When Fabregas and Nasri left in the 2011 summer and we were subsequently hammered 8-2 at Old Trafford, I seriously feared for our season. Van Perise literally dragged us to 3rd place that season on his own, his hat-trick at Stamford Bridge stands out in my head. 38 goals in 47 games. He really was a hero to Arsenal fan's at that point ... that's why it hurt so bad and why I guess were so bitter that he left for Utd after that.
He truly is a legend ( atleast to me, just like robben and krul) to bad we got so close twice, despite everything, but fucking hell did they do great. That amazing header, robbens run, and krul saving those penalties.

Arsenal fan here, I think the scary thing about RVP was that he never got to his prime. He was way too injury prone during his earlier years. When he became good he was already a bit too old for his game to develop to another level. The most talented football player I've ever seen.

Had he stayed and won something to end our drought with us he certainly would have cemented a place in one of our all time greats. But he decided to jump ship like a coward and do it the easy way. To them he's just another player to us he could've been a legend.
