Awesome...glad to see you back and rockin' the new...and Bad To The Bone shop!!!
Thank you, Eloy! One of these days I might even get it set up/
That closeup shot of the forstner bit was pretty awesome :D Looked like the wood was being pushed through!
That new shop is gonna be awesome :D I reckon you need to build a MASSIVE Woody to go in one corner or something :D
I have Chip, my life-sized, articulated wooden robot. But a huge Woody to act as a decor statement piece would be pretty awesome! The drilling scene you're referring to is actually as it appears. That close-up shot is the back side of the hole. I drilled most of the way through from one side then turned it over to complete the hole (and prevent tearout). So it actually only drilled about 1/16" before the spurs cut through and pushed the disc you see down to the table.
Thanks for watching.
very cool Steve :)
Thanks for watching, JP!
Thanks! Having watched SEVERAL of these bottle holder videos, I've adopted & "evolved" the designs to make one which is ROCK-SOLID. Your arced design has just completed it PERFECTLY for me!
Length = 300 mm
Width = 90 mm
Thickness = 45 mm
Hole = 190 mm from bottom
33 degree mitre
Glad to see you back. Did you move or just build a new shop? If you moved, are you still in the same area? Paul / paulsmessyworkshop on UA-cam
Yes, Paul. I did move. I had to leave my old place in November of last year. The new home didn't have any work space. Thankfully, I had a wonderful wife who saw to it that I was able to get this building constructed. Thanks for watching!
Oh, I'm in the same city (Lakeland, Fl) but on the other side of town.
I'm 1 minute into the video and giving you a thumbs up just for the Monty Python reference. Love it! Now back to the video. ~Pat
Subscribed purely upon the basis of your Monty Python quote :-)
great job Steve. Russ wasn't kidding about all the wood you had in your storage.
ken
And you didn't even see all of it. Thank you for watching!
The wine stand looks great, your shop looks amazing, and you my friend, look better than both! Cheers
If you think I look better than both (or either), I've done a great job fooling you ;) Thank you for watching!
Very Nice. Can you make the board and length? Or does it have to be a certain length. Thanks. 🤝
I made one of those a while back and my cat could not wait to knock it over, not the best cat toy.
Anything that can be knocked over by a cat will be knocked over by a cat! That said, I love cats. Thanks for watching, John.
Wood 'n' Stuff w/ Steve French me too, but child proofing the house was nothing compared to cat proofing it (Well at least trying)
welcome back Steve to the land of UA-cam. shop looks nice now you just have to Stage it for accessibility for you. nice comeback project. good luck at Etsy wink wink
Thanks, Opa. Yeah, I have a lot of work to do to get everything set up. Shoot, I still have a bunch of my workshop stuff in my house. I don't want to bring it all in until I get the walls done. Otherwise it's just more crap to shuffle around in the meantime. I appreciate the support!
good to see you back Steve, can't wait for more videos..
I have a lot of catching up to do. Thanks for watching, Dave!
First Off Mate, It's Good To see you back in your Shop :) I really enjoyed this one and you have done an Awesome job on them... Loved the different types of wood as it gives a great effect..... Thank you for sharing....The shop looks Stunning and gives you plenty of room.....
Thank you very much, Terry. It's good to be able to make stuff again. Well, I did make some things during my shopless time. But working in a living room isn't exactly ideal. The new shop space will serve me well. I appreciate the ongoing support and encouragement!
Wood 'n' Stuff w/ Steve French Your Very Welcome Mate.. I'm looking forward to many great builds coming out of your new Shop...:)
Hip, hip, hooray...good to see ya making vids again and wonderful to see you getting the shop up and running...hey I recognize that pile of wood in the back...we spent some time together.... 😜
Hey, Russ. The wood pile says hi. I'm sure glad you were willing and able to help move it (twice)! Thanks for watching!
Great to see you back Steve! The new shop looks very spacious.
Thank you. It's larger than my last shop space. My last shop, however, had a separate garage bay for wood storage. But I think I still have more total space to work with.
wow! that looked real easy to make. new shop is looking good.
They are very easy indeed. Thanks for watching and commenting, Wes.
I have made a few of those in the past... :-)
Hey Dale, thanks for watching. It's not a project I would have normally chosen to do. It was actually a project article request/suggestion from the owner of a site I write for. But I'm really glad I made them and I like how they came out.
Sometimes I find the real simple projects to be satisfying... :-)
Welcome back my friend love the balancing wine bottle holder... Look No Hands lol
Thank you, Chris.
Excellent! And your shop is already looking to be in better shape than mine. :)
Thank you, Sir.
Welcome back Brother, Glad to see this
Thank you, Sterling. I appreciate that. I hope you're on your way to feeling better. We all miss you.
nice to see you back
Thanks, Adrian!
Pretty sweet Steve. Very nice shop. Are you going to know what to do with all that space?
Oh I know what to do with it: fill it up with crap! Thanks for watching, Matt!
Loose the music very annoying
Great to see you are back up and running.... still in the Lakeland area?
Hey Charles. I'm still in Lakeland, but on the North side now. Thanks for watching!
Great project, Steve! The new shop looks awesome. I love that miter stop set up for cutting the bottoms, great idea!
Thank you, Braxton! The shop's going to be great once I finally get set up. The miter saw is perfect for cutting the 45° angle. And the backer wood makes it easy to align the work piece perfectly every time.
Great to see you back and making things👍🏻👍🏻👍🏻👍🏻
I appreciate that, Frank!
Great to see you smiling and back in the shop Steve, Shop looks great. Thanks for sharing.
Marc Eaton - Thank you very much, Marc. I really appreciate your support :)
Good to see you back Steve! Great job!
Thanks man. It's nice to make some sawdust again.
Going to give this a shot for Christmas
Wellcome back
Thank you, Jonathan.
So great to see you again! I really missed your inspiring content. Nice project.
Thank you, Willem.
looks great steve, as usual!! just might have to try. jealous of the new shop pppffffffft lol
Thank you, KEN.
Glad to see you back. Nice project and it looks like you have a lot more space!
Thank you, Chris. I do have a lot more space to work with now.
Welcome back Steve! If that's the real Steve? Didn't sound like the Steve I heard before. Wow, that is a nice big shop. Hope you left at least one space for the wife's car! Will they still stand up as the bottle gets near empty! Great video just in time for gifts!
Thank you! If the mostly-fluent speech threw you off, rest assured that I'm still a pretty severe stutterer/stammerer. It's rare that I can talk even remotely this well. And this was with a bunch of takes (and it was all downhill afterwards). No, this only works with a full to mostly-full bottle. Once the contents lessen, the center of gravity begins to shift, eventually putting it off balance. But you do have some adjustment room, allowing it to work with a couple glasses worth missing (depending on serving size, of course).
Concerning the wife's car: I'd give her the entire space if I could. But, truthfully, the only reason I lost the last shop is because we had a falling out and I had to move out. So, while it's nice that car parking is not a concern, it's also very disappointing that her car parking isn't a concern. Thanks for watching.
Wood 'n' Stuff w/ Steve French Well I didn't want to highlight the excellent speech too much after watching sooo many years of your videos. But thought you had done something while you were on hiatus, because it sounded different!
Yea I thought the balance might be disrupted after consumption - haha. Thought I would ask though, cause I've learned "stuff" from you that I didn't t know before. Anyway, thanks for the reply and glad you were able to get into Nice big shop! Tell woody we missed him also.
Hey there's my brother from another mother! Welcome back!!!
Thank you, Brian!
Hey Steve, great video! Wonder why I hadn't seen this one yet!
EDIT: Previous question already answered by myself, haha
New question: I don't have a plainer and only got 1 3/16 " thick wood, does the same pattern in your description still work properly?
Thanks for watching! The wood you have may look a bit chunky, but I believe it will work.
Thanks for the quick answer! I'll just give it a shot then!
nice 👍
Thanks for watching!
Glad your back and in your new shop, Steve.
Thank you, Steve. I'm slowing getting myself back into the game.
This came out great
totally cool ! So glad to see you back..... Congrats on the mew shop
Thank you, Sir. There will be lots of cool projects to come.
Awesome project, and great to see you back!
Thank you very much!
Nice batch work Steve. Looking good. Hope to see you more often now.
Are you going to tell us about the wall construction and give a new shop tour in the future? JimE
Thanks, Jim. I'm not sure my showing the insulating and sheathing of the walls is something many people would really find very interesting. I don't generally like making filler videos for the sake of getting a video out. I don't think many people would care enough to want to watch me do a bunch of "mundane" stuff. So, I don't know. Maybe, maybe not.
I've had enough requests for a shop tour (including requests from the past, which I never acted upon). So I'll most likely do a shop tour once I start setting things up. And I'll probably make a video when I construct some interior walls that I have in mind.
Steve, I didn't mean showing construction. I was talking about a "completed" new shop. Sorry for the misdirection. I don't want to see you build a wall either. :-) JimE
Good one Steve. Good to see you in action again!
Thank you. I'm still trying to settle in to my life situation, so things are still slow with making projects and videos. But I hope to get my butt in gear soon.
great to see you back in a shop and nice project.
Thank you very much. It's been too long! Thanks for watching.
good to see you back. you've been missed
Dave! Wow, it's been a long time, my friend. I hope you're doing well. Thanks you watching!
Cool!!!
Hope to see more great stuff , Nice job
I appreciate the support, Thomas! I have lots and lots of cool projects planned.
glad to see u back in a shop again!!!
Thank you. It's a great change from my year-long lack of having a proper work space.
Great work Steve, thank for the pattern
Thanks for watching, Francisco! You are very welcome.
Hi Steve, good to see you are back to work with wood, I was wondering how you like that Evloution sliding miter saw I saw a review of it on another channel too and I would like to hear your opinion of it too thanks
Hey, I appreciate your comment. I did a review video on the saw back in July: ua-cam.com/video/sN0-OqIQ47g/v-deo.html Honestly, I really like it. I've only used it on a couple projects so far (because I was between shops most of last year), but it will definitely appear in a lot more videos in the future. It turns out that a sliding compound miter saw is an extremely useful tool. And the blade on this one cuts like a dream.
Nice to see you back Steve.
I appreciate that, Ken. It's good to be back.
Glad to see you back
Thank you , Sir. It's been a while; that's for sure.
Welcome back!!
Thank you!
welcom back!
Thank you very much!
Welcome back!
Thanks, John! I always appreciate your support.
nice project
Thank you, Sir. I appreciate your watching!
pleasure
I missed you man!!! Glad to see yer back!
illmsg77 - Thank you very much! It's nice to be back at it. I've gotten a few videos up in the last months and have more stuff in progress. I sure did have a lot of down time though.
Dear Steve,
good to see you back and congratulations on the new shop (wish I had a new shop...that size).
I have to admit I 'thumbed-down' your video and here's why:
Although your project looks great and you executed it with your typical panache, it's utterly useless.
You can only 'present' the wine (or put it on show) with this holder...once the bottle is open, you can't use it.
Also, with any red wine over a few years of age, all the sediment will move to the neck of the bottle...just where you don't want it.
Have you seen similar (curved) bottle holders, where the bottle is held with the neck of the bottle slightly above the horizontal?
This type allows you to present the wine at the table (with the sediment at the bottom), and once you've filled a couple of glasses, you can put the bottle back in the holder and sit and admire it while you're drinking the wine.
Looking forward to the next video though...
Thanks for watching and commenting, David! Many people like this style of holder for purely aesthetic reasons. And really, how often - in a group setting - is wine opened and then re-corked? It's not meant to be an end all/be all item; just a novelty. Personally, I made these because it was a requested project and because it's something to sell that people will buy (I've already sold two from this batch).
I do appreciate your feedback. Thanks for the support!
Great to see you back...shop tour before and after is needed ...;-p
Thanks for the support. I'll see what I can do, as far as a tour goes.
