- This is the only record that I documented making. It was with the band NEEDTOBREATHE in South Carolina in 2011(5 years before I started on UA-cam). The album was The Reckoning and it sold over 500,000 copies.

As a massive Beato fan and NEEDTOBREATHE fan, this video was a dream come true. THANK YOU Rick!
NEEDTOBREATHE is in my top three bands! The Reckoning is my favorite of their albums. It’s a very important album to me. PLEASE do an interview with them!
Seeing the recording process is really cool. That kid with Rick’s voice is a trip 😊
I'm a huge Needtobreathe fan. Their music is a great example of the fact that Christian music doesn't have to be boring, derivative, and of low quality production.
May I ask what Christian artists or albums you are referring to as "boring, derivative, and ... low production"? Not an attack btw, just that I've grown up with a wide variety of Christian music that was none of what you described; many still sound well produced to this day. I just hear this complaint so much about Christian music my whole life that I'm genuinely confused what people are referring to.
Elijah, I’m pretty sure Joz is referring to 85% of the songs you’d hear on K Love. Matthew West comes to mind. Hate to put it to writing but, that’s what comes to mind first.
I saw these guys 10 years ago in a tiny venue in Gothenburg, Sweden. The only reason I went is that a local band I liked was opening for them, and then we stayed on for the show. It was one of the best gigs I've ever been too, and they were sooo good and managed to turn this little place into a festival.
The Reckoning is seriously one of the most inspiring records to me personally, so awesome that you were apart of it! Thank you Rick!
Wow. Love them. Nice to find out now that you were a part of those records.
Rick's narration has improved so much. It's so engaging nowadays in comparison.
But was more natural back then
Very cool Rick. I distinctly driving into work hearing “Washed by the Water” on our local Christian radio. I thought that’s different. This was when a lot of CCM was a poor imitation of Britney, Taylor, ad nauseam. Needtobreathe was fresh with an alt country rock sound. And… you can tell the track is rocking when the camera’s bobbing to the beat. 😉
Crazy that I was listening to these guys and Jump Little children, long before I even knew who Rick was. All makes sense now. Great production on all those albums Rick!
Seen so many of your videos and then saw your name as producer on Needtobreath album. Love good sounding Christian music, they sound very good in their production. Very nice!
About time this got re uploaded, one of my favourite videos of yours.
Rick E. Beato, super genius. I like the way that rolls out....one of my recognizable sounds.
Rick, small world! One of my musical acquaintances is in the band and also does guest appearances with his brothers in the Cactus 🌵 Blossoms! Sweet! ❤
I always learn from you Rick.
Love this stuff ..... thank you Rick, for sharing the process with us!
Just brilliant work with NTB, Rick. Loved these albums long before I knew you here. (Me and some friends were extras in the 'Girl Named Tennessee' video.) Amazing band and writers. A real treat to see these videos!
Great one Rick, really enjoyed this one. Excellent content after all those many many videos. Your heart is definitely still in it.
The Reckoning is one of my favorite NTB records!
My favorite band and my favorite album! So cool!
Been a NEEDTOBREATHE fan since The beginning! So cool to know you worked on this and to see the process. I think Outsiders, and The Reckoning are amazing albums, the production is so good.
Love this band and love that you produced them.
Very interesting seeing this perspective! I just listened to an Interview with Tom Scholz of Boston where he described the stories around recording all of their records! Hopefully you get to interview him someday!
The vocalist sounds to me like a man who isn't afraid of anything musically. Great songs with purpose. God bless you.
Amazing album!
Going to see them tomorrow night in Reno NV!
Great new look to this video - new camera / lens / lighting - whatever it is, it looks like film instead of video.
That band is awesome!
Great album. Great vocals. Great songs. Great production. By far the best NTB album.
Never heard of this band until today as I'm not tuned into Christian music much but maybe I should be. Good songs and that Dude has a voice that just brings you in. I wondered who that imposter with Rick's voice is. The content that Rick provides is just off the charts.. Thank you so much
This is fantastic! One thing I’ve been dying to know since this record came out is what the whispers were saying on Devils Been Talking?
That was pretty heavy. Bear is a driving force. Very distinct. Great band!
I just saw NEEDTOBREATHE for the 26th time last night. The Outsiders is a masterpiece but The Reckoning is by far my favorite record period! I've always felt that The Reckoning drums were intentionally tom heavy, light on the brass and I love it.
This band has great songs. I will also say the drummer is really good. You can instantly tell in those videos he’s super solid and can’t be hidden in production.
Interesting stuff. 😎🤓
Yeap. Love this 👍👍👍
God bless
Devils been talking is such a sick song
I've always wanted the hear the story of working with Flickerstick, Rick!
I see that the videos were made before you dyed your hair gray!😮
Haha!!!
Also a Need to Breathe fan.
Please make cuts from the Jon Anderson interview!
I noticed this album was released on September 20, 2011...my 58th birthday!
OMG, Rick! These guys are awesome! I gotta move money from my coffee can to my bank account!
Dang! I’ve been listening to need to breathe since the first album and I’ve been watching Rick Beato for a few years now and I’m just now finding out that Rick produced their albums! That’s not a good thing! I remember pouring over tape inserts back in the 80’s and cd inserts in the 90’s and knew who played what on every song and who produced each track. I don’t know why that info isn’t required every time we pull up a song on Spotify or Apple Music because musicians and producers should be recognized for their work!
The guy's vibrato reminds me of Family's Roger Chapman..
How did y’all get away with tracking his vocals on a condenser mic right next to those monitors?
Stryper are also an awesome band with Christian based lyrics. Love them!
What happened to the original version of this video?
JLC was really cool
The Billionaire drummer and this drummer are pretty similar
Rick does anybody call you The Silva Fox?
I’m subscribed on both Ricks accounts…. Yet can’t comment?
Hmmm, ya just commented! Ha! Sometimes if ya don't see your comment. Just refresh the page & it usually shows up.
Rick, you look tired?
🥱
:)
Why do you look so weirdly young when up close to the camera?
BTW, First!
