My dad had a Ryobi 18 volt drill since 2012. I thought it was an inferior tool to the dewalt 14.4 volt drill but, it’s surprisingly better when I used it. It still works today. One of the batteries is permanently dead and had to be replaced in 2022. Bought myself an M12 fuel gen 3 impact driver and drill kit the same day and it’s a rocket ship compared to the Ryobi, much lighter, and much more comfortable to hold. I added an M12 fuel multi tool, an M18 fuel circular saw kit, M12 fuel hackzall kit, and an M12 rover light. I’m so happy that I have the 6 essential power tools for a home owner that are actually premium. But I’m getting more Milwaukee fuel tools down the road and throw in an M18 job site lantern and an M12/M18 job site Bluetooth speaker as a treat.

I just purchased my second Porter Cable set because my Tigersaw (reciprocating) pissed out after almost 8 years- and I wanted the oscillating multi tool this new kit came with. I can tell you this… all of the PC batteries I’ve purchased over the years- (6 1.5ah and 2 4ah) are still going strong. That’s unheard of with how often I’m using my tools as a DIYer. This new kit came with 2 2.0ah batteries that have the onboard charging percentage indicators on them. So I’m up to 10 batteries, three drills (one of which is brushless), two impact drivers (the OG is beat to hell and trigger assembly held together by a ziptie and JB weld), new reciprocating saw, new 5.5 skillsaw, brushless 6.5 skillsaw, oscillating multi tool, two different flashlights, vacuum which is amazingly effective and 4 chargers (2 base, 2 of the cheapies that the kits come with). My son in law is a contractor and uses Milwaukee. having used his stuff- yeah there is a difference. A big difference. But at the end of the day- a Toyota will get you from point A to B just like a Porsche. I’ll stick with my PC tools. 👍🏼

Thank you. I’ve been trying to decide between these two kits. The charger, is the reason I keep going back to Ryobi

Ryobi is a very strong choice for beginners. The 18vone+ platform enables lots of options in expansion, value for $$ and range of tools👍🏽

My in-law is a major contractor here in Puerto Rico and has Ryobi brand tools as his quick go-to tools for work. He also owns Milwaukee and Nikita brands but most always reverts back to Ryobi.

After watching all the videos, this weekend I got the following (I'm new to this and mainly for home projects )
    1. Power corded tools like the grinder and milter saw, reciprocating saw... Etc, they are so cheap and almost giving them away
    2. Kobalt 24v brushless 4pc combo kit to start. I paid $206
    3. Ryobi 6pc brushed combo as the back up, $170
Thanks again for taking the time to make these videos, very informative and helpful for me / us as a beginner 👍🙏❤️

Good video, years ago I bought a DeWalt tool system on black friday because I got it for cheap and was making a ton of money at the time. I've since bought the stem adapter and have a variety of the older 18v stuff and the new 20v max. I will continue to replace older tools as they break but... If I had to buy a new tool line from scratch, I'd probably consider something more in the middle of the road category such as Ryobi.I just don't use them enough to warrant buying the higher end tool. I also feel like most cordless power tools are designed with planned obsolescence. I don't want to be to heavily invested and all of the sudden not able to get batteries.

I love my PC brushless drill/driver and impact combo. Especially impact got quick connect. They work just like they should. Only thing the battery capacity they came could be bigger.

I bought one of Ryobi's huge kits had to be 15 years ago the tools have never failed me once I've used and still use them atleast 2x a week now yes the original 2 batteries died on me but over the years I've added a new tools I didn't have witch came with new batteries . yes I've bought bare tools like a glue gun and stapler but thats the greatest part a 8 peice kit started me out and then one by one more and more tools came out and complemented what I already had now i own about 30 Ryobi Tools and every one works when I need it to .... My new neighbor who is a first time home owner "amazing neighbor" was always borrowing my tools .... His first Ryobi buy was the 18v weedwacker and blower combo then a 6 peice kit ... He's got 4 batteries and is super excited with not borrowing my stuff !! Now for the best part he's so happy with there line he has bought me a tool for Christmas the last 2 years as I have for him ! Best part is we never knew one another untill he bought the house now we are the best of friends ! Ryobi not only gets the job done but has opened up a friendship for two guys who bust butt everyday and enjoy a little project on side ... Heck we built our own sheds this past summer ....

I went with Porter Cable, buying a "kit" and separate tools over time. I now have THREE chargers -- all resembling the Ryobi you show here, but two are slow-chargers and one is a fast charger. A consumer has to be VERY particular about the model # of the tools they buy! Porter Cable makes many variants of "the same tool". Even the reciprocating saw comes in two variants.
My only beef with Porter Cable is they don't offer a brushless hammer-drill.

if you want your videos to be more professional, which would help them be more successful, definitely up your audio, it definitely has an "im standing across the room" quality to it.. a $30 lavalier mic under your shirt would make a huge difference

I've got Porter Cable corded tools that I love, the 15 amp Tiger Saw and I have a Circular Saw called the mag that's a left handed cut that is my favorite. Their cordless tools leave room for improvement. IMO That story about the guy dropping his tools on the concrete is true. I watched him toss his drill on the ground about 10 times and couldn't believe the abuse it was taking.

I think at this price point it just matters which one is on a bigger sale. Got the 8 pc porter cable kit for 279 shipped and for what I need it for I think it will be fine. If ryobi would have been on a better sale, I would have gotten that. It's not like one company over the other has some super secret proprietary technology in them, their built cheap so they can be sold cheap. And I agree with you, If your doing heavy lifting buy a heavy lifter. That's like buying a Mazda Miata and entering it into a NASCAR race, then complaining you got smoked. Sure their both cars, but built for different purposes. Thanks for the video.

When a product works as intended most people won't leave any feedback. Based off the number of units sold vs people who leave comments.
If something isn't working as intended and compounded with poor customer service most people will go out of their way to leave bad reviews.
It's does not negate the fact the tool did fail. The sample size isn't substantial enough to assume the failed product is going to turn to shit not long after purchase by default and for most people.

Just saw this PC kit at Costco for only $229. Would it be worth it at that? Was thinking of getting the larger battery and charger.

Hey Brent, I have some porter cable tools and like them, it really depends on what you're going to do with the set. If it's just for small stuff around the house then I'd say sure, go for it.

@@burbbilly Thanks that is exactly it. I have some corded tools for heavier stuff. I always wind up buying the best and way over my true needs, and trying to find balance. Great videos on these and the other brands btw

It surprises me that porter cable been a Dewalt minor sister, thus'nt match Ryobi. Even though Ridgid been the mayor brother of Ryobi thus'nt match Dewalt yet. One of those things you got keep an eye on the Market.
