Nikki is probably the lowest bidder to the OEM's. Since Stanley Black and Decker now owns MTD, perhaps things will change. Thanks, great video as always!
Another great video T-bone!! I had 3 nikki kits where the float bottomed out so the needle was not seating!! Ding Dang Nikki crap!! I had to heat up the float also.
Awesome attempt, and good idea to begin with. My mower has a Kohler 7000 series, and I haven't had an issue like that, yet. The only issue I had, was I wasn't using the cut off like I should have, and it started lightly surging from the ethanol in the fuel. I started using the cut off when I wasn't using it, and it seemed to have stopped the surging.
Another great one and as always thanks for all the tips, like oil filter, swapping out parts from carbs an making all seem effortless. Thank you and keep them coming my friend.
That extension was definitely long enough T-Bone 🤣🤣🤣. Amazing to see your subscribers flying up now, well done brother. All that gas in the intake! crazy. I tried it before, I now have 1 box with x2 carburettor parts in it 🤣🤣🤣 . She does say you have sausages for fingers 🤣🤣🤣. She wants to manicure your nails too🤣🤣. Mrs T ain’t cleaning that mess up either!! We are watching you! you knew that was going to pour out! Get a bucket next time,,, man alive! Oh No!! all that and it didn’t work! Golllly! What an enjoyable video brother, love ❤️ to Mrs T
I’ll be watching for that next vid on the Briggs to kohler carb I’d like to see what the difference is and y it wouldn’t work love the videos thanks for the information
If it didnt run rich from the fuel it was getting in there it almost work , and i never knew the float on the nikki carb had that slope like that overtime, ill have to try that method with the heat gun when i work on a nikki again .
Hey T-Bone! Love your videos. You are fun to watch! That lawn tractor is in pretty bad shape for so few of hours. They must keep it outside? Flywheel and muffler are very rusty!! Awful! If only people took better care of their equipment!
Thank you. I wish I could have but they won't fit. I'm gonna try again when I have a customer who can give me more time on it. That machine had already been here 3 weeks, now we are 4 weeks behind on repairs.
I have a tiller that wouldn’t run because it was used with ethanol fuel, corrosion in the carb. Cleaned the carb helped but then it was surging. I fixed it by adjusting the timing advance ( governor )that is connected to the carb. It starts on first pull now and runs smooth.
I picked up a 2012 Ariens rider...gas in the crankcase...Nikki junk, replaced it with Amazon carb...surges now at idle, ordered my micro drills to jet it out....UPDATE: Turns out the bad idle was from the over sized paper fuel filter i installed...replaced it with stock B&S filter, runs like a champ... but like you said it's just a screen not a filter, I want to try the one you recommend if I can find the part number again:-)
Tbone nice to see you thinking outside the box and trying that B&S carb. Those Nikki carbs are the worst and reassembly with aftermarket gaskets rarely works OEM is the only way to go on these carbs. Yep at EP we do the pressure test first then the bench test similar to what you showed for 10 minutes to ensure no flooding. Just a thought: if you JB Welded the B&S main jet and drilled to the same size as the Nikki do you think it would work?
Hello T-Bone. You would think after the Kohler KT17, Kohler Courage fiasco’s that Kohler would step up and take the opportunity to really up their game and build outstanding engines again like the old K series cast iron Kohlers were. Just Saying!!! Great Video T-Bone.
Looks like a Briggs Intek and a Kohler Courage had a baby together. I don’t understand why Kohler decided to make another bucket engine and why they used a Nikki carb.
LOL Love that movie. It's a trick question, Chevy didn't make a 327 in 1955, it didn't come out until '62 and it wasn't offered in the BelAir until '64, however the correct ignition timing would be 4deg. BTDC
Great video. My son has the exact same mower and it was bogging down/losing power when mowing, so I changed the carb and put the exact same oem kohler carb on it, and it starts and runs but the Throttle control does not change the speed of the motor anymore, so it run full blast and the throttle has no impact on it other than it does still work the choke.... I have no idea why the throttle does not work any longer. The two linkages are hooked up just as they were before... Any ideas? thanks
I got the same mower. Since day one it'll surge on choke and low idle, but only on cold starts. Once warmed up, it runs smoothly. Any ideas? Could this be normal?
@@RaleysSmallEngines thank so much for responding. I have recently started watching ALL of your videos. Man you are awesome. Teaching me a lot. I knew nothing about small engines before watching you. With the price of mowers nowadays a fella gotta learn this stuff! Your videos are the best out there. He got the mower used for free. Someone had put a Chinese carb on it because it was surging. So I wanted to drain fuel and check lines pump etc as you do and prolly have to put a real carb I. It also. Small amount of white smoke from exhaust but not a fog Bank like you have shown with blown head gaskets. Not sure about that. But thankfully you have videos on changing those as well! Thanks so much!!
I'm really enjoying your lessons. I have a Nikki carb problem for flooding. Have a carb kit on order to replace the oring, needle, and anything else. My question is with the cylinder flooding and gas in the oil, wouldn't the valves also have gas mixed in it?
For the carburetor, if you don't try, you won't know. We all learned, while a Briggs carburetor may fit a Kohler, it may not work. Maybe another engine (bigger) it may work.
Actually you're going to have to do a little bit more to that than what you're doing now You're going to have to drill out the choke hole where the shaft meets the bottom and you're going to have to do the same thing to the to throttle then you have to take the throttle plate off and you're going to have to grind and sand down the lip cuz it's not going to fit between the grooves and I can't remember exactly what it took but yeah you have to do it a little more than that
@@RaleysSmallEngines I had it backwards I put a walbur carberator on a Briggs and Stratton witch I had to 1) reroute fuel line 2) change both throttle and choke flappers 3.i had to drill both flappers mount holes wider and deeper 4) Also choke flappers in had to be sanded So it's a hybrid
If Mr customer had gotten it started the engine would have been totally smoked. But my bet is hydrolocked on gas. May have blown the head gasket even so.

I believe Taryl did the carb swap like you just did...love your channel👍
I think he did it on a Briggs though. I've got one on a Briggs swap also. Thank you for watching and commenting my friend
I know your gonna make that work !!!
Gonna try
Drill the jet out to 69 bit
Will work fine 😊
You can't say you didn't at least try T-Bone, you'll figure out a way to get it done next time. 👍
Nice video and hey Mrs T-Bone!! 👋
Thanks brother

Thank you so much for this video. I ended up doing exactly what you did to my nikki carb and it worked. Adjusted the float and replaced the seals.
Awesome Zach!! Great job, and thanks for commenting my friend

Thank you
I have a tractor with an old Walbro, I'll never change it, just repair when needed.
Another genius video, T bone! You are the man!
I appreciate that
Those carbs will be easier to repair after you have done several thousand. I was so hoping the Briggs carb would work---bummer. Thanks for the videos.
Yep, I was hopeful. I will get another and make it work. Yep gonna video it. Thanks for watching and commenting my friend
It will work just drill out the jet and increase the amount of fuel 😊

Not normal, but they have these engines running so lean it causes surging. The jets will need to be opened up to fix it.

Disconnect the fuel line at the fuel pump and hold it down below the frame. Hope that helps you
