There's a light I call the penance light here in my city, if you're the only car at the light on the street (north-south, avenue runs east-west), it's seven minutes. SEVEN FUCKING MINUTES. The moment someone else joins, it'll change within about 45 seconds. I've been stuck at it in/on everything from a motorcycle to a Miata to a work truck to a line/digger truck. Apparently, the weight cells require someone behind or next to you to override the timer. BRUTAL.

So its funny you say start in second because honestly 2nd goes up to about 7mph on most truck. The dump truck has a bed over his rear axles. That weight is what kept him from spinning. The truck bobtailing had no weight hence the burnout. But back to your 2nd gear statement. Should have started out in 4th or really 5th gear. Spooling up the turbo like that youd come out the hole super slow but if you could start on the high side of the trans you could take off in 6th maybe. Youd get your time back by not switching a gear or 2 and having to get to your high side gears. Most big trucks will keep up with your cars bobtailing after we get up to about 25. Drove a few that could walk away from most average cars. Gearing is everthing. You could gear it to run 25mph but pull a million pounds. Gear them to run well over 100mph but as soon as you hit an incline your dropping gears because it has no low end torque. Most go for an in-between ratio 3.55 /373/ 410. Drove one that was 2.64 truck could cruise at 100 like most do at 70.

In my experience, the dump drivers I know also run heavy equipment. They do it all and in some rough ass, hairy terrain with multiple types of equipment. I was rooting for the dump.
Plus, dumps go off road. I'm sure the ratio is for slow creeping. In drags, the higher number ratio takes off faster.... and if driver knows to float... they can use the ratio to launch off the line 😊
For anyone who is surprised, dump trucks are designed with an incredible amount of low end torque to allow them to easily handle heavy loads. Conversely, semis are designed to haul long-distance loads efficiently. Unless a semi truck owner modifies his rig, he'll lose everytime to a modern dump truck in a light-to-light race.

This is cool (once it started) i was really looking forward to seeing the difference in traction and got exactly what i was expecting. I build, replace and fix leaf pack's (suspension) for these and i knew right away that left had a major disadvantage. Put a box on both then youll know whos faster. My bet is on the left.
Yep, they have the torque to start moving on the high gears at idle with an loaded trailer in the back, so my man just put the flip on High and press the fuel pedal to the floor lol
Needs to clean up his fueling too. The dump cleans real nice once spooled. Though looks like Bobs isn't terrible once it finally stays up in the RPM but spinning and looked like missed a shift early or really picked the wrong gear (which think he picked the wrong gears to jump to a couple times anyway but) all screws spool.
Generally truck models that are made for vocational work, like dump trucks, cement trucks, crane trucks, etc. have different engines and suspensions from normal semis. Their stronger frames can also take the torque much better, since more weight is on the frame than with a semi and a 5th wheel trailer

A monster CAT engine allows it to deliver more power faster than most other trucks. Let be real, cat is king in the Heavy duty department

Yep, they have the torque to start moving on the high gears at idle with an loaded trailer in the back, so my man just put the flip on High and press the fuel pedal to the floor lol

Needs to clean up his fueling too. The dump cleans real nice once spooled. Though looks like Bobs isn't terrible once it finally stays up in the RPM but spinning and looked like missed a shift early or really picked the wrong gear (which think he picked the wrong gears to jump to a couple times anyway but) all screws spool.

That is a bad ass dump truck🎉 I have never seen a dump truck leave rubber like that ever…. Brutal power.
Generally truck models that are made for vocational work, like dump trucks, cement trucks, crane trucks, etc. have different engines and suspensions from normal semis. Their stronger frames can also take the torque much better, since more weight is on the frame than with a semi and a 5th wheel trailer
@@carmelomercado6560 may I correct you in that cement trucks usually have aluminum frames so they can pass the scales with more concrete on board.. FYI
@@angusbeef524 after researching it does depend on the make and model. I know the Caterpillar 681 has a heavy steel frame, but an aluminum alloy cab to reduce weight. A monster CAT engine allows it to deliver more power faster than most other trucks. Let be real, cat is king in the Heavy duty department
@@carmelomercado6560 I built a dual carb small block, Chevy ported and polished rolling up on 500 hp and put it in a 2 Wheel Dr. square body pick up. A crew cab dodge with a welder and torch bottles and a vise on a huge iron bed pulled up next to me at the light. He saw my shaker hood scoop, and when the light turned green, he drove away. At the next light, I asked him WTF he replied with 3208 caterpillar under the hood!!! BAMF and out at sea do you see more caterpillars than anything else?
@@angusbeef524 I'm telling you man, cat makes stupidly powerful diesels because they're designed to outperform the competition with relatively simple, yet expensive designs. Cat trucks, pound for pound, are superior to other vocational truck models like the International HX series and Mack Granites. They're more expensive, but vetter in the long run.

There used to be 2 sub 12sec ¼mile daily driver dump trucks in SOMD. I seen them run at MRI and saw them daily hauling loads while I delivered pizza. They were some bad ass trucks.
