I was so excited for this, picked it up as an early birthday gift. I could not be more in love with it. You did a great job of mentioning the cons of the game in a realistic way, and lucky for me I don't mind the shallow dialog too much as I usually find having to talk to a bunch of NPCs daily a little boring. So many QOL features make it a really easy game to play and the game play loop keeps me saying "just one more day and I'll turn it off for the night" and then three hours later... :)
tbh i like that it starts a new character in multiplayer makes it feel like that really is a new save you all get to share and work through together a bit more permanent than just having your guy visit theirs
Loving it sooo much! Perfect chill game, I turn on a podcast or UA-cam video, then just play for hours, it’s been especially nice while having Covid this last week, it has definitely cheered me up.
Bro...are we living the same life? I have covid so I bought the game to distract myself during quarantine. I put some ambience music from UA-cam and play for hours. 😅
I was looking forward to this game when it was first revealed but many reviewers are saying the same thing, especially about the lackluster "relationship" options and the lifelessness of the NCPs in general. I think I'll wait for the DLCs that are supposed to be coming to see if any of this is addressed and most definitely will be buying this cheaper on Steam and not for the Switch if the DLCs address any of the shortcomings.
For me, Stardew Valley set such a high bar. The town feels alive, and you always feel like you're working towards something. Whether it's making money, building relationships, unlocking new areas, completing the old town hall, etc., there is always something to do. Granted, the game has been out for almost a decade and has been built upon. You can still play it today, and it's just as fun. Fae Farm looks like it's going in a cool direction, but i would love to see it do more to set itself apart. Maybe in the future if they add more to it i will pick it up. Great review.
Not to mention Stardew Valley has split screen co-op system, that's drop-in drop-out. Plus the price tag is fair. This game is overpriced, requires two copies of the game, dreadful co-op system using account creation and new character creation.... what a mess.
I started playing sun haven which is a lot like stardew valley and for all those games comparing themselves to the amazingness of stardew I think sun haven is the best example of a staredew inspired game.
I was thinking the same thing! Played Olive Town just a couple weeks ago and Fae Farm is similar but more polished imo. The crafting stations are much better than the makers!
I picked this up. Yes it's too expensive but it is a quality product. So many lovely QOL touches, well thought out and clear systems. LOADS to do. I'm happy.
@@stevea1089I'm about 35 hours in and I don't feel like I have engaged with all of the mechanics as deeply as I can. Idk if its infinite but it is very addicting and you will definitely get at least your money's worth. If the characters are important to you I wouldn't get this game since the characters are pretty boring but besides that I think its pretty great.
These types of games are great to play with the missus on an evening, problem is there are so many of them and it can be a nightmare sorting the wheat from the chaff so we appreciate these reviews, thanks fellas 👌 Will probably look at picking this one up on sale at some point in future
I got the physical copy. Its probably overpriced but I'm not far into it and have just reached the point quite early on every my brain has hooked into the very pleasing loop of it all and am happily chomping for more. A good entertaining chill out game for when you need to switch off and switch up.
Thanks for doing a review for this one! We had it preordered but decided to wait for a sale. Was really excited about the online co-op because my partner and i loved stardew valley together. There was a lack of reviews and i was hoping you'd do one so i could decide. I think ill wait for a sale but the game very well seems to be in my wheelhouse. From other reviews in the past couple days they did say there are multiple new areas to unlock so that's really cool. The npc thing is a bit of a letdown but let's see if they send some updates and really put this game up to the $50 price point. Defintely will be keeping an eye on this one
I'm enjoying this one immensely, but ouch, was September a pricey ones for games! I had to pick it up though, as my friends and I can't find a lot of multi player games that we all agree on. Plus, it's so cute!
I thought your score and review was very fair. That said, I've been loving the game. Been playing almost nonstop since launch. Currently addicted to doing the Job Quests to unlock cute cosmetics and doing the romance quests for several suitors because I like to have a harem of some kind. I find this game easier to get into than other games of its nature, probably due to the QoL stuff that gets me to the good stuff faster. I find myself actually planning out my ugly farm and ugly house and caring about growing stuff due to the EXP system that unlocks better gear. Definitely a good game. I can't wait to see what updates they add and the expansions that they'll eventually release.
Great review guys for me i think the price is ridiculous. Maybe £25 - £30 would fit better. Totally agree wait for a sale just grabbed no man sky for £19.99 now that's got some content and runs and looks amazing 👍🏻
There are a few things that if they updated I would love the game. A lot of the fixes have to do with conversation with the npc’s as well as a portrait when you talk to them. I also think there should be character movements that could show us their personality when we go to talk to them. They just repeat everything and are very boring. I wish there were more clear differences to each character and more chat options. Secondly is the importance of why we are there. Us coming just because we saw the job in an ad isn’t good enough for me. There could’ve been a cut scene of us coming and getting stuck in a whirlpool that could’ve been very effective. I just feel like the failure in the writing is sooo strange.
I'm enjoying this one. The Harvest Moon and Story of Seasons games have been so bland in recent years, and most imitators are a bit janky. This one feels good to play and is nice and colorful. I wish they hadn't set the price at $60 but as farm game fans my friends and I are really enjoying it. Being able to find quest givers on the map is particularly useful, and I like the mining system that allows you to craft an item to save progress permanently. It's very forgiving and relaxing. Ultimately though, Stardew is still by far the best game in the genre.
Depends how you look it at it. I can’t get myself to Play Stardew because of the way it looks. So, I would say it’s far from the best in the genre.. unless pixel art is your thing. In my opinion Fae Farm is better.
I went for the $40 steam option bc it felt wild spending $60 for some future DLCs that dont even exist yet. I had high hopes bc of all the hype it was getting on cozy games youtube. Gotta say im kinda overall bummed and very meh. I knew about the NPC issue going in but i didnt realize how much it would sour my experience bc i have no interest in interracting with them or the town whatsoever. Plus (at least in early game?) the farming feels like an afterthough and mining is FAR more lucrative, so my gameplay experience is really giving grindy mining sim more than anything else ngl
Totally agree I’m returning the game after work tomorrow if GameStop will let me. I gave it about 15 Hours of my time and just wasn’t feeling it. I don’t mind paying $60 if a game is good but this game is lacking a lot of main elements you would hope for, like story and liveliness to the town.
Great review, as always, Mark. Myself and my wife have been playing this since launch and we are loving it. However, we have noticed a couple of bugs. Mainly a certain quest giving NPC just completely disappearing and the lack of seasonal crops being buyable when the game says they are. It does not ruin the game though and we are loving it.
You need to use the magical fertilizer on the base crops , and they have a chance to become new crops which then you can use the garden bemch to craft seeds 😊
I hope they update the characters, for me the NPCs really make or break a game for me, and it sucks cause the rest of this game is done beautifully! Especially since this is a $60 game I expected better tbh
I’m loving the game so far. A nice way to relax before bed. I did read that The devs said they weren’t able to lower the price on Switch the way they were on pc but to make it up to Switch players, they will get the two future dlcs from the pc deluxe version for free. (Which is basically just saying us Switch players got the deluxe version)
Question to everyone! Where would you rate FaeFarm vs other new'ish games such as Evergreen Valley and Story of Season A Wonderful Life. As well as, compared to other games such as Stardew. What is your number 1?
I'm glad (and maybe envious) that a lot of people are enjoying this game but I just can't get myself hyped or curious from what I've seen of the gameplay loop.
I started Rune Factory 4 recently on PS plus extra. I’m pretty much at the beginning. Should I keep putting my time into Rune Factory 4, or jump in on this?
Yeah for characters RF4 is hard to beat, however I prefer the farming & mining in Fae Farm. They both are great games that deliver different experiences.
Keep going. RF4 is far better and more polished than than this one, the story, the qol, the characters, the crafting system, ALL of them are far better. It's unfortunate that after the company came back from bankruptcy, they still haven't make better games than RF4, RF5 is quite alright but too short, RF3SP is great though.
I was so excited for this game. But the more I saw the reviews and others playing the game, I started to notice it lifeless aspects. Then the price... $79.99! No thank you! If I decide to pick it up most definitely during a sale at least around 35% to 50% sale. Hopefully by then the NPC look more alive.
dont forget about the 2 dlc they have planned and also they may update some of the more "boring & negative" things in the future! great video. much inform.
I admit first, I LOVE playing Fae Farm....BUT I wish a few of the early "access" videos would have mentioned how small my character is on the Switch version.
I've been quite enjoying it, though I do hope they fix the bugs soon. I can't accept shipping contracts. Hoping the value will pan out with the 2 DLCs that should come out next year. It is unfortunate that Switch didn't get the base game price on its own, but with how much I've been enjoying it, I'm sure I'll be playing for quite some time, hopefully up to the release of the DLCs.
I haven't been a big farming sim fan but I loved Stardew so instead of comparing them, I always hope one does something a little different. I like the animations and the vibrant world...maybe it's a wait for sale or more accurately wait until the SwitchUp team tell me there's a sale 😊
I wasn't sure bout spending 60 for the switch but being able to play it on my steam deck and 40 was the sweet spot for me, maybe 30 would have been perfect but I could do 40 and about to be going on vaca this will be perfect to play when I'm away from home
I loved the video and I picked up the game a week ago and I love it. The farming and the mines are great and the controls are amazing !! I didn't explore the magic part yet but I can't wait to do so. And for me the romance and relationships are not that important and I tend to skip dialogues in every games I play so the fact that the social part is lacking is not a problem.
I’m more of a casual gamer and I do love this game. The only thing that really bothers me is the NPCs. Like said in this video, I wish they had more personality and also cutscenes. Perhaps if they would have done the heart system, this game would be more enjoyable.
I'm a new PC gamer (thanks to the Steam Deck) and I feel like Switch gamers are much more tolerant of most games because there aren't as many available. Steam has a new indie game releasing everyday it seems like so PC players are more choosy and vocal about a game not being up to par.
I’ve been loving it!! It’s my chill game for when I’m watching tv. I’ve been playing it on my steam deck and it’s running really well. I’m really enjoying collecting everything, doing the quests, catching bugs, and going in the mines.
I was salty about the price on switch and annoyed about some of the negative aspects I had heard about. As I deliberated over whether or not to buy it my sneaky wife got me a steam deck for my birthday! Now I can play coral island (and all the other cool farm sims that STILL haven’t made it to switch after years of promises). Nintendo is greedy and I’m honestly glad to be off the eshop.
Fae Farm is a solid game, but the poor character dialogue, lack of character events, minimal and boring festivals, and so-so story really hurts the experience. There’s a ton of stuff to do but not enough flavor to make you care about the world or why you’re doing it. Really hope they address this in the DLCs, the foundation is there, just needs some work
Ive waited a while for this, Im enjoying it so far, its decent but definitely not £50 decent! Thats my major gripe with it, its really overpriced! Especially when you see Stardew Valley priced at £10.99 on the eshop 😕
Cozy games! I am now a cozy game believer ever since i played Spiritfarer. Cant hurt to have even MORE Cozy games. Althoooough. That price is a bit.... much for me. 😅
I don’t think this was a good review if I’m being honest, u didn’t mention the rpg elements which is a big part of the game, I am loving it and it’s a 10/10
Im still debating whether to get this or not. May I ask what rpg elements there are in this game? I thought it was just combat in the mines but is there something else? Or maybe I’m equating rpg with combat too much when it could be anything. So could you elaborate? Thanks
@@BlingBlingDubuLove it has combat but there’s a lot of rpg elements in building crafting stations, everything has a beginning and it’s very much grindy, it also has magic and getting things going, for example wood can be turned into something else and then another form. There’s also rpg elements in farming and crafting, you have to level them up and you do that by mines, farming ect and then there’s relationships and friendships which you have to do too which can be rpg like. It’s way more rpg than I realised
I’ve been 😂 secretly playing at work-the game is $60 steep and not perfect nor better than SDV in my opinion but this game is slowly scratching that itch compared to bland titles and unfinished farming games that tends to be beta phase that never seems to be finished.
I've never clicked on a video sooo fast😅 I have been waiting for you guy's review! I was debating on getting this one but was swayed by all the "wonderful" reviews on UA-cam. I must say this one has been such a disappointing for me. Don't get me wrong there are some things that are done really really well. But my god isnt this just a bad game dressed up to be beautiful. Almost £50 is outrageous for what this game is atm. 😢 I should have waited for this review 😅 Seee yaaaa
So accurate with the marriage system. First thing I did was woo the goth fae girl, then as soon as the wedding cutscene ended she's just kinda... There...
It deffo has a few issues. Firstly its far too expensive. Secondly all the npcs have like 6 lines of dialogue and they all say the same thing which just gets tedious. I might be in the minority but I just havent clicked with it. It just feels so not magical? Maybe others will have a better time with it 😅
The fact this game didn't even think about multiplayer or couch co-op from the gamer perspective is the most disappointing. Most people would get this game to play with someone split screen using the same progression per character they left off. What's with all the "creating an account" and "create new character" to play with friends bs? Is it really that hard to make a decent co-op game these days without all the fuss? That's really the only reason I am not buying it, along with it's insane price tag. Why would I buy two copies for mediocre indie title and mediocre co-op system? No thanks.
This game sounds interesting but it's weird that the switch version is more expensive then the game on PC. I've heard this game's biggest weakness is the NPCs and that's a big disappointment because the world is just as important as farming in these games.
Yeah, I think you were a bit harsh on this one. I'm a pretty big fan of cozy games, but most farming sims just lose me after the first dozen hours or so. This one, however, does sooo much right. From the tool auto-selection, to the ability to warp around the map, to the way it automatically takes you home at the end of the day with no "passing out" penalty (so you can keep working 'til the very end), and so much more. There are so many quality of life features that take care of the little annoyances that make other games in this genre grow old rather quickly. Could NPC relationships use a bit of work? Definitely, but that's true of most games in this genre (Wylde Flowers does this really well, but most others are pretty lacking). Most people don't go into farming sims looking for a deep RPG experience. This game just does so much else right, and is so far superior to most others in the genre, that I'd hate to see potential players scared off by the lack of enthusiasm in this particular video. Love your content, but yeah... you might've missed the mark a bit on this one. That said, I generally agree with your reviews, so it's only fair to have the occasional one where I disagree. Look forward to your next vid!
I love the game but I must say the multiplayer gameplay is very badly designed. I expected something like Fantasy Life where you can join in and take your progress with you. Other than that disappointment I love the game.
Who's been waiting for this one? Here is our final take! Mark

I waited since May 2023 for Far Farm to come out…and now I’m waiting for Moonlight Peak to come out😅😅
I haven't been a big farming sim fan but I loved Stardew so instead of comparing them, I always hope one does something a little different.
Does the game have 2 Switch multiplayer without online? Like - local wireless? :)
Local wireless but I think you’d need two copies of the game 🤔. Mark
Yea am waiting for a sale
Love a cosy farming sim but as a AU $80 game I'll be waiting for a decent sale
I’m more of a casual gamer and I do love this game. The only thing that really bothers me is the NPCs. Like said in this video, I wish they had more personality and also cutscenes. Perhaps if they would have done the heart system, this game would be more enjoyable.
Was planning to get it on my steam deck but the reviews were kinda negative. The comment section here is quite more positive than in steam lol
I'm a new PC gamer (thanks to the Steam Deck) and I feel like Switch gamers are much more tolerant of most games because there aren't as many available. Steam has a new indie game releasing everyday it seems like so PC players are more choosy and vocal about a game not being up to par.
It's a game I'm sure I would like but the price stopped me from buying it on release. It's one I don't mind waiting on a lower price.
Love the look of this. I’m waiting for a sale though 😅
It doesn’t grab me enough to pay the $80 it costs in my region, so I’ll wait for a sale. My backlog is way too big so I’m not short of games to play.
It looks really cute. I'm definitely getting it on a sale. 😊
I’ve been loving it!! It’s my chill game for when I’m watching tv. I’ve been playing it on my steam deck and it’s running really well. I’m really enjoying collecting everything, doing the quests, catching bugs, and going in the mines.
I think I only watch these for the "see ya" at the end.
The villagers having less depth than a tissue paper immediately turns me off from this. We've had enough of that lately.
I think I'm at 30 hours-ish. Agree with everything you said.
Really hope they address this in the DLCs, the foundation is there, just needs some work
You really need to fix the "Story & Gamplay" typo at the end of the video. It's been there for a long time.
😂 where!? Haha !? Oh man I didn’t notice! Mark
@@SwitchUpYtAt 8:45, Final summary. I've seen the typo in other videos as well, maybe you use the same template for most videos?
I can see with some additional content this game being awesome, but right now it feels like too much of the same
Ive waited a while for this, Im enjoying it so far, its decent but definitely not £50 decent!
Spiritfarer is really good. Mark
I dunno if I could call a game, where you escort someone to their death, cozy though
I'm surprised it's only 30 fps
I’ve been 😂 secretly playing at work-the game is $60 steep and not perfect nor better than SDV in my opinion but this game is slowly scratching that itch compared to bland titles and unfinished farming games that tends to be beta phase that never seems to be finished.
Hehehe really fun game for sure. Mark
I've never clicked on a video sooo fast😅
I have been waiting for you guy's review!
😢
I should have waited for this review 😅
Seee yaaaa
So accurate with the marriage system. First thing I did was woo the goth fae girl, then as soon as the wedding cutscene ended she's just kinda... There...
Actually it's like a real marriage isn't it
@@0451Jimno it’s not, it’s like a real marriage if your marriage is unfulfilling and boring
@@Okk681 bet you're a blast at parties
@@0451Jim Just saying that marriages could be more fun than that which is technically an uplifting comment lol
seems good but im gonna wait for a sale
Not even considering until it's 50% off or more
its always a busy day for farming simulators
Probably not for me but I can see why people might enjoy it
It deffo has a few issues. Firstly its far too expensive. Secondly all the npcs have like 6 lines of dialogue and they all say the same thing which just gets tedious. I might be in the minority but I just havent clicked with it. It just feels so not magical? Maybe others will have a better time with it 😅
I think you’re spot on
The fact this game didn't even think about multiplayer or couch co-op from the gamer perspective is the most disappointing.
No thanks.
Insta buy when the price drops. I'm the guy who always skips all the dialogues, so the lifeless NPCs might save me the trouble
This looks fun.
My daughter got taken over it before me ❤😂
waiting for for it to be under $30
They lost the run of themselves with the pricing. My daughter who's off to Uni might have picked this up, but not at that price.
well i liked it
This game sounds interesting but it's weird that the switch version is more expensive then the game on PC. I've heard this game's biggest weakness is the NPCs and that's a big disappointment because the world is just as important as farming in these games.
Switch only let’s you buy the deluxe version which comes with 2 future DLC’s
On PC you can get the $40 base game or the $60 version like on switch
I love this game!! ❤
I'm offended.......my Marijuana Tree and myself have been happily married for years.
I doubt there will be anymore animal crossing i believe that 2.0 update was it its a bummer but thats my opinion
< 🌳 …. I mean < 3 🌳
Nice
It seems aimed at a younger audience and probably why your daughter is hooked
For sure. - she's actually stopped playing already and moved on though which is also telling. Mark
I think the authorities should crack down on all these farmers farmin' fae. Whatever that is. Its disgusting.
Que!?
I love the game but I must say the multiplayer gameplay is very badly designed. I expected something like Fantasy Life where you can join in and take your progress with you. Other than that disappointment I love the game.
I think this is a perfect start game for the children
My daughter seems to have dropped it already which isn’t like her! Mark
Its a meh, ill just wait for coral island
This game looks pretty but I don't really care for the blocky Roblox/Lego heads.
