- The last time Brian Fallon came through Chicago, Nathaniel joined him onstage to add his musical “magic touch” to one of Brian’s favorite Springsteen tunes (“I’m On Fire”). So, when Brian dropped in to visit Nathaniel in the CME Video Room, it didn’t take long before they started covering a tune by one of Nathaniel’s earliest musical influences! Here’s Brian Fallon returning the favor while in town for Riot Fest, lending his musical “magic touch” to a song by Nathaniel’s childhood idols: “Don’t Look Back In Anger” by Oasis! Awesome. I've spent the last few weeks revisiting the American Slang album and now we get a song with Nathaniel, one of the North West's greatest exports. Love these Sunday afternoon drops.
I remember reading about The Gaslight Anthem on Punknews after their deput LP Sink or Swim came out. The Navesink Banks in particular was not the sort of sound I ever really expected from a punk band, but I loved that entire album. I unfortunately missed out on seeing them at The Warehouse Next Door in D.C., but luckily got to see them at the Black Cat, not long after The '59 Sound came out. That remains one of my all time favorite shows and The Gaslight Anthem remains one of my all time favorite bands.
Brian's voice is such a perfect compliment to the contemplative and somewhat melancholic lyrics of Don't Look Back in Anger and those Gibsons sound great! Thanks for this great cover.
