- This Floating Barrel Stave Wine Holder is a fun and fast little project you can make and is great to give out as gifts. It's one of those things where you put in the wine bottle and it kind of floats magically, perfectly balanced. These are easy to make and while they serve no real purpose it’s one of those things that people enjoy - especially if it comes with a bottle of wine! And because it’s fairly small it is easy to store and bring out for parties.

That is really cool. Wish I had access to whiskey barrels where I live. I appreciate you talking us through the project. One question, what is the thickness of the barrel stave? I know you said the length matters Does it matter the thickness of the material?
Thanks!! Generally barrel staves are 7/8" to 1" thick but you can use wood that is as thin as 1/2" (I haven't tried a 1/4" yet but I really should) And for Barrel Staves, check out Skull Creek Designs Link in the txt below the video. Travis will ship it to you. I have an upcoming video on making one of these with out using a drill. That should be fun.
I notice you use the ends of the stave for this and the cigar/whiskey glass holder. Is there a reason you use just the ends? Can you use the middle of the stave too? You do reallt nice work.
You can use any part or section of the stave - I just happen to like the ends.
