Lately, my love for knitting has been rekindled after receiving a sweater knitting kit, finishing it, and wanted to knit MORE! I used to knit all the time before I had babies, and I had forgotten how much I loved it and how calm it makes me feel. Plus, hand-knit gifts are some of the best I've ever received and I can't wait to knit pretty and cozy things for my family and friends this year! Learning to knit by making these beautiful dishcloths is a wonderful way to get introduced to the craft. Not only are these washcloths pretty and can be made to match any decor, but they're extremely textured and durable, so they work well on even the dirtiest of pots and pans! You can also use these as a washcloth for a gentle, exfoliating clean.
    Suggested Yarns:
    🌹 Bernat Handicrafter (what I used): amzn.to/2PmnD7a
    🌹 Lily Sugar N' Cream: amzn.to/2JlKyMk
🌹 Red Heart Scrubby: amzn.to/32QBcjo (for a rougher cloth)
EASY WASHCLOTH PATTERN: (Use size 7 or 8 knitting needles)
    Cast on 4 stitches
    Row 1: Knit 4
Row 2: Knit 2, yarn over, knit across the row.
Repeat Row 2 until you have 44 stitches on the needle (or however many you desire to create the longest diagonal length of your cloth)
Row 3: Knit 1, Knit 2 together, yarn over, knit 2 together, knit to the end of the row.
Repeat Row 3 until you have 4 stitches on the needle.
    Bind off.

I must have knitted dozens of these over the years, but never with the eyelets - a nice touch! Never seen the working yarn held in the left hand either; will give it a go, thank you for introducing me to a new technique.

I always recommend my new students use wooden needles to start. Metal is so slippery that it can be incredibly difficult and frustrating for brand new people to use them. Pretty tutorial!! It’s good to be back into knitting season again! 💛

So cute! I just made one today, it only took a few hours (I am somewhat of a beginner). I love using sustainable cloths for washing dishes or counters. Also I really like your video, the music and colors.

Kristina, my Mom used to make these for us. I still have them and really love them, now that she is no longer with us to make us more. I know how to knit but never watched how she made them so Thank You for the tutorial, I might make some more.

Thank you for jumping right to the project. I can crochet a dishcloth, but have wanted to knit a dishcloth. This looks like a good pattern to start with. I think i will give it a try today.

I have always wanted to learn to knit, but was too intimidated. I have tried before with NO success. Maybe I should try again. The smaller size dish cloth you made would make a great coaster!!

    I’m confused 😬

Fabulous project for anybody including beginners! If there was a not so scratchy yarn, could maybe make a face cloth too, with the pattern, perhaps?

My washcloths keep coming out diamond shaped the start and end side are stiffer and sink in and the other corners are super stretchy and pull out more making a diamond shape. Any suggestions?

    • @thediymommy

I'm not too sure. Try playing with the tension on your needles? You might be making the increseases looser than the decreases or visa versa.

I'd learn very good from her had she went waaaay more slower in explaining how to do it. Even at half speed she's too fast😭 so frustrating!
