I’ve been a carpenter|contractor for 37 years, I’m licensed, BBB A plus rating always....in the trades since 1972......I’ve used Ryobi for a long time and will continue to do so. One drill reversing switch failed. Given the hell my tools endure..thousands of 3” screws driven in 100 degree weather..etc..the durability amazes me. Can’t beat the price point. The expert with his cute little “shop” behind him is entitled to his opinion. I have come to my conclusions in the field....hours and hours of sawdust and sweat.........and pride. Dave Heitman, omaha
I just bought a Ryobi miter saw. It was not very expensive and so far it has worked great. I am just a beginner but I tested various cuts including the bevel. What an awesome tool it is. I'll be looking at table saw soon and I may get Ryobi

Love that the batteries fit new and older tools. Very smart line Ryobi is. Great video. The little radios are sweet. You can plant them all over the property if a baseball game is on in the summer, and with the big boy batteries they go all day.
I’m an electrician and industrial machine technician. I’ve worked in the trades for 35 years and did construction before that. I’ve used nearly every brand of battery tool out there and while Ryobi aren’t the top of the line best of the best I still find them dependable and solid. A professional knows to use a tool for its purpose. I like and use Ryobi tools as well as many others and apply them to the job based upon their strengths and limitations.
In hot weather I work hard in the morning in the cool weather and I have been known to hang out at the stores in the afternoon with a scratchpad designing projects priceing out useing electrical conduit VS PVC plumbing fittings etc I will go there dureing the hottest part of the day get a cold drink and bag of chips and design My projects come home open the house up and vent it while I work in evening cool We hit 116 here in So Calif
I love my ryobi tools. I got a 6 piece set a few years ago. I thought the flash light was going to be the least used part of it. Ends up being my most used tool. I did upgrade the bulb to an LED. So much brighter and battery lasts forever.
Started out using ryobi when i first started out doing home repair then started making money and upgraded to DeWalt, Milwaukee, good tools but expensive and sometimes didn't last. Went back to Ryobi good bang for yoyr buck
Milwaukee was one of the best until they outsourced them. Dewalt is okay, expensive and some issues like switches that go bad discontinued. Ryobi isn't the best bang for the buck; Porter Cable is IMO. Nearing 40 yrs. in remodeing, renovation & repair, I've broken, worn out my share of things. Also, I try not to buy thngs that would hurt me badly when they grow legs and walk away!

That’s funny ,your clearly not a framer or big time remodeler or deck guy...and no way your cordless using PC or Ryobi crap.....Ryobi makes ok specialty tools,glue gun,tire compressor,fan....not real tools....and porta cable was king in the 80’s...not anymore.......Dewalt Flexvolt is unmatched corded or cordless period
yeah I still have my Ryobi circular saw from 1981.Made In Japan.No way in hell you're still going to have this lime green shit for the same length of time.Just another company trading off their past fame.
Those batteries have been 2 for $99 for the last couple years, outside of any sale. The deal this year is 2 for $79 for the Black Friday sale, which is still going on at least through today.
Day or so after I posted this they dropped them to the $79 price point. I had not seen the 2 for $99 deal but had been focusing on watching the tools and kits over the batteries so must have missed it Thanks for the info/post
All good! Yeah, the 2-for-$99 P108 Lithium+ was a Black Friday deal in 2013, and then seems to have become regular price a little bit after BF2014. I haven't seen if there still 2-for $79 in the store, but they've returned to 2-for-$99 on the website. If they're still 2-for-$79 in the store, that would mirror past behavior, they did this same thing after BF2014.
Xenon is there original and the replaced it with this LED version a year ago. Granted Home Depot doesn't seem to like replacements so they will move them to the back of the shelf until they get rid of the old. They did that last year when I wen to get the lantern and I found a new one in the way back of the shelf. I wanted the USB option thats why I wanted the new lantern. Both were the same price.
I worked at superstore many years and in regards to the different locations having different pricing i can only imagine its like at superstore where each dept. manager or sometimes their employees get to a pick a weekly special sales item. Sometimes they get rewarded if the item they chose to push makes a lot of sales for the store. Thats my best guess.
Thanks for the informative video. I've learned that you have to take your time in shopping for this stuff, too. I just bought the 523 Ryobi jig saw. I saw pictures of what I thought was the same saw, but some features were different. I wanted the one that had the light, dust blower, and blade-saver foot feature. To get one with all those features, it cost me around $10 more than a cheaper one that was probably last year's model. I wanted a battery powered jig saw and I already have a battery powered lawn sprayer which works great with the same battery. This jig saw has a lot more features than my old Bosch corded saw. .
Before purchasing ask yourself what am I gonna use it for". Daily use requires more robust tool. Professionals normally need the strongest, sturdiest available.
I make wood crafts as a hobby that I sell at craft events. About 4 or 5 years ago when I got started with my crafts I bought a Ryobi 18 Volt+ drill driver with 2 batteries and a charger. I use the drill a lot...I mean a lot..!! And it's just this past Summer when one of the batteries finally died; the other battery is still good. The chuck is getting some wobble in it but it still works fine for me. So for me, 4 -5 years of daily use is excellent. Also...I worked at a local Home Depot ( Oh, I mean..."The Home Depot"...LOL..) for a couple of years and my department was hardware. I spoke to many manufacturer's reps and learned a lot about the different brands. And guess what..Dewalt is not what they used to be...the quality just isn't there like it used to be....made in China...has replaced some metal gears with plastic gears. Ridgid makes good tools. I needed to get a new 5" random orbit sander because my Ridgid finally burned out after 4-5 years of constant use, so I thought I would try a Dewalt . That was a mistake...that Dewalt vibrated like crazy..! I immediately took it back and bought another Ridgid while my first Ridgid was in the shop getting repaired. The Ridgid runs very smoothly and works great. I also would have construction guys come in and tell me that they preferred their Ryobi drills over their Dewalts because the Ryobi's could take more rough handling. Now from what I learned, the Makita and Milwaukee tools are still great tools....expensive but great. So..just because Ryobi is considered by many to be the cheap entry level tool for the occasional DIY'er...it's usually a very dependable and rugged tool... and especially so for the cost.

I call those guys brand snobs. Most of them don't know the difference between a volt and an amp, let alone explain why they like the brand they do. Black & Decker might be a hobbyist brand, but I have used Ryobi for over 10 years. My first Ryobi tool was a drill and driver set. The driver has more torque than Milwaukee or any other. I switched to Lithium batteries about 5 years ago and they are all still holding up great.
I got the Supercharger and 2 ONE+ Li batteries for $119 on HD website (still up as of 11/28). Also got the new 2200 in-lbs 3 speed impact driver as my FREE tool with the purchase of the hammer drill kit. I noticed the silver/green Ryobi boxes are a newer product line than the dark grey/green boxes even though they all say ONE+ on them. Very confusing when they're displayed right next to each other at home depot.
I was shopping for a cordless drill almost 20 years ago. The salesperson after much persuading, talked me into trying a ryobi. Never looked back. Reliable. All kind of cordless tools. Great price. You can’t go wrong for a casual user.
i have Ryobi. best I've ever owned. I have two batteries that are 5 years old and still going strong. the only gripe i have is that the drill doesn't grip small bits well. they could improve their chuck
Was able to snag that impact wrench for $99 PLUS two 3 am hour lithium + batteries. That thing paid for itself the first time I used it. Pulled out motor mounts, lug nuts, brakes, and struts with it
i like dewalt cordless, brushless, 20v i dont like the price but i got them for christmas, the older ones with the metal chuck, i had to replace the chuck but other than that both batteries, the charger and the drill and the impact work great, never had a problem in atleast 6 years of owning them and i do use them a fair bit, dewalt makes cheeper 12 volt ones that are a great deal and they are best in class, think its like 100 bucks for the set of drill and impact but they are best in class for sure
My first set of lithium tools was DeWalt and the small scream the motor controls made drove my family out of the house and the drill chuck wobbled, so I sent them right back. Tried the Makita set and it was excellent, though pricey. Recently tried a few Ryobi and they have been a reasonable compromise. The brushless drill is very smooth and powerful, but the chuck seems to slip more easily than the old Makita. The little air pump P737 is handy as heck, no one else has anything quite like it. If you want to stretch your tool dollar Ryobi is worth a try. The Xenon lights are very white and broad spectrum, but not as efficient as the LEDs. The LEDs are not as broad spectrum, some things won't look correct in LED light, but for many uses the longer runtime and longer "bulb" life is worth it.
I would rather have Ryobi than all the others. I've had them all . The reason , price...when a ryboi breaks you can go buy another one. When a DeWalt breaks you have to go to the bank and get a second mortgage on your house to pay for it
And the DeWalt will break just as often as the Ryobi. I started using Ryobi after going to a woodworker's trade show at the Long Beach Convention Center. All the manufacturers had their top of the line cordless drill taken completely apart and displayed like an exploded view. Looking at the parts, Bosch was obviously the toughest, but also the most expensive. DeWalt was no better than Ryobi, but cost twice as much. I'll take my two Ryobi drills over one DeWalt any day.
vinylsoup I'm a Makita fan personly but the big difference is Makita now have a 3 year warranty on "all" power tools they sell so if it does brake which it won't you don't have to even play for a new one or for it to be fix. And pluse if it does brake after the three years then you bought it once and could afford it so you should be able to again...
I am sorry your poor and can’t afford the best tools on the market....Dewalt, Flexvolt, but someday if you win the lottery, buy Dewalt cordless tools and they will make you money everyday,faster and more reliable then any other brand but Mafell
I love my ryobi impact wrench! Tons of work on cars, trucks, lawn mowers, atv's, mopeds and such I either couldn't have done or would have had to work a lot harder at without the impact wrench. I have only run into a few bolts that it couldn't break free. Usually a little PB blast would do the trick but once or twice a huge breaker bar had to be used. But that is a couple of bolts out of hundreds that the impact wrench just zips off.
I have had the same results with mine. Done about 4 brake jobs and some other repairs and to date it takes off every bolt I've put it on. Only problem I had was with some torx bolts that started to strip. Had to back off and use a wrench and bar
Ryobi is great for DIYers! May not hold up for professionals who use them heavily every single day, but I love their brand. I also have several garden tools and they are great! Lightweight and all I need to keep my place looking good.

Home Depot is the only authorized Ryobi retailer in the USA. Anyone else selling Ryobi is either selling refurbs or gray/black market stuff. As such, Home Depot will not price match anything Ryobi.
I found that out when I bought a Lincoln welder on sale at Fleet Farm. It was the last one and I was moving into a new shop. I dropped it off and went to the old shop. When I came back mice were running all over the shop. They had built a nest in the welding helmet out of the instruction manual. I took it back and they tried to tell me they could get me a new manual. When I went to Home Depot they not only matched the sale price they took off another 10 percent.

The outlet site is selling the new brushless hammer drill for $149.99, which is the same as the store/online price, and, at least until recently, you got another free tool for buying it in the store/online. For the naysayers: Say whatever you want, but Ryobi is innovating right now, with 100+ tools using the same battery, and it will push other brands to do the same. We, the consumer, all win in the end.
I work at Home Depot in the hardware department. Our Milwaukee rep informed me that Milwaukee actually makes Ryobi. Also one of the biggest recent developments are the new +HP batteries. They have 2 extra contacts that line up with their brushless tools and provide more power than a standard battery. Next time you’re at a Home Depot check out the +hp and compare.
I've used them professionally Outdoors for years. At one time Sears was using their tools and just doing some minor mods and putting their own label on them. The 19. 2 v line. Anyhow I just can't justify paying the prices for the DeWalt tools. My experience has been that any battery you use has to be run absolutely dead every so often to keep their memory wiped. It's nice to be able to buy two replacements for less than the cost of one from the competition. Like I said I have been running them outdoors in all weather for years and have been thoroughly impressed.
The price of the product can be different from store to store due to the distance from the distribution point, and the supply/turnover rate of the product. Hope that makes sense, thanks for your tips!
Was the impact wrench you were talking about for $100 the one with battery not included? Thats what ive noticed out here. The ones with the battery are 30 bucks more but it would be different elsewhere
Have a pretty good collection of Ryobi tools, they are light duty and made the the family handman. I only had one bad experience with Ryobi and that was the 1gal 18 v cordless sprayer. I went through three of them and they longest they lasted was two weeks. Definitely need to re-engineer that tool.
I'm a professional carpenter and all of my tools need to pay their own way. Ryobi is by far the best bargain in cordless tools. They are admittedly not top of the line products, but they do everything that I require, and they do it pretty damned well. I own over 20 of their cordless products, and the only one that I was not satisfied with was the 8" miter saw. As far as batteries go, almost all brands use the same cells inside their packs. I had a case crack open several years ago and there were Sanyo cells inside. Will paying twice as much for a more "prestigious" name give you twice the performance? Absolutely not!
I stopped listening to this guy after 3 min. Was he trashing Ryobi? I'm a Milwaukee guy myself. I feel they are the best tools money can buy. But Ryobi has its place. I own both. My power drills are Milwaukee, everything else is Ryobi. 2 circular saws, flashlight, reciprocating saw, sander, angle grinder, even a little vacuum. And all of them are hand me downs! Just needed new batteries and a charger. Can't hate Riobi. Oh, and I have a cordless tire inflator (size of a drill) I use for my bike.Love it!
I used a 12v Porter Cable when they first came out about 1992. There wasn't much to compare it to, but it did the job. Around 1999 I got an 18 volt Dewalt set. Battery cost is what made me switch to Ryobi. The only blue Ryobi I still use is an impact driver. With lithium batteries it drives better than any other brand I've had the chance to test it against. Ni-cads usually only got two years before they wouldn't hold a decent charge. I still have all the lithium batteries I ever bought, the oldest ones are at least 5 years old and used daily. I never buy batteries because there is always a deal on tools that come with batteries basically giving me the tool for free. The longest life tool and battery I've ever had was a 9.6 volt Makita angle drill and nicad battery that I just got rid of after 18 years. It could sit on my tool cart for six months and be ready when I needed it
yeah wth ever.. I'm a welder/metal worker.. Have Dewalt/Milwalk/ryobi the ryobi has out lasted them all, not to mention Ryobi is the only brand that you can use the same battery on the tools no matter what year the battery was made or tool. I have original Ryobi 18volt batteries that fit my just bought today caulking gun.. who else can say that about dewalt or others without buying an adapter
John Kelly, I use my Ryobi tools on the job, and have never had a problem with them after years of use. You go ahead and pay more, because you're obviously a "professional."
i didnt have a chance to use a ryobi but as a technician ill choose a makita, dewalt or bosch for the availability of spare parts if its damage its easy to repair that makes a sense
I've been running my dewalt old style big battery 18v cordless tools now for atleast 8 yrs maybe more never actually thought about it.. Sure I've went through some batteries and I'm not in commercial work but i build a lot shit and these have never left me down. Only problem is there getting hard to find.
Where I am, about an hour north of San Francisco, Interstate Batteries carries quite few different Ni--Cad & Li-ion battery packs. The only difference I've found is that the different tool manufacturers have their own molded ribs/guides/whatever-you-want-to-call-them but the packages themselves are nearly identical. I've been tempted to just grind off that stupid extra rib and use the batteries I have. They work just fine and it's really annoying to have to buy three different batteries when the only difference is that the marketing department got in the middle of the project!
To answer your question about the difference between stores is 1. one store may gotten the word to change their display and other may not get for another week. 2 Or they may have crews that go around to the stores and update different displays.
Great video!! Reason for price differences....Different stores have different independent owners and can set their own prices. Also, they have different weekly sales that may not be in the flyer. When online at homedepot.com (.ca)....change your local store to see the different sales at all stores.

I saw that deal the other day, they dropped the price on the quiet strike impact driver as well. I've been using the impact wrench and so far I really like it. Have done a couple brake jobs and some other repairs, has performed well
Most home owners and DIY folks are satisfied with Ryobi because of the 100+ tools using the same battery platform. From outdoor & indoor activities tools and equipments to DIY carpentry, auto repairs, and power plumbing tools all uses the same battery platform with the same charger. No other big names companies can match it with the amount of veriety tools Ryobi has to offer. Those big names premium profesional grade tools were great, powerful, and worth the $$$ when your bread and butter depends on them. But the end of the day you still needs some daily housekeeping or household equipments and tools. That where Ryobi shines. Housewife, husband and older kids can use different options of tools for their daily lives. This same battery platform with the same charger for convenience to all Ryobi is hard to beat.
Same here! I agree 100% and it's the big draw for me to Ryobi. I sometimes use my Ryobi tools to make money doing handyman work for others but it's not a full time profession for me and I love the fact that they have so many tools I can continue to use those batteries with in other areas of life. The achilles heel with ANY cordless tools are the batteries; use it or lose it. Ryobi makes camping lanterns, high pressure tire inflator, transfer pump, stick vac, RC trucks- you name it, all running on that same 18v platform which they have kept to the same form factor for years. None of the pro brands have been that loyal to their users. I know pros who are worried about their image and buy the most expensive tools they can afford because they want to impress their customers, and maybe their tools will last longer with the constant day-in, day-out use, but for the rest of us who want a platform to use across all of our lives, you can't do any better than Ryobi.
I've been in construction for over 40 years and Ryobi is my go to choice for cordless tools. They do everything I need at half the price and are not as likely to be stolen as the more expensive brands.
@@seanhartman6496 Hate to admit it but true. I bought all Ridgid gear because of the lifetime warranty and forgot to register everything. So now I'm stuck with drills and batteries that are defective. I bought a stupid "as seen on tv" Hawk inflator that broke the second time I used it. I hoped that Ridgid could make something like that. I looked up on like for a Ridgid one but ran into Ryobi. With the promo Home Depot had running I jumped shipped and bought some items. I'm giving them a try to see if they can do good enough.
Luis Sonoma I am not sure if you knew this but both Ryobi and Ridgid tools here in the U.S. are made on license by the same Hong Kong company, TTI. They also make Milwaukee tools as well. If you watch, you’ll notice that all three of those brands will usually come out with the same new tool at around the same time, although the plethora of tools seems to belong first to Ryobi followed by Milwaukee. The different lines are made to different price points. The odd one out is Ridgid which is made exclusively for Home Depot to their specs. I lived in Japan a long time where the Ryobi parent company still makes their own tools for sale in Japan. Logo is the same but the colors are completely different. Even saw DeWalt’s 12v line rebranded there as Ryobi. Exact same drill and impact driver, just in a more Makita like color.
Hey guys! So... I’m getting into Hvac work and I was wondering what type of power tools I should have? Or if I would even need power tools? Again, just getting into the field like I said so please excuse me for not being very knowledgeable. Are things like the Ryobi impact and drill okay to get because there’s a set at my local Home Depot I had my eye on, because in my opinion those seem pretty much like basic power tools to own anyway. 🤷🏻♂️ If anyone could get back to me with advice and an answer to that it would be fantastic. Andrew I have a few thoughts here and am planning on doing a video about this exact situation. Keep an eye out on the channel for it. I would tell you though that if you bought Ryobi to get started I don't think you'd go wrong. There are some down sides to the tools and some upsides, price being a big one.
There's several inpact drivers. I had just seen three different one's on display ànd they're all different than the one that I had gotten in the kit last year. The driver that I have is only for wood work. I didn't know this was the case before I got it.
There are 2 different kits on sale with the same 3 speed 1/2" impact wrench, a 4ah battery and charger. The one for $100 has a regular rather than high speed charger and an odd version of the 4AH battery which is marked Lithium rather than Lithium+. This is the version my store carried and I bought. I suspect the cells in the odd pack are cheaper but did not check if the warranty is any different.

The battery is model p197, it is marked 4.0ah/72wh just like the p108. Comparing with a p108 bought last year it has a few difference on the outside. aside from having the lithium rather than lithium+ logo. Six tools instead of 4 appear on the sticker around the stem, the stem is black plastic instead of green, there is plain black plastic instead of the silver band and the main power contacts are textured with a square pattern. UL certified logo on the bottom sticker of the p107 too, pretty sure that's on the new p108s as well, same patent number.
Looks like the $100 special buy version is no longer listed on the home depot site. Must have been a black friday special with limited quantity. You can find people reselling them with a ridiculous markup on Ebay still, search the part no. for the kit P1833 and you'll see pics there. Also found the P197 battery on fleabay, with and without a charger, probably pulled from special buy kits. Home Depot site still lists the $130 special buy version P1890 which is similar to the non-special buy kit P1830; both include P261 impact wrench and a P108 battery, but have different chargers. They put the p118 common kit charger in the both special buy kits and a p117 high speed charger in the $170 kit.
I had Dewalt, Milwaukee and Bosch for over 6 yrs now none of them burnt-out. I just bought green ryobi hammer drill and older dark blue cut out toll and both smoked...yeah my 18v green sprayer died too last summer.... No more ryobi.
They make a xenon and led model and I have both. Yes the led run time is way better. Also to consider is the xenon bulb wears down and as it wears it gets dimmer and the led doesn't wear like that. My xenon is barely used and my led seems much brighter when both are side by side. Also the led has a low and high mode and in low it's still pretty bright and the run time is more than I can ever use on a 4 ah battery. Also the led work light is bright and has a nice wide even light spread for working outside. The spotlight shines across a 40 acre field easily and bright. I'd recommend both the led lights.
Thanks Brandon, good post/info I have the same opinion of the spotlight. Will shine across and light up a field easily. Have not used the spotlight yet but plan on adding it to my kit
Oh and one more thing. The xenon require a 30 second up to 2 min warm up time before they're full brightness. The LED is full brightness right away. The only thing the xenon has better than the led is after the full warm up it is more concentrated and will shine further but the LED like I said will still shine plumb across 40 acre plot easy. To me it's not worth the warm up time plus I like seeing a much wider area lit up with the led. But I guess if you absolutely only care about how far it'll shine and are willing to stand for a couple minutes with it on to get there then the xenon is what you'll want. But the xenon don't shine that much further anyway and to me isn't worth the many many negatives. Plus I like the impact resistance of the LED, two brightness modes, and much better battery run time even when left on high even for better assurance I'll have light. With the LED I have no need for a flashlight. With the xenon I was constantly taking a flashlight to go walking around for a couple hours for when the battery ran dead.
The only tool i buy of that brand is an angle grinder that works awesome....with a cheap price tag and a swivle handle...its the best one on the market...only been replaced when stolen or lost never broke
I've purchased Ryobi for years now - since they were blue with NiCad batteries. These latest tools I bought from them that came with a battery - none of those batteries lasted a year. It has me looking into other brands now.
I've had Ryobi tools but Makita is the best last Makita drill I bought from a pawn shop for $50 and charged the batteries which it came with 3 let it sit for a year went to use it and they were still charged it will run all day putting 3" deck screws in on one battery
I have a bunch of Ryobi tools and think they are all really good. The issue I have is with the batteries. I have 10 batteries (18V) and only 4 of them work. The others give me the error light after putting them in the charger. The batteries range in age from 1 year old to 7 years old. Have tried taking the bad ones back but the Depot will not warranty them. Have others had the same issues with batteries? Really getting frustrated with Ryobi and Home Depot.
Ryobi is always updating models and HD will often stock both the new and the old item, as you point out. I have the old Xenon, and have been thinking about about upgrading, but I also have the Ryobi P720 Portable LED and at 1800 lumens it's already pretty bright. Also, the pricing is crazy as well. If I'm not in need of a tool right now, I just put a price watch on it, and it usually ends up on sale. You can also pick up some crazy deals on refurbished/blemished tools if you have a Direct Tool outlet near you, but the warranties and return policies are usually much stricter, but I'm usually ok with it. If it breaks, well, then time to get another tool!
I own ryobi, dewalt, rigid, Makita, you name it tools, the old saying is you get what you pay for, which usually holds true, however I can't talk bad about ryobi, they're actually starting to lead the way in being innovative, new designs, new tools. I understand the haters out there I really do, but truth is ryobi is really great tools for a decent price. Hell I prefer their nailgun over dewalt no bs
Couldn’t have said it better. 100 percent you get what you pay for but Ryobi is putting out a tool line that has more options than most of the other tool lines and they hold up. The set I have is over a year old now and still going strong.

New yellow colour, the ones sold here tend to be red. As to the price differences that really is store sales volume thing, the bigger volume stores fall into different internal categories for pricing and promo items they will get, they are all profitable for the store, just the volume determines the mark up applied. Good tip though on shopping around, but here I do not have that much variety of that type of store, though I have a local non chain hardware shop near that is almost always cheaper on paint than the big guys, just because he is prepared to live with a smaller profit margin. Just for fun, no-one here stocks a UNC 10-24 1.5in long capscrew, looking for 4 in stainless. Stock at all local suppliers nada in any type or size. Must be similar in the USA for metric fasteners, where you have only a limited range.
I have never had a problem locating screws, might be because I'm in the midwest. This area used to be a major manufacturing area, lots of machine shops. Home Depot by me carries those but the button heads. I'd have to look a bit for the socket heads. As far as the red ryobi's go....I talked with a rep today. He had not heard they were red overseas. Said they ran blue and now run all product this yellow/green color. I actually like this color better than their old blue one.
Are you talking the 300 foot pound one? I only have a pancake compressor in my garage, so it doesn't drive my impact wrenches well at only 90 psi & 4 cfm.
Each home depot is run as an independent store - it used to be that each store had it's own SKUs but they were forced to change this when they started to sell online....
I don't have any Ryobi tools but the information is top notch, I stopped buying tools ( if at all possible) many years ago. I do a lot of research and look on Amazon first as they are usually the best price, not always but as you stated Home Depot is unreliable.
To confuse you even more, taxes vary depending on the county you are in. One HD near us has an 8.63% tax. A few miles away another smaller older HD is on Res Land, their tax rate is several cents less.
are you sure they were the same impact? they have the brushless and the brushed models out and they are relatively subtle markings compared to milwaukee putting a huge FUEL across the brushless gear. (and dewalt is even more subtle "huh wtf is xr"
They were the same. It was a black friday thing and then it looks like it got extended with "special" boxes for these sets. I had to get one at that price. :-) I think the 300 ft lbs will be enough for most of what I do and I already have enough batteries with the other tools I have so it made a nice addition to my tool kit. I hear you on the markings as well, I've picked stuff up and then gone "oh this is brushless.." that's why it's so much more lol

I've purchased a fair amount of Ryobi and for the price I paid, not too bad. I sand small wood blocks for a rubber stamp company I have and I've been using the same desk top belt sander for about 8 years. I've gone thought a handful of the rubber drive belts but the motor keeps pushing along. Not bad for the $110 I spent way back when. The cheap $100 10" table saw took my abuse for 6 years too. Not the most accurate cuts and loud as all get out but for the price, not bad. I bought the cheap bandsaw, drill press, and scroll saw. I sold the drill press since I only used it a couple times. The scroll saw and band saw are great for the prices too. Back in 2008ish they were all just about $100 each. Best way to get your introductory woodworking tools if you want new stuff. Oh yeah, my ryobi planer is aces too for the $200 I paid for that too.
I’ve been a carpenter|contractor for 37 years, I’m licensed, BBB A plus rating always....in the trades since 1972......I’ve used Ryobi for a long time and will continue to do so. One drill reversing switch failed. Given the hell my tools endure..thousands of 3” screws driven in 100 degree weather..etc..the durability amazes me. Can’t beat the price point. I just bought a Ryobi miter saw. It was not very expensive and so far it has worked great. I am just a beginner but I tested various cuts including the bevel. What an awesome tool it is. I'll be looking at table saw soon and I may get Ryobi

I’m an electrician and industrial machine technician. I’ve worked in the trades for 35 years and did construction before that. I’ve used nearly every brand of battery tool out there and while Ryobi aren’t the top of the line best of the best I still find them dependable and solid. A professional knows to use a tool for its purpose. I like and use Ryobi tools as well as many others and apply them to the job based upon their strengths and limitations.

In hot weather I work hard in the morning in the cool weather and I have been known to hang out at the stores in the afternoon with a scratchpad designing projects priceing out useing electrical conduit VS PVC plumbing fittings etc I will go there dureing the hottest part of the day get a cold drink and bag of chips and design My projects come home open the house up and vent it while I work in evening cool

I love my ryobi tools. I got a 6 piece set a few years ago. I thought the flash light was going to be the least used part of it. Ends up being my most used tool. I did upgrade the bulb to an LED. So much brighter and battery lasts forever.
Started out using ryobi when i first started out doing home repair then started making money and upgraded to DeWalt, Milwaukee, good tools but expensive and sometimes didn't last. Went back to Ryobi good bang for yoyr buck

Milwaukee was one of the best until they outsourced them. Dewalt is okay, expensive and some issues like switches that go bad discontinued. Ryobi isn't the best bang for the buck; Porter Cable is IMO. Nearing 40 yrs. in remodeing, renovation & repair, I've broken, worn out my share of things.
Also, I try not to buy thngs that would hurt me badly when they grow legs and walk away!

Those batteries have been 2 for $99 for the last couple years, outside of any sale. The deal this year is 2 for $79 for the Black Friday sale, which is still going on at least through today.

They haven't. They did do a 4-pack of the P107 Compact Lithium+ batteries for $99 recently.
All good! Yeah, the 2-for-$99 P108 Lithium+ was a Black Friday deal in 2013, and then seems to have become regular price a little bit after BF2014.
I haven't seen if there still 2-for $79 in the store, but they've returned to 2-for-$99 on the website. If they're still 2-for-$79 in the store, that would mirror past behavior, they did this same thing after BF2014.
Xenon is there original and the replaced it with this LED version a year ago. Granted Home Depot doesn't seem to like replacements so they will move them to the back of the shelf until they get rid of the old. They did that last year when I wen to get the lantern and I found a new one in the way back of the shelf. I wanted the USB option thats why I wanted the new lantern. Both were the same price.
I worked at superstore many years and in regards to the different locations having different pricing i can only imagine its like at superstore where each dept. manager or sometimes their employees get to a pick a weekly special sales item. Sometimes they get rewarded if the item they chose to push makes a lot of sales for the store. Thats my best guess.

Thanks for the informative video. I've learned that you have to take your time in shopping for this stuff, too. I just bought the 523 Ryobi jig saw. I saw pictures of what I thought was the same saw, but some features were different. I wanted the one that had the light, dust blower, and blade-saver foot feature. To get one with all those features, it cost me around $10 more than a cheaper one that was probably last year's model. I wanted a battery powered jig saw and I already have a battery powered lawn sprayer which works great with the same battery. This jig saw has a lot more features than my old Bosch corded saw. .

Before purchasing ask yourself what am I gonna use it for". Daily use requires more robust tool. Professionals normally need the strongest, sturdiest available.
I make wood crafts as a hobby that I sell at craft events. About 4 or 5 years ago when I got started with my crafts I bought a Ryobi 18 Volt+ drill driver with 2 batteries and a charger. I use the drill a lot...I mean a lot..!! And it's just this past Summer when one of the batteries finally died; the other battery is still good. The chuck is getting some wobble in it but it still works fine for me. So for me, 4 -5 years of daily use is excellent. Also...I worked at a local Home Depot ( Oh, I mean..."The Home Depot"...LOL..) for a couple of years and my department was hardware. I spoke to many manufacturer's reps and learned a lot about the different brands. And guess what..Dewalt is not what they used to be...the quality just isn't there like it used to be....made in China...has replaced some metal gears with plastic gears. Ridgid makes good tools. I needed to get a new 5" random orbit sander because my Ridgid finally burned out after 4-5 years of constant use, so I thought I would try a Dewalt . That was a mistake...that Dewalt vibrated like crazy..! I immediately took it back and bought another Ridgid while my first Ridgid was in the shop getting repaired. The Ridgid runs very smoothly and works great. I also would have construction guys come in and tell me that they preferred their Ryobi drills over their Dewalts because the Ryobi's could take more rough handling. Now from what I learned, the Makita and Milwaukee tools are still great tools....expensive but great. So..just because Ryobi is considered by many to be the cheap entry level tool for the occasional DIY'er...it's usually a very dependable and rugged tool... and especially so for the cost.

I call those guys brand snobs. Most of them don't know the difference between a volt and an amp, let alone explain why they like the brand they do. Black & Decker might be a hobbyist brand, but I have used Ryobi for over 10 years. My first Ryobi tool was a drill and driver set. The driver has more torque than Milwaukee or any other. I switched to Lithium batteries about 5 years ago and they are all still holding up great.
Great to know, most of my gear is Ryobi, was going to upgrade but I'll stick to Ryobi now and check out Rigid.
I got the Supercharger and 2 ONE+ Li batteries for $119 on HD website (still up as of 11/28). Also got the new 2200 in-lbs 3 speed impact driver as my FREE tool with the purchase of the hammer drill kit. I noticed the silver/green Ryobi boxes are a newer product line than the dark grey/green boxes even though they all say ONE+ on them. Very confusing when they're displayed right next to each other at home depot.

Was able to snag that impact wrench for $99 PLUS two 3 am hour lithium + batteries. That thing paid for itself the first time I used it. Pulled out motor mounts, lug nuts, brakes, and struts with it
i like dewalt cordless, brushless, 20v i dont like the price but i got them for christmas, the older ones with the metal chuck, i had to replace the chuck but other than that both batteries, the charger and the drill and the impact work great, never had a problem in atleast 6 years of owning them and i do use them a fair bit, dewalt makes cheeper 12 volt ones that are a great deal and they are best in class, think its like 100 bucks for the set of drill and impact but they are best in class for sure

My first set of lithium tools was DeWalt and the small scream the motor controls made drove my family out of the house and the drill chuck wobbled, so I sent them right back. Tried the Makita set and it was excellent, though pricey. Recently tried a few Ryobi and they have been a reasonable compromise. The brushless drill is very smooth and powerful, but the chuck seems to slip more easily than the old Makita. The little air pump P737 is handy as heck, no one else has anything quite like it. If you want to stretch your tool dollar Ryobi is worth a try. The Xenon lights are very white and broad spectrum, but not as efficient as the LEDs. The LEDs are not as broad spectrum, some things won't look correct in LED light, but for many uses the longer runtime and longer "bulb" life is worth it.
So far I hope Ryobi keeps up with hyibrid tools they are awesome and nice
I would rather have Ryobi than all the others. I've had them all . The reason , price...when a ryboi breaks you can go buy another one. When a DeWalt breaks you have to go to the bank and get a second mortgage on your house to pay for it
And the DeWalt will break just as often as the Ryobi. I started using Ryobi after going to a woodworker's trade show at the Long Beach Convention Center. All the manufacturers had their top of the line cordless drill taken completely apart and displayed like an exploded view. Looking at the parts, Bosch was obviously the toughest, but also the most expensive. DeWalt was no better than Ryobi, but cost twice as much. I'll take my two Ryobi drills over one DeWalt any day.
vinylsoup I'm a Makita fan personly but the big difference is Makita now have a 3 year warranty on "all" power tools they sell so if it does brake which it won't you don't have to even play for a new one or for it to be fix. And pluse if it does brake after the three years then you bought it once and could afford it so you should be able to again...

I love my ryobi impact wrench! Tons of work on cars, trucks, lawn mowers, atv's, mopeds and such I either couldn't have done or would have had to work a lot harder at without the impact wrench. I have only run into a few bolts that it couldn't break free. Usually a little PB blast would do the trick but once or twice a huge breaker bar had to be used. But that is a couple of bolts out of hundreds that the impact wrench just zips off.
I have had the same results with mine. Done about 4 brake jobs and some other repairs and to date it takes off every bolt I've put it on. Only problem I had was with some torx bolts that started to strip. Had to back off and use a wrench and bar
Ryobi is great for DIYers! May not hold up for professionals who use them heavily every single day, but I love their brand. I also have several garden tools and they are great! Lightweight and all I need to keep my place looking good.

Home Depot is the only authorized Ryobi retailer in the USA. Anyone else selling Ryobi is either selling refurbs or gray/black market stuff. As such, Home Depot will not price match anything Ryobi.
Direct tool has good deals on refurbished Ryobi tools and I believe they sell some new also. I've had very good luck with refurbs.
I found that out when I bought a Lincoln welder on sale at Fleet Farm. It was the last one and I was moving into a new shop. I dropped it off and went to the old shop. When I came back mice were running all over the shop. They had built a nest in the welding helmet out of the instruction manual. I took it back and they tried to tell me they could get me a new manual. When I went to Home Depot they not only matched the sale price they took off another 10 percent.

For the naysayers: Say whatever you want, but Ryobi is innovating right now, with 100+ tools using the same battery, and it will push other brands to do the same. We, the consumer, all win in the end.
I work at Home Depot in the hardware department. Our Milwaukee rep informed me that Milwaukee actually makes Ryobi. Also one of the biggest recent developments are the new +HP batteries. They have 2 extra contacts that line up with their brushless tools and provide more power than a standard battery. Next time you’re at a Home Depot check out the +hp and compare.
I've used them professionally Outdoors for years. At one time Sears was using their tools and just doing some minor mods and putting their own label on them. The 19. 2 v line. Anyhow I just can't justify paying the prices for the DeWalt tools. My experience has been that any battery you use has to be run absolutely dead every so often to keep their memory wiped. It's nice to be able to buy two replacements for less than the cost of one from the competition. Like I said I have been running them outdoors in all weather for years and have been thoroughly impressed.

Have a pretty good collection of Ryobi tools, they are light duty and made the the family handman. I only had one bad experience with Ryobi and that was the 1gal 18 v cordless sprayer. I went through three of them and they longest they lasted was two weeks. Definitely need to re-engineer that tool.

I'm a professional carpenter and all of my tools need to pay their own way. Ryobi is by far the best bargain in cordless tools. They are admittedly not top of the line products, but they do everything that I require, and they do it pretty damned well. I own over 20 of their cordless products, and the only one that I was not satisfied with was the 8" miter saw. As far as batteries go, almost all brands use the same cells inside their packs. I had a case crack open several years ago and there were Sanyo cells inside. Will paying twice as much for a more "prestigious" name give you twice the performance? Absolutely not!

My power drills are Milwaukee, everything else is Ryobi. 2 circular saws, flashlight, reciprocating saw, sander, angle grinder, even a little vacuum. And all of them are hand me downs! Just needed new batteries and a charger. Can't hate Riobi. Oh, and I have a cordless tire inflator (size of a drill) I use for my bike.Love it!
I used a 12v Porter Cable when they first came out about 1992. There wasn't much to compare it to, but it did the job. Around 1999 I got an 18 volt Dewalt set. Battery cost is what made me switch to Ryobi. The only blue Ryobi I still use is an impact driver. With lithium batteries it drives better than any other brand I've had the chance to test it against. Ni-cads usually only got two years before they wouldn't hold a decent charge. I still have all the lithium batteries I ever bought, the oldest ones are at least 5 years old and used daily. I never buy batteries because there is always a deal on tools that come with batteries basically giving me the tool for free. The longest life tool and battery I've ever had was a 9.6 volt Makita angle drill and nicad battery that I just got rid of after 18 years. It could sit on my tool cart for six months and be ready when I needed it
yeah wth ever.. I'm a welder/metal worker.. Have Dewalt/Milwalk/ryobi the ryobi has out lasted them all, not to mention Ryobi is the only brand that you can use the same battery on the tools no matter what year the battery was made or tool. I have original Ryobi 18volt batteries that fit my just bought today caulking gun.. who else can say that about dewalt or others without buying an adapter

I've been running my dewalt old style big battery 18v cordless tools now for atleast 8 yrs maybe more never actually thought about it.. Sure I've went through some batteries and I'm not in commercial work but i build a lot shit and these have never left me down. Only problem is there getting hard to find.
Ryobi tools work well enough for the DIY stuff I do, as well as fitting in my (not very big) budget. I'm fine with them not being the best.
Where I am, about an hour north of San Francisco, Interstate Batteries carries quite few different Ni--Cad & Li-ion battery packs. The only difference I've found is that the different tool manufacturers have their own molded ribs/guides/whatever-you-want-to-call-them but the packages themselves are nearly identical. I've been tempted to just grind off that stupid extra rib and use the batteries I have. They work just fine and it's really annoying to have to buy three different batteries when the only difference is that the marketing department got in the middle of the project!
To answer your question about the difference between stores is 1. one store may gotten the word to change their display and other may not get for another week. 2 Or they may have crews that go around to the stores and update different displays.

Most home owners and DIY folks are satisfied with Ryobi because of the 100+ tools using the same battery platform.
From outdoor & indoor activities tools and equipments to DIY carpentry, auto repairs, and power plumbing tools all uses the same battery platform with the same charger.
No other big names companies can match it with the amount of veriety tools Ryobi has to offer.
Those big names premium profesional grade tools were great, powerful, and worth the $$$ when your bread and butter depends on them.
But the end of the day you still needs some daily housekeeping or household equipments and tools. That where Ryobi shines. Housewife, husband and older kids can use different options of tools for their daily lives.
This same battery platform with the same charger for convenience to all Ryobi is hard to beat.

Same here! I agree 100% and it's the big draw for me to Ryobi. I sometimes use my Ryobi tools to make money doing handyman work for others but it's not a full time profession for me and I love the fact that they have so many tools I can continue to use those batteries with in other areas of life. The achilles heel with ANY cordless tools are the batteries; use it or lose it. Ryobi makes camping lanterns, high pressure tire inflator, transfer pump, stick vac, RC trucks- you name it, all running on that same 18v platform which they have kept to the same form factor for years. None of the pro brands have been that loyal to their users. I know pros who are worried about their image and buy the most expensive tools they can afford because they want to impress their customers, and maybe their tools will last longer with the constant day-in, day-out use, but for the rest of us who want a platform to use across all of our lives, you can't do any better than Ryobi.
I've been in construction for over 40 years and Ryobi is my go to choice for cordless tools. They do everything I need at half the price and are not as likely to be stolen as the more expensive brands.
@@seanhartman6496 Hate to admit it but true. I bought all Ridgid gear because of the lifetime warranty and forgot to register everything. So now I'm stuck with drills and batteries that are defective. I bought a stupid "as seen on tv" Hawk inflator that broke the second time I used it. I hoped that Ridgid could make something like that. I looked up on like for a Ridgid one but ran into Ryobi. With the promo Home Depot had running I jumped shipped and bought some items. I'm giving them a try to see if they can do good enough.
Luis Sonoma I am not sure if you knew this but both Ryobi and Ridgid tools here in the U.S. are made on license by the same Hong Kong company, TTI. They also make Milwaukee tools as well. If you watch, you’ll notice that all three of those brands will usually come out with the same new tool at around the same time, although the plethora of tools seems to belong first to Ryobi followed by Milwaukee. The different lines are made to different price points. The odd one out is Ridgid which is made exclusively for Home Depot to their specs. I lived in Japan a long time where the Ryobi parent company still makes their own tools for sale in Japan. Logo is the same but the colors are completely different. Even saw DeWalt’s 12v line rebranded there as Ryobi. Exact same drill and impact driver, just in a more Makita like color.
I am just a basic work around the house guy who does occasional woodworking projects and Ryobi stuff works great for me.
Hey guys! So... I’m getting into Hvac work and I was wondering what type of power tools I should have? Or if I would even need power tools? Again, just getting into the field like I said so please excuse me for not being very knowledgeable. Are things like the Ryobi impact and drill okay to get because there’s a set at my local Home Depot I had my eye on, because in my opinion those seem pretty much like basic power tools to own anyway. 🤷🏻♂️ If anyone could get back to me with advice and an answer to that it would be fantastic. Andrew I have a few thoughts here and am planning on doing a video about this exact situation. Keep an eye out on the channel for it. I would tell you though that if you bought Ryobi to get started I don't think you'd go wrong. There are some down sides to the tools and some upsides, price being a big one.

There's several inpact drivers. I had just seen three different one's on display ànd they're all different than the one that I had gotten in the kit last year. The driver that I have is only for wood work. I didn't know this was the case before I got it.

There are 2 different kits on sale with the same 3 speed 1/2" impact wrench, a 4ah battery and charger. The one for $100 has a regular rather than high speed charger and an odd version of the 4AH battery which is marked Lithium rather than Lithium+. This is the version my store carried and I bought. I suspect the cells in the odd pack are cheaper but did not check if the warranty is any different.

If it's marked Lithium, and not Lithium+, then it's not the 4AH battery (a P108), but rather, the older P104 or P105 battery that is around 2.4Ah.
The battery is model p197, it is marked 4.0ah/72wh just like the p108. Comparing with a p108 bought last year it has a few difference on the outside. aside from having the lithium rather than lithium+ logo. Six tools instead of 4 appear on the sticker around the stem, the stem is black plastic instead of green, there is plain black plastic instead of the silver band and the main power contacts are textured with a square pattern. UL certified logo on the bottom sticker of the p107 too, pretty sure that's on the new p108s as well, same patent number.

Looks like the $100 special buy version is no longer listed on the home depot site. Must have been a black friday special with limited quantity. You can find people reselling them with a ridiculous markup on Ebay still, search the part no. for the kit P1833 and you'll see pics there. Also found the P197 battery on fleabay, with and without a charger, probably pulled from special buy kits. Home Depot site still lists the $130 special buy version P1890 which is similar to the non-special buy kit P1830; both include P261 impact wrench and a P108 battery, but have different chargers. They put the p118 common kit charger in the both special buy kits and a p117 high speed charger in the $170 kit.
I had Dewalt, Milwaukee and Bosch for over 6 yrs now none of them burnt-out. I just bought green ryobi hammer drill and older dark blue cut out toll and both smoked...yeah my 18v green sprayer died too last summer.... No more ryobi.
They make a xenon and led model and I have both. Yes the led run time is way better. Also to consider is the xenon bulb wears down and as it wears it gets dimmer and the led doesn't wear like that. My xenon is barely used and my led seems much brighter when both are side by side. Also the led has a low and high mode and in low it's still pretty bright and the run time is more than I can ever use on a 4 ah battery. Also the led work light is bright and has a nice wide even light spread for working outside. The spotlight shines across a 40 acre field easily and bright. I'd recommend both the led lights.

Oh and one more thing. The xenon require a 30 second up to 2 min warm up time before they're full brightness. The LED is full brightness right away. The only thing the xenon has better than the led is after the full warm up it is more concentrated and will shine further but the LED like I said will still shine plumb across 40 acre plot easy. To me it's not worth the warm up time plus I like seeing a much wider area lit up with the led. But I guess if you absolutely only care about how far it'll shine and are willing to stand for a couple minutes with it on to get there then the xenon is what you'll want. But the xenon don't shine that much further anyway and to me isn't worth the many many negatives. Plus I like the impact resistance of the LED, two brightness modes, and much better battery run time even when left on high even for better assurance I'll have light. With the LED I have no need for a flashlight. With the xenon I was constantly taking a flashlight to go walking around for a couple hours for when the battery ran dead.
For my budget the best quality is ryobi, have made a bunch of projects and put in some good use on them and they so far keep cranking!

There are 2 versions of the 1/2inch impact wrench. one has only 200ft lbs. of torque and the new one has 300ft lbs.
I just got the drill and impact driver for 99$ package for ryobi today from home depot....a steal
Also watch out since the sets often don't contain the exact same tools you may get separately.
The only tool i buy of that brand is an angle grinder that works awesome....with a cheap price tag and a swivle handle...its the best one on the market...only been replaced when stolen or lost never broke
I've purchased Ryobi for years now - since they were blue with NiCad batteries. These latest tools I bought from them that came with a battery - none of those batteries lasted a year. It has me looking into other brands now.
I've had Ryobi tools but Makita is the best last Makita drill I bought from a pawn shop for $50 and charged the batteries which it came with 3 let it sit for a year went to use it and they were still charged it will run all day putting 3" deck screws in on one battery

I have a bunch of Ryobi tools and think they are all really good. The issue I have is with the batteries. I have 10 batteries (18V) and only 4 of them work. The others give me the error light after putting them in the charger. The batteries range in age from 1 year old to 7 years old. Have tried taking the bad ones back but the Depot will not warranty them. Have others had the same issues with batteries? Really getting frustrated with Ryobi and Home Depot.
I own both and the LED is significantly brighter.
Ryobi is always updating models and HD will often stock both the new and the old item, as you point out. I have the old Xenon, and have been thinking about about upgrading, but I also have the Ryobi P720 Portable LED and at 1800 lumens it's already pretty bright.
Also, the pricing is crazy as well. If I'm not in need of a tool right now, I just put a price watch on it, and it usually ends up on sale. You can also pick up some crazy deals on refurbished/blemished tools if you have a Direct Tool outlet near you, but the warranties and return policies are usually much stricter, but I'm usually ok with it. If it breaks, well, then time to get another tool!
I own ryobi, dewalt, rigid, Makita, you name it tools, the old saying is you get what you pay for, which usually holds true, however I can't talk bad about ryobi, they're actually starting to lead the way in being innovative, new designs, new tools. I understand the haters out there I really do, but truth is ryobi is really great tools for a decent price. Hell I prefer their nailgun over dewalt no bs
Couldn’t have said it better. 100 percent you get what you pay for but Ryobi is putting out a tool line that has more options than most of the other tool lines and they hold up. The set I have is over a year old now and still going strong.

New yellow colour, the ones sold here tend to be red. As to the price differences that really is store sales volume thing, the bigger volume stores fall into different internal categories for pricing and promo items they will get, they are all profitable for the store, just the volume determines the mark up applied.
Good tip though on shopping around, but here I do not have that much variety of that type of store, though I have a local non chain hardware shop near that is almost always cheaper on paint than the big guys, just because he is prepared to live with a smaller profit margin.
Just for fun, no-one here stocks a UNC 10-24 1.5in long capscrew, looking for 4 in stainless. Stock at all local suppliers nada in any type or size. Must be similar in the USA for metric fasteners, where you have only a limited range.
I have never had a problem locating screws, might be because I'm in the midwest. This area used to be a major manufacturing area, lots of machine shops. Home Depot by me carries those but the button heads. I'd have to look a bit for the socket heads.
As far as the red ryobi's go....I talked with a rep today. He had not heard they were red overseas. Said they ran blue and now run all product this yellow/green color. I actually like this color better than their old blue one.
That impact gun is a damn good tool. I use (abuse) mine daily in my auto shop. I barely hook up my air impact anymore.

Are you talking the 300 foot pound one? I only have a pancake compressor in my garage, so it doesn't drive my impact wrenches well at only 90 psi & 4 cfm.
I just bought that impact today.
Each home depot is run as an independent store - it used to be that each store had it's own SKUs but they were forced to change this when they started to sell online....
Love my Ryobi stuff but I have had a crap luck with the batteries, I’ve lost all my 18 and 16v batteries within 2 years. 😩
I don't have any Ryobi tools but the information is top notch, I stopped buying tools ( if at all possible) many years ago. I do a lot of research and look on Amazon first as they are usually the best price, not always but as you stated Home Depot is unreliable.

To confuse you even more, taxes vary depending on the county you are in. One HD near us has an 8.63% tax. A few miles away another smaller older HD is on Res Land, their tax rate is several cents less.
Tried them all throughout the years, went with Dewalt. Ryobi would be my number one pick as far as budget tools.

are you sure they were the same impact? they have the brushless and the brushed models out and they are relatively subtle markings compared to milwaukee putting a huge FUEL across the brushless gear. (and dewalt is even more subtle "huh wtf is xr"
They were the same. It was a black friday thing and then it looks like it got extended with "special" boxes for these sets. I had to get one at that price. :-) I think the 300 ft lbs will be enough for most of what I do and I already have enough batteries with the other tools I have so it made a nice addition to my tool kit. I hear you on the markings as well, I've picked stuff up and then gone "oh this is brushless.." that's why it's so much more lol
The only problem I have come across with Ryobi is the quality of their drill bits. They break so damn easily!
I've been using DeWalt bits with my Ryobi and no one's arrested me so far.

I just bought the $99 battery set and got the display 1/2impact for free. Plus 20 off bc it was a display model. So 79 bux for 2 batteries a charger a bag and impact
I've purchased a fair amount of Ryobi and for the price I paid, not too bad. I sand small wood blocks for a rubber stamp company I have and I've been using the same desk top belt sander for about 8 years. I've gone thought a handful of the rubber drive belts but the motor keeps pushing along. Not bad for the $110 I spent way back when. The cheap $100 10" table saw took my abuse for 6 years too. Not the most accurate cuts and loud as all get out but for the price, not bad. I bought the cheap bandsaw, drill press, and scroll saw. I sold the drill press since I only used it a couple times. The scroll saw and band saw are great for the prices too. Back in 2008ish they were all just about $100 each. Best way to get your introductory woodworking tools if you want new stuff. Oh yeah, my ryobi planer is aces too for the $200 I paid for that too.
