of the reasons I’ve used the Cali76 since it came out, it stacks more like a low gain overdrive with other pedals

    I have a Mandela effect story with that Boss pedal. Back in the 1980s my brother bought a pedal for his bass. I would have sworn it was a Boss pedal. It looked just like the CS-2 except it was labeled as a Compressor/Limiter. The knob on the right was a Limiter until half way and then it became a Compressor (or maybe the other way around). I know that doesn't make sense but I clearly remember it being like that.
    Btw, great playing.

      @redhorsereincarnated5040 10 місяців тому

      @@cliftonwright7081 No. That's the thing. It was exactly like the CS-2. Same blue with a level and attack knob but it said Compressor/Limiter, or maybe the other way around. I must be remembering wrong but it's such a vivid memory. I've tried to find one just like it on the Internet and I can't. It doesn't exist but in my memory it does. 🥴

    • @cliftonwright7081

      The CS-2 is a more apparent effect but still works well into an overdrive. The LM2 might be more natural sounding, especially when stacked with gain.

      I like the LM2 but I’d recommend starting out with the volume dimed so that you don’t struggle as much as did with finding a cool setting that doesn’t duck down below unity gain
