Thank you so much for covering my game, Splat! I'm blown away... *gasp* Okay, now... I'm really happy you enjoyed playing it. As stated on the store page it's no secret Stoneshard (among others) inspired me to start this project. I will do my very best to make it a fun, approachable, yet challenging but more forgiving fast-paced, turn-based RPG. Some very cool new mechanics are already in the pipe and shown in the last Steam devlog. Thank you everyone for watching and supporting the best man on YT! ❤
Good Work Awesome Indie Dev! 🥳 Of Blades and Tails really is a fast and approachable Roguelike / lite that should really help open up the genre to people turned off by stonehard stoneshard. I completed the Of Blades and Tails demo, recording my progress with relevant commentary if interested, and I have some suggestions / critiques if you like. Splat actually mentioned one of them in the above video, concerning identifying the general time of day with some sort of sundial, or maybe a view of the sun’s current position on the horizon, on the corner of the screen, would really help, as I found in my recorded play through of Of Blades and Tails that it can be unclear when it is getting dark. When it’s already dark is very clear, but I found the dawn / dust transition very unclear to see, although it did show up nicely on dirt and sand, but not on the seemingly ever present grass. Expanding even more, I would suggest doing something similar with the phases of the moon, Ultima style, which would certainly tie in nicely with the more animalistic, primal world. Come on dev, let see and us Praise the Sun! 🙌 ☀ And I should mention for everyone: the dev has a discord, with the link off their steam page. So if you wishlisted the game, maybe consider joining if you want to engage with the indie fox master there. 👍
Seems like a more colorful less relentless Stoneshard with anthrocharacters. Cool, I like the idea. Stoneshard is a good thing to draw inspiration from and this game seems to have a bunch of own ideas to throw in as well. So I'm keeping my eyes on this one.^^
Ikr. We shall call these games, stoneshardlikes! It's the birth of a new genre that will spawn thousands of games. Maybe even a subgenre we can call stoneshardlites.
@@fatcat1250 Well, I’d call this a StoneShard lite, as it is no where as hard as stoneshard. I cleared the Of Blades and Tails demo, and recorded my progress with relevant commentary if interested, and it is a much faster and more approachable then stonehard Stoneshard. For one, all the player’s attacks auto hit, that does NOT happen in Stoneshard! Of course, the first thing people will notice is the furry creatures, which setting wise, kind of reminds me of a much brighter, less grim, less mutated Caves of Qud, but the 2nd thing they’ll likely see is the limitless inventory. No more inventory grid puzzles with a super small carry limit. The greatest foe of Stoneshard players has been vanquished, the inventory limit! Many will appreciate Of Blades and Tails for that alone! It is a game well worth watching and wishlisting, especially if the devs add some depth and meat to the current furry framework. 👍
@@57ham Ah yes, the original Stoneshard saving system. Many didn’t like that! In the City of gold update back in Nov 2021, they added a save on exit, so you can exit the game and keep your progress. You still have to make a hard save in a bed though, as that is the save you revert back to if you die. It is a fair system, incentivizing you to manage your risks and head back to town once in a while. Still, I can see why Of Blades & Tails would be such a breath of fresh air after dealing with such a system. It should appeal to those yearning for a more approachable Stoneshard nicely.
Don't know Stoneshard, but I know the adventure game "Inherit The Earth", which has its intro totally ripped here, as well as the look of the fox. I'm guessing a hommage.
Looks like a cute little game, I really like the "Ehh..." noise the bugs make when you kill them. I wonder if improving Perception narrows or brightens the viewing cones around objects and in darkened areas? My inner Furry is kinda disappointed that you don't get to build your own anthro-character, but I understand why, if this is a small project.
This looks rad as heck, and there are multiple friends I know who would super be into this as well. Foxes are a great choice. Wishlisted for now, can't wait for the full game to release!
This game reminds me of a Godot tutorial i saw here on youtube. The guy was making an action RPG, and used the same background tile map. It also had a fox man as the hero. Still, it's so different than what the programmer did in the tutorial that it's pretty much just inspired by that.
I know everybody says it looks StoneShard but I wanna say it is StoneShard... with Tails. But the Inventory system is better I guess.. Cuz I'm having hardtime with Diablo like inventory system.
I'm really curious about this one. Thanks, Splatt, you've done it again. Fantastic video, game looks really interesting. Hope all is well with you and yours.
The demo is great as a power fantasy with near unlimited funds from all the loot and infinite healing. Try throwing the spider silk around if you wanna make things even easier. All in all, pretty fun demo despite not trying anything new, still being rather bare-bones and clearly unbalanced.
Another great choice Splat! Of Blades and Tails is a fast and furry Open World RogueLike / RogueLite, all about Intense RPG Furry Fox Adventure in a world gone mad! And I agree wholeheartedly that some sundial, or maybe a view of the sun’s current position on the horizon, on the corner of the screen, would really help, as I found in my recorded play through of Of Blades and Tails that it can be unclear when it is getting dark. Anyway, for those who have not partook of the bright furry frenzy: Think Stoneshard, but even Furrier, as Man beards alone are NOT ENOUGH for adventures in Blades & Tails. Blades & Tails is packing a literal furry creature that you play as, a Fox! Another difference from StoneShard is that Of Blades & Tails does not have PermaDeath, as your progress is saved once you enter a new area. So when you die, you respawn at your last bonded bonfire, Dark Souls style. I’ve been playing it myself, recording myself clearing the cave and the forests of critters hostile to the dominance of fox kind! Furry Power! 🦊✊ So, if you’re craving a far more approachable Stoneshard that is less Stonehard, where you can carry lots of stuff, where your inventory is not your greatest enemy, and where the townspeople aren’t trying to rip you off when you’re just trying to buy food to survive, then Of Blades and Tails might be just the thing for you. It is for me. Watch and see?
Yo great episode and really cool game. Got a game for you to check out its a rouge-lite called Warm Snow. My boi Retro been playing it like crazy. Anyways keep it up my dude much love ✌
Super charming and appealing graphics. Gameplay leaves a bit to be desired, kind of bland combat. Probably just stick with Tangledeep for my roguelike fix.
I absolutely love the graphics. I even like the cardboard cut-out avatar sort of dancing its way across the map. It reminds me a bit of Dragon Court II. I know it's a fairly common thing in games... but attacking a hornet's nest with a sword?... I don't recommend it. It's not what you're hitting... it's what's inside what you're hitting... It's the sort of thing you shoot with a longbow from two maps away... unless you've got a flame thrower...
No, I think it means that the sword does 100% of the listed physical damage. That's why the staff did less physical damage when Splat used it: It had a 75% damage multiplier.
Would be cool if you showcase the game by doing some quest and advancing its story. For me it’s to much running around to find a herb or something to really get to see the game
Your one of the few Game Player that seems have aquired some Int. Stats, it makes it enjoyable to watch, and Not gives me headach :) too bad you only do reviews
Long plays are on twitch, you can watch the vods at any time if he's off line. Oh and, if you do catch him live, don't forget to ask if Splatty got around to washing his shins yet...

I'm super stoked! This game looks awesome! Just added it to my wishlist!
Will it come on Android and IOS?
Your character levels up and the "ah ha" sound byte is nearly the same as one the merchant from Slay the Spire makes.
This looks egg-frickin-xactly like stone-shard!
Like even some assets are just taken away from there.
Even the twigs on the ground look the same
Nice
Thought the same thing!
Stonefurry.
(pssst, devs : the plural of Staff [wooden rod] is Staves. Staffs is for many management teams.)
I like the drawing of giant viruses over the "and Humankind disappeared for unknown reasons" :P
Not sure the furries will have a better time with zoonotic diseases though...
damn bro you’ve become one of my favorite youtubers, keep up good work and hope everything is good

Best video game youtuber. By far.
Don't know Stoneshard, but I know the adventure game "Inherit The Earth", which has its intro totally ripped here, as well as the look of the fox. I'm guessing a hommage.
It's OKAY if there's a couple seconds without commentary. ;)
The fox is named Riff.
That and the sprites make me think the dev is a fan of Inherit the Earth.
Yes, I'm a huge fan! The game of my childhood!
I downloaded this game 2 weeks ago, and had a blast playing it. Cannot wait to see how it develops.
Cool name drop for Inherit The Earth on this game's store page.
its always fun to watch splat
Saw the title and thought it was tooth and tail that game was great thought he was coming back to it
it's that old school vibe with a modern twist
This looks like someone played Inherit The Earth and thought the graphics would go better in an action-RPG.
They weren't wrong.

I love that the bugs deathcry sounds like a grumpy ole man mumbling:/
This looks good.Thanks Splatt
Oh! This totally looks up my alley. Thanks for streaming it!
I love games without crafting, crafting systems just turn into time sinks and inventory clutter imo
January is Indie Goodness Month! Great to see fellow game developers releaseing cool games too.
This looks right up my alley
I know everybody says it looks StoneShard but I wanna say it is StoneShard... with Tails.
But the Inventory system is better I guess.. Cuz I'm having hardtime with Diablo like inventory system.
I'm really curious about this one. Thanks, Splatt, you've done it again. Fantastic video, game looks really interesting. Hope all is well with you and yours.
You are producing contents like a machine haha
But he said it was 2021, so this may have been a holdover.
This looks interesting. I hope they're going to add some animation to your character, though.
But...but...I don't want to die out. I'd miss the foxy ladies!

Haven't we had enough tail titled games?
When you want something louder but the tuners are already maxed, just turn everything else down and then in your global PC sound volume, turn it up.
I have the suspicion that one can reference the healing items in the Q and E slots...
oh wow it uses the vision system nox uses. very cool
You left the screen above the road.
Uhh, splat…It’s 2022 brother. The year of your lord is lagging a bit behind there bud lol.

This bug is a tactical genius, he drops a trap for a flying enemy, lol. I guess traps hit flying enemies, i figured it was a ground trap.
i love this game
thanks for covering it
It's Stoneshard-low-pixel-furry
Reminds me of Stoneshard
so it's a lighthearted furry stoneshard. seems nice
"Medicinal Herbs"

finally, Splatt joint the herd and is now a nobel furry
When did Stoneshard do a crossover with Inherit the Earth...oh, hundreds of people already said that.
Another awesome SPLAT-ATTACK video ;)
is this furry Stoneshard? :D Looks interesting.
this looks like an exact copy of stoneshard
Stoneshard with animals

Stoneshard??????
cheaper version of stone shard?
interesting vid

👍🏻
A stoneshard clone
Looks quite nice. With sufficient content it can be another great rouge-like no one will play.
